The office is aesthetically beautiful with artistic design and color and the receptionists are welcoming and knowledgeable. The examination rooms are spacious and the dentists are thorough and efficient. Procedures were explained in full detail and work to be done was itemized and reasonably priced. I am giving this practice three stars for their lack of transparency regarding charging and costly services. Dr. Massiah is a great dentist who helped me out during a dental emergency. However, he later passed me off to his partner Dr. Smolen, who started recommending tons of dental work that would literally cost tens of thousands of dollars -- most notably, he wanted to file all of my teeth down to crown them to fix an overbite. I insisted I wasn't interested, but every time l came in for a cleaning, he literally shamed me for not wanting to have the work down. Dr. Smolen would look at my teeth and shake his head and tsk and tsk and make worrying noises and again insist the work was NEEDED. But it wasn't! Read the rest of my review! But there's more! I needed gum tissue graft surgery, and the office recommended a specialist, who was great but didn't take insurance. I was told repeatedly that not working with this specialist and going somewhere else cheaper was not the best course of action, and I would even regret it -- again, tons of pressure to spend a bunch of money. I had the surgery, but it took me two years to pay off. Later I learned that the more affordable places that do this kind of surgery are just as good as the expensive places -- plus, more affordable places accept insurance! The only differences are the materials used. And the more affordable materials, for me, work just fine. Lastly, I was always charged around $75 to $100 extra for teeth cleaning, and I kept asking why because cleanings are FREE with my insurance. The front desk told me maybe my insurance changed. Anywho, I started seeing a new dentist who is doing an implant and takes my insurance. Full disclosure she is charging me HALF the amount quoted by Dr. Massiah and his team of specialists charge. She is also offering me interest-free financing, which is HUGE. I don't have to go into debt again. I explained what happened with Dr. Smolen, and my new dentist shared that dentistry can be very subjective. Overall, she said my gums look healthy and that my overbite isn't a serious issue (unlike what Dr. Smolen shared). Also, my new dentist doesn't charge me extra for cleaning. read more

I went here for a couple years but finally had to stop all communication. This is the creepiest office. They are constantly trying to upcharge and shame me into coming 6 times a year for cleaning. Personable is one thing but these people get downright nosey and in your business. Very hair stylist vibes here, not very professional in the way that I prefer. Or like a real doctor's office. Feels stuck in the 1980s Jamaica. Probably a good fit for people from the islands or something but everything about this place feels smarmy and low key scammy. read more

Like everyone here says, Dr. Messiah and the office staff are friendly. The hygienist was great and my cleaning was thorough. However, I feel unnerved at the treatment I received while I was a patient there. Dr. Messiah convinced me to let him remove two perfectly fine fillings so he could replace them. These fillings were newish and I had no discomfort with them. He convinced me it was urgent and that they were damaged. The work was invasive and left my bite just barely uneven enough where they could not do anything to fix it. One of the fillings stayed tender for months. When I told Dr. Messiah about it, he said it would get better. I brought it up again, but still he told me to not worry. I would have liked a more thorough response. Dr. Messiah also convinced me I needed a crown immediately. I booked the service, but when I showed up he changed his mind and told me I needed braces instead. Before I knew it, the orthodontist from across the hall was there selling me on a very pricey plan. At the time I believed him and the orthodontist, but in truth, I never needed braces and fillings don't need to be replaced every five years like he said. read more

I went to Dr Massiah over two years ago to have a veneer reattached, since I don't have dental insurance, I paid the fee right then and there. Today, once again over TWO YEARS LATER, i got a call from his office claiming I have a remaining payment due (the full amount), and that I needed to call them back immediately to avoid collections. How you screw up the bookkeeping on a bill paid in full on the spot is simply beyond me, moreover not having the wherewithal to realize that after two years have passed that I probably am not on a bloody payment plan is also inane. So unless you enjoy receiving threatening phone calls for THE REST OF YOUR LIFE apparently, I would advise avoiding these swindlers. read more

How reassuring to find a response posted regarding my bad experience OVER THREE YEARS LATER!!! Now that I live on the opposite coast, no, Dr Shaun, there really isn't anything you can do to make my experience more positive. It took six months of healing along with a procedure by an oral surgeon to undo the damage caused by this "simple extraction". Even today, my routine cleanings are so terrifying, I have to be medicated to show up for the appointment. I would sooner die in a fire than ever see this horrible dentist again. read more

