My husband and I came here for our annual Christmas Eve dinner date tradition. We both love historic places and tiki themes, so I was excited to try Damon's despite hearing that it was dated and not at all trendy. It's been around since 1937! When we walked in, it looked like Santa Claus and all of his reindeer threw up all over the restaurant.... totally decked out in all of the lights and cheesiest holiday decor just like I hoped for! The restaurant had lost our reservation and had been having a similar issue with other diners, but still sat us without any problem. We shared calamari and garlic bread, my husband ordered a steak with a twice-baked potato, and I ordered the mahi mahi with creamed corn. My fish was a little dry and overcooked, but the steak was fantastic.... why do I always order non-steak items at a steakhouse and regret it? He definitely ordered better than I did, and I look forward to coming back for a steak of my own. Specialty drinks are the chi chi and the mai tai (which tasted almost identical and seemed to be the same drink but orange juice vs pineapple). They were the kind of drinks that didn't taste alcoholic but would probably sneak up on you. They also have a decent wine and beer list... not too many options, but some well-known labels and very reasonable prices. A server tossed our side salads next to our table, and it ended up being a delightful salad with beets and a tangy dressing. When we were boxing up our leftovers to go, he came back and said that he noticed that we enjoyed our salads and asked if we would like some to go, for free. He explained that he really liked the way the salads turned out tonight and liked to see people enjoying it, so he boxed up a few to-go salads with dressing on the side. So nice! This place is more of a Hawaiian Tiki lounge. I did not get any steakhouse vibes here. There's a big aquarium inside the dining area. We ordered an appetizer of steamed muscles/clams, and that was great in flavor. The pricing was $18 (but the menu showed $16), so that was kinda crummy. We ordered the Mahi Mahi ($28) and the Smoked Pulled Pork($28). They were both disappointing. The Mahi Mahi was lacking in flavor and came out a bit dry (small portion). The pulled pork was a huge disappointment, since it was also small portion of meat with mostly fatty parts. The flavor was ok, but definitely not what you'd expected from smoked pork. Damon's harkens back to the golden age of the Tiki bar scene. Feels like being transported back in time, but with food and drink concoctions that still have all the tastiness you want right now. Steaks were great, and the sides, salads, and soup were all served old school but with flavor to burn. As a visitor to the Los Angeles area, it was also nice to find a fun place to eat with my spouse that had readily available street parking and was a relative bargain for my wallet. So many restaurants to choose from in Brand!! Glendale has so many good options to choose from but since this is a Glendale staple, decided to give it a try. The outside looks super deceiving, as if the building was closed so you have to just walk in. Once you walk in, it's crazy's how huge it is! Bestie and I had a spontaneous outing that night. We were on the search for good ambiance, great drinks, and a savory meal. We stumbled upon Damons Steak House as one of our places to try and here we are! As you walk in, you enter into their waiting area in which we waited for almost 5 mins to be seated. We made a mistake in waiting there not entirely sure where to go to be seated. Little did we know it had a frame of a "map" leading you to the reception area lol. If it's your first time like we were, walk right through the tables and you'll see where the hostess stands. I had ordered the steak and shrimp with a side of sauteed spinach. Bestie ordered one of the weekly specials the Filet Beef Stroganoff. Most orders came with a side choice of either salad or soup. For appetizers we got their calamari and Wagyu Beef Corn Dog. Decided to celebrate my bf's 32nd birthday here since we've been planning to try this spot eventually based on our coworker's recommendation! We heard great steak and tiki drinks and we were in!! Lol! We made some last minute reservations for 7 people at about 8pm, earlier in the afternoon which luckily they were able to accommodate since it was on a Saturday. We sat down almost immediately. Luckily we found parking on the main street which was convenient and easy to pay for via machine and license plate. The place was packed! Our lovely waitress, Mary, was super, super sweet. She took care of us and made sure to keep comin back to make sure we had everything. I ordered the dole whip with rum and it was actually my first alcoholic dole whip! It was SO delicious but very rum heavy which kind of took me by surprise. I expected it to be more mixed in but the glass is mostly rum and