First time here and I must say the ambience in this restaurant is divine. Service right upon entry was very nice and welcoming. I ordered the Beef Barg with basmati rice. Meat was very tender and flavorful and overall had a great experience.

Drove 40 minutes on Saturday just to find out that they are closed for a private event. Online hours not updated on Yelp or Google. No indication of a private event. Also, the lady at the front was very rude and not welcoming whatsoever. Yes, I understand theres a private event but no need to scold a potential customer.

We go about once every other year and the quality remains steady. Get the fessenjon, Koobideh, and geymeh bademjan. Upscale, i usually am the underdressed Seattle-ite here.

This is my fourth time coming to this restaurant and I must say the ambiance is elegant, make sure to wear something fancy. The staff is very attentive and waiters and hostess very respectful and alert. The food is delicious and filling. Perfect my traditionally made, how your Persian mother would have cooked but better.

A few months ago, I went to lunch here with colleagues for our team outing. The ambiance is nice and the staff are friendly, but I wasn't thrilled with how long we had to wait, both to place our order and to get the check. The kebab was tasty, though slightly chewy. I really enjoyed the rice and loved adding the delicious brown dressing on top. I'd return, but there's no hurry.

SERVICE If you've been following my sizzling reviews here on Yelp, you know how loyal I am to places I absolutely adore...yep, this is one of them. Why? Well, who doesn't cherish excellent service? A++ is an understatement my friends. You'd be treated like a Princess and a King here - I couldn't state it any better. If you feel special and you feel seen, that's enough. You'd go back, no questions asked. FOOD Oh gosh, check out my past reviews over the last 10, no it must have been almost 12 years of patronizing this gorgeous place. And yes, after more than a decade of coming here, it still feels like I'm on my first date with Darya. Get me? It's like being married to the same person for more than 10 years and you still feel so much attraction that it feels Ike the first time. (Sigh) AMBIANCE I'd absolutely highly recommend Darya for your next date. It has a fancy vibe to it that you'd be proud to take your date here so romantic. Now if you like some entertainment, bring your date to the Darya in Orange. Not my cup of tea cuz the Orange branch's got that Chuckee Cheese vibe to it, plus the belly dancer music is way too noisy and distracting.

One of the best if not, the best PERSIAN restaurant in the OC, great service and the food was absolutely delicious. I traveled from New York and the food does not disappoint. I recommend taking your friends family even a date or someone who's not even familiar with PERSIAN cuisine to try Everything on the menu. Can't wait to come back.

Was craving some good kebabs and this place came highly recommended by a friend. Close to home so hey why not try it out. This place is a really cute and spacious dining hall right across the street from south coast plaza. Can't believe after so many years I didn't realize there was a whole line of dining options. Tried a few new dishes I haven't had before and now has become one of my favorite dishes. Definitely going back for more. 1. Borani: delicious eggplant mash flavored with onions, yogurt, and herbs. Love the flavor. Sort of like hummus but made with eggplants. I can snack on this all day. 2. SHIRAZI: love this salad, very refreshing. Diced fresh cucumber, tomato's, onions, and parsley dressed in lemon juice and olive oil. Can't go wrong with this refreshing appetizer. 3. CHELO Kebab SOLTANI: ground beef and filet Mignon perfectly cooked medium served with grilled tomato's and what I believe is basmati rice. The meet was absolutely fabulous but the rice just took over the night. Didn't realize seasoning the rice with butter and a citrusy spice (believe it was sumac but not for sure) could taste soooo good. Best rice I have ever tried. Will confirm with my friend what this seasoning was again. 4. Saffron ice cream: yum love it and was the perfect end of dinner

    Cheers!