The staff is so friendly and nice and makes it a really enjoyable experience. I was so impressed that the receptionist remembered me and the fact that I had a twin, after meeting her only once 6 months ago at my first appointment! Dr. Massiah is very kind and honest, and does not claim you need procedures when you really don't. I was running 30 minutes late to my last appointment and I was certain they wouldn't see me, but they were so accommodating, seeing me right away and didn't seem bothered by it at all. I really appreciate how understanding they were in not giving me a hard time about it. I agree with the poster who said the office is expensive. I have dental insurance that the doctor DOES participate with but the office still managed to try and hit me with a $200+ bill for services I am covered for. The doctor is extremely extremely friendly which is good but a little too personable for my taste. He was also very hands on with the office administrative duties which threw me off a tad. The hygienist was very nice and seemed very knowledgeable. The woman at the front desk was nice as well but didn't seem to know much about the office however she was a temp so I guess thats why. Over all the office and staff was ok but what made me give them such a low rating was their greediness. I would have like to have known what I had to pay for and if there were fees involved prior to them snatching my child into a room and beginning to work on her. read more

2013 was the year of dental work for me. I had a wisdom tooth extraction, impacted molar extraction, cleanings, and various other work done in 2013 just trying to get my mouth into the new millenium. Let me emphasize this. The customer service and professionalism is of the very highest quality. Everyone is super friendly and super professional. So much so, I actually am happy to go to the dentist! Dr. Massiah is gentle and hyper aware of any sensitivity you may have to pain. He stops if you need him to and is patient with you if you need that as well. All of his equipment is the very latest and state of the art. They took pictures of my molars which had lost its filling and a monitor swiveled right in front of me to show me what my tooth looked like and why it needed to be removed. The same for x-rays. He even showed me an animation of the procedure that was going to be performed on an ipad. The tools he used to extract my molar were a relatively new set of tools developed to make extractions less intrusive. He showed them to me and explained in. This is what you want, a dentist who is constantly learning and staying on the cutting edge of technological advancements in the field. I had to be referred to an oral surgeon for my impacted wisdom tooth. Even that experience was awesome. I expected an impacted wisdom tooth extraction to be painful and difficult. Instead, it was done so quickly I thought the dentist was leaving to get another set of tools. Nope. He was done! Awesome. The hygienist is also patient and gentle and takes her time to explain what she's doing, why she's doing it and what I should be doing at home to improve my oral health. 5 stars. I dont know who those staff members were, but I do know that his staff now, is 5 star material. Every single one of them. I read some of the reviews and see that some folks are motivated to put negative energy out there even years after the experience. I'm glad I hadn't seen that before I visited Dr. Massiah. I've been to this office about 6 times in the past 1.5 years. 6 visits isn't a fluke. I really cannot recommend a dentist more highly. I leave the dentist's office feeling confident that I've recieved the very highest level of dental care. One really cannot do better than this. read more

After reading the reviews on Dr. Massiah, I decided to call for an appointment. I had been experiencing tooth pain for some time, and I got an appointment the same day! The staff are extremely nice, competent, and personable, and go out of their way to help/accomodate you. It's very convenient that they have text message alerts to remind you about appointments. The dental care was pretty good; I came in thinking I had a cavity... they found 5! The pricing may be a little high, but if you have insurance, it's not too bad. Getting 5 fillings was painless as could be expected (i.e. only getting the shots hurt). Only problem is that my mouth stayed numb 4-8 hours after I had gotten out of the office; maybe a little too much numbing medication, but I'm not complaining. I'm definitely going back! read more

