We haven't stopped here for many years so we decided to try it today again and we were so happy that we did! The ladies were so kind and welcoming to us and the shop is lovely. We were excited to see that they roast their own coffee beans and so we tried the black coffee-one light roast and one medium roast. Both were delicious and we plan to return for more! read more

Cute spot - I noticed in passing. Seems like teens ran the place or very looking young adults but they were kind. Pretty much just an ice cream (few flavors), coffee, and gift shop wrapped in one. Please note - when getting your drink make sure to be specific but she did suggest I taste before leaving so make sure it was to my liking. No receipt but the ice cream is the same. Served on Mackinac Island and she gives you a pretty hefty scoop. Happy Eating!!! read more

We just moved to the area and I saw this little coffee shop down the road from us while heading into Soo and made a mental note to check it out. This morning while heading into town, I opted to stop in so I could have my coffee on the ride into town. I pulled in and found many potholes, which seems common out here and are easy enough to detect as they're usually heavily filled with water. I found a spot amongst the four other cars there, and noticed a truck pull into an operational drive through window. What a nice touch for the cold winter months. I went inside and looked around briefly, a beautiful log cabin aesthetic decorating the place and stunning wooden detailing. The barista was friendly and gave me a warm welcome when I introduced myself as a new resident and shared excitement on being at their establishment. She seemed just as excited and eagerly made my large hot caramel latte. She focused on my drink before helping the new car in the drive through, and cashed me out efficiently with an option to tip at checkout which was nice. While waiting, I had noticed a big beautiful log table behind me with two older folks playing cards wearing cafe apparel, it looked as though they may have been the owners but did not acknowledge me. While glancing around the counters, I found a cooler to the right with bottled drinks and some prepackaged pastries and granola bars on the counter, though nothing really caught my eye. They had an abundant amount of flavored syrups, and she apologized for the heat but wanted me to try it before I left to "make sure it was everything I was hoping for". It was even better than anything I would have gotten at Starbucks or Dunkin! I expressed my satisfaction and went on my way, shooting the boyfriend a text saying I wanted to take him there this weekend. A super cute place that has beautiful culture and a friendly staff. Pricing was comparable to Starbucks and while my drink felt a lil light on its fill, I wrote that off as being potentially due to whip cream as I didn't open the cup. Would absolutely come here again, and probably will be daily while I have to go to town for work. Update: have been back like four times since and wonderful everytime. Bought jewelry from a local artist while there and had consistently good drinks and great service! read more

We hit up their drive-through due to COVID. All of the drinks we got (some iced coffee and a cappucino) were really good and had a lot of flavor. The kids got some muffins and really liked them at first, but only ate about half to start (they were pretty large). We also got a maple cinnamon role that I enjoyed, but it wasn't loaded with cinnamon so my wife didn't like it as much. The staff was really friendly and I will come back here again if I find myself in town. read more

We received a tip to stop into the Dancing Crane Coffee House from a blog we read on line while travelling through Michigan. The baristas here must be the friendliest in the all of the Wolverine State; they explained how they brew coffee, offered tastings and helped us decide which to ultimately purchase based on our individual taste buds. When we asked for some information about the Lake Superior byway, one of the baristas gave us a free map and recommended that we visit the scenic landing for Monocle Lake; we were super pumped that we listened to her suggestion. Definitely make the Dancing Crane, which also offers homemade goodies, a pitstop to refuel with coffee when driving on the Upper Peninsula! read more

I had driven by Dancing Crane many times before I finally stopped in, and I'm glad I did. It has a nice, rustic atmosphere with plenty of seating, board games and free WiFi. They also have a drive-thru. It is independently owned (which is obvious even from the outside) and there is a small, friendly staff. While there I met the family that owns it and helped them raise a wall on the expansion they were building. They are nice and welcoming, and know their coffee. They roast their own coffee and espresso, and find their international products at cafe roasting conventions. I ordered a double espresso and a dark roast (two separate days) and it was well roasted, smooth and flavorful. They also have food, including hot dogs, burgers, brats and veggie burgers. This place really was a welcome surprise, and I will be telling family and friends to stop in (we don't live in the area but do a lot of camping and vacationing in the UP). Great owners and product, and a nice place to hang out for a while. A truly unexpected gem. read more

