I've been coming here for many years off and on and especially love their Oktober fest celebration. Prost! Beer anyone? They have imports on tap and a ton of brands from Germany. If your coming here for the first time do not miss the schnitzel meals! It's a good hearty meal to fill a hungry belly! The pork is flattened thin, cooked perfectly and the breading flavorful and crispy. The fries thicker cut, skin on and nicely salted, yum! I had the Donor Kebab this time because I hadn't tried it yet and I have been missing out. It was really good! The mixed meat was on point and cooked just right. The veggie combinations were different then what I'm used to with kebabs but it worked really well. They had red cabbage, cucumber, tomato, lettuce, and pepperoncinis. The pita was wrapped in a thin, yet thick enough wrap to hold it all together and it was a perfect compliment to this Kebab! You can also never go wrong with any sausages, bratwurst or bologna. I like that they don't have a huge menu because everything you get is quality ingredients made with care. Did I mention beer? They have a multitude of glasses and form factors to pour into. The owners and employees have been consistently very kind and helpful with any questions I have about the market or restaurant since the beginning. Speaking of the market, they have always had great and fair prices with their imported items and its one of the only places in town that has quality European dark chocolates. I was in from out of town and saw das Alpenhaus on Vista. Places in strip malls always pique my interest. I checked reviews and the menu on here and was torn between a Reuben and a schnitzel sandwich. I went with the schnitzel and it is a five star sandwich for sure. Pounded incredibly thin with a crispy seasoned breading and on a fresh crusty bun. Honestly I miss that sandwich. Next time, we will see how the Reuben compares! We were driving through Boise from WA to NV and stopped to check out this German Deli/Beerhaus/Restaurant. Wow - what a treat! The schnitzel and fresh cut fries were likely the same price we would have paid for a Jersey Mikes Sub and was infinitely better. Extremely generous portions were served and the pork schnitzel was honestly one of the best I've EVER had (my wife and daughter agreed). It was pounded super thin so it was absolutely gigantic but without being over fried or dry, which is definitely an occupational hazard when preparing it like this. Rather, it was moist and well seasoned and while my wife is a monster and smothered an entire lemon tree over hers, I enjoyed it as is and didn't feel that it needed anything. The restaurant is just order at the counter and then they bring it to you. Very easy and casual. They serve a ton of different German beers if that's your jam and their market/deli has a wide selection if you want to take home some sausage or Maggi seasoning or some such thing. Just a very chill, lovely experience. If I could offer any suggestions at all, I'd just warn that while there are a handful of tables inside and out, we arrived around 6:30pm and the sun was like a magnifying glass on our bodies while we sat inside. It might be nice if they had pull down shades for that part of the day as that got pretty hot. I love this Bavarian spot. Their variety of German foods is outstanding and their house made brats are the best. With high quality meats and spices, their brats were delicious coming off our grill. Excellent food but mediocre service! You place your order up front and they bring the food to your table. We ordered a variety of things (4 items), which took a very long time to come out, like 40-45 minutes. There was only party of 2 and a party of 4 ahead of us. They do have a disclaimer sign saying "the food is cooked to order, and the busier it is, the longer the wait." However this is no excuse to make your guests wait an excessive amount of time and logistics needs to be improved. The employees were very unfriendly and seemed reluctant to be working. When we asked for extra plates/utensils to share the food, the lady only brought 1 plate and 1 fork when there was 3 of us, so I had to ask for more, which led to even more negative vibes. I didn't order a beer initially with the food, but since it was taking a while for the food to come out, I decided to get one, and went up to the front to order it. The employee there also didn't seem happy to be taking my order and rudely asked to see my ID. Schnitzel sandwich - Freshly fried, crispy, and juicy/moist schnitzel served in a bun with lettuce and tomatoes. Simple but delicious. Ruben sandwich - Probably one of the best Ruben sandwiches I've had! Great flavor, loaded with meat, sauerkraut and a healthy amount of mustard. The sauerkraut does have some sort of black seeds/berries added to it, I think they might be juniper berries? Not something I've had in a Ruben before. I liked it, but it could be a strong flavor for others. Bratwurst I ordered the bratwurst off the à la carte menu, thinking it was just going to be the sausage, but was pleasantly surprised it came served in a bun topped with mustard! Great brat! Flavorful and good texture. Corn chowder - My least favorite thing I ordered. Nothing really special about it, more cream than corn flavor. Beer - Schneider Weisse Aventinus - Ordered this beer on draft. I'm definitely not a beer connoisseur so when in doubt I just pick the one on the menu with the highest ABV (lol). It was smooth, rich, and crisp. Was tempted to order another! Overall it's a nice and quaint little restaurant/deli/store! They sell a bunch of imported goods/groceries and beers. First time here to eat, I've purchased beer here before. Small German Deli with a market and large selection of German beer. I had the bratwurst with a roll and sauerkraut. The wurst wasn't real big, but it was enough for a meal. The thing