Everything was perfect. 4 years later tat healed up great. I still love it. Rightfully so, for my next tat I booked with Noah again to get tattoos with my sisters. We aren't usually together and we went through really tough times so this experience was something we've been looking forward to for years. Book w/ Noah, everything is great. Confirm my reservation with him, digitally, with the shop etc. I even get a reminder the day of early in the morning. We get there on time. They tell me Noah Is in the middle of a session and will need 30 more minutes. I didn't get a heads up so to hear this as I'm on time is really frustrating. I say okay Cori, shit happens. My sisters and I are getting bullshit meme tats so I figure it's not that big of a deal, we'll still be okay to wait. Noah was very clear that he would be able to do all 3 of us within the hour. I'ma bit worried now because we have other plans after this. Another artist offered to do mine as we continued waiting 30+ minutes. Cool. I go. He did great, and I appreciated his willingness. As he's wrapping up, I ask if he will do my sisters too? Because the whole point was to experience and do this TOGETHER. Understandably, he can't because he has another tattoo to work on. It's now been 1.5 hours waiting. At this point Noah hasn't even said a word to us. And now I have to go. Leaving my sisters behind to hope they get seen asap. This review is about the lack of structure more than anything, because this shop does have very talented artist. I'm disappointed honestly because it ruined our experience. I don't know if it's because of what our tattoo were that our business wasn't prioritized or taken seriously or what. Daredevil Tattoo has long been a place I've wanted to visit, and it was weird for my first time to occur during COVID. I've found flash tattoos and events to be a great way to get exposed to different artists and shops, and Daredevil always looked like an amazing place, especially when they posted the excitement around Friday the 13th. I was fortunate to take part in their Friday the 13th event this November - which as stated - was in the midst of a pandemic. They still carried on this tradition, but with a number of precautions to keep everyone safe. A very limited amount of people were allowed in, and everyone was masked up. I received a really fun reaper with a dagger from Noah. He was the sole artist for the flash tattoos and he was giving it his all. I'm really happy with how it came out and was impressed with the studio! I'll definitely be back and want to spend more time there to take in the historic/museum aspects of the space. read more

Daredevil is a clean, classic shop with a good atmosphere. If you're getting your first tattoo, you might be worried because sometimes old school shops can have a bit of an attitude, but I watched another guest there who was a walk-in for her first piece and everyone was friendly and considerate. Personally, this was my ninth piece but my first time at Daredevil, as I'm relatively new to the NYC area and previously got my work done in Boston. My artist, Pete, was a true gentleman and consummate professional! My tattoo came out beautifully because of his skill and that he was a pleasure to work with. The $200 rate per hour is to be expected for the quality of work you get. There is an ATM around the corner, but you're probably better off hitting up your own bank beforehand. Also, as a bonus, check out the tattoo history museum! A lot of awesome historical flash, old tattoo guns, photos and interviews that represent the vivid history of NYC tattooing. I've been thinking about getting a tattoo for about 5 years now. I'd watched plenty of episodes of Miami Ink (heh), so I felt like I understood the process and needed to do research and come prepared if I wanted the experience to be smooth. After researching the top shops in NYC and lurking through the Instagram feeds of numerous artists, I decided on Daredevil as the shop and Pete Chile as the artist I wanted to do it. Booking was as simple as dropping by the shop and putting down a $40 deposit. Pete happened to be in the shop at the time so we scheduled everything right on the spot. I actually had to reschedule a couple times, and Pete couldn't have been more accommodating. Everyone I dealt with in the shop right down to the guys working the desk were super friendly and Pete was an exceedingly chill and professional guy to work with. I emailed in the design I wanted and at my appointment, Pete got it stenciled and placed perfectly. After that, it was off to the races. Being that this was my first tattoo, I didn't know how it was going to feel. I heard the calf might be one of the less painful places, but Pete told me otherwise. Even so, he was gentle and thorough. In fact, I got into a conversation with another artist while Pete was going to work and forgot what was even happening. All in all, I'm super happy with the results. After 3 previous tattoos all with the same artist- I thought it was time for a change. My previous guy specialized in lettering, but wasn't great with super thin lines, so I searched for someone new. I was reccommended Daredevil Tattoo by a friend who had had some awesome line work done in the past. I emailed the shop- tell thing them what i was looking for and asking which of the artists would be the