I stopped by for a late lunch take out and I was pleasantly surprised. First, the interior while not large is cozy and very inviting, complete with nice Japanese wall art, and even a stove heater in one section with many Japanese ceramics like tea pots on display. I ordered a Chicken teriyaki lunch box (bento) - (Entree, $14.50, 4/5) - I was happy with the heft of the bag and upon opening it, food was hot and fresh. California rolls were good and 2 pieces of shumai were crispy and nicely seasoned. Rice was the right portion and chicken was fresh-tasting with good quantity of teriyaki veggies. Some pieces were a bit tough and the seasoning overall did not really permeate, but I didn't mind. I mean, it's lunch special so you can't really expect too much. I was nicely satisfied with this bento - not too much, not too little, and at a great price. I used to do yoga right next door for years and had never gone in, but now I would like to dine in because they had that nice, cozy and authentic Japanese sushi house vibe that was so inviting + of course, good tasting food at reasonable price. My sister and I went there for an early dinner. The restaurant is very casual but welcoming as was our waitress. It is a BYOB which we love and there is no cork fee and they had an ice bucket to keep our wine cold. We had the sushi/sashimi for 2 and it was plentiful and fresh. The sashimi was nice size piece of fish and so fresh that it just melted in your mouth. It was more than enough for two that we couldn't finish it and took some of it home. Tim, I believe was the chef came out and was super friendly even gave us a sample of purple rice bc to taste. Delicious and informed to be very healthy! Looking forward to going back. Had dinner here before a show at the Bergen PAC. It's a hole-in-the-wall Japanese restaurant run by a sweet couple with a very large selection of menu items. I had pork dumpling soup ($9 for a large bowl), a dragon roll, a coconut lobster roll, and hamachi, maguro, and scallop nigiri. My wife had the chicken teriyaki bento box ($24). Since moving back to New Jersey, I am grateful that I found this restaurant, as the owners are wonderful, sweet, and kind. The food is delicious, fresh, and always served with a smile of gratitude. If you're going to eat Japanese food or hot pot the steamed seafood in a bag. this is the only place to go! I get curbside takeout a lot from them, it's always ready within 20 minutes. The Ramen broth is excellent. The yellowtail, scallop, and tuna sushi are always fresh. If I could eat here every day, I really would! Great place! A must-go! read more

Me and my boyfriend have become regular at this place. It's a wonderful hole in the wall i'm so happy to have found. The service and ambiance is spectacular. The service is always friendly and very attentive. The ambiance is amazing with light music playing, dimmed lights and beautiful decor. The food is spectacular and always incredibly fresh and quick. Ordered lunch sashimi to go for 20.00, the item just says chef choice for assorted sashimi. When I got home I saw they gave me imitation crab meat about 5 pieces, a bunch of egg sashimi, and pieces of ebi shrimp (literally the thin shrimp placed on top of sushi), the salmon tasted strongly like sea water (not in a good way) , and 2 other fishes with 2 pieces each. They gave white rice on the side which i thought was going to be sushi rice but nope was literally just chinese white rice. The miso soup also was not impressive. We literally took like 2 bites and threw it all away. I always get sashimi so am definitely familiar with what is good, this was not it. Terrible cheap way to pass low quality ingredients as sashimi. I have ordered to go from here a few times and the food is always good/fresh. Love the flavor and the sushi is fresh. I went to eat there for the first time and they have indoor and outdoor seating but limited seating so call before you go to be safe. We called and were able to confirm no probe during the week. The service was 100%! They were on top of everything! The apps were good and the food was sooo good that i forgot to take pictures. Salmon teriyaki was so good. Flavored nice and not too fish at all. Got takeout for lunch and was pretty impressed with the food. Food was well-packaged and overall we were satisfied with what we got. What we ordered: 1. Chirashi - really nice presentation. There were 5-6 different varieties of fish, plus sweet egg and imitation crab. One improvement I would suggest is to replace the imitation crab with another kind of sashimi. 2. Tonkatsu - good flavor, but maybe use a thicker cut of meat or a lighter batter. As I was eating it, I felt like I was getting mostly the batter and not enough meat. 3. Assorted sushi rolls - they were all pretty good. The standouts to me were the shrimp tempura, spicy salmon, and yellow-tail rolls. read more

This place looks a lot different from the pictures on here since COVID. There's about half as many tables and each are segregated by a thick canvas curtain and the place becomes dimly lit at night. If I'm honest, I prefer this design as it makes for a cozy/personal dining experience. I'm on a new phone so I don't have any pics, but this place is right next door to where I go for yoga. The sushi is fresh, the names of the dishes are funny, and the service is fast. The owner is Japanese so it's cool to know the recipes are semi-authentic; what more can you want from a sushi place? The first time I walked into this place to pick up some takeout, there was some OG K-pop on the radio. So I asked, were the owners Korean? Turns out they were. Time to take a closer look at the menu.... That's why this review isn't really about sushi and Japanese food. The sushi is fine, don't get me wrong! The okonomiyaki is credible, with all the condiments and toppings you'd expect! The miso soup is downright tasty! But the beef dumplings... yummy fried mandoo. The spicy tonkatsu ramen... with lots of gochugaru. And the hwe dup bap... full of super-fresh fish, one of the best we've had. So what I'm trying to say is... this is a Korean-Japanese gem. Cool interior, intimate setting. Can tell this is authentic Japanese based on the menu and decor. Unfortunately, I was served spoiled fish which there is no margin for error for when you are serving it raw. I ordered the sushi/ sashimi combo. One of the pieces was extremely slimy and smelled rotten. The tuna was also passed it's fresh date as it had an off color/ flavor/ and smell but not quite as bad as the other piece. The salmon was also not fresh. I was very disappointed. Over all, i could tell the fish was old and not good. Thankfully I spit out the rotten piece. Also, they serve escolar or "white tuna" which is a cheap substitute for actual white tuna which is Albacore Tuna. Escolar is is considered to be poisonous and inedible, you will not find it served in a high end sushi restaurants. Not sure why they serve it here. read more

I was there on 4th of July. I order Sushi & Sashimi for 2 cost $60. It was so disappointing fish were OLD and have a Smell they put sesame oil on the white tuna. Seriously!! I never eat that in my life no one would do that too. Some sushi just came from freezer because inside the fish it's ice. Another was around the fish the color turn yellow, so disappointed. We call sever and told her, off course she didn't except that!! she said it's fishy because of raw fish and I said no!!! I know the difference between fishy and raw fish but your fish are old and not fresh at all. She did offer to change only spicy salmon roll (which is smell so bad) to spicy tuna roll but we didn't take it. We paid $78 plus $12 tip total $90 and we Did Not eat them because we don't want to get sick but we still pay and tip. Don't go this place for sushi!!! read more

Stopped in here for lunch on a Saturday but was very underwhelmed. Nice staff but the food quality was not great. Pricey for what it was. My girlfriend ordered the ramen soup and it had a very small slice of pork, no egg. Broth was bland. I ordered a sushi medley, forgot the name of it, but it had multiple cuts of fish in a bowl similar to a poke bowl. It is a featured picture on yelp. That was OK but the fish didn't taste too fresh. Miso soup tasted like any other miso soup, but definitely not home made. I'd say go if you need a quick sushi fix. But avoid if you're looking to be impressed. read more
