Went here twice, and both times was not very impressed. Have tried the mandoo (dumplings), galbi taco, chicken taco, calamari, and pork quesadilla. The dumplings were good, the skin is fried perfectly. Crispy on the outside and juicy on the inside. The galbi taco meat was chewy; the chicken taco was much better. Came here several times since my first review and this place is still serves really good food with really good service no matter what time you drop in. Consistency is the name of the game and I always know what to expect.....good stuff. Though the music around 11pm on a Saturday night kinda threw me off. It was a mix that transitioned from todays club music right to early 90's hits. But did not bother me much nor take away from the food being served. Had the Kalbi Tacos and spicy pork tacos. Both were very good and wasn't too expensive at about $9 for 3 tacos each. Both came with sour cream and a green salsa on the side. Salsa was very good... not too over powering in heat... and had good flavor. Flavor of the Kalbi beef and spicy pork were both good. We also had the spicy chicken quesadilla which was good (about $9). Environment feels very clean and service was nice and hospitable. I would consider coming back. read more

I'm not really a fan of tex-mex food, but I was optimistic about the much-hyped galbi tacos. But to my disappointment the tacos let me down! I thought it just tasted mediocre and the sauce that came with it didn't add much to the dish. Hmm but everyone else I went with liked it, so maybe it's just my weird tastebuds. My wife first came here for drinks on the way home without intending to eat and largely looking for a cocktail near home that didnt involve Silverado. We met Jay, the owner, who immediately ingratiated himself by being a good dude who was intent on making sure his customers had a good time. Since that first visit we have been back several times for the oustanding tacos and fried chicken. Every time I come I leave satisfied and with hands covered in the sticky soy ginger residue that indicates the damage I have done to the poultry population. I recently watched "Rooftop Prince" and was introduced to Omurice which was the favorite with the Crown Prince and his gang who got time traveled from Joseon to present day Seoul. I was a bit curious about this dish and its popularity in both Japan and Korea. After googling to find the nearest Korean restaurant, DaMoim was the place that had this dish in their menu. I'm not an expert on Korean food and am reviewing it as a "westerner". It is really good! We had main courses of beef (Galbi Dolsot Bibimbap and Bulgoki )and salmon -- quite tasty. Appetizer chicken ("ssam") was good as well. Kim chee with chili -- interesting and worht while. The service was attentive and patient. It is a beautiful room - dark wood. A little hard to find -- it's behind what looks like a ceremonial gate/arch. Perpendicular to the street. Quite reasonable. 3 people felt quite full at the end of the evening -- $45 total (no drinks). WELL worth a trip. read more

I read about this place in the Food section of the paper awhile back, but didn't have a chance to try it until last month for my b-day lunch. Since several people were running late, we started on the vegetarian mandoo (dumplings) without them. I thought they had pretty good flavor but were a bit greasier than what I'm used to. The Korean/Mexican fusion foods scored higher points at our table than the more traditional Korean fare that were a bit bland. I ordered the Jaeyook Tacos (spicy pork) and I thought it was nice and flavorful. If you like things really spicy this isn't it though. Someone ordered the Kimchi Quesadilla which was pretty yummy as well. The beef in the Galbi tacos tasted dry and overcooked. The Yachae Dolsot Bibimbap was bland and the Jap Chae looked okay but I didn't try it. The food was okay for the price and the atmosphere was modern. I recommend the spicy pork tacos and the kimchi quesadilla, but I don't think I'll come back. read more

Went to this chic Korean restaurant after reading about it in Washingtonian (like other people), and was very impressed. We had the Galbi tacos and the Bul-dog, which is a hotdog that has Bulgoki and Kimchi on top. Both dishes were really delicous. We can't wait to come back and try other dishes! read more

Delicious Korean fusion food! I've gone a few times now, and I love the galbi tacos. The DaMoim sliders and kimchi chili are also really good. Actually, I haven't had anything that I didn't like. I guess I'll just have to try everything on the menu to see if that holds up. :) I don't drink, but friends enjoyed and recommend the DaMoim martini. I don't remember what was in it, but I know it contains pineapple juice and muddled strawberries. This place recently opened, and the decor is nice. The parking lot is small and can get a bit cramped on weekends/nights because it shares the lot with another restaurant and a karaoke place. read more

