Five stars for one of my two favorite local places to grab whole beans - the other is Olympic Crest. The staff here at this location are what give this place an edge. They are so knowledgeable and friendly and helpful. They give great suggestions, the option to taste the brews really makes a difference. The first time I came here I was looking for something specific (a dark oily roast similar to a Cuban roast/blend). The staff there that day gave some suggestions but stated there was a staff member from Florida who would likely know better. When I came back in a couple weeks later with a friend, not only did the girl remember me, she had actually asked that other staff member and gave me their recommendation! I was blown away by the service. I've gotten good tea here as well as coffee and will definitely be back! I was still working my way through their original suggestions and so I kept that in mind and stopped by a third time for the suggestion- they were out but called over the the cafe around the corner to see if they had it available pre-packed and they did. Again, the service really sets this place apart. Great place for coffee lovers. read more

Super fun experience learning about my personal coffee palette. The staff had dried coffee grounds out in front of the brewed coffee so we could smell and taste each roast. We saw beans and learned about the farmers and sourcing of specific blends and how they are roasted to perfection to elevate each flavor. Highly recommended for coffee lovers everywhere! read more

This was a fun experience! We decided to check this out before we went to the Farmers Market on a whim. While we are unclear if they do tours (we wish!) we had a great time. When you enter the tasting room, you can see a huge window into their factory/production (PLEASE DO TOURS). Their merchandise is beautifully displayed and they have their coffees ready to be shared behind their counter. One thing I love is that you can get SPECIFIC amounts of their beans here. While I am not sure of their minimum, that was pretty great. I bought some of their holiday blend which I think may be their best blend. I also got some really cool looking teas. I couldn't decide between them so I went with one of each! I loved sampling their coffees and I can't wait to come back! This is a great go to before getting your Farmers Market goods. read more

I always have a wonderful experience in the tasting room, and today was no exception. I came in to honor my father, who passed away yesterday. He and I had come here many times to sample and buy coffee, try out new ways of brewing coffee, and just talk coffee. As always, the servers did a good job of leading me through the tasting of their delicious coffee blends and I was able to smile thinking about the good times my father and I shared here. I've been a customer of B&B's for all their 30 years. They make so many great coffees. My favorite is "Dancing Goats". It's unique, perhaps, that there is a coffee tasting room in the fashion of a winery. Taste before you buy! And get some coffee knowledge while doing so. Drip coffee as well as expressed drinks are available too. In addition, they sell cups, coffee makers and coffee storage systems. They are very knowledgeable and wanting you to make the best cuppa at home with their beans. When you ask for your purchased beans to be ground, for example, they not only ask whether you are using a cone or flat basket coffee maker, they also ask "paper or metal" filter. Absolutely the best coffee roaster we have ever found! Super friendly and helpful staff at this location. They usually have about 6 different roasts brewed and ready to sample. Their Dancing Goats blend is our absolute favorite! We travel an hour each way just to keep our stock up. I need to make this explicitly clear. This 5-star rating is for Batdorf & Bronson's coffee roasting facility and tasting room. Not their cafes (which are 3 stars at best because Batdorf & Bronson's ONLY area of expertise is coffee and not espresso-based drinks). In any case, if you admit to the staffers at their coffee roasting facility and tasting room how little you actually know about coffee, they will graciously educate you. Don't be afraid to ask questions and invest in your coffee education by buying conservative amounts (half-pound bags would be sufficient) of whatever you think would brighten your mornings and practice making coffee at home with a nice French press. If done properly, French pressed coffee can give you a nice espresso-esque buzz. read more

Their iced vanilla latte is the best I've ever had. And that's saying something since I've been all over Europe and to some mean national coffee houses. OK, I have been to the tasting room once. I am a regular commercial customer. This is the only roaster I have found who will cater to restaurants who don't do tons of espresso. They will sell as little as 1 pound, but I get the 2 1/2 pound bags since they are sealed and vented. We use their "Dancing Goats" espresso blend. I don't really know how to describe it other than it is very smooth, not bitter and not that over roasted / burnt taste I hear about in reference to the main espresso dealer in the state. If you are not a commercial user, I believe they sell coffee out of their tasting room and Bayview Market, among others, carries Dancing Goats. read more

Note: a lot of the reviews (and the photo) posted under this listing are actually reviews of the B&B coffee house, which is located down the street on Capital. This location is just a roasting facility and tasting room. It was okay. They give free samples of fresh-brewed coffee, which I thought was great. The server helping me was a little shy and not super informative, so that was a negative. The coffee itself is good but didn't blow my socks off. Also, they do not sample espresso here, just drip, which is weird because they sell espresso roast and you can't get the same experience tasting that in a drip form. I am leaning towards 3 stars for my personal beverage experience here but I'm taking into account my traveling companion's coffee and overall ambiance of the establishment so I'm going with 4 stars in the end. After walking around town in the drizzle, we were cold & wanted a nice warm-up. Coffee, chai & spiced cider were ordered. From what I heard, the coffee and chai were good. Quite good. And a welcome alternative to Starbucks down the street. My spiced cider was local and made by Latin's so I was excited to try a local specialty. However, I was slightly underwhelmed by what I called, 'hot juice.' It wasn't spicy really or have much complexity, (as far as cider goes) so I was warmed but not exactly blown over by it. The entire was made better though because we snagged a lovely leather couch & chair at the back for some nice sit-down time to rest our weary bones. The place was crowded with locals studying & reading; it had a nice, relaxing feel. I will return here on my next visit to Oly to try their java for sure. read more