best fit. Within 12 hours I was contacted by the shop, saying that this would be perfect for Pete, and that he had already been forwarded my email and would contact me shortly. Almost immediately after that, Peter had emailed me saying he loved my idea and we set up an appointment for about 2 weeks later. The shop is SUPER CLEAN, and everyone very friendly. After talking with Pete, he drew up exactly what I wanted, prepped me, and put on the stencil. He asked me to go into the back room and look at it in the full length mirror. A bunch of the other tattoo artists were back there and asked to see it- all very supportive and super fun. It took him about 15 minutes and was near painless. Pete is quick, and light handed. Where's the announcement in your self described "tattoo museum"? Not even a heads up. Instead I get a "what else do you want?" when I sit down? I get it - the tattoo artists are banging out tattoos. 75-100 in a day? That's some serious cash. So you have that in your pocket and obviously don't care if you make a few measly bucks more. I was so excited to get tattooed by Pete. He had such great reviews. I emailed him some pictures ahead of time and described what I liked about different pictures so that he'd have an idea of what I was interested in. The appointment was for 6, but Pete was working on someone else and wasn't ready until after 7. Neither he nor the guy behind the desk acknowledged that they were running really late and made me sit there. He came over, asked how big I wanted the tattoos (I wanted three small ones), and walked off to draw them. About twenty minutes later he came back and showed me the drawings. Instead of taking the aspects that I described that I liked, he had two exact replicas of what two pictures I sent. I started to explain how I wanted to change them. I didn't think this is a big deal - this is something permanent that's going on my body and if I wanted exact replicas of two pictures, I wouldn't have sent five and described what I liked in them. While I was still finishing my first sentence, he had already walked off and thrown his drawings on the ground. I wasn't rude at all. I just tried to explain the tattoo that I wanted. I'm not sure what he was going to draw the second time since he didn't stick around to finish listening to me. I got up and left. I hope you enjoy the $40 deposit you made me pay. My friend and I got our first tattoos at Daredevil recently in May. Pete was our tattoo artist. Overall, it was just an okay experience: 1- We found out when we showed up to our appointment that Daredevil has a $100 minimum. Since it was our first tattoos, my friend and I each wanted something small; so it didn't matter how small our tattoos were going to be, it was going to cost each of us $100. 2- Our appointment was for 8:30 pm but Pete was running behind so he didn't see us until almost 9:30 pm. 3- We felt he rushed us through our tattoos because it was late. My friend wanted a tattoo of her two children's birth dates and a small dragonfly above the dates. Pete quickly came up with a rendering, which she approved at first, but a couple of minutes later she asked him to slightly revise it. He didn't seem happy, so when he came up with the second rendering, she wasn't 100% satisfied and went ahead with it anyway because she didn't want to risk further aggravating him. Fortunately, my tattoo was only 4 words and I had already picked out the lettering style before going to the studio, so I didn't need much of a consult or back and forth with Pete before he started tattooing me. Although my friend and I were disappointed with our first tattoo experience, we were still nice enough to leave a 20% tip. It was actually the only time that he perked up during our entire experience with him- when we left him the nice tip. I went back to Pete for a touch-up yesterday, 7 weeks later. I needed a few letters in my tattoo touched up. He lectured me, saying that a tattoo is handmade and he's not a computer (um, yeah, I really needed to be schooled on this). He added that some tattoo artists wouldn't even have done my tattoo and that he did an awesome job on it. Basically, he was telling me I shouldn't expect perfection and that I should be grateful he did my tattoo. (Thanks, Pete, for your "paid" charity!) I think asking for 6 out of the 24 letters in my tattoo to be retouched is not unreasonable or being extra fussy, especially since I spent $120 for a 4-word tattoo with no consultation or sketching/renderings required from the artist. Besides, a touch-up to a new tattoo is very common and nothing out of the ordinary. I just nodded and acted agreeable so that I could get the touch-up over and done with. It wasn't all bad. The pros are the studio is very clean and hygienic and Pete is skilled because my tattoo healed with little to no scabbing and his line work appears to be good. He also ended up retouching my entire tattoo, not just the 6 letters I wanted, and when I fished through my wallet for $10 to tip him for the touch-up, he declined the tip, saying the touch-up was all on him. My friend and I plan on getting more tattoos, but we will shop around for another tattoo artist. We want to find an artist who we will feel a good rapport with and someone meticulous who will treat tattooing more like an art instead of assembly line work. read more
