I am a hot dog, hot link fanatic. So, my expectations are high. I order a hot link , two Chicago Dogs and two Coney Dogs. I will say this stay out of the Chicago Dog Business and focus on the Coney Dog. The Coney Dog, had me thinking I was in Detroit for real. I love it! I took one but and my eyes did a roll of satisfaction. A plus. The Chicago Dog missed the mark big time. I don't know if the ingredients just were my fresh but something wasn't right. It just didn't give me the Chicago Dog, YES factor. It wasn't juicy either. Just not up to a Chicago Dog standard. Now, the Hot Link, you guys did that and I actually want to order another one, like right now. I would also say check your bread, it wasn't stale but it wasn't fresh. Things such as hot dogs and sandwiches need good buns. read more

This place is legit. Real ice cream at a good price in generous scoops. Plenty of classics and also unique flavors I havent seen anywhere else. Did you drive to St Paul? Add this to your day. It's pretty darn close to all that government stuff, and the world's hottest zoo. read more

So I had been meaning to try this spot. This place used to be a pizza joint called Pappa Mikes. I was driving by and thought I'd grab a simple chocolate shake. I went to go in and the door was locked. All the lights and open signs were on. I called and asked if they were open, the young lady said yes, and I said while I am at your front door and it is locked, she hung up the phone and a few seconds later I saw her come out of the back. Something seemed off but I ignored it and ordered a chocolate shake. Without a word, she started making the shake. She used vanilla ice cream with chocolate sauce... Normally places use chocolate ice cream but I thought I'd try it. It was ok, but it lacked real flavor it tasted like he's quick tbh. Kind of a weird experience not sure I'll go back. read more

Dar's Double Scoop lives up to its name and reputation for having good ice cream. If you order a small waffle cone, you'll get a double scoop. If that's not enough, then get a medium or large for a few quarters more. But it truly is a double scoop (even for the smallest size cone) and it's in the name. They have roughly 12-20 flavors of ice cream on hand at any given time. Black licorice, peanut butter chocolate, French silk and rainbow sherbet are a few of the current delicious examples. Prices are affordable and the staff are wonderful. It's a great place to ruin your diet in a fun and tasty way! read more

Dar's Double Scoop is probably one of the best ice cream shops in my opinion. The price, quality, quantity, and the fact it's locally owned. All the things that makes it a wonderful ice cream shop! Lil yang and I went here yesterday to celebrate her birthday. Lil yang got a small sugar cone with cake and ice cream(flavor), and almond joy(flavor). I got a small cake cone with Zanzibar Chocolate. Our total was $5.50. The amount of ice cream we got was a lot! I was so full after my ice cream, I had to consider that my dinner. Probably not the smartest idea, but hey, it was Lil yang's birthday treat. I haven't tried their food there, but I was recently looking at their menu, and I enjoy a good brat or polish sausage. So I know I will have to try them soon and I will let yelp know. Overall I definitely would recommend this place to anyone. There aren't a huge variety like grand ole creamery, but what they do have is a great selection, and the price is amazing! Support this local shop, you won't regret it! read more

A nice price for the wallet. I stopped by for some ice cream and the staff was so nice and friendly. He walked me through the process, explaining the different sizes and cones. He even gave me samples. They have a good selection of flavors. They even offer pizza! What more can you ask for? read more

Wow this place is a treasured gem. Very very nostalgic. I'm from Detroit and that place is the home of Coney Island restaurants. Dar's offers a Coney Dog and I can say with pure honesty, that it's extremely tasty. I know your saying to yourself . "Dude it's just a hotdog." I appreciate Dar's for incorporating a piece of my hometown in his restaurant. They even have Superman flavored ice cream. Superman is a ice. Team flavor specific to Detroit. The pizza here is incredible. They even slice it into squares for you, which is dangerous because you can't stop eating them. There is a reason I became the Yelp Duke of Dar's. I could eat here everyday if my girlfriend allowed it. This place is for all ages. Take the kids here for a quick snack or grab a pizza for dinner. There is a reason why this place is called "double scoop" their scoops are ginormous. Just want to thank the amazing staff for their patience as my party went back and forth on ice cream flavors and probable sampled all the flavors, again very sorry! I've been a fan of Dar's for nearly a decade. A locally-owned business, it has been a joy to get to know the people working there, and stopping in for a pizza dinner, or just getting ice cream to go, they are always friendly and helpful. I really enjoy the pizza here, though I've found the green olives to be a git strong for my taste. The ice cream is always creamy, and there's a large selection of flavors. When they say "double scoop," they mean it -- if you want a tiny cone, ask for a kid's cone, because a single is going to be a double-scoop. You can always get your ice-cream in a cup (even with the cone), or just plain in a cup. They will hand-dip quarts for you to take home. If you order a shake or malt, you have the option of whipped cream and a cookie with that, and can get them to-go as well. Recently, they added Italian Ice, so you can get those smooth, fruit flavors if you want to avoid milk products. Restrooms are next-door in JMT Subs, another fine business. read more

I can't vouch for the food, but the ice cream was amazing!!! Very reasonably priced & very generous portions! The small is actually 2 scoops. I got the salted caramel and nut and some island fudge variety which were great together. They even had watermelon sherbet!! I would've gotten that, but needed chocolate lol It's not much to look at, but don't judge a book by its cover read more

