Never had a service with them but spent a lot of time talking to them over the phone. We had several problems with bites on my sons body. They were very helpful providing professional experience and advice. Even suggested another company to help eliminate some of the possible suspects for the bites. I followed their suggestions and finally concluded it might be rat mites that was from our previous rodent issue. I was working with another rodent company already so They suggested me to ask them to come back and see if there are more rats in the house. My family has been getting bit by something- no idea what... I called Dan yesterday, left him a message. He got back to me within a couple of hours and was SO helpful. He talked to me on the phone for a VERY long time, answering my questions thoughtfully and with humor. He helped me realize that we probably have rats in our basement (which I found out later on in the day, to my utter horror, was true). He let me know that we might be getting bit by Rat mites (YIKES!!!) and explained THE WHOLE fumigation process to me. Dan the Bug man is professional, gracious and really has a killer wit! We thought we had bed bugs but Dan set us straight - informing us they were ONLY mice mites. ICK! He investigated our ENTIRE property- inside and out, identified our mouse (and mite) problem, found our ant hill (in an INDOOR plant- another ICK) and dealt swiftly with all of it in about 45 minutes. I was impressed with his thoroughness and shocked that he did not try to set up some "life time" deal where in we were ball and chained to a "service" for eternity. We had him come back after we cleared out our storage and he even sprayed the interior of our van for us since we had hauled all of our mite-laden goods in it. Dan is honest, he wants to do the best job but is not interested in finding "other problems" the way some in the pest business might. I have recommended him to everyone I know in the East Bay. I work from home while my husband is at work. We had a little mouse problem. Dan came over and did a consultation. Money is always tight with 3 kids, so I asked him if we could do the work ourselves and gave him my email address. He took 8 pictures of the problem areas and sent them to me via email, and said, "call me". I called him and he explained not only how we could get rid of the mice, but also how to prevent them from coming back again. Dan the Bug Man is, without a doubt, the absolute best in this business. He knows how those creatures think and how they get in, and so he knows how to get them out and make them STAY out. Our experience with him is that he has been totally professional, on time, 100% correct and intuitive about exactly what needs to be done, and - most importantly - successful in solving the issue! I didn't know Dan until he came out to the house 2 or 3 times and dealt with our rat problem. I chose him because of the good reviews he got here @ Yelp. So, he wasn't "a friend of mine" as one cynical yelper put it. That said, he is a very nice guy. He was conscientious about answering all of my questions and concerns. He didn't insist on cash. He didn't disappear. So I don't understand the negative comments. Especially the one claiming he's a "scam artist." Ridiculous. One thing he made very clear to me from the beginning was that the contractor he recommended to do related work did not work with or for him. In fact he was good enough to warn me that the man could be a bit difficult to reach at times. When that proved to be the case, I called Dan, who called the contractor for me, which go the ball rolling. So, really, what more can you ask? read more

Dan the Bug Man is awesome! The first time he came to our home was due to a wasp problem near my boys' bedroom window. He came out, took a look, and gave me options as to how he could get rid of them. I was concerned about chemicals because of the close proximity to my sons' window, so we decided on a gentle approach and the wasps were gone in no time. The second time he came to our house was because we had started hearing scratching noises behind our wall and I even found rodent poop on our stairs!! Dan came out and after a thorough inspection, found SEVERAL entry points, most of which also indicate a foundation problem (ack!). He even gave me the name of a contractor he trusts who can come look at the problem, and in the meantime he has set up traps and will follow up with us once we get the entry points sealed to make sure that the little buggers are gone. Mice Control in the Oakland Hills called Dan for an estimate which was $185.00 just to give an estimate... That's as far as we got, at $185.00 for 15 to 30 mins on the job and then policies or prices given that were unacceptable Dan wouldn't have to exterminate at all... 3 or 4 of those in a day is a pretty darn good living without actually lifting a hand... I'm Sorry Dan but I need to meet you and have you explain why you should be hired to do the Job... Not the other way around!!! read more

While Dan is very professional and skilled at dealing with rodent infestations, be aware that he produced 12 videos detaling the source of the problem, but gave us no other help after charging us $300. He said the work of plugging the various holes detailed in his videos was outside the scope of work he could do, which is not what we were lead to believe about the process. He did give us a name of another contractor but this person never returned our calls or emails. Very disappointing experience and feel scammed. read more

