We've enjoyed the hibachi dining at DaRumas for years. It's always been a good experience with talented chefs and a delightful atmosphere. We also enjoy the appetizers and sushi. The Japanese tacos are fabulous. There is a very good selection of rolls to choose from. Normally the service is very good. Last evening our server was a little hurried, failed to check on us, and didn't slow down much when he was at our table. We were a slight bit late in ordering the spicy conch salad, but it never came out. Martiniis, sake, beer and wine are quite good. This is a great steak house with hibachi. Oh chef that we had was excellent and gave us a great time. Food is always spot on and it is a really nice setting. Great for great groups and I'll definitely be taking a nice set of friends here to come and eat again soon. The bar keeps you busy till your table is ready so that's always a plus! read more

I was the mother of the toddler that was with the Holliday family (Google review) and it has taken me some time to sit down and write this as I have never in my life been so disrespected and embarrassed by a restaurant. We made reservations for our family to enjoy habachi and I was so excited to try something new and heard wonderful things. My daughter is 2.5 and eats her own meal and in my eyes wherever we go to eat is a full paying customer and deserves a spot at the table, it doesnt matter if she is in a high chair or not. We arrived and waited and when we were sat we placed our daughter in between my husband and I and were never told via online, during reservations process, or even upon check in of a policy that highchairs are to be put on a tiny corner spot that barely fits a plate and the seat cant even fully scoot up to and not at the main table. Especially for a full paying customer. But the manager told us he wouldnt allow it and that it was a policy (no where written, or adverised, so a rule they make up) and that is where we were frusterated and dissapointed in the behavior of the manager. My father did argue and rightly so as this policy is no where and did not make sense for a full paying customer. My daughter could not fit in the corner and was away from the table and a plate could barely fit, it was hanging over which would cause issues when trying to feed a toddler.. I could understand if she wasn't eating her own meal and just sharing or eating something different than us but she was getting her own meal, we were paying full price for a seat at the table. I am so sad with how it was all handled and so embarrassed to have to deal with this, when we should have never had to in the first place. Someone mentioned they were the family beside us ( google review) and I'm sorry but you were only there for the last part and the manager was very rude and disrespectful not just to me but I felt toward my daughter. He was not accommodating at all. We will never be back and while I know that does not mean much to these folks in the restaurant business I will just say this place is extremely unfriendly to children, so be cautious when bringing little ones. read more

We were seated - after waiting 20 minutes!!!)) and getting ready to order at which time two girls (hostesses) came up to us and told us tank tops on men weren't allowed And they offered my husband a white T-shirt that looked like it had been worn before. And the best part was there was a lady in a tank top with her bra hanging out right next to us -- and even she was completely dumbfounded that they were even talking to us. They never asked for her to leave or cover up. Many many many different ways I could've gone about this. They could've said something in the front before they seated us - you know while we were waiting for those 20 minutes. They could have asked to speak to one of the adults privately. They could have offered us a new shirt to put on. Or they could've just said "next time you have to wear a shirt with sleeves but this time we'll allow it since WE already made the mistake of sitting you down". So very disappointed. Long wait for hibachi so we sat at a table. Server was new but did a good job, sushi was delicious but a little pricey. The main dishes though are where this rating comes from. Extremely small for how expensive they are, paid $28 for maybe 3oz of steak, fried rice, and a handful of veggies. Been going here for my birthdays for as long as I can remember! Eventually the "awesomeness" of the chef cooking in front of you wears off. Some chefs do more of a show than others, but if it's not a full table per say; I get it. I don't go there for the entertainment primarily anymore, I go for the yum-yum sauce. No joke. I'm obsessed with the shrimp and steak combo, I always take yum yum sauce to go. This is where my only problems arises, some times I get a huge container and don't get charged extra. Sometimes I get a few plastic containers, and get charged, I believe it was $3.99 for sauce to go. Now, with the bigger container, I'm more apt to accepting the extra charge, but the inconsistency is inconvenient. What if I'm just taking home my meal and wanted 2 little ones to go? I know this is over informative, but I truly go there for the sauces, what can I say, I'm a "saucy" fanatic! And I hate having to ask for more little containers, I was a server once, I know it's a pain in the arse. They usually are true to schedule if you make a reservation ahead of time, and the facility is always clean including the bathrooms. Parking can get a little crowded at peak times, including the wait time without a reservation. Again, at peak times though. read more