Last time I was here was over 20 years ago for a wedding reception. I figured it was time to revisit and I'm really glad I did! Definitely won't be waiting another 20 years to visit again, I'll try to put this on my regular rotation. I park the car and open the door and this wonderful aroma enters my nostrils. There's other restaurants around so I was hopeful but not sure if it was coming from Darya. We open the door and the aroma is definitely coming from here. Grilled meats and spices entice you you enter. From the first person we encounter at the reception desk to the last when we leave is outstanding service. Every single employee was friendly and the service matched the atmosphere. This is one gorgeous restaurant and it's kept spotless. It looks just as good now as it did 20 years ago. I love Persian food but since my wife can't have carbs it's not really something we can eat. Luckily you can substitute your rice for salad here making it low carb. Unfortunately when my wife and I saw the 4 course special our willpower went out the window and we went carb crazy instead. $59 gets you a choice of appetizer, salad, entree, and dessert. I assumed they'd be smaller versions but they were full sized portions. We shared a variety of things. Borani: deep fried eggplant, yogurt, caramelized onions, garlic, and herbs. This is one of the best dip style appetizers I've ever had. The caramelized onions and herbs made this a flavor explosion that I could not stop eating with the stack of lavash bread. Dolemeh: grape leaves stuffed with ground beef, rice, tarragon, split peas, green onions, basil, parsley, and herbs. I really enjoyed this more than Greek dolmades. They were served warm and the leaves much softer than I'm used to. I loved all the filling instead of most places that just use rice. This would be a great meal with a side salad or soup. Persian Salad (Shirazi). Chopped cucumbers, tomatoes, onions, and parsley, topped with house dressing of olive oil, fresh lemon juice, and black pepper. Sounds boring yet it's exciting to the taste buds thanks to the acidity. Huge portion and since we got two of them with the combo we took half home to use with dinner the next day. For my main entrée I went with the lamb kebab. When it came out I was skeptical. Then I took a bite. The lamb was filet mignon tender and whatever their "Darya Sauce" is they marinade the lamb in was a match made in heaven. Truly some of the best lamb I've had in a long time. It came with half a plate of buttery saffron rice. Again, came here to avoid carbs yet gorged myself with them. My wife had the filet mignon shish kabob. I took a bite and it was as tender and flavorful as any high end steakhouse. She's usually not a fan of Persian cuisine but she declared at the end "we need to come back here again soon!". For dessert we both had Zoolbia and I ordered a cup of tea with it. Zoolbia is like a mini funnel cake shaped donut saturated in honey and rose water. It was insanely sweet but paired fantastic with the hot tea. Absolutely loved my visit here and cannot wait to return. Parking is easy since it's tucked away on the far end of the plaza with Morton's across the street from South Coast Plaza. It's the last Restaurant in the plaza. You've got Morton's, Corner Bakery, Royal Khyber, Antonello's and then Darya.

I met up with my friend from high school and we ended up here at Darya's at South Coast Plaza. Great spot with a cute outdoor patio with waterfall. Ordered up a bottle of J Pinot Noir from Monterey County. I ordered the Lamb Rice plate (medium rare). The meal was excellent. The meat was super succulent and juicy. The presentation was great. The service here is top notch and an enjoyable experience. Our party also had the Persian Dessert combo of baklava and a few other items I can't remember.

Darya Restaurant Reviews in Other Languages

Ask the Community - Darya Restaurant

Is the food halal? All of it? Is the chicken hand slaughtered or machine?

It's a Boba Tea shop that's Vietnamese style coffee and family owned. Hamle Market offers what you're looking for with that speciality, located across Sam'a Club on Talbert and Brookhurst in Huntington Beach.

Do they offer a Kids Menu for picky eaters?

No they dont. However their menu is very simple in the appetizer section and some other items. So cute little picky eaters will be able to find yummy choices. You can also order skewers by themselves which doesn't show on the menu.

    Is there still live music?

Yes every Friday and Saturday from 6-9pm

    Is this place Halal?

This food is halal but I heard from someone that they sometime buy grounded beef and chicken from super king which is not halal.

Is this place still in business? Their listed phone number is no longer in service.

Yes, it is. I had lunch there yesterday and the place was packed!

Is there butter in rice or is it vegan?

