So after shopping several moving companies ,I'm finding out (the hard way) about the unlicensed moving companies seems there are a ton of them ,especially along the 680 corridor order to be a licensed moving company ,and carry Workman's compensation they need to have a P.U.C. license ever you can tell the movers who do not have this because they are much cheaper then companies that do .No license no insurance you do the math. This was going to be my fifteenth move in 7 years, and I decided I just couldn't handle another move especially since I no longer had access to a minivan. All the other places had a four hour minimum, but for me, all I needed to move was some furniture and some boxes. Dan promised it would take about two hours, and he was exactly right. Dan and Derrick finished the move in two hours (there were only two of them, probably because they knew the move would be so small). They were really polite, very careful with everything, and found $40 and a check behind my dresser. I never paid movers before, but it was so worth it and I highly recommend them, especially if you don't think you'd use up 4 hours with another company. I needed a move and quick, everywhere else that I called wanted either too much or were not avaible. I found Dan the Mover here on yelp. I gave them a call and I liked their quote. They arrived on time and started moving right away. They had a team of three guys, dan the owner, dan the good looking college guy, and another guy that I just ended up by calling "Dan" to make things easier. (He was okay with that) They finished the job in great time, not one thing broken, not one wall knicked, and all three Dans were very nice and helpful. I've never dealt with a mover that someone didn't recommend (mainly my Mom since she moves so much) so I was very hesitant on using someone new. I read Dan's reviews on Yelp, he has good rates, and he was the only one that actually did an estimate for us. I am SO happy that I used Dan for our moving needs. Dan and his crew had my entire house in El Cerrito packed up and moved to Castro Valley in under four hours. They were efficient, friendly, and extremely helpful. Which is great when you procrastinate moves the way I do. They even packed a lot of my stuff for me on the spot! They are clearly experts at moving, loading, and unloading trucks. What would have taken my husband and I two days to do on our own was finished in half a day. All of our possessions arrived to our new house without a scratch, and Dan and his team stayed beyond their slotted time to make sure the furniture was delivered to the correct rooms and that we were completely happy with their service. I called at 10:00 PM and he finally answered. Said he can do the work for me on Saturday Afternoon, but will confirm with me Saturday morning at 10 I did not make any other plans. At 10:00 AM no calls I called and left two messages No call backs. Very Impressed! I have moved several times using professional movers. I wanted to see if I could fine something a bit more reasonable in price with the confidence of knowing my belongs would be in good care. I have big over sized furniture and some of it is pretty heavy to move. I realized one of my items may not make it up the stairs and around a hair pin turn. Dan and his crew were able to get it in. If i could give 6 stars i would!!! I very rarely find the need to ever write a review, much less a good one in regards to anyone that i have come across in any respect. With that said i am surprised that Dan is not busier than he is. If people really understood what effort and coordination it takes for these 4 guys to move an entire apartment filled with boxes and baby toys falling out of closets in less than 3 hours, then to unpack their huge truck in less than an hour was truly amazing to witness. Did i mention that they also had to contend with 3 flights of stairs in the packing of the truck? If you are moving or know someone that is moving in the near future you would be a fool to not call dan to help you. NIGHTMARE! Read this first and say NO! Look, I usually leave positive reviews. But this guys services was literally one of the worst experiences ever. I wish I could give him a negative million. First, they ONLY take cash and have no insurance. RED FLAG. I found this out on moving day. Moving day, Dan calls me and tells me he is subcontracting it to some of his friends. His friend calls me an hour after he's supposed to be there. Tells me he has NO cell phone and that they'll be there soon. I'm stressed out. I can't reach anyone. Not even Dan. Straight to voicemail. Then, 3.5 hours later this guy shows up and asks me to use my phone and has two of his buddies with him that have NO moving experience. They have no tape, no cupboard boxes, no moving equipment. They wrapped my clothes in my duvet. Keep in mind, I only had bedroom furniture and like 10 boxes. It took them FIVE (I swear) hours to move me. It should have taken two hours tops. And I was moving a couple of miles away and both properties had elevators. And between moves? They went to Popeyes. I couldn't believe it. Just when I thought it couldn't get worse, they broke my bed slats and my lamp. By some miracle I moved. Later that night, I realize so many of my things are missing!! Including some important documents, my box of shoes, vacuum, many personal belongings - things that totaled at least $700. At this point, no one is answering the phone. Luckily enough, 3 days later I went to my old property and by some miracle some of my stuff was still there AT THE BUILDING'S ENTRANCE. THEY LEFT MY STUFF BEHIND!!! They still lost about $500 worth of my stuff. Dan promised he would give me a refund. Two months later, ignored EVERY one of my calls. And this is the only action I could take. This is a cautionary tale. I'm reporting him to the BBB and you should NOT EVEN CONSIDER using him. Move along and get yourself some professional movers. I hired Dan the Mover for my mom based on recommendations from the apartment complex she was moving to. Dan and his 2 man crew were about 15 mins late, but he called to let us know he was on his way. All 3 were very friendly and worked quickly. We did almost all the packing ourselves beforehand, so he and his crew got to work right away loading the furniture and boxes. Dan is very experienced and all items were expertly wrapped and nothing was damaged. Once they finished carrying everything into the new place, they were diligent in making sure all the furniture was exactly where we wanted it. Dan is not the best at responding to email, but will return your call. He quoted a reasonable hourly rate (3 hour minimum), which was all inclusive for labor, their truck, and moving materials (plastic wrap, blankets, equipment, and boxes). I did feel a bit uneasy in that he doesn't have a formal contract to sign based on the verbal quotation he gave me, but I went ahead because of his experience with the apartment complex and it all worked out. So almost two years later to the day, we used Dan again to move out of the townhouse and into a house. He was so happy to hear that we were leaving a trilevel and going into a ranch. He and his coworker were a teensy bit late, but I just expect that and didn't freak out. They worked hard, fast, smart, and we were moved within the allotted time frame. Nothing broke, they were super careful, and very respectful of our property and our time. Its great they bring in boxes for clothes, you just transfer them yourself from closet to box, no need to take anything off the hanger. They shrink wrapped dressers so no drawers moved and no scratches or dings. I trust Dan and having used his services twice now, I recommend him for any kind of move, big or small. We had a lot of stairs and these guys really worked hard, and made it look effortless. They were polite, helpful, fast and very reasonably priced. This was the best money I have ever spent. Dan's moving services moved me from storage in Alameda to Concord. He and his guys treated my stuff better than I treat my stuff (and I have a lot of antiques). He was reasonably priced and did such a good I felt he undercharged me. They put the mirror on my dresser for me and they assembled the bed frame for me as well. We moved from Dublin to Stockton 6 months ago. It is still on my mind to write a review about Dan the Mover because they really deserve recommendations. I searched moving companies almost a week when we decided to move and the results were very frustrating. There were so many additional charges. Luckily I found Dan the Mover here on Yelp. His rate was a lot cheaper than other moving companies. Dan came to our apartment and gave us a flat rate. He said even it takes longer hours we will charge this money. The moving day, they came on time and they moved every little things very carefully. My fiance has a grandpa clock and he was worried about how are we going to move that. Dan very professionally took care of it. Nothing was damaged. They use their blankets to wrap some of the furniture. They also had wardrobe boxes we could use with no charge. Other companies charges extra for that. I hide his card in a very secure place just in case if we ever need to move again :) They are also very friendly. I definitely recommend Dan the Mover to anyone who is moving. read more