For a very long time, nearly ten minutes, we waited for someone to acknowledge us seated at the bar. We left and won't be back. We had ceramic containers of hot saki. I could see on the distant TV screen a basketball game being played and could hear the occasional roar from the left side. My spicy tuna was on a fine presentation (with a fresh orchid ! ) My partners tempura was not good-- it was a pile of beige kitchen scraps, some 6 to 8 inches long and some too tough to eat - and the tempuraed wadded napkin we really broccoli. Oh DaRuMa... The memories I have of you. I originally went to the location in the Quay before they moved it and it blew me away so much I always looked for occasions to come back. The hibachi grill is amazing, the sushi is amazing and all the meats and sides they have are great too. If you're looking for something full of flavor and a lot of variety for a little bit more money... This is definitely the place to go. May not be traditional Japanese all the way but everyone can find something they like on the menu. Also, if you do the hibachi then make sure that you get the fried rice if you're a fan, it's to die for. As well as the tempura ice cream for desert! read more

I use to come here a lot but now the quality of the sushi is getting worse each time I go. I don't think I'll ever go back there again. Overall the teppan chefs are all very nice, they all smiled and were very welcoming. The servers were just as nice, my water got refilled all the time so I was very pleased with that. The only thing I didn't like was that there was a young man dressed in a suit. He looked like the manager, or one of the managers. He was not very nice at all. He didn't even say thank you for coming or smile. This is why I rated one star, the quality of the sushi is getting worse and the manager, someone who is suppose to be a role model to everyone else, is not welcoming. We ordered drinks and she came back and told us that she only has 1 Japanese beer left (four of us ordered it). Three decided on just water instead. Whilst waiting we seen the plates were not cleaned. After sending not 1 not 2 but 3 plates back. Only later to return with the answer that She didn't have large beers only small ones. We had hibachi and Joe was our chef. He was the funniest chef I have ever experienced. The food was great. I suggest coming for the sunset menu or they have 2 for $40 specials until the end of Oct. Being married to a man who used to live in Japan, I had high expectations. We like to consider ourselves to be "japanese steak house connoisseurs" and i must say, we have had the luxury of indulging at Japanese steakhouses all over the state, and none have come close to DaRuMa. I always order the scallops and filet, and the scallops are absolutely to-die-for. If you love scallops...oh my god. Order them. The only downside, compared to other Japanese steakhouses, is that you have to pay a couple extra bucks for fried rice. And they don't serve you noodles. However, everything else is amazing. Our server was quick and attentive and our chef cooked the food excellent with a fun and humorous attitude. I love hibachi style and this is the place I go to get it. That being said I don't go often. The routine is the same everytime no matter who is prepairing your food. The decor is appealing to the eye and it is a nice place for a date (lighting, koi pond waterfall, etc.), if you don't mind sitting with 6-8 strangers. They do have intimate seating but it is not hibachi style obviously and I have never tried it. The only reason I will go back is probably just to try that and the sushi bar. The hibachi menu has range from chicken and seafood to steak and duck, which are all pretty good. The seasonings are simple and you get the typical soup to start, then a typical lettuce, carrot, red cabbage salad with the most delicious ginger dressing (I swear it is freshly made), and shrimp. Then you get your choice of white rice which is included in your meal or you can opt for daruma fried rice for an extra $2.50. It is basically pork fried rice without the pork. My husband loves it, I do not. I have been to this location so many times and the one thing that irks me is consistency. The service is bad. The last I went it was our anniversary about a month ago. We made reservations for 5:00pm and we weren't seated until 5:20pm. We got to watch people who weren't even there for as long as we were be seated. Why did I even make a reservation?! There were about 5 people at the front desk the entire time and every single one of them looked pissed off. No one smiled but everyone used their "business voice" on customers. If there is one thing I hate it is bad service. I have since been a few times and tried their sushi which was pretty good. No complaints as usual on the food. read more
