I cannot express how thankful I am for Tam and her assistant for doing such a wonderful job on not only my hair and make up, but my mom, mother-in-law, and all my bridesmaids. She's extremely responsive through email, was able to accommodate when I needed to change the date of my make up trial, and arrived bright and early with her assistant on the big day. For my bridesmaids and moms, she made them look naturally flawless! One exception is my mother who loves to be glammed up and Tam was able to look like she was ready to perform for Paris by Night! For me, I normally go pretty heavy with my eyeliner already, but she was able to elevate my every day look with the air brushed foundation, false lashes, and my preferred eyeshadow colors and lipstick so that they complemented my skin tone and face shape. During the whole process, she'll check in with you to see if you like how you look so far, and is so patient and kind when you mention any preferred changes. For example, I have a wonky eye where my eyelid is bigger on one side than the other, and she was able to adjust the make up to even them out! I also have a round face when I smile, but she was able to help me create the illusion of such sharp bone structure that I swear it could cut paper. Lastly, I have long, but thin hair and she was able to add a ton of volume to my hair without any extensions while also covering up parts of my hair that were thinner. In the end, I felt like a movie star with every detail accounted for. The quality of her work can be seen from the fact that everything stayed put all the way until the last dance song of the night. Dantam was wonderful to work with for my special occasion photoshoot. She is extremely communicative throughout the booking and coordination process, and very fair when it comes to pricing. She also was very kind about a last-minute location switch when I ran into unexpected logistical issues. On the day of my event, I showed her what I was going for (South Asian-style, monochromatic makeup and a low textured bun) and she nailed it perfectly. Professionalism - 5/5 Skill - 5/5 Responsiveness - 5/5 Hair - 4/5 Makeup - 7/5 Flexibility - 5/5 Dantam came to me as a personal referral from my previous hair & makeup artist who accidentally double-booked my wedding date with another bride! Fortunately, this incident happened not too last-minute. Dantam was available for my date, and she was very quick to correspond which was much appreciated considering all other things I was juggling during the wedding planning process. While I was able to have a bridal makeup trial with my original artist, I did not actually schedule this with Dantam. And Dantam did not offer it as my initial plan was to show her the photo shoot that showcased the previous trial look. This much was satisfying to me as I had seen what she has done on her website, and I felt she was more than capable to reproduce that look. As we approached our date, she requested a picture of me to get an idea of expectations. On the big day, Dantam's assistant arrived right on schedule to take care of hair and makeup for my 2 bridesmaids and makeup for the mothers. Dantam also arrived as scheduled for me a little bit later which helped to keep the makeup fresh for the event and to allow the photographer and videographers to catch the getting-ready photos. I did what was perhaps the unthinkable on the big wedding day (haha...), which was to completely veer away from the previous look I pursued in the past. Instead of a shimmery eyeshadow with pink tones and smaller eyelashes, I showed Dantam a picture I had found on Pinterest which was of a dramatic matte dark smokey finish. Dantam also insisted that I pick the bigger doll-like eyelashes to complete the look. It was not at all what I sought after in the past. LOL She finished the look with air-brushed foundation which was a very glamorous feeling for me! Similarly, I showed Dantam another Pinterest photo of the kind of hairstyle I wanted which featured the trendy and curly boho-style half-up/half-down featuring a poof in the back. I handed Dantam a rose gold diamond vine-like headpiece to adorn the back. Throughout the process, much chaos ensued because the florist actually left all the florals at my house where I got ready, and they were scrambling to bring them to the wedding site. The photographer and videographer were vying for my attention. Dantam would have to politely discourage them from distracting me at times and later offered moments to involve them in her care while she finished me off. The Flower Girl was also present who lingered around and eventually the mother paid for last minute hair service on the spot! Throughout all of this, Dantam was unmoved and remained calm and I believe she helped transfer that energy to me as the bride. The final look was exactly what I wanted, and I am thoroughly pleased with Dantam's service. Really, I give Dantam Beauty 5 out of 5 stars, but I noted above 4/5 for hair service. This is because the Maid of Honor had curly hair uncharacteristic of Asian culture and my bridesmaid had a particular hair style. Both reported that the assistant struggled with these curveballs. Honestly, their looks as well as mothers' and Flower Girl's looked beautiful as well! I was personally happy with all of the service, but it is something worth mentioning I guess. I initially chose Dan Tam to do a trial with with the intention of hiring her for my wedding. I had told her that I was using the trial makeup for my engagement shoot after in order to not waste that money or makeup. She subsequently told me that if I was going to use it for my engagement shoot, that the price would be higher. This feels weird to me - if I'm paying for a trial, then shouldn't the exact products and look that I would have on my wedding day be trialed on me? Why do I have to pay more for extra staying power etc? The trial is already much more expensive than her regular makeup services, so the products used should be reflective of that. I had to cancel my first trial with a few days notice unfortunately due to my photographer having a family emergency. We rescheduled for a month later and Dan Tam was really flexible about it which I really appreciated. Unfortunately, the morning of my rescheduled trial, my fiancee woke up and tested positive for COVID (with me testing positive the next day). I hung up on my fiancee as he was in the middle of telling me so that I could call Dan Tam and let her know ASAP. I felt like there was a lack of empathy and understanding. Instead, she was upset and questioned me on when I learned he was sick. After I said I learned 1 min ago, she told me I should have told her sooner since she was already at her studio. Not sure how she expected me to go back in time and tell her sooner since I'd only just learned myself. I apologized to her for the last minute change and even wrote a follow up email apologizing. I ended up not choosing her to do my wedding makeup due to her response to the COVID situation. It was something I had no control over and I did my best to notify her as soon as possible. I can understand two cancellations being frustrating - as the bride I'm the most frustrated about having to reschedule all of these things. However, on the wedding day where it's chaotic and something is bound to go wrong, I need someone with a positive can-do attitude who will adapt to any problems that come their way and not cause me more stress. I didn't feel that Dan Tam would be able to fulfill that and thus we parted ways with her keeping my deposit for her troubles, which is fine. read more
