Danny's used to have really good chicken strips. They were thick and cooked perfect. Now you spend $19.60 and get these pencil sized strips, nothing but fried flour, and so overcooked, you cannot chew them. When I got home yesterday, I called the store. The young man who waited on me at the drive-through was very polite. He took down my name and said he would present it to the manager. I put them in the refrigerator to take back today just so management could see the order themselves. However, I'm not wasting my time or my gas to go back. Food is hit or miss. Some days will be great then most days not so great. Fries are always under cooked. Red beans and rice is not what you expect and very bland. The food was good BUT they didn't get my order right and the Fried Chicken had a greasy taste to it. Green beans were good as well as the mashed potatoes. This fried chicken is like a cross between KFC original and KFC Krispy. I had dark meat, my husband had a breast. Nothing particularly exciting about it, but it's not bad fried chicken. They do have crinkle fried which I love...they cooked them fresh and hot for me. The menu needs a little zing to really be successful. If they put Popcorn salt on their fries and threw a fried apple fritter in your box (the size of a hush puppy with powdered sugar) they could probably break wide open and go wild! So easy to make since you're already frying everything and know how to do hush puppies! (I'd love to give you the recipe from "Catfish King" a well loved Birmingham institution from the 60's! Danny's was a childhood favorite of mine. I now live 1000 miles away and it's the first and last place I eat when I go back home. Plenti pack and fried mushrooms all day long for me. Mouth watering. Maybe it's the nostalgia for me, but nothing else has compared. I can taste the special sauce just thinking about it. I don't mind slow service for fresh food and a smile. I'd wait hours. Love, love, love the food at Danny's! I've been eating at Danny's since childhood. Lately they seem to close earlier and earlier and even when trying to call in a to go order they take the phone off the hook. They have started leaving super early but have yet to update their hours on their website or anywhere else for that matter. The one time I did get someone on the phone, the young lady on the other end of the line answered the phone with " we're not taking to go orders" no greeting, nothing! Who in the hell answers the phone at a place of business where your job is serving the public like that? I am not someone who ever leaves reviews and I mean NEVER, but this has been going on for quite sometime now, so I'm hoping maybe just maybe someone will read these reviews and do something about it because Danny's is my fave! I will continue to be a Danny's patron regardless but if these few things I've mentioned were amended there would be no stopping Danny's in my humble opinion. Hope springs eternal! read more

Yep. I went here today. The need for crunchy grease was calling and I grew up on Danny's way back in the day. So my order was easy: one thigh, slaw and rice. I took it down the road to snack at one of the parks. The box was hot and everything smelled fresh. Well, they gave me a leg instead of a thigh. The first bite - quit reading now - was raw and there were feather sticks (not sure of how to describe it - that shaft feathers are attached to) fried up in the crust. The slaw was hot - not cool at all fro a mayonnaise product and after the feather gill situation I was feeling ill. The rice was a bit undercooked but helped me settle the belly a bit. It may have been a one-time experience, but there is no way I will risk another bite here under the worse of circumstances. So I need to revise my previous recommendation of this place. Sat at the window waiting for our delish fast Friday eve meal before the craziness of the weekend. I watched a woman touch food, with no gloves on...and her hands were in and out of her mouth!!! After watching for WAY too long, I disgustedly remarked from my car, "Don't let her touch food!! Her hands have been in her mouth!!" Apparently they had her wash her hands, and their apology was giving us extra fries. Danny's is a pile of mediocrity at best. The chicken is bland and unexciting, the sides come in tiny little cups and the mashed potatoes taste a little......gross. The fries are usually dry and inedible. The only redeeming quality is that they have a good sauce that comes with the chicken. read more

I visited this restaurant on Saturday Sept. 7th around 8pm,this is 3rd time for me,the 1st time it was awesome, the 2nd time average, this time,we waited in line for at least 45 minutes, because they gave our food mistakenly to the car waiting next to us, then got our orders completely wrong, and to make things even worse, we witnessed either 1 of the cooks or servers,outside at his SUV in back,smoking ,and just doing things in his truck, while wearing his rubber serving gloves! Went rt back in after about 15 minutes with same gloves on,and continued working as if he's sanitized! As with all restaurants there are bad days and good days. I have never ever been dissatisfied with the food from Danny's. I love the chicken tenders. Always cut fresh on the spot, dipped and cooked as they are ordered. The onion rings are out of sight.. Oh and the fried okra is yummy. You would never guess it was not fresh, cut, battered and fried right then. Whom ever does the cooking always cooks the okra just the way I like it. The sauce is so gooooood, If I had the recipe I would make it at home but nope no recipe. Place needs updating but they have been around for over 40 yrs, so it shows..
