I was in town staying at a nearby hotel in need of a quick bite but nothing too heavy. We found this place and decided to give it a try. I actually had a job project nearby years ago and ate here. Located in a shopping center with plenty of parking, you shouldn't have much inconvenience coming here. The decor and ambiance is very old school American. Hot rods and checkered print all around. Like a time capsul and the food also gives the nostalgic feeling. I ordered a hot link with sauerkraut and mustard with fries. First I want to say that the fries were so simple yet they stood out so much. I didn't even use ketchup to eat them and ketchup is one of my vices lol. The hot link was everything you could ask for especially at that price. My +1 said they really liked the polish dog and said they are gonna start ordering polish dogs everywhere from here on out. So you might say they left a good impression on them. The servers/owners were very friendly and attentive. I asked them about the history of the business and they have been owners for about a year now but the restaurant has been there for 40 years prior to them. So the history speaks for itself of the quality. I also told the owners how much I enjoyed the food, I could see the appreciation from them and how serious they take the business. It was also my wedding day! I told them they made the beginning of a special day that much more memorable lol. read more

A great find! My family was craving hot dogs, but it was only this and Caspers, which I am glad I did not end up going to. They not only sell hot dogs, but also hamburgers and sides (fries and chicken wings). Each hot dog comes with mustard, relish, pickled onions, and tomatoes. I ordered two Polish sausages and a Cajun hot link sausage. The wait for the food was a little long but they grill everything to order. I would recommend getting two hot dogs if you're having a meal; otherwise, one hot dog is more like a snack. Inside the store, there are several tables so you can dine inside. The interior was very nicely decorated with retro style furniture and pictures. read more

Small mom&pop fast food, no frill, clean, simple, hot dogs & burgers, good quality food. Had the classic hot dog (grilled hot dog at order timeframe), very satisfactory. Could've eaten 2 classic dog or a jumbo dog, but on road trip I like to eat light. No soda fountain, just refrigerated bottled/canned soda limited selections + Kirkland bottled water. If you want more drink selections, go to Rotten Robbie gas store across the street and get your drinks there first (great coffee) then come to this eatery. BTY this is the best Rotten Robbie ever, clean, well stocked, staff helpful and respectful! It was recommended by mom&pop. Definitely will return to Dandy Dogs whenever passing on road trip. Classic dog under $6. Think I'll try kimchi dog next time around. read more

Cute spot, decent food, but when it's 100° outside, it doesn't need to be 96° inside (I could see the thermostat on the wall). Also, it shouldn't take 15 minutes to make one hot dog and some fries, it shouldn't cost $16 for a combo like that (yes, I know, rent is high - that's why I paid it and tipped well), one fly buzzing around me is one fly too many, and the beautiful mural on the wall should not be covered up by empty drink coolers and storage of equipment. Don't have pictures in the window of food you don't offer anymore (i.e., gyros) and honestly, if you're going to charge that much, how about we pile on the condiments that i am not offered to put on myself? Every time I'm here there's the same two folks at the counter. The owners. It shows, their hot dogs and hamburgers are unique and well made with elevated ingredients. Everything else is nostalgic and classic. What these things used to be. Not what a super franchised and commercialized industry turned it into. Happy to become a regular at happy dogs! read more

Best burger in town!! Better than Bens Better than Johns Char If the last time you went and tried Dandy dogs, was when the Armenians own the place, then you are missing out. They either died or sold it and now some sweet couple bought it and they take pride in their work. The service is fast and efficient. The place still looks like it did when the previous owners owned it, which is why i had been so reluctant to go back. Now, i am so glad i did. I recommend the wagyu cheeseburger, if you dont care about a 17 dollar burger then bobs your uncle, the regular cheeseburgers are also terrific, but the juice that comes off the wagyu is almost comical. This kind of cheeseburger is best enjoyed you just need to dig down on a regular style cheeseburger, fresh toppings and no frills. This isnt the egg washed bun, filled pattysuper bougie (bourgeoisie) burger at most high-end restaurants. This AINT made by Guy Fieri, but its REAL BEEF and its REAL GOOD. 10/10 would burger here often. read more

This local spot has an extensive menu. We ordered a chili dog, hot link and polish sausage and fries. The staff (owners maybe?) Were very friendly and everything was served fresh/ hot. I did think they almost had too many options on the menu, but we enjoyed everything we ordered and will be back. They have limited tables inside and 2 tables outside. read more

