I can't even begin to describe how amazing and meticulous Diana is! This was my fourth time going to Diana for balayage (more like "foilyage," a hybrid technique between balayage and highlights to get a lighter color.) It always comes out so gorgeous and natural. She was the first person to ever color my hair. I used to be nervous that it would look fake or "ruin" my natural highlights. Instead it's like an enhanced version of the perfect dream hair I imagine myself having. I typically go once a year to brighten up before summer. Even as it grows out, it looks super natural and doesn't need a touch-up. This time I hadn't had a hair appointment in over a year! You can see the uneven self-haircut in the "before" photo. I decided to have her do both the haircut and color. She did an incredible job with the cut -- exactly what I wanted. I couldn't be happier with my new, fresh colored cut! Diana is fantastic, knowledgeable and excellent at putting new clients at ease! Honestly just check out the photos to see exactly how much magic she can work! I came to Diana knowing that I wanted to thin out my hair and refresh my color for spring, but not really knowing the exact color I wanted or whether I wanted to chop my hair back into a short bob or keep it long-ish still. I've been seeing Diana for a little over a year now. And my hair looks amazing, thanks to her! Diana is very patient and makes sure that I am happy with my hair every visit! She has cut, colored and highlighted my hair. And every time I see her, I feel confident that I will be leaving her salon feeling happy! I love how she blow dries and styles my hair as well! She makes it look so easy to do, but it takes me close to 2 hours to do what she does in 30 min! She's also decorated her little salon soo pretty with green plants and I love that. Her space is always very clean and organized. And she makes sure of that! I recently saw her after not seeing her since January, bc of the Shutdown. So, I haven't dyed my hair or gotten a haircut since last Christmas, it was past my shoulders and the "purple" (or pretty much blurple that didn't show up a few months later)I was faded.. I heard great experiences and seen beautiful hair done by Diana, so you should know how excited I am to finally get my hair done before a big event this weekend! Going in, the studio is very clean, bright, and lovely. You can already tell Diana has your best interest in mind when it comes to what you want. What I absolutely loved that I unfortunately don't get anywhere else is that, she actually explains why a certain hair color you're debating on getting may not be the best long-term. I usually get "No, that doesn't look good" from others, but they never explain why. I trust her with my hair and I'm totally happy with the way the purple came out! I'm writing an update because of the ridiculously subpar service I received. Diana called me the morning after my cancellation & Yelp review to go over it and I told her that I didn't feel comfortable committing to the appointment without seeing pictures of her work and feeling as though she understood what I wanted. She told me she would be more than happy to send me pictures to my email of her previous work. I hadn't received anything that evening so I called the salon and asked for Diana. After asking for my name, the girl who picked up told me Diana was now "busy" and would contact me later. The next day, Diana responded to my email telling me with a lengthy description of the-hair-that-could-have-been and that she changed her mind, saying she felt "it would be best if we parted ways." No apology, no headsup before my call to let me know she changed her mind, just a huge essay on her self-confidence and self-proclaimed skills and how I was missing out on great hair. I wasn't looking for a refund. I wasn't looking for a free handout. I was looking for reassurance and previous work and a hair color that looked like it actually changed. Sorry you felt like the customer was wrong. It's a shame because the salon is close-by and has wonderful reviews and now I feel as though I can't step in there because Diana's policy seems to be the stylist - not the customer - is always right. I LOVE Diana!!!! I have NEVER received a better haircut from anyone, which is why I followed her from 2 other salons and get my haircut from her whenever I am back in the area. Ever since I can remember getting haircuts, I was never really impressed by anything I received, I just sort of "lived" with them... until I met Diana. I remember thinking the first time I got my haircut by her, I just LOVED it. I had to get a desperately needed cut down in LA and didn't have time to come back up north and even the lady cutting my hair in that salon complimented how well the layers were cut from before. Go Diana! :) Not only does Diana have a vast amount of knowledge of styling and cutting hair, but she is a tremendously talented make-up artist as well. She is meticulous and precise about every strand she touches, and won't let you get up until you are satisfied. I've never had anyone spend 15 minutes blow drying my hair (I have a lot of hair) and THEN go through and spend another 15 minutes cutting all the dry hair. She also cuts the best bangs. I do not let ANYONE else touch my bangs. The other thing is, you know how every time you leave the salon, your hair looks amazing and then it NEVER looks like that again after you shower? Well, Diana will definitely have you leaving the salon looking and feeling amazing, but she is also willing to explain everything she is using on your hair, what size brushes, products, where to buy them, etc. So yes, ladies, you CAN re-create the look. Just ask Diana how to do it! Even if you can't re-create it exactly (or you don't have the time to), if you just explain to Diana that you're low-maintenance (as I am), then I bet you will find that a little blow-dry after your shower will STILL leave your hair looking fabulous (thanks to Diana)! All in all, Diana does everything with a lot of confidence, which also makes me feel great because I can literally just sit there and let her do her thing, and I know the end-product will look amazing w/o even needing to look up. Maybe I didn't want my secret to get out :) Diana has been cutting my hair for nearly 10 years now and I have followed her throughout the Peninsula wherever she goes. Can we talk about postpartum hair? Why? Because no one really talks about your hair falling out after baby is born. No one talks about the amount of hair falling out and from where on your head! But here I was 2 years ago after having the most luxuriating hair experience during my pregnancy to having a receding hairline (and unbeknownst to me a receding hairline on the back of my head!) to having the strangest hair regrowth! I'm a total fan of Diana. I have been literally following her around since I discovered how great she was at Julian Chase. Then she went to Salon Vie and now she's at Monica Foster. I was joking with her that maybe she will eventually work in San Jose and shorten my commute to see her! That's right, I drive up to Palo Alto just to see this talented stylist. I am a low maintenance type of gal and just need hair that I can control easily but I also don't want to look like a mop ... Diana understands this and does a meticulous job. I have been to other stylists and no one compares. She will first give you a wet cut and then blow dry nicely to see how it looks and then cut your hair again to ensure it looks beautiful. I am on a budget being a mom and all so I can't get regular haircuts like I would like (sniff, sniff) but here's another awesome thing about diana's haircuts - at least the ones she has given me - the hair grows out very nicely!!! so even if i don't have the time nor resources to come see her right away, i still look pretty good with a longer hairdo. how's that for "bang for your buck?" read more

Based on other reviews, it seems that Diana is a great hair stylist. However, I haven't had the pleasure of meeting or speaking with her. I've tried to schedule a makeup & hair appointment for a last minute engagement photo session on numerous occasions but to no avail. I called the salon where she works three times. First time, she wasn't there and they suggested calling back the next day. The second time, I left a message for her at the salon but did not receive a call back. The following day (third time) the receptionist provided Diana's personal email address. So I sent her an email. Luckily, Diana responded right away and let me know that she was unavailable. To be honest, I'm disappointed that she was unavailable on the date that I requested because I have heard really great things about her work. But the ratings for this review is based on the fact that it took me several tries to get in touch with her. What's the point of offering contact information on your website if you can't actually get in touch with the person? Second star is for the quick email response. read more
