I've ordered Kimbob and DDukBoki combo. They were delicious and not too spicy. The DDukBoki came with enough sauce to dip Kimbob. Service was fairly quick and their price was very nice for the food. They did not have a TV, so people can enjoy chatting, but each table is so close to each other, so better lower your voice unless you want other people to hear your stories. I've gone back recently and the prices for the giant mandoo is overpriced but I am content with the size and quality of the giant streamed mandoo so it's still worth it to me. It's hard to find a fresh mandoo that size in the area! They steam the mandoo to order so be patient with the time it takes to come out. I enjoyed the homey atmosphere of the restaurant (it reminded me of the 백반집 style of restaurant that's common in Korea). I thought the banchan they gave us were decent until I had the 깍두기 - it tasted extremely sour and vinegary, almost like it had spoiled. When I informed the cook about this, I was told, "The Koreans eat it all the time." The 제육덮밥 looked tasty but lacked flavor - definitely a disappointment. The 고등어조림 I had was very delicious with plenty of meat and good seasoning. The radish in the stew had a nice soft texture. However, the stew had been cooked a bit too long since the sauce at the bottom of the bottom tasted a bit burnt (but definitely edible, and I still ate most of it). As they say, it's what's on the inside that counts. Don't let the exterior discourage you from trying this place. The small building provides a nice home-y atmosphere with friendly wait staff and lively customers. I ordered the Ramen + Kimbap set as a light meal only costing me $14. Definitely worth the price! Lots of food for a low cost! A win in my book! (The photo shows what remains after I devoured most of the amazing Kimbap) While the rest of Annandale has become a metropolis for foodies, you cannot beat going back to basics and having a meal that feels home cooked. We ordered a lot of the same stuff as last time, so read my other review for thoughts on the Seafood Pancake and Seafood Tofu Soup but overall I'm consistently impressed with the amount of seafood in the dish. They don't skim out despite having affordable prices. The banchan- I loved the sweet potato and fish cake (as you can tell from the fact we got seconds). Kimchi is also solid and a classic. Instead of the octopus this time, we ordered a spicy pork belly but a mild because we are wimps and the tofu soup was already a medium. I would say get the medium instead because the mild didn't have as much flavor as I would have liked. I expected there to be more fatty pieces of pork belly, but there was 1 or 2. This plate came out sizzling and it was good overall, but I liked the octopus even more. The person I brought with me here was also really impressed. Great restaurant, small and cozy atmosphere. I returned! Once again this place is just so awesome. Has that home feeling as the restaurant is smaller and decorated like a 아줌마's house. The workers are so sweet and attentive!! The $14 tteokbokki and kimbap combo is so worth your money and delicious. The tteokbokki comes in a very large pan and tastes just like k-market style tteokbokki. Savory with a hint of sweetness, and not too spicy-- and the kimbap tastes super fresh and is well made. I opted for cheese added to my tteokbokki as I always do for an extra charge (and they always put a lot!! So yummy). I'm so sad this place doesn't get more customers!! A long time favorite of mine for authentic Korean food for delivery, I finally had the chance to visit in person and it was better than I expected. The ambiance is very cozy and very hole -in-the-wall mom and pop shop; it is a small space but they have efficient and very friendly service that you don't feel rushed when it gets packed! Since it was cold out, we went with their seollangtang (which is not on their actual menu but you can request it!) and their fishcake kimbob. Their seollangtang is one of the best I've had, it was incredibly rich, flavorful, nutritious, and it had hit the spot on the cold day. They are known for their kimbob and their fishcake kimbob is a classic favorite of mine time! Their banchan is very fresh -especially their kimchi. The chives dumplings looked like they were home made and have thin skins and lots of veggie filling. The spicy squid stir-fry (which also came with rice) packed a punch of flavors and heat that I absolutely loved. The Young Summer Radish Kimchi noodles are cool and refreshing on a hot summer day. After To Sok Jip closed down because of the recent fire, I was so sad about losing a place in Annandale that served amazing comfort Korean food for such a good price. Eating at this place filled that huge hole in my heart and is just as good as To Sok Jip, if not better! I had been to this plaza many times before but never noticed this restaurant. It's located in its own small white building with an unassuming exterior and a few tables available inside. The two of us split the chive dumplings, the stir fried squid, and the cold noodles. We found that this was the perfect amount of food for us and left feeling satisfied! I absolutely LOVED the stir fried squid and how flavorful it was, and the spiciness was pretty mild. The dumplings we got had the softest skins, and the cold noodles were perfect for a hot day outside. How you can tell when I really like a dish/entree from a restaurant is by how much I talk about it during and after the meal. My vocabulary range is not very big, so if you hear variations of "this is actually really good" several times throughout the meal, you'll know that I'm happy and impressed by the food. This place literally has "Kimbob" in the name of their restaurant, so definitely order a kimbap. I tried the tuna kimbap and it was absolutely fantastic and delicious. The tuna had a creamy and grainy texture and was seasoned well. The egg was fluffy and I love the tartness of the pickled radish. I tried my friends' budae jjigae and kimchi fried rice. Both were pretty good, but nothing memorable or special like the kimbap. Again, I'd highly, highly suggest ordering at least one kimbap from this restaurant. Additionally, the service was pretty good and the server gave us more banchan when he saw that we plowed through them. The kimchi here is definitely on the more fermented side (more sour) and was tasty. I also liked the beansprouts here! I was still thinking about the tuna kimbap a couple hours after my meal. I know for sure I'll be coming back soon to get more of the kimbap here. read more