Me and my friends drove past this place a few times thinking it was just another artifact of the scenery of Brimley. We were camping at Bay View campground, and of course, we hit a rainy day. One of us conveniently remembered there was a coffee house down the road, so we took off in search of warmth and shelter together. First of all, upon parking and walking up, the place started to stand out more. I thought to myself, "Wow, what an interesting building, this looks like more than just another coffee shop." Opening the door and looking around I saw that this was certainly more than just another coffee shop. The walls were lined with crafts and products made by hand from local artists. From incense and sage, to oils, to jewelry, to coffee cups and dream catchers, and so much more. The staff were extremely friendly and welcoming. I received a full rundown of what they offer, how they source it, and how they prepare it. They had a huge selection of drinks and even food. The service was fast and the coffee was delicious. I received a free sample of a different drink while we were in the shop playing games to pass the time. I fell in love with the atmosphere at the Dancing Crane. The walls were covered in artifacts and crafts but it didn't feel cluttered. They played really good blues music the whole time we were there and I felt like I got more than just a coffee. Truly a gem, and very happy to have found it. I'll be visiting again when I'm in the UP. read more

This place is a must-see anytime you come up to the Lakeshore Drive east if Brimley. Dozens of choices for coffees and smoothies and juices and baked goods. Jim will make you a burger or a brat if you are hungry. He may even regale you with stories of the Ojibway (Anishinaabe) tribe. The places has tables for sitting to eat or to play cribbage or other table games. There are gorgeous Native American crafts available for sale; we have done much shopping for gifts there. Jim and Cathy LeBlanc are down-to-earth, warm people. This is my favorite coffee house in the whole world! read more

We ran across this unexpected place this July 4th weekend (2010) when driving to the Tahquamenon Falls. We were immediately drawn to its quaint kitchy exterior. Inside you are greeted by the warm and welcoming husband/wife owners and cozy atmosphere with several tables to enjoy a cup of fair trade coffees or teas (the owner fixed me up a good cup of spiced chai tea). They also serve fruit smoothies, ice cream, quick bites like brat hot dog or burger. It's the perfect place to kill some time as they have a variety of board games, tabloid magazines, books, local art, etc to amuse yourself with, if like us, you get caught in some bad weather. They have a small outside porch which is where I drank my tea, listened to good music (they had the Sirius Blues station on) and relaxed while watching the rain pass by. If you're passing by, make a short rest stop here. I highly recommend it. read more

Wow, stumbled upon one of the most incredible little coffee shops today. Kathy, the owner and operator, was very sweet and accommodating. She gave me a warm welcome and allowed me to sit in the coffee shop for hours. What hospitality! And the coffee is spectacular - they roast their own coffee so it's nice and fresh! As we stepped across the threshold of this little coffee shop in Brimley, MI, we were greeted warmly by the owner as she worked deftly to manage customers both in the store and through a drive thru window, unfortunately the drive thru alerted the owner to customers with an alarm sound that was abrasive to the ears and rather shocking when it went off. The owner invited us to sit as she placed a sample of a green tea smoothie for us to try. Although this is something I don't think I'd order willingly on my own, I was pleasantly surprised by the fresh, sweetness that this small swallow provided. As the owner balanced the many orders for customers (including my husband and I) without help, she explained that her husband had built the coffee shop over a decade ago, using 80 trees, with a smile she said, "He built it, and I filled it." And filled it she did! The small shop has some tables, a love seat, an abundance of art from local artists that can be purchased and other small goods like bagels, teas, coffees, etc. My husband and I enjoyed lattes, but they were as good as any we've had across the country. While seated at the counter, the owner's husband, and builder of the shop, regaled us with his background, and how he came to build this coffee shop which was an enjoyable story. However, he also offered many other opinions about our nation in general, along with several publications of his personal manifesto for us to read, which I could've done without. The coffee was good, although options in the area are limited, the owner was busy, she could use more help, if you visit you may want to stick to the drive thru. read more

While I agree with others regarding the atmosphere, I was a little underwhelmed with the coffee. I had a breve latte which was not too bad but it always irritates me when the cup clearly is no where near being full. When you pay top dollar for coffee, you expect a little more. It was nice to try once but no need to go again. read more
