    Mocha frap and Carmel frap

This was the best coffee in the UP. Super cute small business and fast, friendly service. They really know how to make good coffee. I couldn't decide if I liked the mocha or Carmel better, but the Carmel was my drink and I finished it quickly. I wish we could go inside to look at the decorations.

We received a tip to stop into the Dancing Crane Coffee House from a blog we read on line while travelling through Michigan. The baristas here must be the friendliest in the all of the Wolverine State; they explained how they brew coffee, offered tastings and helped us decide which to ultimately purchase based on our individual taste buds. When we asked for some information about the Lake Superior byway, one of the baristas gave us a free map and recommended that we visit the scenic landing for Monocle Lake; we were super pumped that we listened to her suggestion. Definitely make the Dancing Crane, which also offers homemade goodies, a pitstop to refuel with coffee when driving on the Upper Peninsula!

I had driven by Dancing Crane many times before I finally stopped in, and I'm glad I did. It has a nice, rustic atmosphere with plenty of seating, board games and free WiFi. They also have a drive-thru. It is independently owned (which is obvious even from the outside) and there is a small, friendly staff. While there I met the family that owns it and helped them raise a wall on the expansion they were building. They are nice and welcoming, and know their coffee. They roast their own coffee and espresso, and find their international products at cafe roasting conventions. I ordered a double espresso and a dark roast (two separate days) and it was well roasted, smooth and flavorful. They also have food, including hot dogs, burgers, brats and veggie burgers. This place really was a welcome surprise, and I will be telling family and friends to stop in (we don't live in the area but do a lot of camping and vacationing in the UP). Great owners and product, and a nice place to hang out for a while. A truly unexpected gem.

This is a great spot with a friendly wonderful atmosphere & fabulous coffee . I recommend and will be back as today was my 1st visit.

We then thought, let's wait...pizza didn't sound too appealing. Thankful we did. The food didn't take near 45 minutes. They had just served a group of 30ish motorcycle club members causing the wait. I can tell you the moo (locally sourced from the owner's brother), fin (whitefish from Lake Superior) and the fries (fresh cut!) are all great! The owner checked on us and shared his story of opening the restaurant. He built the furniture, did the stainless work, tables, benches...all of it! Not sure we'll be back through the area anytime soon, however, if we are, we'll definitely go back. I mean, we tried everything except the ice cream...so we have to? I heard it's a state law.

But for whatever reason, we'd always put it off when visiting our cottage in Moran, Michigan each June. Then today me, my wife, and our dog Jax dropped in. It was EXACTLY how I thought it would be. Old school drive-in vibe, friendly server, and delicious burgers in the comfort of the family SUV. Even the fries and onion rings were perfect. We ordered a plain burger patty for the dog, and our server even brought him a biscuit treat! Who does that? We'll be regulars every time we visit our Yooper friends in our favorite state from now on. There's a Taco Bell next door. Nobody cares lol. Go there now. Unless they're closed. Go hungry if you decide to tackle their 1/2 to 3/4 lb burger. I thought I was hungry until that 1/2 lb burger came. So heavy, but soooo good. If you want a good old fashioned burger, this is it! No wonder they have a legacy and long wait time. Ours was 20 minutes this time. We had stopped another time and went in and found out it was over an hour. We passed then because of time constraints but nothing was holding us back this time. If you have passed this iconic place in the past and not stopped, you're missing out. They have other things on the menu besides burgers, so you should be able to accommodate most people in your group. So good!

Blessed from all directions. A patty melt was on the menu, so that's what I got. I can't not get a patty melt if I see one on a menu! This one was beefy and melty, with caramelized red onions between two slices of rye bread. All of the burgers and sandwiches come with plain potato chips and a pickle spear. We also got a regular cheeseburger and bleu cheese burger. All of the burgers are served on a pretzel bun, which is not my favorite type of bun, but I wasn't eating those burgers, and the eaters didn't seem to mind. Chuckwagon has a small kids' menu (the Lil' Buckaroo's Menu), with four items on it. Your kids can choose from a pb & j sandwich, a hot dog, a grilled cheese sandwich and mac & cheese. My little buckaroo chose the mac & cheese, which I believe was Kraft mac & cheese. Kids' menu items don't come with anything additional. This is a small restaurant with limited seating.
