Delicious!! My fiancé ordered the gumbo ya ya & I ordered the Bayou salad w/ grilled catfish. Everything was so flavorful! The catfish was cooked perfectly & the Cajun rub made the fish so tasty with nice crisp greens & their gator sweat just completed the salad! The gumbo, outstanding it immediately transported me back to when I visited New Orleans. The flavors & spices mixed perfectly I couldn't stop picking at my fiancé's plate! The Customer service is exceptional. Greeted right away & everyone was friendly. Felt very comfortable & welcomed. This was the first time I've ever had a Po'Boy sandwich and I ordered the Bayou Classic which was shrimp+oyster mixed with various veggies and etc. We were greeted as soon as we walked in by the owners who were friendly and offered us samples to try out some of their food. The food was delicious and tasted even better with their signature "Gator Sweat" sauce. Also tried out their Jambalaya and their Hurricane drink which was great as well. I will definitely be back again! Make sure you guys go April 2nd from 1-5 PM, because that's when they will be having their grand opening. I have been staying in LA off and on for 6 months and unfortunately just found this Gem. As soon as I walked in you could feel the vibe. Ordered food from Darrows last night for the First time had the slow roasted brisket Po Boy it was ok a little dry for my taste and order a side of gumbo yaya the file had a good taste but it had only two shrimp I could barely find chicken in it they should call it sauauge gumbo because thsts all i saw and it had one crab legs in it I was extremely disappointed in the portion of it for 16.99 I think eating there may be a different experience I will try them one more time for happy hour if they disappoint me again I want brother coming back! read more

Let me preface this by saying I don't eat much Cajun food because I don't particularly like sausage or shrimp. But what I do eat, I love because it's got so much flavor! That being said, Darrow's... I've been waiting for this spot to open for months, hoping beyond hopes that they'd serve alligator nuggets. They don't. But the employees are nice and patient and offer free samples since they just opened. The place is nice though, ambient, and with a full bar I believe. The only flaw they cannot control is that the location receives no cell or data service because of the apartments above. I ordered a cat fish po'boy lunch combo which is supposed to come with two sides so I opted for this. Choosing for my first side the Cajun fries. I couldn't decide what else I wanted so I asked the cashier what she recommended. She said the fries or the red beans & rice. The way it's shown on the menu you assume the red beans & rice are one side but no they are two. That's fine. Most Mexican restaurants are the same. So I don't get my Cajun fries which makes me sad. I didn't even realize this until after I got my food btw. The catfish is bland and flavorless which also makes me sad. I ordered my food to go and I received one tiny container of hot sauce for my entire sandwich which is huge. I used the entirety on half of a half of my sandwich. That's right barely I quarter. The rice and beans are alright. Nothing special. I've been eating beans my whole life and blah they taste like my boyfriend's grandmother's Gallo Pinto which is the same exact dish in Nicaragua. I wish I would have gotten those Cajun fries. Anyway I gave three stars because of the lack of flavor. I would love to give them another opportunity and change my rating but I will be eating in so I can have unlimited hot sauce. And maybe order some beignets. read more

The PO-BOYS were FANTASTIC, as was the hurricane. I love,love love the ambiance of this spot and the staff are very nice! I will definitely put this on my list of favs in the area. The only shortcoming for me was the beignets, which were a little heavy and not that melt in your mouth light that I desire. read more

