Uh came at 1130am and ordered fried cat fish and was told 10 mins later hey " ran " out uh.... never ever coming here ever again

I came here last night for the first time, I had the fried catfish and shrimp combo, chicken wings, with collard greens and jambalaya it was so damn good I'm back again today. It is very crowded but the atmosphere is so pleasant I didn't mind sharing a table with folks I didn't know before coming here. This is a excellent place to eat and drink. I almost forgot to tell how good the DarrowRita it is very tasty. I will definitely be back! read more

Ok so we had a party of 8 and our hostesses/waitresses were Alex and Tamara. They were absolutely amazing, super patient and constantly making sure we didn't need anything. Wow. This place is so great. Norwood is the best at running front of house I have ever seen or heard about. He really took a lot of time with us explaining the food as someone who lives and loves it. The food was the best I have had in a while. We had the gumbo, catfish po boy, cajun pups, collard greens, and sampled the red beans and rice and jambalaya. Everything was fresh, came out quickly, and tasted great. Norwood and the rest of the staff took the time to come out and visit while we were eating. The place was packed and they were still giving this same attention to everyone. The servers, the bartenders, the cooks- everyone made us feel like we were at home. I've been a huge fan of Uncle Darrows for over 12 years now and was really dissappinted to learn they where moving from their Marina location to Carson. One of those rare gems that has both exceptional food and service. Miss you guys and will visit whenever I'm down in the area. read more

Just went to Darrow's for the first time in a very long time. Got the banana pudding , I was very disappointed it was soupy, 3 little soggy cookies on top. It was not edible to me. And it was $6.99 for a small container. I won't be getting that again. The food is probably good but no on the dessert read more

First thing first, I came to Darrow's on a late Saturday night at about 15 minutes to closing..I ask can I please place an order and the owner Norwood welcomed me with no problem. Very hospitable and welcoming I will give him that. Now, the FOOD ummm, as a N.O. native born and raised I did not enjoy the food at all it's almost like I wanted to get in the kitchen myself sooo disappointed. I ordered the catfish platter with a side of collard greens which were full of stems, tough, vinegary and sweet. Sweet greens noooo, greens are suppose to melt in your mouth. The catfish were fried in pure corn meal very sandy also I had the red beans which were thick and flavorless. Not to mention, the whole meal was missing that real New Orleans flavor. No salt, seasoning, nothing. I did get a sample of the gumbo shot and that missed the mark as well. It tasted like flour, oil, and file' no seafood flavor at all. Although, I know everyone has different palates and taste buds I do really feel sorry for the people that think this is true NOLA food it is not. I actually bought the food for my mom as she did not enjoy it either. No disrespect but the cooks need to go back to the drawing board and research on the cuisine. read more

This is by far the friendliest restaurant I the west coast. The owner/operator was a friendly and genuine as could be, a real southern gentleman. The food was out of the world good. I had lunch here with my sweetie on Tuesday. I have a surgically reduced stomach so I don't really do sandwiches. Bread takes up too much space I'd rather use for meat! I had a catfish po' boy and jumbalaya. and it was perfection! So goo that writing this review makes me want to get some more right now just to see if it was really as good as my mama's fried catfish! Got a shrimp po boy, smallest po boy I've ever bought, 4 tiny shrimp on a flat 6' bread, not much flavor, needed to add gator sweat to make it taste like something, red beans and rice had no flavor either. Banana pudding was not like custard, tasted like banana flavored jell-o pudding with wafers.. NO bananas at all. For the price of the small cup of pudding i could've made a whole pan. Where else do they give you samples as soon as you walk in for the first time? I wouldn't have even thought of the gumbo but that sample really sold me. And I was not disappointed with the full dish. First time at Darrow's today and man was it a great experience. The owner of the establishment reached out to me right as we entered and had me try some samples. I'm familiar with Cajun/Creole food but I didn't mind bc he seemed extremely passionate about the food and my experience. He explained the menu and let us on our way to order. I had the catfish po'boy with half red beans and half jambalaya (yes you can halves your side) with a sweet tea and a hurricane. Miam miam m*therf*cking miam. Everything was amazing. You have to sprinkle some Lousiana hot sauce and some gator sweat on your po'boy to give it that extra something. It takes it over the top. Great fried catfish. Sides were good too. The sweat tea also just over the top fantastic. The hurricane ($5, Happy Hour ends at 7) strong, cheap, delicious I mean what else can you ask for? Just overall a great experience what a gem of a place Carson has in Darrow's. 10/10 would come back. read more

Grabbed some dinner here last night with the mother. Pretty good eats. The gentleman, which I'm assuming was the manager and/or Darrow himself, said they'd only been open 20 days, which I could kind of tell. Service was a bit slow, but very friendly. The food was good, quite flavorful. The crust on my peach cobbler was a bit overdone, but other than that everything was good. I'll be back. read more

Went here recently and had one of their po' boy sandwiches. The sandwich was pretty good. I thought the oysters and shrimp in the sandwich were wonderfully seasoned and perfectly cooked. I'm always wary of ordering fried seafood at places, since they tend to overcook it or use too much batter/breading, but Darrow's had just the right amount of cornmeal battering, so that the seafood was not overshadowed. The only complaint I could possibly have was the quality of the bread. The whole time I was eating the sandwich I was thinking, this sandwich would be perfect if they just changed the bread, to a better quality loaf. Otherwise a good experience, and the owner even came to make sure we were doing well. Always love supporting locally opened business in the area, so definitely go check it out! read more
