    Not-So-Naked Potato with pulled pork

Went here for the first time with family who were vacationing in the area. I have never been to Jim N Nicks, and honestly rarely go to bbq restaurants as my family prefers my bbq. I was extremely impressed with this restaurant. Not only was the bbq on point, the service was incredible! Our table was visited several times to see if we were satisfied or needed anything! They even offered to refill our drinks (drinks are self serve). I also felt it was a great value for what you receive. I cannot vouch for other locations, but this one is exceptional and has changed my attitude towards eating bbq away from home! Thank you for a great experience!

Every time I visit Alabama and visit this restaurant I wish I lived here again ! I love Jim N Nicks and this location makes me love it even more. The staff is so friendly from their top tier customer service to their beautiful smiles ! They definitely make you feel at home. The food is always so fresh and hot and the cheese biscuits are my true addiction. I wish they would bring this to Texas!

This review is based on the Pensacola locations. There is convenient parking spaces unless you use the Handy cap parking. It is not a full service restaurant. You have to order at the counter, but their Point of Sale system does ask for tips. After taking your order, they handed me glass for me to fill up at the fountain station with the soda of my choosing along with a number that u put on top of your table. Like Hardees, they deliver your food. If you are going to ask for tips, then be a full service restaurant. Otherwise, disable that feature. The food was okay. I do like that they have a North Carolina style BBQ. If you are not familiar, it's vinegar base. The coleslaw is pretty standard. Nothing to write of about, but the greens was good. The dining room is self seating. You go to the counter and order, and you get to choose to sit inside or outside. They do have a sign on each table stating that tables are reserved for those who ordered. Kind of tacky. They do have a bar area you can sit at. With that, another restaurant with an identity crisis. It wants to look like a full service restaurant, but it is not. You choose if you want to tip or not. You shouldn't feel guilty if you don't because it is not full services. All I have to say is that I had to get up and refill my own glass.

Carolina style pulled pork with mac and cheese

We placed a to-go order recently and we enjoyed it. They have a lot of options for meat lovers. The turkey was tender and juicy. The jalapeño cheddar sausage had just the right amount of spice. The Carolina pulled pork was tasty. I tried the vinegar option. The brisket was a little dry for my liking but I am spoiled living in north Texas. The cheddar biscuits were delicious. Check them out!

    1pound rib plate!!

Okay, let me first say I was wrong, so wrong. And.... If has been a very long time since I have been to a chain BBQ restaurant. Nope, I believe the individually owned BBQ restaurant is always going to be the best. Let me tell you something, this was dang good!! I do wish that you could order from the table, nevertheless we did order from the bar so I was able to avoid ordering as we walked in. Don't ask me why it makes a difference - that's just me. I had the 1 pound rib plate with two sides. I chose collard greens and fries. I also got two of their rolls with my plate. Let me first say the sides were great - the collards smoky - not too smoky - and well seasoned. The rolls were fantastic and great for dipping into the collard's pot liquor. Very good!! I have always said if a BBQ restaurant puts sauce on their meat they have something to hide. No sauce came with my ribs, in fact there was no sauce in sight. The ribs were tender and juicy and very well seasoned. They did not need any sauce at all - ever! I did get some sauce just so I could let you know about. It is really good. Not thick and it compliments the rub already on the ribs. I could eat those ribs everyday. The jalapeño and cheddar sausage was really good as well. Our son got the Katfish plate and he loved it. Ate it all up (he is 17 so most things do not stand a chance!!) My wife had a basic stuffed, loaded potato and it was a solid choice as well. Make your way to a Jim and Nicks. It is that good. We sat at the bar, and our service was amazing. The bartender (maybe Hannah) was from Virginia. She provided quick, friendly service and good conversation as well

    Pork fat

Went in with pretty low expectations, but was close to my hotel, and those expectations were confirmed. Ordered bbq sandwich. It was basically a glob of pork fat on a bun. I've had worse at only one other bbq joint, and I've been in a lot of bbq joints from North Carolina to Texas. Slaw had a mustard base which I didn't care for either.

Beans, Mac, Turkey, Jalapeño sausage, brisket &fries

Nice atmosphere, BBQ was ok definitely not KC BBQ, turkey was good, baked beans were good not a bbq flavor but a good taste, brisket is bit recommended based on my KC BBQ, no comparison, jalapeño sausage is as good, mac and cheese was okay. Biscuits were good.

    Bones

I spoke to the company and they sent me a $30 gift card. I went through the drive thru, ordered 2 sandwiches with no sauce. They got that right. Once again, they did not get all the bones out of the chicken. We are so over this restaurant.

Carolina pork, lean brisket, cheese biscuits, collard greens and Mac and cheese.