It was the mushroom Swiss burger but I can already tell this is the type of place where I will make my way through the whole menu. Reasonable prices. Great quality. Their gyros in lamb or chicken have generous amounts of meat, and a white sauce. It is delicious! Pair this with garlic fries or fried zucchini and it's a perfect meal. I was leaving a review for another local hot dog joint and I had almost forgotten about Dandy, which is another Tri Valley comfort spot. The Chili Cheese fries here are next level and I really like the slightly thicker texture of the rolls they used. Its sorta like other local spots like Ben's Burgers- they do things a consistent way and have for as long as I can remember. My wife took me to Dandy Dogs for the first time today. It's small but has a neat diner vibe to it. It looked very clean inside - note, no public restrooms. My wife had the Old Fashioned Dog combo which she really loved. The hot dog was plump and snappy and the bun to dog ratio was perfect. The seasoning of the dog was great. I had the Cajun Dog combo - super tasty. I'd rate my heat scale as low to medium so the Cajun was a tad spicy for me - no slight on the dog, it was perfect and I enjoyed it. It was really just a personal preference thing. If your heat scale is on the low side, you may want to consider an alternative. The final test were the fries. We both thought, "pretty good" but not the best fries we've ever had. Still good though so no regrets on ordering the combo. Net/net, we really enjoyed the lunch and will be returning soon. read more

Update: After a long and daunting week I decided I needed a Dandy Dogs fix. So glad I tried their jumbo dog this time. Totally what I look for in a classic old school dog. Hot and perfectly prepared with sesame seed hoagie roll. The chili cheese fries plus jumbo dog will be my regular order, and I anticipate becoming a regular even though this joint is 35 minutes from my house. Original: I tried this place for the first time today. Shop has apparently been here for decades but has new owners, who I have to say are a delightful couple. Very sweet and hospitable. I'm highly critical of food, and I came in today completely starving, so there was a lot on the line. I decided to sample their cheeseburger, hot dog, and chili cheese fry. In general, everything was fresh and hot. Fabulous start. The hot dog was good, but I found the sweet brioche bun a little distracting--that's a personal preference. So I switched to the burger, which was terrific. Perfectly cooked, melty cheese, fresh lettuce and tomato, nothing complicated to screw it up. Just simple and classic and fresh. The chili cheese fry I was skeptical about because I didn't see much cheese, but it turned out they had layered the cheese with the chili to melt it and well, I ate the whole fucking thing. It was a touch on the spicy side, but I enjoyed it. Smelled more spicy than it actually was, and the cheese helped. I was glad to see cans of soda available since few places have good coke on tap anymore. Place was clean and parking was easy. And I'm no longer starving. Thanks Dandy Dogs! read more

We were visiting my girlfriends childhood home and when reminiscing about places to eat from her childhood and she remembered this place being one of her faves so we stopped in to see if it still lived up to here memory of it. It did and then some. She got a cheeseburger and I got a chili cheese dog and both were marvelous. The service was spectacular as well. What I can only assume were the owner operators were extremely kind and were very appreciative of the business. One the way out I got shakes to go and I even ordered a burger to go so I could have it later since my girlfriends looked so good. I needed some food in my belly ASAP and came across Dandy Dogs. Affordable non-fast food junk food? Sold. The first thing I noticed was that the place feels a little run down. There was even a sign that said customers couldn't use the restroom per the health department (or something to that effect). Anyway, I ordered the Jumbo Dandy Dog and Onion Rings. The hot dog was okay and the onion rings were delicious. Everything is made to order so you need to be patient. Service wasn't very friendly or professional. This place was a hidden gem. First I'm going to have to emphasize the criteria of my review. Food, Service, and Price. This is a fantastic hot dog joint that maintains it specializes in hot dogs. It will be graded as such. I see other bad reviews on this page talking about how their fries or onion rings might not be the best...and that's the wrong way to review a place like this. You don't go to a Chinese Cafe and order their French Toast, and you don't go to a Hot Dog joint and expect their chili or cheese to be any different than a grocery store. Come here for the HOT DOGs or the SAUSAGES only! Their food is great. They can either steam or grill your sausages/dogs (on request). They toast the buns, and they use fresh toppings and condiments. If you try to go fancy or go overloaded, you're going to go into the troublesome territory...but if you now how you like your dogs/sausages, they will make it right here. Service is very friendly. They're very friendly folk, and I see some people here that were very angry with their service. It's family run, don't act like they owe you things, and treat them with respect, and they are very kind people. The price is also very reasonable. Sure, it doesn't match up with Costco, but the quality you get is much better. You don't have that problem where the bun sticks to your dogs here. Probably one of the Best burgers in Livermore. Total old school Fries , cut like a medium size steak fry and fried to perfection. The Burger is made on a char broiler. It is beautiful in my opinion. They definitely build a good burger here. Nice people, nice food and nice service , very friendly folks . You can not go wrong at Dandy Dogs in Livermore.
