If you're planning to come during peak dinner hours, I'd definitely recommend making a reservation because it started filling up quickly. We had spent the day hiking, so we were dressed much more casually than many of the other diners. The restaurant has a more upscale feel, but no one made us feel out of place. The staff was welcoming, seated us immediately, and made us feel comfortable from the start. Our waitress was friendly and attentive, and the cocktails were well made. The food was the real highlight. The burgers were cooked perfectly, the beef tasted fresh and flavorful, and the garlic mashed potatoes were delicious. We also really enjoyed the soup of the day and the hummus of the day. The only thing that didn't completely wow us was the steak. It certainly wasn't bad but we just happen to be very particular when it comes to steak. Overall, this was an excellent meal with great service in a welcoming atmosphere. We came here while visiting Luray for our anniversary. I had read really good reviews and we were very much looking forward to steaks to celebrate the occasion. The Chop House literally feels like a house and we really enjoyed the vibe. We were seated on the second floor and were welcomed with a little congratulatory note at our table. It turned out that everyone else on the second floor was celebrating an anniversary as well! The server was very sweet and really set the standard for kindness and making us feel welcomed. For dinner we had the filet mignon and the sirloin steak both with mashed potatoes. They were excellent and in my opinion better than Morton's. Stopped in on a rainy afternoon to have a late lunch after exploring the caverns. Beth accommodated our request to sit out on the porch. She answered our many questions about the menu and made great recommendations based on our preferences. I had a delicious carrot soup followed by a wonderful chopped steak burger. Nestled in a cozy little area of town, in what appears to be an old home, it is truly a hidden gem of the state of Virginia. We were seated right away in a room at the top of the stairs at a cozy table for two. The decor is quietly gorgeous, subdued color yet bright and welcoming. After a couple minutes with the menu our delightful server came for drink and appetizer orders. We selected two of the bourbon cocktails and the crab dip then continued to peruse the menu for our entree selections. It was hard to choose from the delicious options but I landed on the catfish and hubby the filet. The drinks were divine sips, crafted expertly and the crab dip was delicately balanced with the crab, seasoning and cheese. The chips were warm and crispy which added great texture to the dip. Hubby's steak was cooked to temp perfectly and he said the mac and cheese was the best he'd ever had! I'm not sure how to describe how good the catfish was, dare I say clean and fresh! The coating was seasoned well and the fish was delicious, paired with asparagus and mashed potatoes, I was in comfort food heaven! NEVER GOING BACK. Had their tofu sandwich for lunch. It arrived absolutely burned -- the corners of the tofu were absolutely blacked and smelled burned -- and the wait person said that was the marinade used on the tofu! Yeah, right, black marinade on the corners only. I ate what I could of the thing, but it was awful. The kimchi totally soaked through the bottom of the bun so it all fell apart. The tofu, on the less burned areas, was tough and bland. It was cut into two triangles that overlapped, which makes no sense on a round bun. This was a total botch on the chef's part, and I also question why they have something so lousy on the menu -- a concession to vegetarians, I gather, since all the other sandwiches were burgers. read more

The woman greeting us was warm and friendly, the fireplace in the entry was beautifully decorated and warm, and our table was ready. Our server Cal was fun from the first moment we met. He described and explained the mocktails so well we immediately ordered some - the cosmo and the cider lemonade. So good! He gave us time to consider the menu options peacefully. We ordered: for me the small order of wings and a Cobb-like salad with blue cheese and farm egg and husband had a house burger with duck fat fries. Our server accidentally brought me the soup of the day, apologized and then said it was on the house if we wanted it. It was amazing. a bisque of potatoes, sriracha and lime crema that we shared. We felt lucky. The entrees we ordered were so well prepared and delicious. This was a meal that was worth every penny in every way - quality of food and personal, unrushed service. Our server started us off with fresh homemade focaccia, and my lord, it was delicious. So soft, airy, warm, and basically impossible not to keep reaching for. We all ordered the filet mignon, and every steak was cooked perfectly medium rare. Tender, seasoned beautifully, and genuinely melted in your mouth. You do get a choice of sauce, so we tried their house-made steak sauce. The steak honestly did not need a single thing, but the sauce was impressive too. Mild, a little sweet, a little smoky, and really well-balanced. My husband had the mashed potatoes and boldly claimed they were better than mine. I regretfully had to agree. My son and I had the goat cheese macaroni and cheese, and I am not exaggerating when I say it was the best mac and cheese I have ever eaten. We even asked for seconds to go, and I will absolutely be attempting a copycat version at home. We were too full for dessert, but I can promise you this meal did not disappoint. Great Find In Luray Went hiking with my family in Shenandoah National Park this weekend and overnighted in Luray. We happened across The Chop House by mistake and a lucky one it was! Everything about the meal was fantastic! Our server Pete was terrific. My brother-in-law hit the nail on the head when he said "He was the most unpretentious, informative and friendly server I've run across". Very polite and helpful, you could just tell it made Pete happy to be helpful. The menu is not large, but the dishes we ordered were all top notch. First the Focaccia Bread came and it was just right, a good sigh of things to come. Next the Crab Dip. We are from Annapolis, a crab crazy town on the Chesapeake, where every restaurant has their own "award winning" crab dip, so we are very well acquainted with some of the best, but this one knocked it out of the park. It would win the "Best of Annapolis 2026" if this restaurant was in Annapolis. Next came the Sirloin, at Pete's recommendation. Salted perfectly, and cooked correctly to medium rare, with a side of asparagus cooked to crisp perfection and seasoned with a garlic butter that was just fantastic. We rapped it up with a flight of deserts to share, at Pete's recommendation. Deconstructed Cheese Cake, German Chocolate Cake, Creme Brûlée, and three of their house made ice creams. Again, just Wow. And when the bill came, again a very pleasant surprise. Steak dinner for 4, with cocktails and wine and the bill came to $250. Back in Annapolis that meal would have easily been $400 or more at Lunes Steakhouse, Ruth Chris or the Chart House. My wife and I agreed this meal was better than any we've had at any of these high end resturants. I can't recommend this place highly enough. We'll be back, and nothing against the other servers, but we'll make sure it's on a night Pete is working. Great job Pete and to everyone in the kitchen, just a terrific meal. We loved the foccacia bread to start and honestly, from there the night just stayed "very good". we ha 4 cocktails between us, the Old Fashioned, Farmer's Daughter, Broadened Horizons and Rye & Reason. All were amazing. We got the Crab Cake and the Pork Belly Bites to start and the latter was amazing, perfectly crispy and well flavored too. The crab cake was good too. I really like my sirloin too, and I liked the ability to change sauce with it too. I'll do that, and maybe even try the filet if we come back. My partner really liked the curry spice in her chickpea etc. veggie burger. The duck fat freis wiht mine were nice. Honestly, we were most blown away that all of that was just over $100.
