First, let's talk about the location. The street this place sits on is an absolute vibe. Even on the night we visited, there was a solo artist performing, people dancing in the street, and a mix of restaurants and businesses all along the strip. If the weather is cooperating, sit outside. The beer selection is impressive, with a great range of lagers and ales. We had our eye on one particular light, crisp option, but they were out for the night. Our server pointed us toward something comparable... I believe it was called Teddy Bearnd...it worked. Now, the food. My friend went for one of their signature burgers, which was seasoned simply so the beef really gets to shine. The only hiccup was that they were out of tomatoes, which is a non-negotiable topping for her, so keep that in mind if tomatoes are a must. I went a different route and ordered the beef focaccia. Uniquely layered ribeye and really good. We also shared a Greek salad that was simple but fresh and satisfying. And the french fries with their homemade ketchup? Don't skip em. My co workers and I headed to Bittercreek for my birthday and happy hour! We were killing two birds with one stone today and we were all here for it! A couple of my friends showed up first, got a great table outside and ordered a couple apps to get the party started. I showed up after goodies and drinks were ordered. We started off with some chips and salsa and pountine. The chips and salsa looked good but the pountine was definitely calling my name! I love me some potatoes and these potatoes looked like they were going to be right up my alley! I dished up a good portion before my friends got some. They were kind to let me plate first cause of my new kidney. I didn't want to be too greedy so the portion I got was a few bites. Those few bites got me hooked so it was a must to get another order started. While my order of pountine was being worked on, I tried the pretzel with cheese and the hummus plate. The pretzel was perfectly salted. The cheese sauce was the perfect addition to the soft pretzel. I took a good amount of the hummus and Greek salad. The pita that came with it was a great vessel for the hummus. It was crispy with a slight chew to it. The hummus was clean tasting and rich. The Greek salad was so fresh. All the components of the salad tasted like they were just picked from the garden. You literally can't get anymore farm to table than that! It was so fresh! The second order of pountine came out. Everything about this appetizer was delicious! I love soggy, softer fries and these fries were the business! The gravy and cheese were the highlight of the dish for me. You can never go wrong with potatoes, cheese and gravy! There was a good amount of meat on the pountine. It was so tender! You can tell it was cooked with a lot of love and time! I took the rest home and I plan on hiding my box in the back of my fridge so my daughter can't get to it! We ended our happy hour with the beignets. Each one of these goodies were covered in powered sugar. The caramel sauce that was paired with it was devine! In all honesty, as full as I was, I could have polished off an order myself! A friend recommended this place, while I was in town on business. It did not disappoint! I sat at the bar, the bartenders were super attentive and helpful. They have a variety of beers that are their own brand as well as others. No cocktails. Beer and wine only. I got the wedge salad, and hot damn, those little crispy onions rings on there were fire. I also got the brisket Reuben. The sauerkraut had little bits of jalapeño. The brisket was super tender. Nom Nom Nom! This is such a cool spot. Let's just start off with this is going to be a long review. I have visited this place twice now and both times have been absolutely great. My first time my server was Jeff and I had lunch, which was a beer and spicy Lamberger, which was supposed to be medium rare. The lamb burger had definitely a good kick to it, but was about medium medium well. But I'm not holding that against this place because the burger tasted absolutely phenomenal. The second visit I went with a large party and we all were pretty enthusiastic with our conversation. Our server name was Kierstan. She did an amazing job handling our whole table. The table start off with appetizers of wings, as well as chips and salsa for the whole table. Multiple drink drinks were ordered and she handled that with care. We all ordered lots of food, which I ordered the focaccia bread Sammy with the poutine side. Both orders were absolutely delicious. The bathroom was immaculate and the cooks cooked very cleanly and both servers did a great job at two different times. We had an awful experience here. Our waitress, I think her name was Katie, was terrible (so sorry if I got the name wrong). She was so rude, we felt like we were inconveniencing her the entire time we were there and we were a very easy group of three. I wanted beer recommendations and she was useless, when she gave me one to sample that I did not like she blamed me for not liking it, which I found odd. The food took forever to come and when it did come the quality was subpar. My chicken Cesar salad was warm and inedible. I truly cannot recommend this place at all. The desserts were okay, but the service was so unsettling I do not know that we will want to return. The vibe in here was super cool though so overall just disappointed. read more