They too it with butter but you can say no butter on rice so it can be vegan

I'd say that this is a great option for halal burgers, but I think if you're not restricted to eating halal meat, there are burger options that I like more. I quickly realized the phone rings often, so most business is ordered ahead, with the option to eat there, in the car, or take home. Clearly, for presentation and likely quantity, I recommend eating there. The host is a nice older gentleman who literally does it all, and is so good it hardly seems like he's working. My Shish kabob plate came out faster than expected, and I was almost as impressed with the salad as the saffron rice and actual kabob, which is tender and amazing by the way. Basically, you pick a drink from the refrigerator, and I let him talk me into trying hummus, and appetizer, which ultimately comes with cut flatbread. His take is less creamy than other restaurants, but the flavors are fresh, without garlic. Don't worry, the salad dressing is a fantastic creamy Italian style. Now listen. The food? Solid. Reliable. The kind of food that understands you are not here for nuance. You are here because life has punched you in the throat and you require a plate of rice, chicken, gyro meat, and mysterious white sauce to spiritually stabilize. I used to go to the OG one in NYC when i was getting punched in the throat there too. (PUNCHED IN THE THROAT BY ACADEMIA, FIGURATIVELY, y'all haver crazy imaginations outthere). Overall (1/5) This was easily my worst Halal Guys experience…read moreand honestly left me really disappointed. I came craving something familiar and left feeling like I wasted both time and money. First Impressions (1/5) When I walked in, there was only one person working, handling the fryer, the register, and assembling plates. I genuinely felt bad for her, especially considering the steady line forming. What We Got (2/5) I ordered a regular plate, which is what I usually get at Halal Guys. Nothing customized or complicated, just the standard order I have had many times before at other locations. Taste and Quality (0/5) The food was shockingly bad. The rice was raw and crunchy, which was hard to believe at first. The meat pieces were tiny and very chewy, and the pita bread was extremely soggy. On top of that, it was only around 4 pm and the usual spinning meat and grill were not even on, despite the line picking up. Service (2/5) The worker was clearly trying her best, but one person running everything in a busy location is not realistic. She was constantly running back and forth between the fryer and the line, which made the whole operation feel chaotic and slow. Space and Atmosphere (3/5) The space itself was fine and what you would expect from Halal Guys. Clean enough, but nothing stood out positively enough to offset the food experience. Was It Worth It (0/5) Not at all. As someone who is pretty frugal and almost always finishes their meals, I could not finish this plate. It genuinely felt like a waste of $18. Final Thoughts This location does not seem to be held to the same standards as other Halal Guys in the area. This experience was disappointing from start to finish.

Food is always so good and flavorful! Lots of spices and a variety of flavors- salty, savory,…read morepickley... they have it all. They also have sweet treats like mango lassi which is also good and cooling after the spicy food. Being 100% honest, the people make the place even better. Every time I've come in, the people working are so generous and hospitable- offering insight and even samples for their food. The inside is also super nicely decorated and the music is "vibey" too (my bf's exact words). They moving locations to Garden Grove, but I have no doubt that their new location will be just as amazing (and probably more amazing as well). Anaheim will miss you so much!!

WOW!!! I love everything I tried here - so flavorful and delicious! First time trying Pakistani…read morefood!! It's been a while since I'm so happy with my whole order when dining out! Premium combo = entree + $10 Entree + premium drink + masala fries I tried the bowl with mild biryani, malai chicken, green (mild) sauce, and guava mango lassi. The bowl already comes with the raita sauce (a yogurt sauce), so I got the green sauce as my choice of sauce after asking the staff for recommendations. The protein portion was super generous and very well-seasoned with their spice. The green sauce was my favorite and everything in the bowl mixed well together. The whole bowl was delicious and it didn't feel heavy, wasn't greasy. The Kashmiri Chai and the guava mango lassi are the most popular drinks, so I decided to try the guava mango lassi. The flavors blended so well. One wasn't more overpowering than the other, and the sweetness level was perfect for me, also, not too much ice. Masala fries So crispy and well-seasoned!! Could be a little less salty. Gulab jamun cheesecake Also asked for recommendations for their cheesecakes and decided to go with this one. It has the fried donut ball in the middle with syrup. It didn't taste too sweet to me, but I also have higher tolerance for sweets. The center has so much of the cheesecake cheese and it was super soft and fluffy. So delicious! The samosas were also great! Crispy and not too oily. I also love that they use compostable takeout containers, including the lid! The interior looks nice and there are a few seats available. There's outdoor shaded tables and seats too. The only downside is that I wish the outdoor seats were a bit cleaner. There is a free parking garage, just make sure to park in the retail spaces. There was enough parking. The staff members are so helpful and very friendly. Can order with a staff member or using their kiosk. HIGHLY recommend!! Would definitely go back!
