Wow! An amazing burrito joint. Love the laid back casual vibe! Perfect for this tired family after a full day on the beach. The staff were super friendly and helpful with their big menu. They have a bunch of protein options that you can get on a burrito, tacos, bowl, salad, etc. so many great options to choose from, we had such a hard time deciding! The cashier suggested the carne asada burrito with kimchi for my husband who loves spicy food and he was super impressed! The perfect amount of spice, a wild blend of flavors and the burritos are huge! I got the shrimp burger tacos, which were delicious! Perfectly fried shrimp with a tasty slaw and a sweet sauce. The serving sizes are great, each entree comes with yummy seasoned chips and we ordered guacamole and queso to dip which both were great! We have eaten here a couple times and I must say each time is worse. Started at 5 stars and now we are down to three. The food took a little while to get to us even though they were not busy... empty tables etc... but that's ok, I have no problem waiting for fresh food. I ordered the teriyaki shrimp tacos. My first taco had no flavor and the second was over drenched in sauce. My guess is they sauced the same taco twice. Which I can over look a mistake, just don't mess with my guacamole. This was definitely not fresh, trust me. I make my own a lot. The color had started to turn and the taste was of Guam that sat for a while. I had to add lime juice from the lime from my taco to get it edible. Don't think I will be going back. read more

GREAT establishment. Being a BBQ fiend, I had to order the pork belly tacos, while my girlfriend ordered the mahi mahi tacos. Both were absolutely amazing! I want to be fair here so I'll start off by saying I'm a vegetarian and I can only base my opinion off their veggie items. So, I swung by Kmart today and picked up some veggie soft tacos w/soy ginger slaw. There was a line and people waiting but ordering was quick and easy. They accept cards, awesome. Food was ready in no time... Picked up my order and it was love at first sight! Seriously, they were visually beautiful. But then I picked it up, or tried to and I was put off by how cold the tortilla was. Still, the initial flavor was good. I really liked the slaw but me & my taco were screaming for more of it! Sad thing is, once I got past the slaw & dressings it was just a boring taco with flavorless rice and beans. For $6.00 it would have been nice if they'd offered some sort of vegetarian protein other then just beans. Maybe tofu or seitan? Anyways, I also picked up the mac n cheese but it also left me underwhelmed. It was kind of reminiscent of boxed mac n cheese sprinkled with truffle salt... Except really mushy. The noodle integrity was non existent and it tasted way over cooked. In their defense I imagine this could be really good if it was fresh but I really don't think mine was. It all looks tasty. But I called for delivery, which they advertise extensively. First, they don't have a phone system set up for delivery. No hold-- if they're on the other line, you have to call back. Which I did. Over and over. When I finally got through, I was informed of a $30 minimum for delivery, which they say nowhere on their web site, their Yelp, their menu or any of their ads. As a single hotel guest, that's a little steep for delivery. I didn't continue the conversation to see whether there was a fee for delivery as well. Another caveat: nothing on their online menu has any prices. Very rare to offer a review of a place I didn't eat. But the whole thing strikes me as a bait-and-switch that shouldn't be in the delivery business. Don't offer it if you don't want to do it. Boo. I sought alternative delivery. read more

