I have always taken my car to the dealership because I thought I could trust them but they recently undermined their credibility by incorrectly telling me that I needed a new transmission for $8200. My friend always recommended Rosslyn Automotive so I decided to check them out. During this last awful visit to the dealership, they told me I needed a new car battery and that it was "in the red zone" so I better do it soon. I decided to bring it to Rosslyn Automotive to get it checked out. Not only did they not charge me to check the battery, but they were honest and told me I didn't need to change it until it takes a bit too long to start (probably when it gets colder). They also gave me a fair price (just parts plus $10 for labor) for when I do come back to get my battery changed. In short - I'm sold, I'm switching where I take my car to next time! read more

Ive used the business about 3x and had no issues. Today was the worst. I scheduled an AM drop off and received confirmation to drop off at 7:30 for an oil change, inspection of suspension & fluid levels. I canceled my AM personal training session & took the bus to work so that I could drop off car . I called the shop at 1:30 this afternoon asking how things were going and if car woukd be ready by end of day. Response. "Absolutely!" Day at office wraps up, I take bus to Merrifield & walk to shop. Arrive about 4:45. Shop closes at 6pm. I learn nothing had been done. I was told the owner didn't give the ticket to the mechanic. I was asked to give them 25 min to complete oil change. They had the car all day. I asked for my keys & told them I'd never return. AAA auto repair for me. At least there will be good customer service read more

We had been happy with their service for decades. Last week we dropped off our car and found them considerably busier than usual, and I was glad they had become more successful. Despite only needing a tire patched/plugged or replaced, they couldn't look at our car for two days and we mentioned possibly having the work done another time as we had plans for the weekend and following week. We were pleasantly surprised then, to get a call that they were done. We paid over the phone; they were to leave the car locked with the keys under the mat for us to pickup after hours with our second key (as we had done many times.) When we arrived Saturday afternoon, the car was nowhere to be found. We finally spotted it inside a closed work bay with one window rolled down and thought maybe there had been a mistake. Perhaps they thought it was another customer's car - even though this is a rather unique vehicle. Their policy, unless it has changed, was only to lock up cars that still required payment. We were also going out-of-town Monday morning and needed the car that weekend so we sent emails, called, & left a note in the dropbox - PLEASE - call us as soon as someone see this so we can get our car before our departure. There was no word over the weekend (which is ok, I get it - they were closed) but would not answer the phone until well after they opened. Mike said he was too busy to talk to me, took my name and said they would "check on it" and someone called me back over two hours later. I got to the phone just as it stopped ringing and called back immediately. It was not Mike, as usual - but someone who I believe said his name was Ahmed. When I explained that I had literally just missed a call only seconds earlier, he replied "Oh, you" and it seemed clear he was quite annoyed. He said they had left it out the night prior but when we never showed up they brought it back in. That's not even possible - if they had locked the keys in the car, they would never have had the keys to then take it back into the bay! I said, okay - I can accept that is your version of events that you think is accurate but that is not mine and now we had a problem with a drastic impact on our trip. (We needed to talk about what to do now but our options were limited because, before even calling back, they had gone ahead now and left it out with the keys locked inside!) It's concerning to me that despite many attempts to reach them (email, phone, physical notes slid in the door) we can't just briefly speak to someone but instead are still waiting until almost noon on Monday (when they opened at 7:30 AM). I get that they are busy but when someone has said this is important (multiple times!) one would think they could take a few minutes before doing anything else with the car. He was insistent I made a mistake and didn't come when I told them - if you do want to give them the benefit of the doubt on their understanding of events, why did they not call us and ask if they want it locked up for the weekend (assuming they could somehow retrieve a key from a locked car?) At this point he scoffed and then burst out in laughter while saying something to the extent of "yeah, right ma'am whatever you say" - although that could be off as it was hard to hear the exact words through his chuckles. If they simply had called us before they went and locked the keys in the car and then just said oops, sorry... and that would have been the end of it and we could have figured out a plan. Instead, knowing it was out there and that they shared they had had cars stolen from the lot overnight, we cut our trip short. Three days later we returned to find the receipt in the car and discovered they had also charged us considerably more than the amount we were told and done work we never even mentioned (transmission analysis, two inspections, etc.) The emissions inspection was particularly alarming; this car doesn't require emissions for registration so we never would have possibly asked for that to be done and they had done this once before (5 years earlier) and we had a long discussion about it then. I called and tried to talk to them and Ahmed (?) said he could not hear me. No one else has told me that with the same phone and my same location but I borrowed a phone from someone else and called back. This time Mike answered and proposed a solution: they add a note to the system that the car doesn't need emissions inspections so it doesn't happen a third time. That's not enough, in my opinion. They shouldn't be doing work they aren't asked to do and we shouldn't be paying for it so all this ended with me contacting my credit card company and initiating a charge back. Decades of feeling like they were family ending like this... so unfortunate! read more