Busy Friday! Delicious food and beer made the evening special. My wife and I were fortunate to find a table since it's first come, first served. Our waiter, Kieran, was truly wonderful--thank you for taking such good care of us. The waters arrived promptly, along with our appetizers and drinks. I enjoyed the Vice Black IPA, while my wife had a refreshing vodka soda with lime. In my opinion, this place offers the best selection of beers and spirits around. For dinner, my wife had the sweet potato black bean burger with a salad. In previous years, she's had issues with this dish falling apart, but they've improved it, and she really appreciated how it turned out. The salad was crisp and perfectly fresh. I chose the grilled chicken club without bacon. The bun was incredibly soft and flavorful. The chicken was crispy and tasty, and the pickles added just the right touch. This place reminds me of Ferris Bueller's quote: "Life moves pretty fast. If you don't stop and look around once in a while, you could miss it." 2nd review, couldn't remember if I had the Fish & Chips or not...reading my last review I did not have the fish & chips, had the fish tacos...glad I ordered what I did. Now I have my list of places in Boise to go for Fish & Chips, this will be an add. I moved here from MN and have been missing a place that does a more traditional Fish & Chips, Brits style, pub style with flaky, beer batter style fish and small chips... Alas, this was not that. I do not know why more places don't make their fish this way?? This was a very good fish and chips but this was panko crusted not battered. I will say of all the Panko crusted places I have tried in Boise (most of them) this was much better. First off they have their oil at a slightly lower temperature so the fish was not dried out, over-fried. The fish was very good, small bits but very good. The fries weren't bad but also were a little bit off good... side-note but I find it very odd that in a State known for potatoes there are very few places that have really good fries! The flavors on the plate were very good. Popped into Bittercreek Ale House this past Sunday night around 8:50 pm after eating dinner at the Bardeney because a ballsy but very well written non-political and non-partisan Facebook message popped into my feed that convinced me this place is worth my time and support ... and also because they had a chocolate chip cookie on their menu ... and also because they are one of the ONLY spots in Boise that stays open past 9-frickin'-PM on a Sunday night. Loved the vibe, their cookie is deliciously decadent (sans ice cream--I won't allow my cookie to be defiled by anything so mundane as vanilla ice cream), their beer selection is great, and the service at the bar is exceptional (Marlow is a gem.) Needless to say, I'll be returning to eat dinner there the next time I pass through Boise after an exhausting eight-plus hour drive. read more

Bittercreek Alehouse gets shocking stellar reviews. But it's just not a great restaurant. It's located in a popular tourist area and it's relatively easy to find a table. But the food is quite a letdown. The poutine features a very heavy gravy that is too overpowering, not to mention lacking the authenticity of a good Canadian poutine. The only redeeming quality were the cheese curds. The fries were tasteless and extremely disappointing for a region that prides themselves on potatoes. The grilled cheese and tomato soup was solid. The Bad: We sat quickly thanks to the open seating, but the service is slow. Also, while I did mention the service was friendly above, that applied to the female servers. There was one male server/greeter who was extra spicy with people. It was close to last call, and he was turning down a lot of folks from sitting down or ordering a drink. Yet others had just sat down and were still going to get their order taken soon. My wife and I had been at our table for about 20 minutes before last call, yet later he came by saying "Didn't I tell you it was last call and to not sit down?". Sorry sir, you have me mistaken with another white guy that you turned down. The Terrible: The strawberry rhubarb pie is a complete disaster. It literally tastes like a frozen pie from the grocery store that they took out and defrosted before serving. It's cold. The filling tastes like unfrozen strawberry puree, and the crust is completely hard. The pie is also mentioned in two places, but they don't list it the same way. On the dessert menu, it mentions the pie with an almond cookie on top. But on the full food menu, the pie doesn't mention the cookie. I'll save you time and tell you that it does not come with a cookie on top. Overall, had I came on a night with quicker servers, and didn't order the pie, this probably would have been a win in my book, but unfortunately, it was very mid. read more

Bittercreek Alehouse is a gem--hands down one of our favorite spots in Boise. We ordered the black bean and sweet potato burger, fish and chips, Caesar salad, and fried Ballard curds, and every single bite was spot-on. The veggie burger was seriously impressive--flavorful, hearty, and satisfying without trying too hard to imitate meat. The cod in the fish and chips was beautifully cooked and full of flavor, and the coleslaw on the side was a refreshing surprise: crisp, tangy, and--blessedly--free of that usual sugary dressing so many places lean on. Even the small details felt thoughtful and balanced. The fried cheese curds were golden, gooey, and addictive, and the Caesar salad was fresh with just the right bite of anchovy. Everything came out hot, well-plated, and perfectly paced. Our server was kind and attentive, checking in on us regularly and always with a warm, genuine attitude. When we asked for Tabasco and malt vinegar, she brought them without hesitation, along with a few other sauce options--just another example of the thoughtful service that makes this place shine. I'm not necessarily a trendy Craft Brew guy. I know what I like and usually