Food: I'm actually gonna rate each item because this is my Yelp account and I do what I want! Coleslaw - 6/10: It was missing something, like some heat or like raisins (kidding, kidding...). It wasn't bad just not the best I've had. Brisket Sandwich - 8/10: Big PLUS for offering a "lean" version! Nice. The only thing I would say is that the sauce was a little soupy. I prefer a thick, tangy BBQ sauce... but that's just me. Overall a great cut of beef! Mac n Cheese balls - 10/10: I've had cheese balls before, but these were friggin' awesome. They put brisket in with them! The outer layer was perfectly crisp, delicious Mac n cheese inside... I probably should not have eaten all 4 but I couldn't stop! Dang those were good. This is a chain BBQ joint I have eaten at in Birmingham and at this location in Foley, AL. The ambiance seems very similar to exact between these two locations I've tried as would be expected with chain joints. The BBQ always seems to be inconsistent with sometimes good, sometimes disappointing but usually mediocre. I think Hog Wild Beach & BBQ in Gulf Shores is far better than this joint and I only end up at Jim 'N Nick's when I'm limited by time and have to do something quick when I'm in town. During my most recent visit they were out of unsweet iced tea and they never got it refilled during my visit. Another consistent issue I've had here is they never have given me a spoon when I've ordered the brisket chili so that has always left me either on the hunt for a spoon or trying to eat it with a fork (now for my last two visits they have actually given me a spoon). They sort of kind of have table service here as they deliver your food to your table and sometimes different staff walk past and ask how you are doing which in the past here after you got your food delivered you usually didn't see anybody at your table again. So they have improved a tad bit over the years that I've tried this spot. Given the choice and available time I'm always heading to Hog Wild Beach & BBQ in Gulf Shores for a far superior experience but sometimes I will be stuck with the mediocre experience at Jim 'N Nick's to take care of my BBQ addiction. Went here for the first time with family who were vacationing in the area. I have never been to Jim N Nicks, and honestly rarely go to bbq restaurants as my family prefers my bbq. I was extremely impressed with this restaurant. Not only was the bbq on point, the service was incredible! Our table was visited several times to see if we were satisfied or needed anything! They even offered to refill our drinks (drinks are self serve). I also felt it was a great value for what you receive. This review is based on the Pensacola locations. There is convenient parking spaces unless you use the Handy cap parking. It is not a full service restaurant. You have to order at the counter, but their Point of Sale system does ask for tips. After taking your order, they handed me glass for me to fill up at the fountain station with the soda of my choosing along with a number that u put on top of your table. Like Hardees, they deliver your food. If you are going to ask for tips, then be a full service restaurant. Otherwise, disable that feature. The food was okay. I do like that they have a North Carolina style BBQ. If you are not familiar, it's vinegar base. The coleslaw is pretty standard. Nothing to write of about, but the greens was good. The dining room is self seating. You go to the counter and order, and you get to choose to sit inside or outside. They do have a sign on each table stating that tables are reserved for those who ordered. Kind of tacky. They do have a bar area you can sit at. With that, another restaurant with an identity crisis. It wants to look like a full service restaurant, but it is not. You choose if you want to tip or not. You shouldn't feel guilty if you don't because it is not full services. We typically order our bbq to go. I like the 3 meat sampler and have found the spare ribs are some of my favorite. They are tender and juicy. When I order online the food is ready when I arrive and throughly checked over before me leaving. There is plenty of sauce included. The pickup area is convenient and easy to use. The overall restaurant space is smaller than most J 'N Nicks locations but seating is more than enough and also has outdoor seating. There are TVs and a full bar for those who wish to partake. The Mac and cheese was melty warm gooey goodness. The brisket sandwich was so tasty (a mix of marble and lean). The French fries were scrumptious (better than the onion rings). Margarita was $10 but was a fairish price for the size. The lemon cake slice was $6 which was more than I was expecting but I can't be too mad cause it is still living rent free in my head and on my taste buds. It was mighty good pie. I am a little late posting this review (sorry!), but my family and I come here for our Mother's Day lunch. We have eaten at this restaurant at least a half dozen times or so. Our family gets together and eats out fairly regularly. I will begin by saying that after over 25+ years of working in the restaurant industry as a second or third job, customer service -- now -- is a FAR cry from what it used to be!! What stood out here is that Johnny and Josh both went F-A-R above and beyond to help our family and to make sure that even our fountain drinks stayed full! They repeatedly come back to our table to check on us and made sure nobody wanted or needed anything! They were hands down THE BEST!!! We have eaten here before with better results. I smoke pork butts occasionally and follow the "low & slow" path. Many hours of painfully anticipating the tender fat rendered "pulled" labor of love. Assumed a bbq joint as popular as Jim N Nicks would shadow my meager efforts. Last evenings meal was disappointing. Our pork was not cooked past rendering or pulled. It was fatty chunks of stringy pork on a tray. No evidence of smoke ring, bark or flavor. The bbq corn and fries were the best part of the meal. The A/C was so low, our food was cold within seconds of arriving. Not a fan of self-service models which pop up a tip screen either. Culver's does the same thing and doesn't expect a tip. My daughter comes here quite often and she recommended it. I ordered the baby back ribs with slaw and corn and it was very good. The best thing were the little corn/cheese muffins! WOW! Sooo good! The service was also very good. We ate in the outside patio, but the server came out quite often and filled our water glasses. My first time to dine at this location of Jim 'n Nicks in Foley, however, I have been a fan of this restaurant since the early 2000's. It's an order at the counter restaurant but you can be seated at the bar and order your meal there. There was lots of seating inside and out. We were greeted at the door and given a menu to look over while we waited in line to order. I enjoyed the classic pulled pork plate with baked beans and Mac &cheese and my husband had the classic spare ribs with baked beans and potato salad. I asked for extra BBQ sauce for the pork. I like the tangy, somewhat spicy flavor of the sauce. In addition, we both enjoyed the cheese biscuits that were included with our meal. So good in fact we came 2x in our weeklong vacay. I will say the consistency wasn't great in what you ordered time to time. Meats were really good. We got pulled pork, smoke turkey and a few tried the catfish as well the 2nd time. I personally loved the coleslaw, it was amazing the first day we ordered. Mustardy and a zing unlike any other I've tried. Second time it didn't seem as fresh and zingy. Their cornbread was SO good. Definitely get an order of that! My big complaint is there was no BBQ sauce with our order the first time. I don't like bbq swimming in sauce but you gotta have something to go with it!
