There are a lot of old school burger places in California. One offs or small chains who fill a neighborhood niche. Ben's fits firmly in that category. They offer burgers, fries, onion rings, hot dogs, milkshakes, etc. The space is no frills. they have about 1)2 dozen tables inside and a few out. They have a small staff and five off those mom and pop vibes I love. The burger was solid ( fresh toppings, good sized patty) and the onion rings were wonderful. They were crispy and had just the right amount of crispy ness. And the prices? More like 2006 than 2016. I got lunch for under $15 bucks ànd couldn't eat it all. Although Ben's is in a small strip mall, the area is mostly residential. So if you don't happen to be in the neighborhood, you might never find it. If you are a burger fan, you should visit. Came here around lunch last weekend. We got a hawaiian burger and bens burger with a large side of onion rings and strawberry milkshake that came out to be around 30$. Everything was made to order and came out super fresh! The burger comes in a french roll and was super crunchy and delicious! The large onion rings came with 9 huge pieces, also super crispy! I ordered a cheeseburger, fries, onion rings, banana shake, and chicken nuggets for my family and I to share. The only thing I really liked were the onion rings and the nuggets were inedible for me. Okay, truth be told I have driven by this place and not given it the attention it deserves. There was a recent article about having the best fries in the bay area, which I read at the dental office. So of course, I'm at the dental office with my twin 14 yo boys and say we need to check it out! My kids want to come back, mostly because we are really comparing prices with fast food right now, otherwise I do all cooking at home. It's gotten so expensive! We felt for the price, getting super thick, yummy milkshakes, 3 burgers, family fries and small onion rings, it was similar in price to In and Out without the family fries, meaning, it's a WAY better deal and the food was good! Why the 4 stars? Well, I do love my fries. I don't eat meat but hate a greasy taste. The fries were indeed crisp and hot on the outside, but the inside was like letting a grease bucket flow. I tried them super hot, and then hot, and then cooler. I liked them better a little cooler but still crispy on the outside, seemed super greasy on the inside. I know, they are fries, but felt kind of like a sponge full of grease with some crispiness to me, and I literally came for "the best fries". Great little hole-in-the-wall type of restaurant. I'm surprised that I have not been here after frequently passing by after visiting the nearby park and library. The burgers we ordered were delicious: hot, fresh and perfectly cooked. Service was a bit spotty but we did visit on a weekend night while they were slammed. It did get crowded at one point with the line going out the door. So, if you are planning to dine here, try to come during off-hours or there may be a wait for the tables. Fantastic little hole in the wall... The french rolls Bens uses for their sandwiches, the burgers, BLTs, and whatever else are a fantastic unique identifier for some fresh grilled right in front of you home food from the neighborhood hangout. Also super mellow that you don't have to deal with all of the restaurant parking structure and whatever else you have to fight with when you're going downtown to eat. Ben's is wide open and easy to get to and plenty of parking. 10/10 would come back here again next time I stop in Livermore. read more

Bens burger is a Livermore staple. If you grew up in town and did the whole 90s or older public pool thing at may-nissan, then likely you also stopped at Bens burger before you headed home. Decent food, decent burgers, great milkshakes and the same people that have always done it. It got that, nothings changed since childhood kind of look and sometimes thats what you need in life. People from elsewhere that are just moving in to town, or have been here for a while and really like the way livermore feels, should feel invited to try Bens burger. We've been in Livermore for 15 years, and I have never tried this place. I do love a good burger, but for some reason it seems very difficult to find. Finally decided to roll through on our way home from a camping trip, ordered a couple 1/3 pound burger combos. Burger ate very dry, so disappointing.