We had been hearing the obvious rodent sounds for a few days and then finally saw the telltale sign up rats - their poop! We had heard the sounds all throughout our house so when Dan arrived, he checked all possible entry points - base of house, roof, overhangs, crawl spaces, etc. etc. and there was no obvious one they were entering in. As he looked at the different possible entry points, he gave me pointers about how to secure them better and things I should look for that would indicate a rodent had entered/exited the area. I was all ears because I hate rodents! We were both thinking that we might have to get a roofer out to look to see if there was an entry hole there because nothing was looking like a rat had entered through the different places he checked. He was able to go on the roof but not at the very top because we have a very steep one. As we spoke more, he checked one last spot and there it was - clues as to where the rat had entered/exited. He found the entry point, blocked it and set a few traps. What I liked about Dan was the knowledge he had about rodent control, how he taught me along the way about present and future rodent control and his sense of humor. When critters get in your house, you're not feeling the best about things and to have someone helping you with eradication who is funny, makes it that much better. You won't be disappointed! Dan The Bug Man is the one and the only one to call when you have a pest problem. I know this by making a costly mistake of calling another exterminator to take care of the problem. They did a extremely sloppy poor job that didn't come close to resolving my problem. You see, I'd initially called Dan, and spoke with his assistant, Cynthia, who said he was booked up and couldn't get to me until a few weeks later. After poor result with the first exterminator, I was frantic and needed to get pest out of the house as I had small kids and in-laws coming in a couple of weeks. I called Cynthia again. She listened patiently, understood my situation and called Dan to asked if he can squeezed me in his busy schedule. Dan came out the next day, right on time. He took time to look thoroughly inside and outside my house, and even cracked jokes with me to make my tensed self more relax. The next day he followed up with photos showing points of entrances into my house, suggested plans to seal up house and even help arranged work with a contractor a day later. Once the house was sealed up, he set up traps, monitor progress, did clean up, and set up new traps. Within two weeks, the house was declared pest free. I can't tell you how grateful I am to find Dan The Bug Man and his team. Cynthia is a very good listener and took time to answers all my questions. She is patience, caring, follow through on what she said she'll do, and check in to see how I was copying. She gives you support and confidence that you called the right team. Then Dan delivers the results. He does high quality work, he always shows up on time, and is honest; a rarity in this business, unlike the first exterminator. As an example of his integrity, Dan showed up at my house to set up traps only to see that I had already set them up on my own. He checked my work and gave me some pointers to placement locations. When I gave him a check for his visit, he declined to take it. Really? Yes, he did not charge for that visit. On top that, his total fee was a third of what I'd paid the first guy and got excellent results. I hope I don't have to call them again, but if there's a pest problem, I know who to call. read more

Wow- I am not sure how this service got such high ratings. Perhaps his friends are writing. I was hopeful that Dan would be a more reliable and honest person in the rodent control business. He certainly was nice and professional when he came the first time. However, after that, he missed appointments without calling, and did not follow up properly. I had to contact him each time to remind him of the plan and the service he promised, and that I paid for. When I contacted him this last time, he did not remember the service he had given me and the plan we made (that he had not followed up on)- even though he had been out 3 months ago. When I expressed my disappointment, he was not honest, and did not seem to care at all about keeping my business. I cannot recommend his service at all. read more

We had an ongoing Argentine ant infestation in and around our home, and after months of Terro traps and creepy crawlers, we called Dan to come out and nip our problem in the bud. Cynthia, who coordinates all of Dan's home visits was such a pleasure to interact with. She was very responsive and helped get both visits set up at times that were convenient for my wife and I. Dan showed up on time, talked through everything he was going to do as far as treatment, did the work in short order, and then walked me through everything he did and what I needed to do to help prevent future infestations. Not only was it informative, but he was very honest. (Hint: If you want Dan to tell you how to never have an ant enter your home again, he won't. He'll tell you the truth, which is that you can never 100% prevent them, but there are a lot of steps you can take to remove or significantly diminish their populations.) Ok, so I did a TON of research about pest control services on the web and spoke to almost every pest company in San Francisco. The bottom line - most provide similar services (i.e., inspect your property and lay down traps), but Dan the Bug Man is THE MAN. We had one guy come out and basically spent less than 10 minutes with us and threw down 3 glue traps for mice in our garage. He tried charging us $120 and I told him he was insane and just paid him $40. That was my initial and only experience with a pest control company. Now onto D the B-man: we had mice in our flats and I called Dan based on the reviews I read on Yelp and Yahoo. The nicest guy in the world (I wonder if he babysits?). Dan spent upwards of an hour in our place, making suggestions and setting traps throughout. He's very knowledgeable and actually feels bad for the rodents (i.e., prefers wood traps vs. glue traps to avoid the mice from suffering). Dan will tell you about the services that others try to charge you for, but is very professional and won't speak negatively about anyone. I'm not sure of the results yet, but confident his services will help eliminate our mice problem. Dan deserves 5 stars no question. First of all, he returned my phone call which apparently is half the battle in this town. But that doesn't even begin to address why Dan is worth calling. Most exterminators will try to get as much money from you as possible and also try to sell you on a monthly plan. What is the point of a monthly plan - it means you keep having pests without a way of permanently eliminating them. Dan seemed really honest, and his method is to help you rid yourself of pests entirely. He walked through and pointed out all the areas that could be sealed, offered his expertise on how to seal them and how to maintain as pest-free an environment as possible. Basically, he arms you with the right information to do it yourself, although he also told us he would be willing to do the work if we were unable to. This is exactly the kind of exterminator we needed! Immediately, his methods worked on our problems - ants and small mouse issue. Couldn't believe how good his advice was, in fact.