I have wanted to try this place since I saw the food truck. But living in New Bern, I never knew where the truck was. Then....they won an award for "best food truck!" Then....they opened at a restaurant location! Score! Now I can try it with out tracking down where the truck is parked. So, once I made it in, I tried the Carne Asada Burrito with Kimchi. Portion size was very hearty. Not thin strip of beef either, these were MAN size. And flavor?! It was packed with it! Really well seasoned . The beans and rice had great spices and flavors to. My order was to go, but I did stick around to load up at the salsa bar which has all kinds of spicy toppings to choose from. They give you a nice bag of homemade seasoned chips with your burrito. Those to are hearty. Not thin tortilla style, but thick corn shells fried up nice. The place was clean. The help staff greeted me as I came in and continued to be super friendly even though there were tons of people and lots of buisness to distract them. The South is pretty big on comfort food, which I get, but it's incredibly boring. Dank Burrito is unique and interesting; a good change for this area! It's the perfect balance of all the things we like about Mexican and Asian food. I had a Mahi taco and a shrimp taco, both were really good, but when the owner asked me how they were, I was honest and said I wanted a little more flavor and spiciness to them. He came and bought me samples of their Jerk chicken and carne asada with kimchi. WOW. They were both incredibly tender and so different and delicious. The kimchi was just enough and not overwhelming at all, and the Jerk chicken was herby and spicy. That sample confirmed I'd be coming back again to try them in a meal. The ingredients these folks use are delicious combinations. The Pork is complemented by a ginger slaw, the beef(carne asada) is a spicy masterpiece, and my personal favorite, the jerk chicken is sweet and tangy all at the same time with its mango salsa. Plus for the price you get a ton of food I usually eat a lot and one burrito fills me up plenty, and for those who may not be able to handle the enormous burrito they make tacos with smaller portions that have the same awesome ingredients. They also make it incredibly easy to find out where they'll be. They have a facebook page with weekly schedules and specials. I even synced their Google calendar with my smartphone. Now I get notifications days in the future of the place and time they'll be serving. This truck is amazing and will be a Carteret County eating staple for years to come. read more

Hit or miss food & solid atmosphere. Was in the area after going to the beach and decided to give the food another shot as I have not been to Dank Burrito in a couple of years. Tried their pork belly, cajun fried fish of the day, and carne asada tacos; and I cannot say that I was that impressed overall. The pork belly tacos were good, especially with the pickled veggies but the meat was a bit burnt and hard to chew through. The fish and carne asada tacos lacked flavor, with the carne asada only being a step up from the fish tacos due to the spice level that helped give it a bit more oomph than the fish. The side order of guacamole we ordered was absolutely uninspired, completely bland, and honestly extremely disappointing. A couple days later, a family member brought back some more of the cajun fried fish of the day tacos and they were extremely delicious. I had absolutely no complaints with the food that day. From what I can remember from my previous visit all those years ago, my current experience was about the same: hit or miss, as I said at the very beginning. And although I critiqued their food above, I'd still say it's one of the better restaurants to get a burrito or taco at than others. Ok so we made a special trip to Morehead City from Kinston, partly to try this place. Overall, we were pleased. I had the Asian pulled pork taco and the jerk chicken taco. The way they season their meats is very good. My friend got the tree hugger burrito with mango salsa and guacamole. Again, it was good. The only thing I really have to complain about is the salsa. Not a single one of them (there were 4 to choose from) were good. They were either overwhelmed with the flavor of cumin or really had no flavor at all. They are in need of some salt and lime juice to provide a little bite. Also, if you're looking for spicy you're not going to find it here. Not even the "hot pico" salsa was spicy. They do provide a variety of bottled hot sauces but that's the only way you're going to get some heat. Overall this place was good. It is reminiscent of Flaming Amy's in Wilmington. By far one of the best burritos I've ever had. We were told by my husband's aunt who lives in the area how good they are and read about it just about everywhere and it appeared to be one of those "must" go-to's while in the area. We stayed in Beaufort and drove to this little fast food burrito bar specifically because of the good comments. I ordered the Carne Asada burrito and husband had the Teriyaki Shrimp burrito. They will make you never want to eat Chipotle again. They should put up more Dank Burritos across the country. The only downside was that they ran out so fast of the salsa at the salsa bar and was barely enough pick de gallo left in the container, and completely ran out of the cucumber jalapeño salsa that I really wanted to try and never filled it up by the time we left. Whenever we visit again I will be going back and trying the mahi burrito and hope they will have all the salsas. Also, the pico wasn't spicy, but the carne asada burrito was perfectly spicy and the chips were delicious. The poster inside right next to the door was hilarious--make sure to read it when you visit.
