‼ W A R N I N G ‼ NOT KID FRIENDLY ‼‼ We've been to Daru several times as a family and have always had a good experience- until recently we were incredibly disappointed. We visited Daru yesterday with our 2 year old toddler, who is an extremely picky eater, so we brought a Happy Meal for her as we've done before. This time, however, the staff refused to let us bring it inside, even though it's never been an issue in the past. I understand restaurants have policies, but we were long-time customers, and this policy was never an issue before. It's disheartening that rather than being accommodating, especially for a small child, they turned us away. I asked the young lady that was our server if she could allow it this last time as a final one time courtesy and moving forward we will no longer bring outside food for her, but she would not budge and said "no." we explained again, that the food was just 4 nuggets and fries for our toddler and we, her parents, would be eating off the Daru menu but, again, she was firm on her stance. We always supported this establishment, but after this experience, we will never be back. It was disappointing to feel unwelcome after being frequent visitors at a "family-friendly place", I expected more understanding and flexibility. Instead we were shamed in a full restaurant in front of the other guests. EDIT: I just skimmed some reviews and see a common denominator of the young girl providing awful customer experiences for several people. how unfortunate for the restaurant's business. Came here for the first time, ordered to go. I ordered a few sushi items "all cooked" mind you, and a Thai tea. I got stomach pains immediately after eating. Small, clean sushi spot. Fast, friendly service. Sushi is fresh and presented beautifully. The prices are decent compared to other sushi joints. We also tried a couple of hot items, like their chicken teriyaki and their donkatsu. Only down side is that street parking will be your best bet here. Came here on a double date one weeknight with the boyfriend and ordered a bunch of grub that all came out pretty solid. Parking was a bit hairy but we came late enough that we managed okay in their tiny lot. The place itself is pretty small so I don't imagine they get a whole lot of sit down customers; the place in the evening seemed to get a lot of take out orders. We ordered a good variety of dishes: Baked mussel, lobster roll, dragon roll, and a few more I can't recall were all consistently delicious. Green tea wasn't loose leaf, just a teabag, but it was a cold night and I wanted something warm. We ordered a bottle of plum wine but they didn't have a full bottle on hand to fill that order which in hindsight, was a good thing considered that we over ordered. their customer service is trash. I just wanted to enjoy my stupid 30-minute lunch and the waitress was extremely rude. I had called an order to-go but decided to just dine-in since they took a couple minutes to get my order out. so I sat down to wait. At this point the waitress was already clearly unhappy with having to serve any of the customers. Eventually I just decided to quickly eat from the to-go box. Apparently this is against the law, which I was unaware of. The entire time, I got extremely unwelcoming glances from the waitress and it really ruined my experience here. When I got up to head out, she coldly "confronted" me and told me "I *let* you eat your food today but this space is reserved for dine-in only". She continued to lecture down at me as if she has done me an enormous favor that I should be eternally grateful for. And you know what, that totally makes sense, i probably should not have stayed. but I didn't think about it at the moment. Unfortunately this encounter felt personal and like an attempt to directly humiliate me in front of other customers. Poor girl hates her job and it shows with the countless eye rolls, dry unfriendly tone, and lack of manners. Food was not too bad, but nothing special. Just so happened to be close to my job. WOW.... I think this is the best sushi I've ever had in my life. Literally the softest, warmest meat in these special rolls. We ordered the Alaskan, Mountain, and Pink Lady Rolls. The first two were so savory and amazing. Pink Lady was so fresh! Felt like I was eating ceviche in a roll. The service was also exceptional. Looks like this place stays busy with carry out orders but that did not keep the staff from seating us quickly and staying attentive to our needs. I can't wait to come back here again.
