I booked a makeup and personal color analysis color with Kelly and I loved it! The class was supposed to be 3.5 hours long but I was there for 4 hours and 40 mins as I had so many questions. Kelly was super patient and knowledgeable with all of my questions and she taught me everything I needed to know about makeup. I emailed Kelly with a list of questions and she took the time to call me and answer and clarify all of my questions, which I appreciated. I'll be honest and say my first impression wasn't really great. When I first met her, I was very intimidated as she didn't seem as friendly as other people whom I've worked with in the beauty service industry. I really had to try and initiate conversations which I was able to do because I'm an extroverted person. HIGHLY, highly recommend. Quick summary: I asked for more natural face makeup but glam eyes, a little different from a lot of the softer looks I saw on her feed. Kelly did a phenomenal job, and I was was so in love with the resulting look on the day of my wedding. Kelly is professional, kind, thoughtful, detail oriented, friendly, reliable, and very knowledgable (particularly on different skin types as well as Asian makeup, but honestly I feel like she can do any makeup). Both my mom and I got our HMU done and she made us feel so beautiful! Detailed version: I was specifically on the hunt for someone who understood how to work with sensitive skin (I have pretty severe eczema at times, though I was managing it prior to my wedding). Kelly had knowledge about this that other HMUAs I talked to didn't have. She knew what my skin needed -- not *more* makeup, which oddly enough only accentuated the texture, but focused skin prep. I also needed someone who understood Asian monolid makeup and had a good handle on different styles, given that I wanted natural face but glam eyes. At the time, I saw a couple examples of glam on her feed but wanted more of a gauge, so I scheduled a trial before booking her. The trial was super helpful and well done. First, she has a questionnaire that goes through a lot of your preferences at the get-go so that she's prepared, which I found very professional and a nice touch. Second, I was able to share with her more details around my vision on the spot, and we talked through different looks, colors, etc. It wasn't 100% there during the trial but that's exactly what trials are for! I booked her right away afterwards and also got a lash lift from her later. The other critical component for me was that I would be surprising my husband with an aerial dance performance at the wedding, which required I invert upside down. Therefore, I needed hair that would stay in place. After my trial run, I stress tested the hair and it fell down immediately, so I reported this back to Kelly and we communicated a lot about solutions and improvements to make. I really appreciated that. On the day of the event, she did SUCH an incredible job with the changes. My hair and makeup didn't budge at ALL. Even the heavier tiara stayed on! It was amazing. I had hired her to come an extra hour during the event in anticipation for things coming undone, but she made everything so secure in the beginning that it wasn't even necessary (though I definitely appreciated the opportunity to get touched up!). Kelly worked her magic and made me look great on my wedding day - even though I wasn't able to sleep at all the night before! My wedding was outdoors at Yosemite, and the hair and makeup stayed on until late at night. Kelly tailored my look to match the outdoor setting and my simple wedding dress. I don't wear much makeup but knew I needed a professional makeup artist for my wedding day. If I was going to spend money on a photographer then I needed to look good for the photos. I chose Soyi Makeup after seeing the incredible "Before & After" gallery on the website and the section specific to "Asian Brides". I appreciate that the lead artist, Kelly, responded to my emails promptly and had clear information about her levels of service and their pricing. I liked that she also has experience working with Vietnamese brides and the Vietnamese hat that's customary for ceremonies. I scheduled a makeup trial with Kelly because I wanted decide on my wedding look beforehand. I felt at ease with Kelly because of her calm demeanor and because of the care she took to address my pre-wedding concerns. I love that she also is a hair stylist. I was getting two wedding stylists wrapped in one! I wanted to look natural but still stand out for my special day. And that's exactly what she did. Kelly accommodated my wife-to-be's request for quicker makeup and hair styling since she too wasn't use to wearing makeup and didn't want to sit for a long time. Kelly easily worked with our two different skin tones: Asian and Caucasian. A second Soyi makeup artist, Nadia, worked on the wedding officiant and my mom. All of the work was done at our home. I was impressed that they both worked calmly amidst the chaos of family and friends making frantic final preparations for the wedding. After all of the makeup and hair was finished Kelly gave us wedding well wishes and a small bag of makeup accoutrements for touch ups. The extra bit of lipstick would come in handy later on.
