Fortunately, I arrived early and was able to find street parking close by and didn't have to endure the bitter cold too long Design: The architectural designs are breathe taken! It's something about "antique designs that I am always fascinated with. Food: My friend & I decided to have dinner at the restaurant next door (don't remember the name). I wanted to grab a drink at the Fox, however didn't want to miss out on any of the play standing in long lines. Service: Everyone hustled to get in after going through the metal detector or being scanned by security. There were staff members present to guide you to your seat. Overall Experience: I truly enjoyed myself. I definitely will be back!

I'd…read moremention what we experienced while attending this studio for over 16+ hours a week over the course of 3 years with 2 students. When daughter hurt her foot, she was advised to wear a boot from ortho until day of show to rest her foot, she was yelled at for moving "too slowing" when marking in tech even though the doctor instructed her to take it easy and walk slowly to rest before recital. Charging extra for adult costumes are normal bc it's more expensive from vendors but I was charged $5 for all of the costumes when my dancer had many child XLs. When questioned, office manager said it's not very much money. But my child was in over 13 dances so it adds up. Rule is rule right? Technique is lacking for older more advanced children. The classes are merged or canceled due to lower numbers. No real substitute teaching staff, when someone is out, the replacement is not well versed in the style of dance or not qualified to teach at that caliber. Maybe it's different now bc they have better teachers. All kinds of food are allowed in the studio rooms only for pre pro children. No regards to allergies as those are the same floor dancers roll on for contemporary, stretching or conditioning. My dancer rolled over cheese and crumbs weekly. One particular night, my dancer's friend had a medium allergic reaction to tree nut found on the floor. They did not have Benadryl on hand, so mom had to rush over to administer meds. This dancer also stayed home for a few days bc the allergic reaction was intense but no studio follow up after the incident. Balanchine based conservatory ballet school only has 1 1 hour technique class a week. Seems they have changed it to 1.5 hours for 2 days now. Rep and company class does not replace technique. In these classes, they are learning new choreo. Also pointe is normally offered right after technique, last year it was after lyrical, which is an elective. Only 1 1 hour pointe class a week for a 12 year old is not enough for a conservatory based dance school. No viewing the entire year at studio, handbook said once a quarter, but it's since been removed. Spent entire year having only seen my dancer at paid events like the fox theater, Busch stadium, and ambush where tickets are pricy. Dancer enjoyed community outreach, when we first joined the studio, company members danced in front of nursing homes and local parades. Didn't happen at all last year. Why can't you see your kids dance in the studio? On website, it says, "Instructors hail from prominent companies such as Joffrey Ballet, ABT, SAB, Alabama Ballet, Big Muddy Dance Co, and Ballet 314", but bio of teachers doesn't have anyone who has danced at Joffrey Ballet, ABT, SAB or Alabama Ballet.

The golden pillars, high decorative ceiling and the whole architectural structure of the place is reminiscent to a classic opera house. I've only ever sat at the lower mezzanine close to the loge boxes. The seats are plush and comfortable and roomy enough to not feel like you're atop one another. They also have built in cup holders for your beverage. Their concession stands sell adult beverage and soft drinks or bottled water and popcorn. The prices are akin to that of other concert venues (e.g., a can of seltzer or beer for $13-14). They have canned wine but generally not a fan of wines in a can. I would imagine they would be more of the boxed wine quality but who knows. I've attended the Radiohead x Brahms concert here which was amazing and more recently, Tori Amos. Phenomenal venue for the concerts I've attended! The acoustic is excellent, nice stage production lighting, and the incline of the mezzanine seating are perfect that even if someone tall is in front of you, you will still get a good view of the stage. Their ushers are very helpful and the concession workers are very friendly. Basically, from the moment you come in, there's always someone helping you if you have issues locating your seats, the bathroom, etc. I need to check their event calendar more often and attend more shows here. The…read morestaff didn't make it clear until very late that we should not be on the side of the building lined up where there were hundreds and hundreds of people, but rather we should be on the front. But they held the start of the concert and we were able to get in before everything started. Inside the venue, it was nice. The bar staff was working really hard and they were very competent and the restrooms were large and things moved quickly. It's a lovely historic facility that was very enjoyable.

If there wasn't a disclaimer, the Sheldon should add this to future events. It should be a check box you must complete acknowledging you must walk up several flights of stairs. I saw people with canes walking up stairs. This is not safe. Once upstairs in the balcony, the steps leading to each row are very steep and the step to the lowest row is a huge drop without any warning. I understand we don't want to destroy the character of this beautiful building but something must be done to warn people. Suggestions: 1. Warn people in advance 2. Fix the step to the bottom row of the balcony so it's not a huge drop Or, stop using this building for events, especially the balcony.

Still loving this gem in St. Louis! I try to make at least one performance each year...this year…read morewas Tango Buenos Aires. Dance St. Louis really does an amazing job at curating their seasons. Usually there is something for everyone. This year boasts Dirty Dancing, the Dance Theatre of Harlem, Tango Buenos Aires, ballet from the Aspen Santa Fe company, and Stomp, just to name a few. Next year is really going to be over-the-top, as they are planning on hosting Momix again and also the Nashville ballet collaborating with some St. Louis groups on Carmina Burana. I've been to performances of both, and they are really fabulous. I love the community feel of Dance St. Louis. They try to engage the audience; yesterday the dance company held a tango class in between their shows. It was really neat to see so many people...of all walks of life...wanting to participate! They do so much community outreach too...from dance classes to scholarships, such as the high schoolers they recognized yesterday. Prices are so reasonable, especially when all the seats are pretty good at the Touhill. They are still continuing on their yearly Spring to Dance Festival over Memorial Day weekend, which shows a conglomerate of dance companies all over the country...and tickets still cost between $10 to $20. How could you not love St. Louis for all of its dedication to art?!
