Had a wonderful Mother's Day dinner here. The place is really cute and has good sushi and very pleasant staff. Tim was very friendly and a pleasure to interact with. We will be back again!

Had dinner here before a show at the Bergen PAC. It's a hole-in-the-wall Japanese restaurant run by a sweet couple with a very large selection of menu items. I had pork dumpling soup ($9 for a large bowl), a dragon roll, a coconut lobster roll, and hamachi, maguro, and scallop nigiri. My wife had the chicken teriyaki bento box ($24). Everything was presented nicely, fresh-tasting and delicious. I would definitely come here again and recommend.

I love how fairly priced the sushi is. They have an amazing lunch special with MANY options. If I lived locally, I would be a frequent customer. The sushi was good. The worker was kind. I, highly, recommend this spot.

Ordered off door dash and picked up a few rolls. California rolls were buy one get one and they hit the spot. Came with lots of wasabi which I appreciated because I use a lot! Will def order from here again.

Amazing little place I wandered upon because traffic was so bad on the Palisades I took an exit into what I believe is Englewood NJ .. only about 15 people is my guess can be seated in this tiny space .. the food was amazing especially the scallop sushi and the seafood soup .. a husband / wide team own Matsuyama . He makes the food fresh to order . And she works the front taking excellent care of the guests .. I would give it 10 stars because 5 stars aren't enough

Me and my boyfriend have become regular at this place. It's a wonderful hole in the wall i'm so happy to have found. The service and ambiance is spectacular. The service is always friendly and very attentive. The ambiance is amazing with light music playing, dimmed lights and beautiful decor. The food is spectacular and always incredibly fresh and quick. The best Japanese cuisine i have had in my life. I highly recommend the sashimi appetizer and volcano roll. It is incredibly fresh and just absolutely delicious. This place never disappoints. Every single item on their menu is amazing!! I will always come back!

I have ordered to go from here a few times and the food is always good/fresh. Love the flavor and the sushi is fresh. I went to eat there for the first time and they have indoor and outdoor seating but limited seating so call before you go to be safe. We called and were able to confirm no probe during the week. The service was 100%! They were on top of everything! The apps were good and the food was sooo good that i forgot to take pictures. Salmon teriyaki was so good. Flavored nice and not too fish at all. Sweet potato roll was creative and surprisingly good.

Got takeout for lunch and was pretty impressed with the food. Food was well-packaged and overall we were satisfied with what we got. What we ordered: 1. Chirashi - really nice presentation. There were 5-6 different varieties of fish, plus sweet egg and imitation crab. One improvement I would suggest is to replace the imitation crab with another kind of sashimi. 2. Tonkatsu - good flavor, but maybe use a thicker cut of meat or a lighter batter. As I was eating it, I felt like I was getting mostly the batter and not enough meat. 3. Assorted sushi rolls - they were all pretty good. The standouts to me were the shrimp tempura, spicy salmon, and yellow-tail rolls.

Best food! We love everything here & so will you!

(I did that recently for a holiday dinner) To his credit it was probably 8-10 years since we had been there. I remembered it favorably and was looking forward to trying it again. Doesn't feel like it's aged particularly well. We were the only diners a bit after 6 on a Thursday. Waitress was pleasant. We started with 5 skewers. Various parts of the chicken, mostly pretty bland. Nothing was bad but nothing was noteworthy. Tried another round of 5 skewers, the one with the plum filling was a bit more enjoyable. In Yakitori 39's defense, we probably did it wrong. It's probably fun with a bunch of sake but I don't drink alcohol. The ingredients seem quality. Probably won't be rushing back.

My dining partner and I were seated rather quickly. Our server took our drink orders and came back promptly so we could order our food. The menu is pretty extensive but we ordered an assortment of skewers and a bowl of ramen to share. The skewers came out little by little; about 3 skewers per plate. They didn't come all at once so I assume they bring them out as they finish getting grilled. The chicken heart was some of the best I've ever had. I'm not sure if it's the way it was sliced, the seasoning, or just everything about it but I wish we ordered more. The tail skewer was another standout. It had so much crunch that it was almost like it was fried. The flavors were rich and varied. Each skewer cost upwards of $4 so that's a bummer. Unfortunately the ramen wasn't so great. Not terrible, but not great either. Especially not great for $19. Not my first choice for ramen. Is it the most bang for your buck? Certainly not. But I did enjoy my meal and in the end, that's what matters.

I ordered the Unagi Don Gozen ($42)- it came with a whole tray of different delicious items, with the star of the show being a generous amount of unagi (eel) over rice. The eel was cooked very well and the rice was flavorful with a bit of sweetness. There was also a small bowl of udon noodles, some sashimi, a crispy tempura shrimp in a yummy creamy sauce, flavorful edamame, mashed potato with corn, and some pickled veggies - quite the diverse array, all of which was tasty. The restaurant itself has a rather simple yet elegant Japanese wooden design. The prices suggest it's a more high end place, but the vibe is actually rather casual. The staff are very attentive and the service speed is pretty quick. Overall, I would definitely give Moru 4.5 stars if I could. I think it's great for most types of occasions, and the only reasons it's not getting 5 stars is because I do think the prices are a tad higher than I would've hoped and I think they could've done a bit more in terms of designing the place to match the price point. That being said, I still highly recommend Moru, especially for a nice lunch.

They are known for dipping ramen, but I didn't get that. I got the tonkotsu broth Ajitama because I didn't want that much meat and I wanted to make sure I got an egg. The broth was delicious, not too salty but very rich and umami in flavor. I love the addition of wood ear mushroom and the noodles had a great chewy texture. They have some claw machines in the front, it's $5 minimum spend which gets you 5 coins, each machine is one coin and there is one machine that gives you two tries for one coin. Sadly, the noodles were so overcooked they staged a rebellion, stubbornly sticking together into one dense, doughy ball before we could even dip them properly. The Chashu didn't fare much better--it was about 60% fat to 40% meat, which isn't a "premium cut" so much as a "choose-to-skip" cut. Worst of all was the kid's bowl: my daughter rejected it after a single salty sip (and kids are basically sodium vacuums). Overall, the quality has plummeted since our last visit. Surf N Turf: I will order this moving forward as my go-to roll. The beef was cooked to perfection and paired perfectly with the salmon. This roll itself filled me up, I thought I was going to order something else but I was done after that. Salmon and Shrimp Teriyaki: My partner gets this each time and I am always so excited to throw my fork into his plate. The teriyaki sauce here is so tasty, I want to put it on everything! The salmon and shrimp are also cooked super well, no chewiness here. Great amount of crisp on the salmon, the way it slides onto the fork is beautiful to watch. Vegetable Gyoza: The star of the show!! Best appetizer they have truly. I was so sad when there was no more. But thankful to have been able to experience such a great starter. Sweet Potato Roll: (Not pictured) The roll was ok, I liked it but felt like it was missing something. Maybe I would have liked it if it was Korean sweet potatoes. I won't order again because the menu is so extensive I can't limit myself to something I thought was ok. (4/5) Overall, Shokudo is a fantastic place to eat. It's truly an experience. The music is amazing and not overbearing, the ambiance is beautiful and there's multiple conversation pieces. What I love about looking at the items in the restaurant is how they go from traditional to contemporary. The servers were the sweetest, they all were extremely hospitable.
