I am so glad I did. They were honest, forthright, and professional. They let me know my tires needed replacement and suggested a replacement tire that was affordable, safe, and could even order for me right away and have the next day, but also no pressure if I wanted to go elsewhere (if I had a tire place, which I didn't). I needed my car that next day, so opted to come back for tires the following week and schedule a new appointment. I learned they misquoted the price of the tires, in my favor, and when learning this, they dis not hesitated to honor the price they quoted, saying it was their mistake. I moved to the East Bay in 2018 but have been reluctant to try to find a new mechanic after many years of satisfied service with my usual mechanic in SF. Due to working from home and the stress of Covid-19 considerations I recently decided to try a new mechanic close to where I live now after my 2009 Chevy cobalt started running super rough all of sudden. I know the car is at the end of its life with 210k miles on, but due to so many stellar yelp reviews I expected an honest assessment of my vehicle and advice deciding on moving forward with repairs. I brought the car in and reported that the check engine light has been coming on intermittently, the car has been running rough and had a very strong exhaust smell (all new, sudden onset issues). They ran a diagnostic test and told us the car need new O2 sensors. Ok, fine. Especially given the doable price of this repair, we decided to do it. Imagine my dissatisfaction when after a $450 repair my car sounds better, runs no smoother and the check engine light is still on. We decided to take the car to my husband's family's mechanic while visiting them in Fresno and imagine how angry I feel when their mechanic revealed that my car has a large hole in it's exhaust system and they recommend a new catalytic converter. Makes me feel like Dana Meyer's garage didn't even bother to assess what was wrong with my car. All they did was plug it into a diagnostic computer. I'd think twice about trying this garage unless you have a happy long-standing relationship with them... read more

The woman who works the counter, Kat, always remembers me. of course that could be because my name is also Kat and I drive one of the rarest cars on the planet (seriously, not many people own a Pontiac Aztek because they are rather ugl-er..... they are cars with character), but still. Cheap? They're not a discount place. I typically pay $95ish for a basic service, but that includes an upgrade in oil because my car is getting on in years. Once my car started making scary clanking noises, and they found a way to squeeze me in just to let a (FABULOUS) mechanic listen to it and make sure it wasn't going to explode or something horrible. The mechanic immediately pointed out where a valve was getting stuck, oiled it up, and poof! instant fix. They are fast, and never keep me waiting for long (get my service done in under an hour). Other things they've done on my car: Replaced a headlight bulb - $55 (yes this sounds insane, but it DID take THREE mechanics to figure out how to get the stupid headlight off because Aztek's are not the most logically built cars and after watching them take the thing apart in 15 minutes, I determined it would have taken me at least 3 hours). Brake pads - with porcelain pads in Dec 07 around $400, but even after driving across the country and back, they are still at 90% 1.5 years later. They didn't even charge me for listening to the horrible clunking sound, just the quart of oil they put in. When I've gotten regular service, they do things like replace the wiper blades for no additional charge. So in short, they are TRUSTWORTHY, RELIABLE, EXCELLENT mechanics. You can find cheaper, but the peace of mind of knowing you're not going bot be cheated, told you need work you don't actually need, or taken advantage of is worth the little extra cash. I love Dana Meyer and remain a loyal customer. Incidentally, they also give GREAT references for other auto related stuff like tires (Don's), same-day weekend glass replacement (Frank's), and cosmetic body work. read more

I've been taking my Mazda 2002 Protege5 to Dana since 2007. I still have the car and it's in good shape with regular servicing there. Labor is on the high end of $, but the work they do is quality. You get what you pay for. I've even bought my own higher end parts and they had no problem installing them. Don't forget to tell them you're a AAA member to get the 10% discount on labor. Oh yeah, they have two women working there and I enjoy being able to talk to another women in a car shop. They take the time to explain everything and I feel good about that. I am a student so money is tight. These guys are awesome. Great customer service-How great? I purchased an online deal for 2 discounted oil changes. The first one went smoothly and efficiently. Their waiting room has a free automatic coffee machine and is well stocked with great magazines. Months flew by and then I got a call reminding me to come in and claim my next change as it was about to expire at the end of the week. They didn't have to do that, but they went above and beyond- a really rare and awesome quality in a business. After a rough week of class, I made it in on the last day and with a little creative reshuffling they were able to fit me in. I was a customer at Dana Meyer's for years until an incident where we paid the front office for a major service and before we left the mechanic innocently inadvertently revealed that he had performed a minor service. Dana contradicted the mechanic (who had literally just worked on the car) and Dana insisted the charge for the major service was correct. He tried to characterize this later as a miscommunication but the price was never reduced. I had written off one prior negative experience (a repair paid for was not actually done) as innocent error because they corrected it and apologized. I had an issue with my ' Starter ' ....on my '06 Accord for a while now. Bought the car about 2 years ago used with like 102k on the Clock. Hardly drive 4k a year on this one. The Lady @ the desk ' Kat ' ( hope right spelling ) - was Extremely Patient, Thorough as well as Honest in working through the issue over a 2 month period. Dana ( whenever I did see him around ) also seemed ' very approachable ' - which I liked. Feels Re-Assuring to a Customer. Esply. ' In this Industry ' !!! Well - The starter ' did not always engage on a full turn , but did after a 2 minute break or so. Typically - with this problem ( as they also had noted ); hard to tell if it is an ' Ignition Switch ' or a ' Starter '. Also ' Intermittent Issue ' that tends to ' Correct Itself ' - Esply. in shop ...as usual !!! !! Well - The first visit and overnite ' drop-off ' it corrected itself. They charged me only ' fraction of hour fee '. Stated we better wait. Subsequently - like 6 - 8 weeks later it was failing badly n I drive her in. They did ' diagnose as starter only ', and replace. Now it feels ' Solid '. Turning over ' like it should ' on almost every Crank '. Thanks Dana Meyer for ' being there '. Had been hearing good things about you guys since the 90's when I used to sell @ Val Strough VW...up the Street. Glad I went in .....Cheers !!! read more
