[[HIGHLIGHT]]Darband Restaurant is a slice of community in downtown San Diego where the staff and the frequent customers greet one another like family.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] Head over for a good plate of Persian food and steaming cups of tea. I walked in on an evening where several groups of people had come together to socialize over heaping plates of food and many cups of tea. [[HIGHLIGHT]]The restaurant was polished and refined, the people were amicable, and I felt like I was taking a seat in someone's home.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] The staff was great in helping me figure out what I was in the mood for, and I ordered a koobideh kabob. While I waited for my food to arrive, I watched other patrons get up and help themselves to cups to tea at the tea station. When in Rome, do as the Romans do, they say. I got myself a cup of tea while I waited. It felt like hospitality! My koobideh kabob arrived, served with a generous helping of basmati rice. The koobideh kabob was delicious. The ground beef skewers were seasoned, well-done, and juicy. The charbroiled tomato and pepper were delicious and tender. I enjoyed the fluffy basmati rice which was accented by the delicate, floral notes of the saffron spice. On the side, I dipped the bread in the maust o khiar, the cool cucumber mint yogurt. And the tea was strong and bold. This dinner was very filling, and I was happy to stay awhile and enjoy my meal. I'll certainly stop by Darband when I'm in town again.

Super generous portions. Everything is well seasoned and authentically Persian. [[HIGHLIGHT]]Beautifully appointed restaurant.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] Attentive staff. Broad and inspired menu. Extended hours of operation. Definitely worth checking out.

Stumbled upon this Persian restaurant in San Diego . Service and food were quite good. Chicken and beef were especially tender and great flavor . Highly recommend

Food is 10/10 Tea is 7/10 The restaurant food is very god but surprisingly it's very empty. The ambience is not so lively and they can add some more music and make it warmer. Overall, because their food is good I recommend it. It's good for meetings with groups and friends.

Visited Darband with a group of 5 friends. It wasn't crowded, so getting a table was pretty smooth. We ordered a few appetizers which were very yummy. I ordered the boneless chicken kebab and it was pretty good. Not dry and seasoned well. They do give you alot of rice with each dish. They do not sell alcohol but have options of canned/bottled soda and carbonated waters. The only complaint I have was it did take time to track down our server, even though it wasn't crowded. It took a while to have someone check on us and take away dirty dishes which was kinda annoying.

Below average food, very poor service. Afghan, not Persian. Kitchen staff argued with servers in Dari (Afghani) constantly.

In San Diego, not offering tap water that is certainly drinkable is a disappointment, and charging $2 per bottle seems excessive when it certainly costs less to obtain. We opted for soft drinks ($4 each) and they were fine, except the Diet Coke was flat. The grilled meats (chicken kabob and chelo kabob barg) were clearly fresh and deliciously moist. The entrees took a bit to arrive but were clearly house-made. The fesenjoon stew had good flavors but was a bit too sweet. The tahdig was incredibly crispy, too thick to even cut with a knife. The kashkeh bademjan appetizer was good but nothing outstanding. Overall, the food is tasty, though the tahdig with fesenjoon could use a few tweaks. The prices were a bit high and dinner left more to be desired, but I am not opposed to coming back.

Between my coworker and I, we got the Cucumber Dip, Falafel appetizer, Ash Reshteh Vegetable Soup and the Beef and Chicken Kabob Combo. I really enjoyed the Ash Reshteh soup. I have never had it before, but it was packed full of unique flavor that I could've eaten more than a cup of. The falafels were really good, but I was a bit disappointed by the hummus it came with since it was very bland to me. The cucumber dip was not the best for either my coworker or I. It honestly almost tasted like plain yogurt. The kabob combo would've been amazing if the meat wasn't so dry. That's the only complaint about it, but the flavor was really good. Could've just been a fluke. This place serves very authentic food with large portions, high quality ingredients and loads of flavor!

I ordered the beef soltani with zereshk polo for $38.36, tahdig with gheymeh for $15.60, and a small side of shallot dip for $2.08. The DoorDash menu is misleading. They should really indicate the portion sizes in ounces. The "small" was more like a sample size, about the size of a condiment container and maybe two bites at most. The flavor was not even good, so I am glad I did not order a larger portion. Overall, the food was very average. Nothing really stood out to me. Since I did order on DoorDash, I will say it was packaged nicely, however they did not provide utensils or sumac.

The portion size was generous, the saffron rice was a nice touch, and overall the food felt rooted in tradition rather than toned down. Where things fell apart was the pickup experience. I drove about 20 minutes and still ended up waiting around 30 more minutes inside before my order was ready. The bigger issue was not just the delay, but how poorly it was handled. The front of house seemed overwhelmed, communication was minimal, and there was little acknowledgment of the inconvenience. So for me, Sadaf is a place where the kitchen clearly outshines the service. The food was good enough that I would order again, but the pickup process needs serious improvement.