I recently visited New York to attend my son's graduation, and on my second evening there my front tooth broke off and fell out! I was mortified to think of spending my week there with no front tooth, meeting my son's friends and mentors.. I was 9 hours from home and my own dentist and needed to find emergency medical care--on a weekend no less. Dr. Messiah came to my rescue. I called and he got back to me immediately, went out of his way to make me feel relaxed, and saw me right away. My tooth was restored and my week in NY went on as planned. Dr. Massiah is very friendly and his office staff are very kind. There were a couple fumbles with setting up my account as the computers weren't working that day. However, once that was set the office staff did their best to accommodate me. Aside from having to endure quite a few fillings, I enjoyed my experience there. He wants to make sure each client is totally happy...they even called the next day to follow up. Great service. *****SO that was my first review above. What a naive girl I was. ***** Sadly, those fillings were given to me on 6 perfectly good teeth. Yes, that's right. I had ZERO cavities and Dr. Massiah drilled into my beautiful teeth and put porcelain fillings into 6 teeth!!!! I found this out because a year later my teeth were STILL hurting (and I had gone back to him to try to fix the problem although my bite felt off and me teeth extremely sensitive as he drilled too deeply~with no remedy). Since I got no relief from a second visit, I decided to ask for my original x-rays he had taken and go to a new dentist. This new Dentist looked at the x-rays and said I had had NO CAVITIES!!! My whole life I never had but one teeny cavity in the very back of my mouth so why would I suddenly have SIX because I was now in my 30's??? Ugh!!! I had just had my first baby and have heard for years that women's teeth go to hell when they get pregnant because the baby leeches calcium from your body. Well, I surely was shocked when he said I had 6 but I just trusted him because he was so nice and seemed to know what he was doing and I had not been to the Dentist in about 3 years (no insurance). He was the "Professional" after all. Massiah never corroborated with the X-rays -only this new toy he had just received (called the Diagnodent) that is supposed to determine if someone has cavities by placing it inside your tooth and it BEEPS if it detects a cavity. Well, dang it, yeah-I had some natural deep grooves in my teeth but ABSOLUTELY NO TOOTH DECAY!!!! What an idiot!!! I've recently had to have one of these fillings fixed already!!! Needles to say, I was pretty upset and confronted Massiah by writing him a letter. He never responded. Luckily (or unluckily) I live in the same building as his office so I ran into him one day. I asked him why he didn't write me back and he mumbled something about how I just went off about the Diagnodent-and he didn't understand. Yeah right- he didn't understand. Either he is the stupidest person around or he is the sneakiness charlatan. I told him that I wanted to be reimbursed for my fees paid and that he had to reimburse my insurance company as well. He did reimburse me (as he surely feared a lawsuit) but never my insurance. Cheat. BEWARE. STEER CLEAR. CHARLATAN AFOOT. NICE ON THE OUTSIDE. NOTHING ON THE INSIDE. CHARMING BUT DEADLY. I was referred to my current dentist by my former dentist, Dr. Nathan Watson, when he decided to relocate to the west coast. Everyone in this office has a great smile which is very important to me if you are going to be taking care of me teeth. My dental hygienist, Soeurette, is absolutely amazing. She has great chair-side manner and really makes my teeth shine. My posterior work was done by Dr. Massiah, himself. His calmness puts me at ease through any procedure and his desire for perfection makes me feel comfortable in his care. Dr. Massiah and his staff were very friendly and courteous. They made sure that I was comfortable and the exam was very thorough. However, the xray tech did not really know what she was doing, and had to keep re-positioning the film and taking photos. The mouth piece was too big for my mouth and it felt like she was cutting into my gums. Also, when I called to make the appointment, I was told that there would be a $25 co-pay. When I got there I was told there was no co-pay, however after the cleaning I was told that I would need a gingivitis rinse (which came out to $25). read more

The hygienist was very thorough and explained everything to me as she did it. She made sure I was comfortable during the cleaning and also gave me excellent advice to improve my oral care. pros: friendly, knowledgeable staff, very clean and soothing decor. i had an excellent cleaning. the practice is in my insurance's (metlife) network. cons: i came for a crown and was given a recommended "treatment plan" listing every possible thing that could be done to my teeth --including braces (i am 55 and have survived thus far without them!) totalling $14,000.00. no arguments, though, when i refused all but the essential treaments. also, i expected to see dr. massiah which was not the case. when setting up an appointment make sure you request dr. massiah if you want him. the other dentist is fine. another con: no weekend hours and very limited after work hours_i believe one day only until 7 pm. read more

I saw Dr. Allen for annual check-up and was very happy with the service. The office is clean, professional, and welcoming. I was impressed by the attitudes of the entire staff - like everyone really enjoys working there. Dr. Allen has great bedside manner and explains everything clearly. The only drawback is that the staff and doctor offered additional services many times throughout the visit - felt a little like an up-sell - but I understand they have to run a business. This is a very good dental office. The only downgrade of star that I will give is that, like others have said, prices are a bit high - maybe because they have so much high tech equipment to help give such excellent care (while expensive, with insurance ok) and they also try to upsell you in the office (flourides, screenings, invisiline to my husband, etc.). That said, you get what you pay for - great service with a friendly staff. I've had both Dr. Allen and Dr. Massiah now, and both have been pleasant. Sourette is an excellent hygienist, and reception has always been nice and easy to work with. One thing that led me to write this review was today's service - there was an intern in the room while I was getting a filling. Many of you would say - wow, intern...not good. But it was a great, telling experience on the professionalism of Dr. Massiah. He spent a good deal of time providing teaching moments for the intern, of which included bed-side manner and care for the patient (things like, don't make sudden moves because the patient is already tense about getting a filling; remember to ask how the patient is feeling and make sure they're not uncomfortable and stop immediately if they are). Seems simple, but shows he cares - and bed-side manner is fewer and farther between for more doctors than not these days. Anyway, I will continue to go here and recommend them to others. read more
