It's hard to beat sitting down for a meal surrounded by such beautiful scenery, and the staff were friendly and welcoming. As a vegetarian, I found the lunch options a bit limited. I ordered the Brussels sprouts and the ALTO vegan sandwich. Both were perfectly fine, but neither really stood out. The food was average overall, though I was grateful to have vegetarian options available while spending the day in the park. I did notice their dinner menu includes a roasted vegetable stew, which sounded more up my alley, but unfortunately I was there during lunch hours. Overall, come for the incredible views and convenient location while exploring the park. The food didn't wow me, but it served its purpose and the staff made for a pleasant experience.

Circa '31 stood out as they had burgers, salads, sandwiches and some main courses. When we decided to go there, our son-in-law looked up the directions and we were pleased to see it wasn't far from the Caverns and an easy drive. The restaurant is in the Mimslyn Inn and is easy to find it once inside. Since we were having an early dinner, there was only one couple in the place. Our server seated and greeted our party of six. We sat at a huge table that could accommodate twelve. She arranged things so we were seated at one end. She took our drink orders. We all had soft drinks. I was pleased to see that they had sweet iced tea. Along with our drinks, we were given a bread basket and some butter with chives in it. The bread was fresh and the butter added nice flavor. For my main course, I got "butternut squash ravioli and lobster". This was a great dish. It consists of: "Butternut squash and parmesan ravioli with sauteed lobster and asparagus in a tarragon cream sauce". The delicate flavor of the butternut squash came through clearly. While the parmesan barely registered, that was fine with me. The tarragon cream sauce had great flavor yet it didn't overpower the components of the dish. The lobster portion was generous. Three in our party got the "Country Ham BLT". It consists of: "Fried salt cured Virginia ham, fried green tomatoes, crisp lettuce, pimento cheese on grilled rye served with a pickle and seasoned waffle fries". Those who had this sandwich raved about its flavor and its uniqueness. More than once they said how much they liked it. Two got the "Mimslyn burger" which consists of: "6 oz. local Burners Farm ground beef burger, lettuce, tomato, thick sliced red onions on a toasted brioche roll served with a pickle and seasoned waffle fries". One could add cheese for no extra cost and had a choice of different cheeses. Two added American cheese to theirs while one chose no cheese. One decided he didn't want fries and the server told him he could substitute a veggie from the selection in stock. He chose collard greens as he never had them before and wanted to try them. Everybody liked their burgers and fries. The one who got the collard greens didn't like them. To me, they looked bland and my guess is that was why he didn't like them. We didn't have dessert even though the offerings were tempting. I had hoped to post more photos but one of our grandsons offered to take photos of the sandwich, burger and collard greens...but...they didn't come out. The dining room has that southern charm to it. Our server was very nice and since it was slow when we were there, she engaged us in conversation. If you are in Luray and looking for a good spot for dinner, we all highly recommend Circa '31.

It was delicious with some onions and what tasted like bacon fat on it. The kiddos got items from the kids' menu - a simple pasta and a small pizza. There was a special while we visited (Oktoberfest, I think) that had some fantastic German items, including a killer schnitzel with sour red cabbage and mashed potatoes. It was fantastic. I got a couple of the on-tap beers and enjoyed them much. There is a respectable cocktail menu (any of them can be made mocktail if you want). One thing I appreciated very much was how family-friendly the place is. Our waitress saw Child #3 starting to melt down and brought him over some toys to play with, commenting that she had kids of her own. Indeed, in the corner, there is a whole table full of toys for kids to play with. Even the bathroom has a full changing table setup, which is way better than those wall changing tables. The parking was adequate and was a short walk from the car to the front door, which was helpful since I was carrying my baby in her car seat. When we walked in, the restaurant was about half full of patrons eating their meals. The staff was buzzing about as well. While we were standing by the front door, still holding my baby in her car seat, a staff member made eye contact with us and said "that looks heavy! I'll be with you in just a moment." She never came back to seat us. A second staff member looked at us and proceeded to keep working. While we were waiting and watching the room, a customer approached her and asked for their bill because they had been waiting so long. The waitress frantically said yes, and then walked over to the bar to get drinks for a different table. The drink station was next to where we were still standing. The same staff member proceeded to complain to my husband and I about how hectic it was and how they couldn't keep up to the point where she started bad-mouthing her own team. (The restaurant was only half full). She then directed a younger staff member at the drink station to seat us. He never even looked our way. After 15 minutes of watching the chaos, my husband, baby, and I left and went to Blue's Dog Bowl instead - where the food and staff were outstanding! So I'm sorry that I couldn't write a more thorough review of Ollie Cat Cafe, but until their staff learn how to wait tables and operate efficiently, this restaurant is going to suffer.
