great sushi & cool experience, sitting on the floor like how some places have it in japan!! I just wish they had some more salmon-focused rolls. but the rolls were delicious!

Corn Riblets! Sections of corn taken off the cob, seasoned to perfection - perfect with a cold beer on a hot summer evening.

We've been going to Daruma since it opened, and every meal has been a pleasure! The food is fresh and delicious, with plenty of outstanding appetizers and rolls. Janice and Ann are such friendly hosts, and prices are very reasonable. The atmosphere is very comfortable and relaxed. I highly recommend Daruma for a wonderful dining experience!

Got takeout from here and the food was pretty good. I got a few sushi rolls, a Chirashi, and a chicken teriyaki. Everything tasted good, though the prices are a bit on the high side. The Chirashi was probably my favorite item. Would order from here again and try out some of their other offerings.

I have never been to a place where they had the authentic Japanese style of seating. You can sit with your shoes off and on the floor with the table in front of you. Very cool but I kept my shoes on this time. We started with the tuna spring rolls and it was one of the more interesting things I have had. It was a tempura battered fried spring roll with tuna inside. It came with a sweet and sour type sauce. Not bad but kind of funky since the tuna was slightly overcooked. It also wasn't much of a spring roll which I think of as being light. The sushi was good and they have a bunch of specialty rolls. The prices are fair but no lunch specials which surprised me. They also had a private parking lot which always makes life easier. The place was cool but nothing draws me back to it.

My favorite Japanese place in my neighborhood! The owner is so friendly and really goes up and beyond to build a relationship with her regulars. A bit of caution here because they do so well the dining room gets loud during most dinners especially on the weekends. If you're on a date you can ask for the tables by the window which is separated from the hustle and bustle. They also have a private room in the back for small parties. The food is great. They also get very creative with their rolls. My man and I love to share the sushi for 2 which comes with 9 pieces of sushi, 1 spicy tuna roll, 1 California roll, and 2 special rolls of your choice (I love the crispy jalepeno and the daruma). Everything is so fresh and bursting with flavor. Don't forget to bring the wine and get lost in your conversation and food. The entrees I have tried (shrimp tempura and sukiyaki) are also very good and lots of it. They have their own parking lot which they share with the animal hospital. Big plus so you don't have to deal with street parking.

What's unique about Akai is that it's a joint Japanese and Mexican restaurant (not the case at the Westfield location). You can sit on either side and order from either menu. The Japanese side tends to be more quiet. I enjoyed the food here. I primarily had Japanese foodThe rock shrimp tempura as an appetizer continues to be a favorite. Chilean sea bass entree was well cooked. Fish was fresh and what I would expect per the price point. Fish tacos were the only thing ordered from the other menu. I would've liked it more had they spread the sauce evenly, maybe layered it on the fish as well and not just the top because the bite distribution is uneven. Service could have been a tad more friendlier. It's just not warm and inviting as it could have been.

I to tickets with my family to go to a show at the Bergen PAC and I thought we'd go to Akai (I miss Bennies). I knew they had moved to a combined location with Mexican (formerly Blue Moon) and I was a bit skeptical. The combination worked out great. We sat on the Japanese side. We mixed and matched between Japanese and Mexican menus and everyone was pretty happy. The Japanese side was more crowded than the Mexican side. There seem to be a bit of confusion with the wait staff (we had two waiters that seemed to serve us a bit repetitively), but they were friendly and I'd rather have too many check-ins than none.

There are four of those here besides regular tables and sitting at the counter to choose individual plates as the train takes them around. If you want more selection Choo Choo has a large choice of special rolls and hot dishes too. My husband gets negimaki. If you have room at the end try the fried oreos for dessert. Sinful.

But i was expecting a lot before coming here due to all the reviews i found. The food is not good like other Japanese restaurant some of the sashimi is very cold like just thawed ( we eat here around 1pm sunday) and some are not fresh anymore and where talking about sashimi this should be always fresh. The presentation is the big factor here for experience but it's better if they served quality, fresh sashimi. We order also shrimp tempura the breading is like tonkatsu breading so the tempura is not like the typical Japanese tempura it taste like chicken tenders covered with tonkatsu breading. The price for the sashimi we order with nice presentation $70, a little pricey For just few slices of sashimi. l think what we paid here is the presentation and experience to see the revolving conveyor of choo choo train. My recommendation it's up to you guys to try ..

We had an amazing dining experience at Czen Restaurant and will definitely be back!…read more We started with the Oxtail Sushi appetizer, which was absolutely delicious and a perfect way to begin the meal. For the main courses, I ordered the oxtail with rice, which was a very generous portion and full of flavor. My partner had the salmon with Mandarin glaze and mashed potatoes, and it was outstanding--perfectly cooked and incredibly tasty. For dessert, we enjoyed the fried ice cream with purple sweet potato, which was unique and delicious. Two glasses of shandy wine complemented the meal beautifully. The atmosphere was fantastic, with great music and a lively, festive vibe. The hostess was wonderful--she took the time to chat with us, asked if it was our first visit, and checked whether we were familiar with the cuisine, which made us feel very welcome. Our server was exceptionally kind, attentive, and knowledgeable. He carefully explained the menu and even double-checked details for us to make sure everything was exactly right. Highly recommended for both the food and the outstanding service. We thoroughly enjoyed every part of our experience and look forward to returning soon!

Father's Day Brunch!…read more Four of us attended for the Father's Day brunch. After being seated I asked the waiter about the free Old Fashioned or Sangria dads were suppose to receive as per their IG post. The waiter tells me that was only for Saturday June 20th but he'll check with management. He comes back and states it was only for the 20th. I pull up the post which states 20th and 21st. He goes back to his manager and they honor it. Their IG post also mentions a surf & turf special for $59 (which is one of the main reasons I chose this restaurant). When I inquired with the waiter he stated it's only available for dinner (this is not mentioned anywhere on the post). Between the 4 of us we had several lobster tails with waffles, 1 person ordered hot honey chicken with waffles, 4 additional lobster tails and several sides of eggs with bacon. 3 waffle orders came out together and everything else came out staggered 20 - 30mins later. We repeatedly had to ask for the rest of the order. A friend had a Cadillac Margarita which was good. I attempted to order one and was told they ran out of Cointreau and Grand Marnier. How do you run out of the main ingredient for a standard margarita at 2pm on a Sunday?! Passion fruit wings along with a few other menu items were not available. All in all I wouldn't return to Czen. Although my waiter was very pleasant doing the best he could and the ambiance was nice, the restaurant was poorly prepared and brunch was poorly executed.