3.5 stars. Stopped here to try some BBQ. Got 2 meat ( Carolina pork and brisket) which comes with 2 sides. Chose the Mac and cheese and collard greens. You can tell how good the BBQ will be, by the collard greens. Collard greens weren't cooked long enough and had that bitter taste. Mac and cheese was decent. Carolina pork is a dry pulled pork and was OK. Beef brisket comes as either lean or marbled. I chose the lean and it was very good. Waitstaff was extremely pleasant and food came out quickly.

Review: Even going during an off-peak time, Lambert's Cafe was completely packed--and it's easy to see why. The food here is great and incredibly plentiful. The catfish was excellent, and the iced tea was top-notch (plus, it comes served in a giant mug that I loved). The absolute highlight of the meal is the massive, fresh-baked "Throwed Rolls" being tossed across the room, alongside the servers walking around handing out generous extra portions of sides like fried okra. You definitely won't leave here hungry. Cons: The restaurant stays incredibly crowded and packed with people, even if you try to visit during off-times. Thumbs up / Thumbs down: Thumbs up! I would absolutely go back.

Unfortunately, that was the high point of the evening. When our table was ready, the hostess had us follow her, then abruptly stopped and sent us back to the hostess stand. We followed her again to a different table, got everyone settled, and then she returned with another party and informed us that we had been seated at the wrong table and needed to move. We were relocated to a rickety table beside the bathrooms. Once seated for the second time, we waited 10 minutes with no server, no menus, and no silverware. Various employees walked by offering pass-arounds of okra and rolls, but no one seemed responsible for our table. After another 10 minutes, one member of our party finally got up and retrieved menus for us. When our server eventually arrived to take drink orders, we mentioned that we still didn't have silverware. Someone later brought six sets of silverware--for a party of seven. We then waited another 10 minutes. Still no drinks. Still no silverware for the seventh guest. Still no butter, condiments, or anything to accompany the rolls that had been handed out. At that point, after 90 minutes from the time we arrived and without receiving a single drink or placing a food order, we made the decision to leave. I've eaten at plenty of busy restaurants and understand that mistakes happen. What was frustrating was the complete lack of organization, communication, and urgency from start to finish. Being seated at the wrong table was unfortunate. Waiting an hour after being seated without drinks or basic table service was unacceptable. We left hungry, frustrated, and genuinely shocked that a restaurant could be operating this chaotically. It was one of the worst dining experiences our family has ever had.

On a recent boys day out I took a few of my Buds to check out this new addition for Arizona BBQ,…read moreyeah you read right, Arizona. Colt Grill BBQ & Spirits just opened in downtown Foley, AL, and I was curious to see how their smoked meats and Western vibe would fit in with our Southern scene. This place is a big deal for Foley, it's set up in the historic Foley Bakery building, a 100-year-old landmark that's been closed since 2007. The building, at the corner of North Alston Street and West Laurel Avenue, got a major facelift over the past year, and now it's home to this BBQ joint downstairs, with apartments and an office upstairs. Colt Grill started in Arizona, with four locations there, Prescott, Prescott Valley, Cottonwood, and Village of Oak Creek. Foley's their first venture outside Arizona, and they picked it because they loved the South's charm and Foley's small-town feel. Walking in, the place feels cozy yet upscale for a BBQ spot. The exposed brick walls and custom furniture, sourced from the owner's family of furniture builders, give it a warm, authentic vibe. Brenda Marie Clouston, the owner, has a background in interior design, and it shows. The setup is pretty unique for the area: you order at the counter, but there's a full-service bar where bartenders bring your food if you sit there. My buds and I grabbed a table, but the bar looked tempting with its lineup of bourbons and signature cocktails like the Foley Bushwacker and Colt Margarita but only one pal took advantage of the spirits. And they have happy hour :-) The menu's got all the BBQ classics, but it's not just ribs and brisket. They smoke nearly everything pork, chicken, turkey, even their mac-n-cheese over oak hardwoods. I went for the sampler platter to try a bit of everything that included baby back ribs with campfire sauce, pulled pork with Kansas City sauce, brisket, smoked turkey, and a turkey brat sausage. The meats were tender and packed with smoky flavor, and the variety of sauces let me mix it up. Classic sliced white bread was served with mine but we tried the jalapeño cornbread, which was a standout, spicy but not overwhelming. The guys got a brisket plate and a pulled pork sandwich. They liked it but I thought the brisket could have been a little moist and tender. Overall the food was good and I will return. Service was friendly, though it got a bit hectic during the lunch rush. The staff was hustling, and you could tell they're still finding their rhythm since opening in early this yesr. I liked that they give back to the community every "Cowboy Cookie" sold donates a portion to Secret Meals for Hungry Kids, a local charity. The atmosphere was lively and the Western decor made it feel like a little piece of Arizona in Alabama. Bottom line: Colt Grill's a great addition to Foley. It's not just another BBQ joint, it's got heart, history, and some seriously good food. My buds and I are already planning our next visit. If you're in the area, check it out and come hungry!