Dar's is a pretty great ice cream joint that's only blocks from my house but somehow I only made here for the first time a few days ago...what's taken me so long?! Well, I guess I know, I have been infatuated with Izzy's for months and haven't dreamed of looking at another ice cream shop in the mean time, but hell, it's so close and has such an adorable hot dog man statue outside! What's not to love? The prices are low and you get so much for what you pay for...hint: you really only need to order a "small" because a medium and large cone is MONSTEROUS. Their small is like a large, trust me. Anyway, for $2 and some change I got a "small" cake cone of Root Beer ice cream topped with a scoop of Rum Cherry; it was fabulous. hint: they let you mix and match flavors! A dream for the indecisive airheads out there like myself. I believe my boyfriend got the French Silk Pie flavor and was quite fond of it as well. They have quite a massive selection of flavors for a small shop with cheap prices, I would definitely recommend it if you're in the North End area. read more

That's it, I love it. Such a wonderful neighborhood, family owned place. The 2 guys behind the counter (one older, one teenager) were so patient and nice to my kids as they went back and forth between flavor after flavor. They gave them samples of each one. When they were told they could have a scoop of two different flavors they went nuts. Portions are big. Price is low. I would say 30 or so different flavors. It may not be homemade like the Grand Old Creamery but it is Brown's ice cream and it was very, very good. Root beer float ice cream? Oh yeah, you got me hooked. The decor is similar to that 50's theme. It could use a little sprucing up. The vents on the ceiling are a bit nasty. There are plenty of booths and tables. This place is just a great little ice cream shop. We didn't try the food so I can't speak to that. On a warm summer day this place just can't be beat. read more

I came here for ice cream the other night. It was good but nothing special. I did like their ice cream selection though, they had a good variety. I had the sundae, it was good but not amazing. My husband had a cone, he got two flavors - cotton candy and French silk. I thought that was weird but he loved it. I thought service was slow, 2 employees. I was getting impatient, there were only a couple people in front of me. I also thought one of the employees was rude, I think he was trying to be funny, but wasn't. read more

I've been going here for a year now and have never had problems with the service (from the owner to their employees; everyone has been really great!!) This is a little ice cream shop in a sketchy neighborhood (according to friends but what do I know? If the food's great and the service is great... sketchy isn't really an issue) this is also connected to a pizza place that they have next door. The selection of ice cream was impressive considering that the prices were fairly cheap. I would highly recommend the Sea Salt Caramel and Black Walnut. read more

I love Dar's. They have great ice cream, a 50's old school decor, their staff is uber friendly AND their prices are cheap! For less than $ 2 you can have a huge amount of ice cream and a waffle cone. They let you sample the ice cream. They have had an annual car show in the summer for about the last 3 years. I love this neighborhood hangout. I go there with friends and family. Plus they are right across the street from the Rice Street Library and the Park, two of my favorite places. You can read a good book, enjoy a game, and get ice cream...sigh can it get any better! read more

My friend and I tried their pizza tonight. Oh, my word. One of the best thin crust pizzas I've eaten. Owner used top notch ingredients and.charged just $15 for a 16-inch large and up to 8 ingredients. Unheard of. Definitely recommend. If you like ice cream and lots of it, this is the place. I usually try to stay off of Rice Street since it tends to be sketchy, but we were tired of all the normal restaurants we go to and wanted to try something new. Best independent malt spot in the cities. Love love the top end ice cream selection and awesome malts. This feels like a neighborhood fixture, and prices are very low. We had 2 malts, tots, and 2 sausage sandwiches for less than $20. read more

I'm in absolute love with this place. With all the choices I get and how much I get for the price I pay. Of course, if you get ice cream at a store, it might cost cheaper than here, but the flavors and everything is amazing. I love how it has this old-fashioned diner look to it. I fell in love with Dars when I was a Rice Street Festival ambassador 5 years ago. Kevin, the owner, is the most giving, humble man ever. Not to mention, the ice cream choices are SUPER delicious and options plentiful! My personal favorites are the white chocolate raspberry and cake and ice cream. I brought my fiance there for the first time recently and he agreed that it was the best! The prices are also SUPER reasonable (much better than other corporate options). I highly recommend Dars! read more

The small business feel is very nice, and there's plenty of parking on the street, even though their lot is a bit small. It was really nice seeing all the people come out to enjoy the food and weather. In the end I got a s'mores medium mixer, and it was delicious. I told myself I'd only eat half and freeze the rest, but I couldn't stop until it was gone!

Fun dip flavors! Note that they only work for vanilla/chocolate/twist since the other flavors are too soft to be dipped.

I took a photo of the hours so they are clear. I tried the butterscotch sprinkler for my first time. I'm a huge ice cream lover and have had my fair share of ice cream. I honestly thought the soft serve was pretty bland and the same was true for the butterscotch drizzle. I thought maybe my allergies were to blame, but my partner tried it and agreed that it was very bland. I'm willing to try something different in the future to see if it was one off. I think their prices are pretty fair compared to other locations.

She also said "I don't know what to tell ya" when I asked how do we know which flavor to buy if I've never had. For context, I'm accustom to being provided sample cups or tasters of the special flavors at ALL other ice cream and froyo palors I wanted to try something new but this place doesn't offer samples like other parlors.