I didn't like was that the kraut was very wet and soaked the bottom of the bun. I dislike wet bread. Maybe the kraut could be on the side., I don't know. I know I won't order it again. The French Fries were okay, good flavor but not crispy. Wow! What a great place to randomly find. After leaving the airport, I was driving through town and saw this deli and quickly turned around. The staff was very friendly and polite even though it was a very busy lunchtime. The interior of the shop has all kinds of German grocery items, foods, drinks, etc The sandwich however is where the magic really begins. This is by far the best schnitzel sandwich I've ever had including one in Frankfurt, Germany! It was the the perfect combination of flavors and texture. First impression - Cute little slice of Germany right there in Boise! Second impression - Staff didn't seem thrilled to be there. They weren't rude, just not at all interested in being friendly. I was super excited to try their Doner Kabob but it unfortunately it left me with just a "it's ok" sandwich. To be fair, I have had Doner Kabobs in Germany and I wasn't expecting an exact taste experience, but this wasn't really even close. Sorry. The meat seemed to be some kind of pressed slabs and not shaved and it was much more of a leafy salad sandwich with very little meat. Pommes (fries) were good but kinda cold. Probably because they sat at the counter for quite a while before we realized it was our order and went to get them. They came with mayo (traditional) but had to giggle when charged extra for ketchup. Did love the curry ketchup though. As I was driving by, I saw the three flags of Germany, Austria and Switzerland, three countries I visited and loved, I knew I had to try this place! Their decor does create a German atmosphere, with memorabilia on the walls such as a shrine to Germany's 1990 soccer team, arguably the best of all times. There were also many German speakers dinning and drinking. And the food? Very good, I tried a wienerschnitzel with pommes fries, crispy on the outside, tender inside. It was enough food, but I couldn't resist trying a Bratwurst, it was smaller than I expected, tapas size, served with German mustard in a mini baguette, a must try. Das Alpenhaus isn't just a German deli. It's a whole experience that everyone should experience. You've gotta love the adorable grocery store that has tons of European goodies and novelties. It's hard not to grab something while waiting for your food. I'll keep this short and sweet because I could go on and on. My absolute favorite item on the menu is the Schnitzel Sandwich (thinly pressed pork cutlet, egg washed, breaded and then fried served on a pretzel bun with mustard, mayonnaise, and fresh cucumbers, onions, tomato and lettuce. $11.99). Holy schmoley this sandwich is huge but you'll want it all to yourself. The schnitzel is about twice as big as the pretzel bun. I was already feeling full even before digging into the pretzel bun. Every bite is heavenly!!! Perfectly breaded and fried. My other faves are the Reuben Sandwich and Bratwurst on a Brötchen, but I'm convinced you can't go wrong with whatever you get at Das Alpenhaus. Since the manager asked me to include the whole story. I Told your employee specifically that he was a service animal and that it is a violation of ADA to deny access BEFORE he yelled across your shop asking your manager. And YES I sat OUTSIDE in 30 degree weather waiting for my item I ordered and he came out and told me that he was wrong and handed me my order and told me that i was welcome to come back. DID NOT come out as soon as he found out, did not apologize or announce in your store that he was wrong as loudly as he asked the question of his colleague. NO HE CAME OUTSIDE apologized and handed me my to go order- how is this fixing it in the moment? Thank you for apologizing after I waited OUTSIDE of your shop for 20 min for the order (which I would never have placed had i not promised my collegeue I would grab them something when I went. and I did not order for myself). But I DID tell them he He was a Service dog and those two questions were not what was asked. So PLEASE BE SURE to get your side straight and you blaming me is a prime reason anyone should avoid your shop that has a disability because in your apology you make it a point to attack me. YOUR EMPLOYEE WAS WRONG and YOU SHOULD HAVE EDUCATED THEM BEFORE AN ISSUE. AFTER being told he was a Service Dog HE YELLED to your Manager, had he asked those two questions there would never have been an issue. BUT I told him it was a Service Dog.....then he yelled across your shop. But thank you for replying because now I know I need to look into whether I need to file an ADA complaint given your response blaming me for your employees lack of training. **** had your response been a simple apology and advising that you had educated your employees we would have been fine- but you chose to try to divert blame to me- read your response. I am all for educational opportunities and definitely for ensuring people do not have to go thru these events- but read your original response and ask yourself if you were me- doesn't it sound like you are being snarky and accusatory. Your employees have been educated- hopefully no one else goes thru what I did- but also hopefully everyone reads your responses and decides for themselves if it's worth the risk. Oh my goodness! I stumbled across this German Delicatessen while in Boise for work. In addition to their adorable little store that carries products I could only find in Germany, their food was incredible. Best schnitzel I've had in the US! And their pretzels, yes please!!! I am just rating this place on my meat preferences. So, I know what German cuisine is, but somehow I forgot and went here today. Their meat choices is beef and pork. They even have "headcheese".