What happened to the cornbread!!! I used to frequent the MDR location and finally made it out here and no cornbread and a secret menu now. What gives?! Still great food though except the bread being served with the combo plate. It's so plain and tasteless it takes away from the great taste and flavors of the food. Mannnnn! I walked in to meet a friend there for some business and from the moment I walked in the atmosphere was very friendly. there were not too many people there but the staff was very nice. I ordered a drink and asked the bartender, Felton, to make me whatever he wanted. He hook me up with the most delicious Mai Tai. Hexhad a great personality. I ordered the gumbo with jambalaya rice and a peach cobbler 2go. everything was amazingly tasty the peach cobbler melts in your mouth you must try it! The interior is clean and new and there's a parking garage that makes it convenient getting in and out. There are TV's up with a bar and overall it's a good atmosphere inside. It's more of a sit down place. The service is very good and the staff was very pleasant. I ordered a po boy and gumbo to go. I was kinda "eh" about the food. I thought the shrimp po boy was good at the time especially with the gator sauce. Since then I've eaten at some competing restaurants around the area. The Po Boy wasn't bad but it isn't as good as some of the other places around. Considering the portion size relative to the price, their Darrow's Po Boy is pretty pricey. Granted I've never had gumbo before, it just wasn't good any way you cut it. There was sausage, shrimp, and crab in it but somehow it all tasted like a dirt soup. Everyone/every business is entitled to a bad day so I'll just chalk it up to that..for now. The service was good, the owners are nice, and I love supporting minority owned businesses. Unfortunately for them, there are other similar options within a mile radius that offer more value for the price. Came here for the first time and I've got to say the atmosphere was very welcoming and all of the staff was very polite. I spoke with Norwood - not sure if that's how you spell it - for a little while and he was very friendly and welcomed me. He also sked to bring my family whenever I get the chance and I plan on doing that when I have the time. As for the food, it was excellent! I had the catfish po'boy with jumbalaya. I have been a fanatical and loyal Fan of Darrow's New Orleans grill since it's inception in that little hole in the wall on Venice Blvd. Some of the best Po'boys and Gumbo west of the Mississippi River. After shooting a few major movies down there, I got addicted to the food and that great southern hospitality, which Darrow's delivers on both and then some. They catered several events at Sony Pictures for us, with over the top professionalism and most of all FLAVOR! I have attended every grand opening from Marina Del Rey to Carson and never been disappointed until now. This disappointment did not derive from the great food and impeccable service but from the BAR! I invited a good friend who just arrived in town on "Holiday" from New York, who happens to be the top Mixologist in the USA and have worked in the "Big Easy". Along with being the top Mixologist, he is also the proud recipient of the "Double Gold Bartender Spirit Award". He loved the food and service but was perplexed with how a great concept with exceptional food and service would have such an inferior, substandard bar. The bar does not match the high standard they have set for the food and service. He also mentioned that the Rum bar concept should be rocking every evening. I take no joy in writing this and my intentions maybe selfish, but I have a lot invested in this Family business and I would like to continue to do my part in making it a major success. I came here last night for the first time, I had the fried catfish and shrimp combo, chicken wings, with collard greens and jambalaya it was so damn good I'm back again today. It is very crowded but the atmosphere is so pleasant I didn't mind sharing a table with folks I didn't know before coming here. This is a excellent place to eat and drink. Just went to Darrow's for the first time in a very long time. Got the banana pudding , I was very disappointed it was soupy, 3 little soggy cookies on top. It was not edible to me. First thing first, I came to Darrow's on a late Saturday night at about 15 minutes to closing..I ask can I please place an order and the owner Norwood welcomed me with no problem. Very hospitable and welcoming I will give him that. Now, the FOOD ummm, as a N.O. native born and raised I did not enjoy the food at all it's almost like I wanted to get in the kitchen myself sooo disappointed. I ordered the catfish platter with a side of collard greens which were full of stems, tough, vinegary and sweet. Sweet greens noooo, greens are suppose to melt in your mouth. The catfish were fried in pure corn meal very sandy also I had the red beans which were thick and flavorless. Not to mention, the whole meal was missing that real New Orleans flavor. No salt, seasoning, nothing. I did get a sample of the gumbo shot and that missed the mark as well. It tasted like flour, oil, and file' no seafood flavor at all. Although, I know everyone has different palates and taste buds I do really feel sorry for the people that think this is true NOLA food it is not. I actually bought the food for my mom as she did not enjoy it either. No disrespect but the cooks need to go back to the drawing board and research on the cuisine. read more

I was excited to find this new place so close to work, because I have been getting board with the restaurants around the shop. I ordered the catfish poboy and two orders of beignets to share with everyone back at the office. First, the grease from the catfish was soaked through the wax paper it was wrapped in. The sandwhich tasted okay but the grease really made it heavy. Speaking of HEAVY, those beignets were not like those I have had at other places. These things were mini bricks. The dough was very heavy and thick. I could barely get through a quarter of one. Ended up just throwing them all away. read more