the dole whip sat on top. It was like a dole whip float if you want to call it that. Super delicious though! Just took me by surprise lol! The coconut shrimp was suuuuper good and almost wanted to just eat that all night but we had to try the steak since that's what they are known for. My bf got a Mai tai which is also what they are known for and he loved it! We got some garlic toast on the side since it's also a famous appetizer here and glad we got it. Super soft and super garlicky, just the way I like it!! I ordered a USDA Prime Sirloin Coulotte Steak (medium rare) with Fresh Creamed Corn as my side. They know how to do medium rare here which is perfect and just how I like it! My bf got the Tenderloin with twice baked potato which he loved as well. Came here for dinner the other day and what else can I say besides WOW! I didn't expect one of the best steaks I've ever had to come out of a place like here--no offense but it looks like Islands Burgers' fancyish cousin inside. Started off with some coconut shrimp Very big shrimp with actual coconut! Dipping sauce it came with was a too sweet for me but they were good. I got the 16oz ribeye that comes with a soup or salad. I asked for the salad with Cesar dressing but think I'll opt for the soup next time. It had an ungodly amount of diced beets in it(?) strange but if you love beets the salads for you! We got bread and butter for the table but it was weirdly stale. Next, the ribeye came out and I don't think I've ever felt sorrier for vegans than I did in this moment. I ordered it medium and it was cooked to perfection. DELICIOUS rosemary garlic butter sat atop this beautifully crusted piece of cow. I almost cried. I had the twice baked potato with it and it's basically baked mashed potatoes! I wasn't too keen on having to smash my own potato but was mistaken, when I return I'll definitely be getting it again. The brisket was solid! Not the bestest I've ever had but still good! The fries were fresh and if you're a ranch person like me, their ranch is divine. Mac and cheese had a great cheese pull but, in my opinion, could've had a stronger cheese taste. Finished off dinner with their brownie that was so gooey it ended up quite literally being goop with ice cream and a bit of crust. Always passed by this place and it always looked run down from the outside but once you go in, it's a pretty nice restaurant. I was able to get a table for 9 people the day before Thanksgiving easily. The waitress was very attentive, patient, and helpful. The drinks here were really good. If you are like me and have become frustrated with the state of customer service these days, the service staff and management team at Damon's will revive you. My family and I are longtime customers of Damon's so we have spent many dinners and special occasions sitting in their dining room. Today was unique because I wanted to set up something special for my mother's birthday even though I am hundreds of miles away. I contacted management at Damon's and presented my request. Although it was outside of their standard practices and took some special coordination on their part, the team spoke with the General Manager and together they decided they would grant my request. I have to say, the ladies at Damon's are a class act. They exemplified a caring and personal approach to customer service and took a simple request and made it extra, extra special. Their team put a huge smile on my mother's face and made this dinner really special; I could not be more thankful. Huge kudos to everyone from the host staff, to Management and the General Manager, for making this an occasion for the memory books. Your hard-earned money is well spent at Damon's. My steak was awesome, as was the server (sorry, I can't recall his name)! Actually I was surprised by how good the food is because a lot of times "legacy" restaurants seem to bank on nostalgia rather than quality - NOT the case here. It's not fancy, but you're going to get a solid old school meal and dining experience here, which is precisely what I was after and found to be so delightful. As a customer that's been going to Damon's steakhouse for over 40 years, I was very disappointed with my last visit January 2026. I ordered the 16-Oz New York choice steak for $50 and it was a grey looking steak with no flavor or grill marks at all. The blue cheese sauce had no flavor whatsoever. The twice baked potato wasn't like I remember it the last time-colder and not creamy. The house salad and garlic bread is always great! Maybe it was just the fact that they open at 3 PM and we had a 3:30 PM reservation and the cooks hadn't woke up yet but, my family and I were talking of not going back. I will say the service is and always has been great which is why I want to give them one more chance before I never go back. I will definitely try a later dinner time if we decide to go again. I've been going to