I was excited to check out DaMoim b/c of a two-star review by Todd Kilman. It's not very often a korean restaurant will get reviewed by a respected food critic in DC and receive a respectable 2 star rating no less. The menu at first glance is a made up of a hodgepodge of Asian fusion fads/trends mixed in with (some) traditional korean dishes. I decided early on I was there to try the fusion items and ordered the fried chicken, kimchi quesadilla and the galbi tacos: The fried chicken was not bad actually, but I wouldn't place it on the same level as the other Korean fried chicken options in the area. I was hoping the Kimchi quesadilla would be an easy win for DaMoim, cheese + kimchi is a great complementing combo of flavors; BUT only when there's a good balance. It was all cheese no spice. Finally, the galbi tacos... oversized tortilla, a sprinkling of bland meat, and copious amounts of cheese. Every bite was like a two step of flour and cheese, flour and cheese... There is one caveat to this review, I had only tried three of the seventy (!) items on the menu; but to my defense, these were three of the "fusion-y" items that should've been used to spotlight its uniqueness from the other Korean restaurants in the area... In the end, I have to disagree with the many other yelp reviewers and even Mr. Kilman on this one. 1/5 Stars. Here's hoping for the day when the originators of these food trends set up shop in DC and show its residents the error of settling for cheap imitation. read more

DaMoim was my first foray into Korean food. I did a carry-out order of vegetarian Mandoo and Ddukbokki. Having never tried either food before, I did not know what they taste like exactly, but I did have some expectations. The ddukbokki comprised of rice cake (tubular shaped pasta), vegetables, fish cake, and a VERY spicy sauce. These guys don't play - I drank 3 cups of water after eating a few bites. A good thing though, I needed to drink more water. : ) The rice cakes were a little dense and chewy, for some reason I thought they would be softer. The vegetables (cabbage, onion, carrots, and green onions) were well cooked and tasty. I'm finding that I just don't have the palate for fish cake, but I'm sure it added good flavor to the sauce. The veg mandoos were very crispy and not greasy. I feel like the filling (rice noodles, bread crumbs, a little bit of herbs, and teeny tiny vegetable pieces) was too dry, even when dipped into the soy sauce. I wish it had more vegetables, but I still found it be tasty. The restaurant does a very good job of wrapping your order. The ddukbokki was wrapped in foil, put into a styrofoam container, and then wrapped in a plastic bag. read more

