Had some plumbing leaks and a sink in need of replacement. Well, fast forward to calling the most reliable and reasonable person I've known, that person being Dan the Handyman, I have had much work done over the years by him, and always have been pleased with the results. This scenario was no different, we had had a couple of leaks over the years and have spent a pretty penny using some local plumbers when pressed for time, Dan surveyed the current situation and pointed out the thinner cheap copper that was used back in the 90's and suggested re-piping the whole place. Seemed drastic for a moment, until he showed me the corrosion that was occurring all over the current pipes. WE decided to take his advice and rode out to the Glendale Home Depot, they will be getting their own non too stellar review for that location, we eventually got all the supplies and pipe, Dan had the job finished in about 5 hours! He then got started on the sink replacement and it's corroded pipes and had it finished, in addition to throwing in a repair to the poor installation of a garbage disposal done by another inept plumber, all done by the next day, and all at a very, very reasonable price. Dan The Handyman put a Point Of Attachment as requested by the DWP. The isolator/anchor broke off from the house and the power wires were dangerously resting on the chain link fence. I contacted Dan and hired him to do the work. He came over gave me a reasonable estimate and came back to do the work. He's very organized, not afraid of heights (2story house) and friendly to talk to. He finished up in less than 2 hours. Dan is a super nice and crafty guy. We asked him to replace the fence around our front yard, as well as our front porch decking. He did a really nice job. We ended up having him do a couple of other things for us, including power washing the outside of the house. We didn't give him much direction on how to do the fence, and gave him free reign to do what he thought was best. He ended up using better hardware and more durable wood than the original fence that was over 5 years old. He also painted the wood before putting it out onto the fence posts, which is key to keeping water from getting in and allowing it to last a long time. He's also a genuinely nice guy. Had a project to replace grill parts and the stand. First there was a misunderstanding of the scope of work. He was given the parts and the envelope containing manuals and diagrams. I was informed by my wife he had finished the tasks and I went out to review his work. The igniter was not working. I asked him about and was told the replacement part needed was not included. I asked him what part. He showed me a connector. I explained to him that was not the igniter. He argued it was. I showed him the igniter module and asked was the battery bad. He told me it had no battery. I showed him it had a battery. The wires were hanging down and one from the ignition button was disconnected. He connected it and a I ask him if he had any wire ties to keep it from hanging up on the drip pan when the drip pan is installed. Needless to say he didn't and I provided him some. He was in a hurry and late for his sons baseball practice. I asked for my envelope back and he had tore the diagram out of it got it soaked, dirty and waded up and in my trash. He stated the ground was wet from the rain (There were plenty of other places to place the papers that were not wet. The envelope was in the trash soked and filthy. Needless to say I was upset at this lack of caring for someones property. I kept quiet. He left and then I notgiced he had left the inside base storeage rack in the old base. Not impressed with this type work and arguing with me about the igniter. Pay your dime and take your chances. No I would not reccomend him. read more

Hire him! Dan does everything - plumbing, plaster repair, paint, electrical, carpentry, et al, and does everything great. You will not be disappointed. He's a one stop shop - just get your list together and the longer the better. Dan communicates well and is reasonable in his pricing. We had several good size holes created by electricians in our living room. The walls are plaster. Under Dan's skillful work - those hole disappeared. Same with the cracks in the walls the electricians created around the electric plates. We also needed a 55" TV and 42" TV mounted, installed and cables hidden. Dan picked up the cable channels, did the mounting and installing and they both look great. Recommend him highly and look forward to using him again. We used Dan's services 4 years ago, and we are still traumatize by the experience. He is the most unprofessional, unreliable and unstable person I've met. His quoted price changed throughout the process. He disappeared for an extended period before completing the work, claiming an injury, though we saw him looking quite healthy around the neighborhood. He then came back and did a rush job. When we then noted things that didn't look right, I got yelled at and insulted. It was shocking. Once he "completed" the job we paid for, we had to hire someone else to come fix it. Our new handyman confirmed the horrible job that was done by Dan. I waited to write a review because he's the kind of person I am afraid would retaliate. Based on other reviews between 5 and 1 stars, I'm guessing your work and experience with this person depends on which Dan shows up. We had a serious leak in our water heater and I'd received quotes as high as $1,700 to replace an easily accessible 40 gallon unit. The unit recommended by the $1,700 guy was a Rheem which goes for $549. I called Dan, who answered the phone immediately, and we made an appointment for him to come the next day and install the unit. Looks like I'm the rebel when it comes to reviews on Dan the Handyman. I called him about fixing a bedroom door that stuck, to the point that it was a dangerous situation. My 2-year-old grandson sleeps there. He agreed to come at 3:30 on a Wednesday. He texted me that afternoon, saying: "I have to go pick my helper so I'm going to be a little around 4:00." He hadn't arrived by 4:37 so I texted: "Are you on your way?" He replied: "No. I'm going to have to postpone I'm still driving right now in traffic." I replied: "Postpone until when?" He got back to me at 7:30 PM with: "Fri." Me: "What time?" Him "I can come now if you want." Not an option! I got back to him later that evening with "What time on Friday? I will not be home for most of the day." Him: "after 4:00." Me: I won't be home then. Monday afternoon works for me." Him: "Sorry booked up no more lottery thank you find another handyman." Me: "That's best. I need someone I can rely on." I found communicating with him frustrating. Maybe things would have gone smoother if we had actually spoken OR if the job had been bigger. On his behalf, he did a fine job installing a dog door for me a couple of years ago. The only down side to the experience was that he brought his dog with him (I agreed that leaving him in the car for an extended time wasn't OK) and the dog marked everywhere, including on all my patio furniture. Possibly I should have paid attention to my neighbor, who said that he made an appointment with Dan and he never showed up. read more

Why would you bring a small snake for an outside drain? And then to charge me $60 for trying. Fine, I get it - you spent 45 min trying to clear it, and your time is worth money.