We had to move after 20 1/2 yrs in our duplex - needless to say - we had a lot of stuff and in looking at movers for weeks on end and reading reviews of them - I was at a loss of who to trust - but a friend recommended Dan. He came over, gave us an estimate, took his time and was very cordial. He immediately gave me the feeling that he was someone we could trust. Not only were they extremely hard working and professional but they really paid close attention to small details that other movers would have overlooked. They brushed off things that needed it and made sure everything was packaged safe and sound. I hate to leave a negative review since I used Dan's services for a previous move, but my move with Dan today was a nightmare. After having a stellar move with Dan previously, I knew I would use his services for my next move. He and his team moved me from a 3 bedroom, 2 bath condo in 5 hours and only charged me $450. He deducted $30 for one of his crew members breaking a item that really wasn't a big issue. I also used him for a cash job to move my appliances to my cousin. So when people needed mover referrals, I happily gave them Dan's contact information. My boss needed a mover and I recommended Dan confidently. The day of my boss' move, Dan was no where to be found after confirming the job. My boss has to call an emergency mover because she was expected to vacate her short term rental that day. No call from Dan after many frantic messages. He called to apologize as he mixed up the day. I was surprised but didn't let that stop me from calling because my experiences were positive...until today. He was an hour late, had a small truck and had two people working with him. Come to discover, one of the two was pretty useless and really made little impact of the speed and quality of the moving services. Because Dan did not have the right sized vehicle for the move, all my furniture did not fit. So he suggested strapping my cream colored sectional to the OUTSIDE OF THE TRUCK and was surprised I said NO. He also would not listen to the suggestions of the one competent crew member he had. Because of that, When Dan realized his method did not work, they had to replace the truck! He also left my TVs unattended in my driveway while he was upstairs arguing with his crew member about how to dismantle my sectional. With one stop at my storage, the move took nearly 11 hours, when both of his crew members said it should have taken 5-6, with one stop. Dan and I disagreed on the pay and he claimed he didn't remember moving me previously, then later said that my fiancé and I were poor customers. If we were such poor customer after using your services twice, why would you take us on for a third time? His own crew member said that Dan's behavior was more commonplace than not and that he's not giving his best. Which is unfortunate because we really loved working with him and have referred him-especially to someone that has influence over my career. Never again. read more