I just realized that I have not done any review for this place. I have been to this restaurants about 10 times already. First I was introduced this place by a foodie. His wife is an amazing cook and he dines out a lot due to his profession so he knows many good places. It was my turn to treat him so I was very surprised when he took me to this tiny boonshik ( Korean fast food style) place. He was right. Instead eating ddukbokki and Kimbop, we went for authentic Korean food. Too bad I do not have any pictures but then the pictures doesn't do the justice. It was about 10+ years ago that I found this place. I have been to DC/ VA about five times after that. Last few times, I ate almost every meals there when I was in the area for few days. Last time I was in the area, we got three dishes to go before I left the area so we can have it back home after the long drive from VA. I will do another review with the pictures soon even if it means a long drive to DC/VA again. My favorites are Black Sesame Tofu Stew,Budae Jjigae and another dish I hope they still make. read more

I've to this place numerous times but the last two visits were not good, and my latest visit sealed the deal for me. Getting there is easy enough and there's free parking (which I appreciate) but with a focus on food, I'm honestly concerned. I don't expect stellar service given the type of whole-in-the-wall restaurant that it is, but still... I am fine with the atmosphere being what it is but the last two times I felt the quality of the food has declined significantly. The bon chons (little vegetable dishes) aren't the same and some of them don't taste right. While I usually get spicy pork bulgogi, I tried the cutlet and found it fine. My wife had a soup with beef and lots of vegetables, and my son had pork belly to make wraps. The sad part is when we were done, he asked for a box to take the rest. The owner literally put the plate of vegetables on his meat, took it somewhere to box it, and then didn't even pack his vegetables. So a plate on the table was on his meat that was packed. A great "hole in the wall" restaurant for authentic Korean dining. This was my second time coming here and the second time I ordered waaaayyy too much food. Ended up ordering a original kimbap, tuna kimbap, Budae Jjigae, and tteokbokki. (don't worry, it wasn't all for just me) All the food was sooo good. However, I wasn't a huge fan of the tteokbokki because it was so damn spicy. I literally had to step outside to cool down in 50 degree weather cause I couldn't stop sweating. Literally & figuratively, lol. You cannot miss it in the dark and you cannot miss the yumminess that await inside. They are located in the Giant Shopping Center parking lot, at the very back, in a teeny-tiny house. The owners are friendly, the place is cozy and just like their tagline "Korean Mom's Recipe" says, they are serving up some delicious, homemade, authentic Korean cuisine. We ordered online & opted to go pick it up inside but they do offer curbside pick up if you prefer, and delivery is available via Postmates. Happily, our order was ready for us when we walked in the door. You can also dine in; they have a small dining room in the front & another small one in back. We got an order of steamed chive dumplings, an order of bulgogi Kimbap, and a combo of rice cakes & traditional Kimbap. Of course our order was accompanied by yummy Banchan (small side dishes) of kimchi & pickled radish. Everything was delish and so fresh, and we really enjoyed it! An absolute must! The food is delicious, the service is awesome. It is located in a small little building but there was plenty of seating when we got there. The place did fill up though. Solid comfort Korean food! Very affordable and authentic. It's in a small house so be prepared for that especially with big groups. The servers are more hands-off after ordering, but there is a self-service water station at least. I really enjoy eating Original Kimbap, Seafood Pancake, and Kimchi Fried Rice! The Spicy Rice Cake (dukbokki) was pretty good too, but more on the sweeter side and very saucy. The Pork Backbone Stew was not too bad either, but not my favorite. This is my favorite place to get Korean comfort food in VA. I don't live here anymore but every time I come back to visit I have to order delivery from this place. My favorite is the kimbap! Food: They have Steamed / Fried Mandu simply amazing. They have one of my Favorite Seafood Tofu Soup - Smacking Good. They also have Kimbob and other dishes like Kalbi and Bulgogi and a host of appetizers, Hot & Cold Noodles Soups, and other types of Entrees. Service: This place is small, and I would say they have like 10 - 12 tables. The people are very nice and will help you on your selection, which I appreciated. The inside decor leaves a lot to be desired and only seat about 20 people maximum. Most of the orders I saw while there were "to go" orders.