I'm usually very hesitant about going to any auto repair/auto body shop. I needed an alignment because, well we live in NOVA and you know the roads. So I gave them a call and I guess they seemed confused why I needed one (more so questioning if I was sure I wanted one). I insisted because my wheel was really off. These guys are the best, always super busy and for good reason. I have a 2009 Audi on the decline and trying to keep alive without investing a fortune in repairs. Have been coming to this little shop on Lee Highway for a while and they have always taken great care of me, and I never felt like they took advantage of me in any way. This is my third car, my previous two ran over 200,000 miles each, so this isn't my first experience with a vehicle in need of service. As I know very little about car trouble diagnostics, I typically hate to take my vehicles in for service because in previous experiences, I've felt like I always walked out paying more than was necessary, but not here. My experience at Rosslyn Automotive has been nothing but fair and in some cases I've felt like I should be paying these guys more, which is a refreshing feeling knowing there are honest car repair shops out there. I had originally taken my car to another place to address my engine light concern. They charged me $400+ only to have the light reappear the next day. I demanded a refund and after numerous recommendations from my colleagues, I took my car to Rosslyn. They communicated with me every step of the way and never got frustrated when I called or asked questions. I brought my car into Rosslyn for four days (since I couldn't leave it overnight). They conducted numerous tests to determine the source of the engine light, but to no avail. Four days of time spent investigating the issue, and Mike (the owner) apologizes for MY time he felt he wasted and didn't charge me for any of the diagnostic testing!! He said, "We couldn't figure out the problem so why would I charge you?". I have never ever come across anyone with such integrity and professional courtesy before. My work truck needed steering and brake work after a component failed. My neighborhood mechanic told me that all components needed replacement for a quote of $3,000. Rosslyn Automotive inspected the vehicle and told me that only the steering gearbox needed replacement for a fee of $980. When I asked specifically about the break system they inspected it (and even pulled the wheels to check the pads and calipers) and told me the system was in perfect working order. Unfortunately this is not my local guy... I live some 40 miles away so my regular service and tires are done closer to home.... but I use this location for inspections because it is close to my work. While getting my car inspected I get the unique chance to observe how the managers and staff interact with other guests.... and I have been to this shop on 8 different occassions and never see anyone upset over an invoice or repair. Furthermore the manager is extremely personable and cheery even when they are busy... and that is a good thing. People are willing to wait for great service done with an honest appreciative smile. I am so grateful to have found Mike and his team! For years I took my car to the dealership because I had an extended warranty. I was so tired of getting subpar service, terrible recommendations, and being talked to like I was an idiot! The moment that warranty expired, I called Mike for some pricing on brakes. He was very helpful. I took the car in for the oil change and to have the brakes looked at and his guys told me I had a few more thousand miles of life on them before needing to be switched out. Earlier this week, I had to take my car back to the dealership for a recall. Upon picking it up, they had a laundry list of things that "needed to be done" per usual. Started coming here after moving to the area and the services have be phenomenal! Brought my Audi and my mom's BMW here several times and they are extremely knowledgeable even in foreign cars. Can't compliment the staff and technicians enough! Mr. Chung, Mike, Jon and Mo are the friendliest and always willing to accommodate you. My first time here was for a low minimum oil sign and Mr. Chung examined the vehicle then added oil within 30 mins. He told me the issue and suggested fixing it soon but did not pressure me like other shops. With these guys, they have fixed 2 huge issues regarding my engine and oil leak that no other place managed to repair. After bringing my car in, the problems have not re-emerged! Rosslyn Auto Body is a great family-owned shop that is friendly, treats you fairly, has reasonable prices, and finishes work quickly. I see why they're rated well. The guys working at the front of the shop are super friendly, cool, and honest. I had my brake pads, rotors, and tires changed, and both my emissions test and safety inspection done. Tire and brake changes were finished in a few hours time each (note: I went in on a snow day, lines/scheduling might be longer at other times given how popular they are). I failed the inspection the first time due to brake pads, but they offered me a range of options for replacing them instead of just suggesting the most costly option like some mechanics do. Took one of my vehicles here for a safety inspection and they ended up doing an emissions check. No biggie because I needed it anyway. Then, I had to bring another car in to check for damage possibly caused by squirrels near the engine compartment. They told me to go to a detailer instead. A detailer doesn't check for wear and tear possibly caused by squirrels. The mechanic came out to tell me that if something was wrong, a warning light would come on. He told me that's not the job of a mechanic to clean a nest from the engine compartment. Note, I never asked him to clean the nest, only to check for wear and tear as I had already removed the nest. The previous year, squirrels chewed several wires and no warning came on. Also, the safety inspector lost his license for 3 months as I was told by the staff. They are nice, but you have to be prepared for them looking for opportunities to not service you. I will not be visiting again. read more

My experience has been positive with this place. So many times, I will walk into an automotive shop and feel like I'm being taken for granted or talked down to because I'm a young woman. You walk in to a place to get new wiper blades and leave with $500 worth of maintenance required. I have found this place to consistently deliver great service. I shopped around for new brakes and most places told me i needed new Rotors on all 4 wheels. I did not believe the places I had been to, so I shopped around until I finally dropped in to Rosslyn Automotive and met with Chong. He told me me what needed to be done, and more importantly what really didn't need to be fixed. More importantly, he took his time and educated me on why certain things needed to be replaced. Ultimately we did replace two rotors, but he gave me a great deal. It cost me less to get those two rotors to replaced compared to what a few had quoted me on all four--and that is even with a good quality Rotor. I have gone back a couple of times since then. On one recent occasion the problem had not been fixed, but I took my car back and they fixed it with no additional cost. I can not necessarily vouch for the quality of all the mechanics there, but I can definitely say that Chong does a great job, and is the only mechanic I trust in the DC metro area. read more

This is my go to autoshop in the area for everything. The price here are very reasonable and they are not one of the autoshops that tells you 100 things that's wrong with your car and get you to spend money. When they find something wrong with my car, they bring me in and show me what's wrong and give me options to leave the car here and go home to research prices before committing to the place. I had to replace the shocks in my car. Being an Asian girl who doesn't know much about cars, they explained to me what's wrong and how it's affecting my car and how important it is for my change them. I called around and ask 3 other autoshops, they were by far the cheapest place. I also get my normal oil changes there. People are very friendly and the service is pretty fast.