Dan was the only one willing to move a heavy multi-purpose games table that was delivered to my curb in 2 heavy boxes. Flat out fantastic. Arrived early with four movers and two trucks, communicated with me constantly, solved some problems, treated our stuff like it was their grandma's best china, and even entertained us a bit in the process. They moved all of our furniture and outdoor stuff (we'd already moved all the boxes when we staged the house) out of one house and in to the next across town in under three hours at a very reasonable price. Spoke with Dan and rates seemed reasonable - didn't actually move with his company, but for three days he said he would come to give an estimate so we would know if we needed 1 or 2 trucks. For three days he didn't show up. Even though he did eventually call on 4th day, I had already picked another moving company. I didn't want to risk that he would not show up on the day of our move. Unreliable, unprofessional is all I can say. Not worth the stress of wondering if he will show up for the actual move. read more

I've moved across town and the country several times, Dallas to San Jose to Lansing to Dublin, and I really haven't encountered a more accomodating mover than Dan and his team. They will bring boxes by if you need them, they will move things all around your house, and they even fixed something that had been broken from two moves ago. These guys are old-school awesome. I hired Dan and his crew to move my elderly parents with in a senior community. They showed up on short notice and got to work immediately. My parents have some expensive pieces of furniture and they took great care in wrapping and moving each item. There wasn't any damage not even a scratch and they even put blankets and tape down to protect the carpets. We were short some boxes and Dan provided them on the spot at no extra charge. One of the guys even took the time to help a senior in to her car and bring in my dad's groceries. Now that's service! I would definitely use these guys again and refer them to friends. read more

We hired Dan the Mover to move a few pieces that we could not move ourselves for our local move (including a baby grand piano). The downside was that Dan requires a 2 hour minimum and we didn't need him quite that long. However, he was offering to move anything he could to fill that two hour minimum. Unfortunately...WE did not plan well. However, we could have not moved this piano by ourselves so the two hours ($240 crew of three which was required for our heavy piano) was WELL WORTH IT. Honestly, he was a little late, but called at the designated time to let us know he was on his way. This was VERY appreciated so that we were not wondering if he was coming. Dan and his two helpers were VERY PROFESSIONAL. They were very careful, as well as knowledgeable about our piano. Dan was very concerned about customer service. This was an excellent moving experience and DAN THE MOVER IS HIGHLY RECOMMENDED. read more

I would definitely use them again! If you need to move or haul stuff away then this is the one call you need to make. Dan and his crew (I think Greg is the lead guy, but Dan answers all your questions) arrived around 10:30am and got my move done in 5 hours. He originally quoted 6 hours so I give 4 stars for his honesty when he discussed my move. I feel like other companies under quote to get you to use them. Then they go so slow that you end up not finishing your move since you are paying them by the hour. Dan was honest on the phone, answered my questions, offered to help with as many boxes, trips or man power that I need to finish in one day. These guys are fast and very efficient. They helped me pack up several items and hauled all of my "extras, trash, junk" away so that my old house was pretty much move in ready for the next resident. We left nothing behind. I know several people will cut cost and make trips on their own. Dan has smaller trucks and it took 2 trips so if you have a house bigger than 2800 sq ft then it would probably be better using a bigger company. Dan the mover was a lifesaver for me. I packed my valuables and most fragile items in my car myself so that they could move quickly and make the most of their truck space. It all worked out, I would use them again and again. it took a few phone calls to book him, but I saved time and money on the day of the move. read more