Damon's for over 30 years now. We used to call it "cheap meat" because the prices were so reasonable back then. That's in the past now, but it's still worth it. I recently had the steak with fried shrimp combo that was perfectly prepared. I chose the chicken rice and he chose the twice baked potato, we shared a side of spinach. All of our server's recommendations were spot on. We added the garlic bread, I think they offer bread and butter but I wanted to try the garlic bread . YUMMMMMM . The salad tossed table side was a very fresh chopped salad that I look forward to having again . We took home most of the potato it was tasty and a huge portion. We took home half of the bread it was to good to leave behind. It had a pizza bread vibe with whatever seasoning was on it. It was VERY good. His Mai Tai was kind of to strong for my taste very much tasted the fresh fruity flavors just very rum forward. My wine was enjoyable, they are not a wine place so it was just an ok selection. Upon entering, you walk towards the bar in the back to check in with the hosts. My bf and I came on a Saturday at 6pm. A fair number of diners were already seated, and the restaurant got full within the hour. Our server was nice and quick. The pace of the drinks and courses coming out was on point. I thought the prices were affordable given the quality and portions, especially for the drinks. DRINKS ORDERED - Damon's Famous Mai Tai ($11 - rum, orange, pineapple). Though it was very strong, the flavors were average. I didn't like the thin taste of the pineapple juice. It might have been canned, but it wasn't deplorable. - Blue Hawaii ($11- coconut rum, citron vodka, blue curacao, lime). Delicious! Much better than the mai tai. The coconut comes through and enhanced the pineapple. I'm sure it's the same pineapple juice that goes into the mai tai, but it somehow tastes better in this drink. - Manhattan Island ($12 - whiskey, macademia nut liqueur). It tasted like an Old Fashioned, but tropical. The drink was strong and sweet. There was an artificial (but not unpleasant) vanilla butterscotch scent on the nose. ENTREES ORDERED - Prime Rib Au Jus ($45 - 15 oz, cooked medium). Available Fri - Sun only, you can choose between 3 different sizes of prime rib. We shared the middle option. The meat was a thick slab, probably over an inch thick. I didn't mind the well done edge, though others might. The rub on the outside was oniony and umami. I thought the meat was juicy enough and tasted good, although it didn't knock my socks off. The au jus was not too salty, but could have gone with just a touch less salt. The creamy horseradish dip was light on the horseradish flavor, which I preferred, and balanced out the au jus. Dipping the meat with both sauces in one bite was the move. For our sides, we chose the Fresh Creamed Corn. The kernels were whole, and the dish was sweet and savory. I suspect that the sauce contained actual cream, but I'm not complaining. Instead of soup, we chose salad, which the staff were nice enough to split into two plates for us. The salad consisted of shredded romaine with celery and shredded canned beets. It was nothing fancy, but I appreciated the source of fiber. We asked for the house dressing on the side; it tasted like a creamy french dressing. The shredded lettuce was hard to pick up. I actually think a spoon might have been easier. We appreciated the four enormous slices of french bread, but both the bread and butter were cold. DESSERT ORDERED - Kona Coffee Frozen Mud Pie ($11 from the Dinner Special Menu). Thick chocolate cookie crust topped with chocolate fudge and then filled with mild coffee ice cream. The ice cream contains thin ribbons of fudge and large almond pieces. It appears to be topped with a coffee cream mixture, then decorated with chocolate shavings and sliced almonds. Warm caramel and chocolate sauce on are drizzled generously onto the warm plate, as is a small melting puddle of whipped cream. If I were to be really honest, the quality is just average - but something about this dessert is sinfully addicting! It lives in my head rent free. The portion is also humongous. On the basis of the food, it might just be a 3 star place for me, but when you combine the general friendliness, the service, and the kitch factor I think this place is a solid 4 stars. It's not the best steak house in LA, might not even be the best steak house in Glendale, but it's my favorite since it's unique. I didn't think the combination of tropical drinks and steaks was one I needed in my life, but I'm glad I have it. The steaks are better than any non high end chain (so better than outback/black angus, but maybe not in the ruths chris tier), but their pricing also reflects that. I've been a couple times and we've made it through appetizers, cocktails, and steak, but have never gotten to dessert. I definitely don't feel I don't get my money's worth.
