I was in Charlotte for a business meeting and decided to stop by The Batch House to sample a few pastries and bring something home to my wife. From the outside, it is an adorable spot with a beautiful, inviting building. Unfortunately, the remarkably unfriendly welcome I received inside immediately crushed my enthusiasm and made me regret walking in. I very nearly turned around and left. I can't say whether the staff was simply having a bad day, whether I didn't look like their usual clientele, or whether something else was going on. Whatever the reason, the interaction tainted my visit from the start. I purchased a Funfetti cupcake, a chocolate chip cookie, a snickerdoodle cookie, and a Key lime pie bar. The chocolate chip cookie was merely okay. Personally, I think a standard Nestlé Toll House cookie made at home would have been better. The snickerdoodle, on the other hand, was outstanding and easily the highlight of everything I tried. The Key lime pie bar had a wonderfully creamy texture and a lovely graham cracker base, but it contained barely any Key lime flavor. There was no citrus punch or brightness--just a smooth, creamy custard on top of graham cracker. The cupcake and frosting both had excellent flavor, but the cake itself was far too crumbly. A little more moisture and structure would have made it much more enjoyable and prevented it from falling apart. Overall, the baked goods were a mixed bag but showed some real potential. Unfortunately, I probably won't return. Even good pastries have a difficult time overcoming an experience with staff who make you feel unwelcome, and I don't particularly enjoy spending money somewhere that leaves me feeling that way. This is such a cute bakery and it smells so nice inside. I read a lot of reviews and people raved about the oatmeal cream pie so I decided to order one for my evening sweet treat. Was I supposed to eat it immediately? When I went to enjoy it after dinner that evening it was hard as a rock and I was worried I would break my teeth biting into it. I ended up separating the two cookies and microwaving one of the oatmeal cookies for 20 seconds. It was still very hard to bite into but I did taste it and it was overly sweet. Sweet, sweet, sweet and I have a sweet tooth. Finally managed to get to The Batchmaker after years of dying to try. It wasn't necessarily my cup of tea given the level of sweet each seemed dessert seemed to have. Everyone has different tastes. S'mores brownie which they are known. The burnt marshmallow had a bit of smokiness and was for me the perfect amount of burnt. From there, it felt like the marshmallow could be eaten separate from the brownie. I did eat the majority together to have the whole bite. The brownie itself felt like an ordinary brownie. It didn't blow me away. Puddle cookie with caramel - the caramel was like a layer of burnt sugar vs buttery caramel. The puddle cookie itself was okay w/the chocolate chunks. The caramel toffee brownie again given the caramel super sweet and the brownie is a solid offering. The cinnamon bun was not as cinnamony as one would expect given how it looked and it was really light on the cream cheese frosting. Really solid offering and would recommend to those who like their sweets sweet. read more

First of all... How freaking cute is this bakery! We noticed the bakery and decided to give it a try, and I'm so happy we did! Honestly, everything looked so good and I was totally over stimulated, but the cashier was really nice and let us know what some of the fan favorites were, which helped us narrow down our options! I ordered the smores brownie for my son, he scarfed it down and said it was delicious! I ordered the chocolate chunk cookie, and boy was it scrumptious! One of my favorite places for a sweet treat in Charlotte!! The Batchmaker is so good, I've never had something I didnt like here. The cookies are all delicious especially the Oreo truffle or chocolate puddles. I love their cinnamon rolls (and various flavors of them). Their cakes are amazing too. Menu items are constantly changing so you can always try something new. The shop is also really cute and great to bring the kids, there's a small play area inside and a huge courtyard out front. What a gem of a bakery in Charlotte! I have been impressed by every baked good I've tried here. The millionaire cookie might just be the best cookie I've ever eaten. If you crave sweet and salty treats, this cookie is for you. The s'mores brownie was another highlight - decadent, chocolatey, and perfectly fudgy. It's the perfect brownie! The oatmeal cream pie was also life-changing (and definitely large enough to share). Honestly, you can't go wrong with any of the treats at The Batchmaker - every treat is baked to perfection. The interior is super cute and I adored the Golden Girls-themed bathroom (!). There is also a nice outdoor space with plentiful seating to enjoy your baked goods. When I visited, they only offered black coffee. It would have been nice to have an option for milk, but the coffee was solid. (There's also a coffee shop across the street.) The staff member who helped me on my recent visit wasn't super friendly, which differed significantly from my first visit. Cutest bakery in Charlotte! I have been wanting to try this for so long but I'm never in the area during the open hours. I finally decided to make a trip over and it was so good! The place is super cute. I love all the floral and pink decor. I got there half an hour before they closed on a Sunday, and they still had a lot of desserts left. I picked a few different pastries to share with my family. My favorite was the cookie butter cookie. I loved the soft texture and it was loaded with cookie butter! The chocolate puddle cookie was also amazing! It tasted like cookie dough. The oatmeal crème pie was the perfect texture and I loved the marshmallow crème filling. We used The Batchmaker for my wedding and it was a HIT! We did a variety of minis - oatmeal creme pies, s'mores brownies, mixed berry pop tarts, and lemon bars along with a small wedding cake for just the groom and I which was the caramel apple cake decorated in a mild vintage fashion. First of all, for being "mini" the pieces were very substantial, especially when compared to the catering mini desserts options we looked at. These were probably twice the size if not more! Secondly, everything was delicious!!! I think the oatmeal creme pies were the biggest hit, but I personally could eat 1000 of the s'mores brownies! Also the cake was top notch. So moist, really delicious caramel apple flavor and the decorations were exactly what I had pictured in my head. Communication with the owner was friendly and she responded quickly. In hindsight, I should've ordered a small because the cake was massive. The cake looked beautiful and I hate to say it, but I thought it tasted just fine. It didn't taste any better than a cake I could've bought at the grocery store, and for the price, I expected something more spectacular. When I picked up the cake, I bought a few pastries from the case: puddle cookie, Elvis cookie, s'more brownie, and Girl Scout cupcake. The brownie was a decadent treat but again, nothing blew me away. Everything looked good but what stood out to me wasn't the flavor but rather the over-the-top sweetness. I have 3 words for you: oatmeal cream pie. I don't even like oatmeal cream pies... that is never something I would pick. But after how many people talked it up to me, I knew I had to get it. All I gotta say is... wow. My only complaint is that I wish they had more true "breakfast" pastries since they are only opened morning and early afternoon. (For example, they had Oreo peanut butter banana bread.... I'm sure it was delicious, but that's a lot going on for 10 am on a Saturday). BUT, still so worth it to go and get a box of goodies to eat throughout the weekend. I've also tried their funfetti pre-order cake, and once again...
