Ive been coming to Dandy Dogs since I was a little kid. I'm still a big fan of this place although it has been sold many times since the 90's when Jim owned it. Great place to stop for a quick hot dog or sausage. They have a very expansive menu but I usually just do the sausages or hot dogs. Very friendly staff. Dandy dog has been around a long time. every item is labeled dandy dog, dandy hamburger, dandy shake, etc. they have a dandy small dining area with a couple of dandy tables which had dandy napkin holders on top. menu: hot dog, shakes, hamburgers, fries, onion rings, sodas.... sampling: regular 2.95, got dandy jumbo dog, 3.75 -dandy dog was foot long, chewy, tender, some juice, but no flavor. probably not all beef. barely had any condiments on it: relish, mustard, onions, tomato. leftovers -didn't relish dog. read more

So glad we went here. The dogs are around $5 each- but the size (portion) is great. I had a bratwurst and my husband had the polish sausage. My older daughter had a hot dog. Fried foods (french fries, onion rings) are done well. Milk shake was great, but portion was smaller than I am used to when ordering a milk shake (usually places give you a large glass with some leftovers in another glass, this place just makes enough for one glass). It is true, service can be a little slow since they have a small kitchen and they are family run, but I'd still say it is worth the wait!! Where are places like this back in the greater Oakland area? Grilled. Smoky flavor. Thin slices of (non-crispy) bacon. If crispy bacon is for you, this ain't the place. The burger is solid. It's not a fancy burger place, but it sure hits the spot. The dogs here got different grill marks depending on which you get (some are sideways, etc). Regardless, I found the colossal, polish, and even just the regular dandy dog to just be dandy. This is my new, favorite hot dog shop. I feel like I just came home from a summer BBQ. I ordered the hot link and the jumbo dog. The hot link is grilled as well as the bun, and it's not over-powered with oil (I only ate one but I wish I'd gotten two). The flavor is delicious, the char was perfect, and I really like that all dogs come with onion, relish, tomato and mustard. So refreshing! The jumbo dog is definitely jumbo, and it's really juicy! The worst hot dog I ever had. Definitely not Caspers nor anywhere near it. I would rather have a hotdog from Costco any day than this one. The condiments were very little and anything extra they charge. The Pepsi was flat obviously they don't change their CO2 tanks. We stumbled upon Dandy Dogs after a very long drive head home from the west. Weary, tired and back worn, pulling into a mini mall of a half dozen restaurants we picked Dandy Dog because of its comfort food qualities. Personally, anything having to do with hot dogs are on my list of eats long after sushi, Indian, Duck and even Italian. So I served up with Bratwurst, which surprisingly was huge, perfectly roasted and prettily dress up with just the classic amount of mustard and other condiments masterly laid out for you. To tell you the truth, I haven't seen this before, usually lately, where I've noticed if you are served a hotdog, you're the one having to lay in all the condiments. Not Dandy Dogs.. unlike Costco's $2.50 dog, the buns are dry, you are having to lay down germy sneezed on ground pickles and having to hear cash registers clinging in the background. Those are the better points. ... The restaurant is classic for a mini mall... with cool color images of 50's hot rods (not hot dogs) and Elvis the Pelvis tapping away on a jukebox. I take off 2 stars from a perfect dog all because I made the mistake to use the "employee restroom" . It was clean, but I had to share it with mop and mop water and other supplies. This is important because restaurants, whether fast food or not should have provisions by the health department to provide 1 bathroom and should be handicapped. There is a place for that mop and those supplies.. if not, they need to figure it out. I am glad and grateful that I was able to use it. Never the less, part of that two stars was the fact that if space is tight in the back.. they need to spend some time reorganizing the kitchen. Living like that is hard on the employees... read more

Some friends and I got the Colossal Dandy Dog. It's a half-pound hot dog. We paid extra for Chili Cheese and they were fantastic. The beer-battered onion rings are crispy and the garlic fries are drowned in garlic. The curly fries are delicious. I wanted to try a lot of things on the menu and it's a shame that the drive is about an hour. The whole place is set up like a 50s diner and it's very niche and doesn't try to make itself anything it's not. I really liked that they didn't advertise the colossal dog as a 1/2 lb dog. A great place for a good hot dog & a burger. Had the biggest hot dog I have ever seen before in my life. It's called the Jumbo Dog. Had to wrap it up & bring the rest home. It has a 50's theme with Elvis on the juke box. It's a mom & pop store with very friendly owners. Good food with a good environment. The only draw back is the pricing. It is expensive. I grew up off East Avenue and use to go to Dandy Dogs to play Video Games in the mid seventies after school.When there was the old Big T Grocery Store there. And Kavanaugh Liquor's. Changed ownership recently but glad to see the Dogs are still the same since I was a kid. Will always have a soft spot for the old place.I just enjoyed two cheese dogs and loved them.Takes me back to the old days of Livermore.....glad some things can still stay the same. Cool about this place: it's frozen in time: created to look 50's with that "made in the 90's as a 50's look place" so, it's cliché and cool all at once. The food was very good: fries, ect. I have been coming to this restaurant regularly for almost 4 years now and I have to say without a doubt this is my favorite fast food joint in Livermore. I have recommended it to multiple people and they have all said similar things about this place. When I first started coming here it was under different management, different recipes, ingredients and more. Even then everything was on point, the owners were amazing people, the food was delicious, and it was given quickly. Under the new management things just got better. The price went down, the quality of the food changed for better with their signature smashed patties and toasted buttered brioche buns and fresh vegetables. Only thing that might've increased is the wait time, but once you get your food you realize it is totally worth the wait. The location is in a very nice strip mall. Fun fact, every last Saturday of the month they host a monthly car show in that parking lot. It just adds much more to the actual restaurant and it's beautiful 60's themed walls and style so if you plan on going to one of those, Dandy Dogs is the perfect place to stop by. Me and my friends are frequent visitors of this establishment and don't plan on stop coming to our favorite restaurant anytime soon. read more

About to go here for lunch again and realize I haven't yet made a review yet! I almost wish I didn't find this gem because I can't not get a shake when I go here and I really don't need a shake. I get the chocolate peanut butter shake and it is AMAZING. Best shake around hands down. I can't comment on the food too much cuz I tend to only stick to a few of the items on the menu. However everything I've had (burgers, salmon burger, shrimp basket and zucchini sticks) has been really great. It's not super fast, but I'm ok with that. Everything is made fresh to order.