I've never visited the B&B cafe, never even been to Olympia. Probably couldn't even find Olympia on a map. But this is some of the finest coffee I have ever tasted. I read about Batdorf and Bronson a while back, in an article in the New York Times about buying coffee online from premium roasters. Sumatran and Costa Rican coffees are some of my favorites, and B&B's are outstanding. Thanks to their whole beans and my French Press, I can make a decent cup at home in my own kitchen. Often, blended coffees aren't the greatest, but B&B's blends are very tasty -- I've enjoyed their Dancing Goat, Omar's Organic and Skye Mountain blends. Never had a single problem with ordering online or getting the items I ordered on-time and in great condition. Why don't I drink this coffee all the time? As you can imagine, it's the price. A lot of their varieties are in the $12 - $14/pound range. Kind of pricey, especially when I can walk over to Porto Rico Importing Company and get their specials for $4 - $5 and other coffees for around $6/pound. But, for special occasions, or when I feel like splurging, this is the place to go. read more

Ever get confused when a barista describes a coffee as citrusy or earthy or chocolatey? I know I do - here is your opportunity to test out coffees from different regions side by side and see how they differ in flavor. They give a tour of the roastery on Saturday mornings at 11:30am, me and two friends were the only ones there but we had an enthusiastic tour guide who gave us an excellent tour of the facility. (if you go on the weekdays, you can actually watch them roasting the coffee). This could make a great day trip in the summer as it is right next to the wonderful Olympia Farmer's Market. read more

If I could, I'd give this place a thousand stars bc it is the BEST place I've ever had coffee. This place easily blows any chain coffee shop out of the water. This location is convenient for when I want to head over to the farmer's market. I have only tried the vanilla latte, bc it is so goood. If there is a better coffee roaster in the United States of America, I'm not aware of their existence. B&B coffee is as good as it gets. They have great variety and the quality is unsurpassed. They are what a fine vintage red is to winery as coffee house is to this coffee. Didn't make sense? THEIR COFFEE IS LIKE FINE WINE...not the typical dishwater and burn ash (i.e. Starbucks) you find everywhere else. The best thing is you don't have to live in Olympia, WA (yuck, worst place ever) to enjoy their coffee. You can obtain it online at dancinggoats.com Their one pound whole bean bags are only pennies more than what you would get down the street if you include tax. The physical coffee shop that is B&B is nicely laid out. This is probably the only business in this town that doesn't sell Thai food or Pho' or alcohol that actually turns a profit. The clientele is the same group of hipster/elitist/a-holes that run this town. No matter them. You got the baristas who are far from nice, passive aggressive to the max, but eventually get the job done. A nice place to work on projects I suppose. I do business which requires I travel and I get the opportunity to meet clients at various locations. I came to Yelp, plugged in Olympia and "coffee". This place came up as the best-reviewed, so I made a Noon appointment on Monday to meet someone here. I pulled up to a place that did not look like a coffee-shop, though it definitely smelled like a coffee factory. I parked, walked up to a door, but could tell it was more of an office. As I began to walk around to the other side of the building, a gentleman with a wireless headset came out and said this was this BB office and the other side of the building was the Tasting Room; however, they're closed on Monday. Now, it could be my fault, but I have never run into a coffee house that was closed at Noon on a Monday. Needless to say, I waited for my client and we walked across the street to Dancing Goats (?). I'm leaving this review so travelers don't make the same mistake I made; however, I don't think it's fair I give them a bad rating, so I am giving 5 stars based on their awesome coffee smell and the nice gentleman who kindly informed me they were closed and pointed me to an alternative and gave me directions. read more

In my humble opinion, this is the best coffee in the Northwest. If you know northwest coffee, than you know how much this opinion means! I don't spend any time at the actual establishment, as I usually have my parents ship me their coffee, so I have no opinion on that. After drinking various coffees throughout the last 8 or so years, I always come back to B&B for the best. Something about their coffee just screams "northwest," which I love. B&B is one of the best reasons to live in Olympia. They make some of the best coffee I've ever tasted, particularly if you are lucky enough to catch them brewing Ethiopian coffee. I'm not sure why some have marked that they don't have outdoor seating. There are always at least 2 outdoor tables - even in the dead of winter. read more