it's not what is super popular at most Brew Pubs I have been to. These folks made it easy for me to try some Beers I and up quite pleased to be enjoying! See the photos for a list. I like a chewy beer with some heft to it, yeah they got some of that here! They also have some super well executed menu choices too. When you walk into a place that is really hopping' on a Tuesday you expect it to be good but this went even further! Some standout items for me were the Pretzel appetizer. Hot soft and perfectly paired with some light and zippy mustard that was a perfect match for my beer choices. The Crispy Fish Tacos were also excellent, but them beans.... They call them Drunken Black beans. I like Black Beans when they are done right. First thing I noticed was The comfortable seating. The atmosphere is warm and friendly and seem like every employee had a smile on their face. I had a flight of beers. Loved the variety to choose from. But I came for one item that I had been told about. And so I ordered the butterscotch beignets for my dessert. The beignets are soft and pillowy with a slight Chrispness to the outside. They're dusted heavily with powdered sugar but what really brings it to heavenly levels is the warm butterscotch dipping sauce. Rich and salty and buttery. We had the absolute BEST experience at Bittercreek Alehouse yesterday! My sister's fiancé had planned to propose over the weekend, but things didn't work out, so yesterday morning I scrambled to find somewhere downtown Boise that could take 18 people for a last-minute celebration. After striking out with several places, I called Bittercreek and explained the situation. The host was amazing and immediately connected me with their events person, who helped make it happen. When we arrived after the proposal, the table was set up beautifully, and the whole staff seemed genuinely excited for my sister and her new fiancé. Our server (I believe her name was Lexis) did an incredible job managing our large group, on top of her other tables, without missing a beat. She was friendly, attentive, and made sure everyone had what they needed. The food, drinks, and atmosphere were fantastic, but what really made it special was the warmth and kindness from the entire team. Let's get this on the table first. I do not write reviews of anything. Partially because I don't think that my opinion means much but this had to be done. Bittercreek provided me with just what I needed today. Warm and inviting service and a terrific selection of food and beverages for me to enjoy. Dined alone at the bar and everyone that I came into contact with did what I expect. Timely greet and informative service personnel. Hats off to the whole team. Was talked into a Chardonnay from the Willamette Valley and it was spectacular. I usually stick to Willamette Valley reds but went for it after a tiny taste. It's what I needed but didn't know it until it was offered. Too many times I stick to my wheelhouse and don't stray but was coerced by someone who I assumed was the inhouse shotcaller. I had two glasses and it went well with the Bowl of Corn Chowder I was told about. Served hot and with some semi crusty sourdough that hit the spot. Finished every spoonful and it brought me back to my time in New England. The soup was done right for sure. Noone trying too hard which is an issue when trying to recreate a coastal favorite while land locked in the mountain state of Idaho. Right before I had.my second glass of Chardonnay, I asked "the front of the house shot caller" about the selection of Rums and was offered a taste of one that could have been a contender for my follow up beverage. No mixer needed. Would have made a great sipper, as most good rums can be but I elected for the second glass of Chardonnay. Glad that I did. Was feeling a bit buzzed and full from my meal and had to exit stage left before trying a dessert. I'm sure it would have been epic but I'm thin for a reason and don't overindulge. 1st time in Boise and got to try the Poutine and fries. The potatoes soup was delicious and the fries are fantastic and sweet. My kid love the poutine and he ate it all, it is definitely his favorite now. The HH drinks are also great. The place is fun and cozy with great staff. We had a wonderful time here and the service is also fantastic. The menu is huge but easy to navigate and quick turnaround. Absolutely amazing. Brandon the server was outstanding! He gave us great recommendations for everything, brought some beers to sample, and checked on us frequently with a friendly smile. I ordered the All Day Special (Butternut Squash Soup and Caesar Salad) and it was PHENOMENAL. By far the best caesar salad I've ever had, and the soup was delicious! It was garnished with some candied walnuts and had a light heat to it that brought out some amazing flavors. I also got the hot buttered rum which was delicious, especially on a cold day! This review is mostly about by the TERRIBLE service we received. Which is a huge bummer, because the food was pretty good. We sat down and ordered within 5 minutes -- off to a great start. And that's it. After every single table around us sat (and several sat after us), got their drinks, water refreshed, checked on by the server, AND received their food we were still sitting there. 30 minutes later, she came over to tell us "your food should be our shortly." No apology, no nothing. She said she'd refill our waters, but didn't. Our food finally came out and it was actually pretty good. The Mac & Cheese was really good, Grilled Chicken Sandwich had a well cooked piece of chicken on it, and the fish tacos were just average. Every other table was offered a fan (or two) to help keep the flies/bugs away, but not us.
