Came here for an emissions inspection because my usual car maintenance place doesn't offer it. I dropped my car off around 2 PM of a weekday without an appointment. They completed the inspection on the same day. There was a line of cars to be serviced so had to leave instead of waiting at the place. There was a mixup (IIRC gas station attendant recorded wrong model of car for my name and phone number but not sure why I didn't write that) so had to call the place two hours later to confirm ready for pickup. Got gas there after picking up and something was wrong with the nozzle of the pump on the southwest corner of the station (had some fuel in when picked up and didn't shut off immediately). read more

**I suggest anyone who goes to Dan's to read this review in its entirety as this business tried to scam me for $800 worth of unnecessary repairs.** I went in for a regular service at Dan's Merrifield Sunoco for a routine check up. I was told it would be done on the same day. Chris (the manager I believe) calls me back same day to tell me that my car axle looks like it's been tweaked and it's making a weird thumping sound and is "unusual" for a car this new. I never got into a serious collision so no idea how this could have happened. He said he would call me back for more details and he never did until the Monday. I didn't have my car for 3 days and he didn't even tell me they would be closed during the weekend? Okay.. Whatever minor annoyance. He asked me if I wanted to go through with the repairs after calling them a bunch of times on monday. I said yes if it was necessary and he proceeded to act like he was going go order me an axle and told me my car would be done next day after they received the order. I called him back 5 mins later to tell him I didn't want to get it done (I was going to get a second opinion). I ubered to pick up my car and Chris tells me to hop in the car to show me the thumping noise and I hear it as we drive around the block. I never heard this sound before I brought my car in so I was suspicious as this was a very noticeable sound I feel like I would have noticed.. Here's where it gets interesting. I take my car to a dealership for them to check it out and they basically said nothing was wrong with my axle and the reason the thumping noise was happening is because one of the wheels was unusually loose, like someone purposefully did it. The dealership sent me a video report of the inspection. I call Dan's back immediately and they tell me Chris is on vacation for a month. What a joke. I talk to a "manager" and he shakes me off saying it's just a quote and that the noise might have not been the axle and they wouldn't have charged me if that was the case. Then why would they quote me $800 for an axle problem if they didn't even diagnose the problem as an axle problem? Why did Chris clearly say it was an axle issue and also why did Chris "order" me a new axle before I called back after to void it? That makes no sense to make an axle order if they didn't diagnose the axle issue. This is a questionable business and I submitted the receipts I got from Dan's and filed a report. I have a feeling they are doing this to other customers. Please beware this business seems to be scamming people of unnecessary repairs for not trivial amounts of money. read more

Found this place with a quick yelp search! They were around the corner so it was an easy pick. Though I picked them for a number of reasons. 1. They answered my phone call quickly! 2. Their prices. 3. Friendly and quick service 4. They didn't recommend anything I didn't need. I recently went here to have my emission test done. They were very responsive on the phone prior to me going. They quoted the exact wait time I would experience once I got there. Hello all, I needed my truck checked for a crazy noise and I took it in to Dan's because it the closest one to my work. I dropped it on the way to work, the nice guy took me around the corner to my work which was great! Before lunch they called me to let me know what was wrong. It was a prob with the power steering, got an estimate, I told them to fix it and it was ready by lunch!!! I couldn't have asked for better service and they are friendly! They are there to Rob you. For Minor issues like patching the tire they charges $25.00per nails. If there are 4, then they rip up the customer by charging $100.00 on which we can get a brand new tire and install. They are only there to take your hard earned money. Stopped here for gas after lunch on the way to my Doctor's office in Herndon, VA. Pulled in, paid at the pump, and gassed up. Normally, most gas stations get a 4-5 star rating just for being convenient - unless they do something poorly - and Dan's Sunoco does. I used the Men's Restroom while I was gassing up - you have to ask for the key. When I went in - the restroom was in bad shape - dirty, and someone had spent considerable time in the restroom huffing on a cigarette a few minutes before I had entered - it was almost as if they were using a cigarette room freshener. C'mon guys - you can do a lot better on the restrooms - I've noticed a clear trend in recent years in service stations really modernizing these facilities and keeping them in good shape and well serviced. read more

All requests were fulfilled and check engine light causing issue was remedied within the day. The garage opens at 8:00am but the cashier is conveniently on site from 6:00am - 11:00pm for vehicle drop off. Just to confirm, this is a TOUCHLESS car wash. It was sorta unclear from previous reviews. I work down the street from here and recently went to Mr. Wash which is VERY close. My car had feather scratches from the bristles. I decided I can only do touchless car washes from now on...the snow this week has been really bad and the salt that comes with it is so destructive. My dark blue SUV looked white by the end of the week. I purchased the $12 RainX carwash and waited behind 9 cars to get into the car wash (snow car wash traffic). The front desk people were really friendly and told me the car washes take about 3 mins each. No problem. Took me about 30 mins in line but so worth it. The car wash did a great job at removing grit and salt but I took one start off for the dryers. Not awesome. I take towels in my car so I can try my car off immediately, especially during freezing temps like today. I will definitely be back!! PS remember to wash your towels frequently to prevent grit build up which causes scratches! read more

I've been taking my cars here for 3 years now, for everything and have never been disappointed. Their rates are very fair, no overcharging for parts and labor. They just fixed my wife's pathfinder, the ac/heater unit was not working properly and was not passing emmissions. 5 hours later, everything was fixed and the final bill was only $243. This is the closest gas station and business to my house, which is really too bad. This is not a sketchy neighborhood in the least, but I came around 10 pm once to find I couldn't run inside for a drink, but had to stand outside and talk to the employee through a glass window. I cannot say enough positive things about this auto body shop. Chris, the manager, is fantastic - personable, helpful, and quick to help. He also notices when someone may need help, even if they aren't directly asking for it. I once had a low tire sensor flash on when I was on my way to the airport and didn't have time for a flat tire. Chris came out to the tire air station (probably after noticing the panic on my face, ha ha) and had his guys look for a leak in my tires right then so that I wouldn't miss my flight. I have come here several times to have my car fixed, and each time I have felt like I was getting a fair price and estimate. I have always received "good, better, and best" estimate options so that I can choose what works best for my budget at the time. I also received what I felt was a shady and suspect repair estimate from another nearby garage, and I asked Chris to look into it. He not only said the initial estimate cost was bullshit (which I appreciate, given that the repair in question is a routine one and I would not anticipate it to be as high as it was), but he looked at the part and told me after that I did not need that particular repair at all. It is INCREDIBLY rare to find an auto body shop that doesn't try to upsell you on everything!!! They're also quick, and all the mechanic and register staff are really friendly as well. Dan's Merrifield Sunoco is top notch. I've dropped my car off there a few times for different things, and each time I'm happy. Today I had to drop my car off because my 'maintenance required' light was on. I thought it was probably just in need of an oil change, but as the car is getting a little older I figured it was better to take it to a garage I knew and trusted, just in case more work needed to be done. I dropped it off in the morning, spoke briefly to Chris (their Service Manager) and was told I'd be called in a few hours. Probably an hour later I got call from Chris letting me know they were going to start with an oil change and if more work was needed they would call again. He did call, about a half hour later, and told me that the oil was changed and my light was off, but did offer a few other things that I might need to get done, too. I asked if they could hold off for now until I had a chance to research what needed to be done. When I went to pick up my car Chris handed me my paperwork and then personally explained the different items that could be done, and also gave me some extra paperwork that explained it even further. I couldn't be more appreciative of him not pushing extra services on me, and going the extra mile to try to explain to me himself. I'll continue to go to Dan's Merrifield.
