I've been a faithful follower to Darla as a stylist for close to 10 years and I was so excited to get to visit her salon while I was in the LA area this last holiday weekend. This time I got a full head weave with minimal leave out and my hair came out AMAZING. She even added some blonde highlights in the front and gorgeous curls that lasted me 3 days! I got so many compliments. Darla takes her time and cares about the little details. I can always trust her and know she'll have me looking right at the end! This place is a gem, I'm so glad I went in. April braided my hair. Not only does she have a light hand, but she has amazing skills. My braids look exactly like I wanted and fit my face perfectly. Everyone in the shop is personable and easy to talk to, if you want to talk. If not, there's no judgment or pressure. If I could rate this place a zero I would. Can't speak on the other staff because I've only ever dealt with Darla the owner herself . Throughout my whole experience with her, I was blocked, rescheduled and cancelled by Ms.Darla herself. This has been such a horrible experience. Let me start by saying I love supporting my fellow black businesses, but not if this is how I will be treated for spending my hard earned money. I came in and during my initial meeting of her she was nice but did have issues with scheduling but seeing as we finally agreed on a date and I thought she did a good job on my frontal wig I didn't think much of it .However a couple of days later I started noticing the glue lifting on the edges of the wig. So I contacted her in hopes of her just applying some glue to those areas . She contacted me and we set a date. The day of I called her and she gave me an excuse of having double booked. Because I didn't set up an actual appointment through the online service I just let it go. But I was really upset, so I think in an effort to appease the situation she told me to book an appointment online and she'll provide service for free. It was just a frontal touch up so I was happy she was willing to do that for me seeing as she was the one who was unavailable at the time she gave me . About 5 days before that touch up appointment I got an email from the scheduling site that she cancelled my appointment. In an effort to understand what's going on I messaged her. But her messages kept turning green and her phone went directly to voicemail if you own an iPhone you know what that means . She blocked me, so I called her on a blocked number and she picked up on the second ring . I told her who I was and of course she gave me a lame excuse of she was busy and would call back. Heard back from her about 4 hours later. She basically told me that she cancelled the appointment because a free frontal touch up could only be provided within the week of the initial install.. something she never told me prior to that . She goes on to tell me she can no longer have me as a client and wishes me the best. This is 4 days before a trip I told her I would be taking. Now I have to scramble to find someone who will be willing to fix the work she's done on my head. Which is very hard, most people want consultations prior to bringing hair they've never seen before! I'm going to be totally honest about my visit to Darla's Salon. My appointment was at 9:30 I got there on time and upon entering her Salon she immediately took my temperature and told me to go wash my hands. That was a plus for me since I'm all about staying safe. I sat at the wash station and she got right to it asked me how my day was and started up a conversation. It was good vibes from then on. At the end of the wash, my scalp felt very clean and my hair felt soft. Once that was done I just felt like I was in good hands. I still needed that reassurance of looking like I was going to turn up right after. I mean it is my birthday day weekend. I am sitting in my chair ready to see what I look like and to see if I was going to like it or hate it. She did her final touches and I didn't even have a chance to look at my hair before breaking down in tears because I already felt pretty. Went to Darla's for a press and trim. I'm natural and haven't had my hair straightened in years. My hair is extremely thick. I'm hesitant about trying new stylists because I'm afraid they won't know how to straighten my hair without burning it and damaging my hair's natural curl pattern. Every natural knows about those horror stories of one bad experience at a salon ruining your curl pattern and having to start all over again. Darla is a godsend. She care's about how healthy your hair is and not just that it looks good at the end. She washed and conditioned my hair and knew exactly what to do with it to get the results I wanted without burning it.