We vsited DaMoim for the first time last Friday. As was hoped, it's a great way to ease newcomers to Korean food into the scene, given their fusion spin. Those looking to find authentic dishes may find DaMoim's takes on classics a bit unsettling - kimchi quesadillas are not for the purist - but we really enjoyed our mandu, galbi dolsot bibimbap and Jaeyook Goo-yi (especially the latter). The interior of the restaurant was chic and the atmosphere was hopping as evidenced by the engagement party that erupted soon after we arrived. Hands down the best feature of DaMoim has got to be their staff. You'd be hard-pressed to find friendlier or more attentive service. When we ordered a bottle of white wine our waiter returned minutes later apologizing profusely that they did not have any bottles chilled and gave us the last chilled glass gratis while we made a new selection. We thought that was an incredibly nice gesture (how many times have you made a wine selection in this town only to be told they're out?), but were completely and pleasantly surprised when 20 minutes later the manager/owner came over with a cold bottle and poured everyone a glass (also gratis) because he wanted us all to have a chance to try it? The tacos was ok. . nothing special. . something that could have easily been done by a four year old at home. The concept was great however it was poorly executed. Korean Fusion - cool! But Korean favorites like Bulgoki and Korean Fried Chicken were excellent also. They also have small plates, at around $6, but the small plates are not so small. Our mandoo had 6 large pieces of the Korean fried dumpling. The atmosphere is modern, and the service is friendly and helpful. Lots of vegetarian small plates and entrees as well. Read a review of this place in the Washington Post and tried it out. The kimchi quesadillas were surprisingly good. I never imagined the combination of kimchi and cheese would work so well! The tacos were a favorite amongst my family and it came with sour cream and this lime sauce that went really well with the rest of the flavors. My only real complaint would be the spicy pork which tasted less spicy and more overly sweet. I would go there for the fusion foods rather than traditional Korean foods. Also tried the mussels which were fine. I went for an early dinner, they weren't too busy, Only thing they didnt have were all the korean side dishes which would have been nice. Been here so many times now and highly recommend to try it out! It's a little hidden off the main road and parking can be a bit tough on weekends but worth a visit or many! The Korean fusion dishes are amazing! Try the sliders with Kimchee, tacos with pork or beef, quesadillas, and many more dishes. I love their pork buns too although it's a twist on traditional pork buns so beware. Or you can get select traditional Korean dishes as well. Being Korean myself I can say that their Kimchee here is excellent! The bartenders are awesome and the owners Jae and Christine are wonderful and awesome people! The decor is very interesting with Mona Lisa pictures and dark decor all around the walls. There are karaoke rooms in the back if that's your thing and there are sperm looking chandeliers.. Go see and judge for yourself. :) I love their wine selection as well. All wine Jae has suggested to me have been great. After reading Yelp reviews we made our reservation early, 7:30 pm, to avoid the noise. The techno sound track was on the loud side but didn't disturb our conversation. The restaurant has a hip feel and the menu mixes traditional Korean food with fusion versions. We started with drinks and small plates and right away had a pleasant surprise. Although I ordered a glass of Proseco, a staffer brought a freshly opened bottle of champagne and offered that to me instead, for the same charge. I am such a sucker for good service, so at that moment DaMoim had me. We ordered - both kinds of Mandoo (dumplings) and they were very flavorful. The vegetarian version held up well and wasn't just a lesser shadow of the meat filled. The Kimchee Quesdilla was appreciated by the table (I didn't try) and I enjoyed the Haemool Paechon (seafood pancake). I wished the pancake had some crispiness, it was soft but with good chunks of seafood and scallion. We shared the Galbi Tacos and this was a fusion combination that made a lot of sense. The charred meat and the soft taco were a tasty combination. Next visit - and I will be back - I would ask the kitchen to skip the innocuous grated cheeses and layer on some kimchee instead. We shared an order of Jap Chae and thought it was the most richly flavored version we had eaten recently. read more

i went to DaMoim this past friday with a bunch of friends for my birthday and we all had a great time. the waiters were very nice and the bartender even came over and offered us a bottle of "cheap champagne" to celebrate my birthday! the food was yummy. i got the beef dolsot bimbimbop, one of my favorite dishes. there was more rice than needed and the rice didnt get as crispy as i like but the flavors were excellent and the beef was so tasty. the mondu (spell?) was yummy and we all loved that, and the seafood pancake was tasty too. we ordered the baked brie which actually was NOT baked, but it was fine b/c the honey was warmed and that made it a-ok with us! i would definitely go here again for a nice meal out and fun atmosphere and a full bar. they have a drink called the "black korean" which is soju and kahlua and it was mighty tasty! read more

WOW !!!! how things have changed at this place since the place was sold... I originally gave this place 5 stars but that was when the original owner owned the place.. The place is under new management and it shows, lets just say that I will never go back now.. They raised all prices on drinks and food. They raised drinks by like 45%, I used to have drinks for $8 and now they charge $13 for the same drink, all food prices have gone up as well... but the worst thing is the service now.. The girls that work the bar must think that they are doing their patrons a favor by getting us drinks, thats what they make you feel like.. I have asked for a drink and the older girl told me to wait a min , I looked at her and she was just having what you could tell was a personal conversation with a friend at the bar.. Sorry but i thought that they were there to serve their clients.. Anyways,, I have to lower my rating from 5 star to 1 star at this point..
