The food was delicious, I personally recommend the huckleberry bleu cheese burger. Others in my party loved the club sandwich with hand sliced turkey, the Philly sandwich and the tuna meltdown. All were very good. While we didn't order any pasta, the pasta portions looked huge, would definitely try if we come again. Cozy cabin vibes! Food: 3.5/5. We started with the poutine, which was just ok. Part of it were cold, which was odd. I had the huckleberry burger, which was decent. I love huckleberry flavor, but I felt it was lacking. I have read several reviews that said the fries are amazing, but I thought they were just ok. They are thin and crunchy and just not my favorite. My husband got the French dip special. That was AMAZING and unfortunate that it is not on the main menu. Service: 5/5. Our waitress was fantastic! We got seated right away, although it was very busy. Atmosphere: 4/5. I love the location right at the base of Bogus and the vibe is cozy cabin, perfect for a winter date night! We sat at the fireplace, which adds to the ambiance and was delightful! One downside is that there was no parking when we went so we had to park on the street. Kid friendly: 4/5. I went yesterday on my lunch break for the best sandwich I have ever had. The beautiful Tuna Meltdown with a side salad and blue cheese and Hippy Shake. The manager Monika checked on my often and insured I was enjoying my meal. The whole crew was so nice and although I was dining alone, I felt like I was with family. This is my favorite restaurant. Totally different from a visit to the the brick and mortar restaurant , so I think there's probably a vibe there that people want and I support that I know that this place is an institution in Boise, for a long time so I really considered my review before posting My 15-year-old got the wings and he gave them a 2 out of 5 - I didn't try them. We got also got the artichoke spinach dip, which was actually the best thing I had from there ( big chunks of artichoke are my thing ) but suuuuuper heavy on the garlic. I'm not giving that a high rating either. Their french fries are floppy, and quite frankly, not yummy. I ordered the pork chops. They were thin which I knew, but they were wayyyyyy overcooked BUT The only reason I'm rating them a 2 is because the balsamic Demi glace is yum. Please take the butternut squash pasta off the menu . As a frequent fan of the Hollow I was so disappointed with the new fall dish. It was similar to something I make my kids, butter noodles. Basic bow tie noodles, a light sauce, and probably 3 pecans. I imagined something a little more thought out and appetizing. Stick to the great normal menu items. read more

I moved to Minneapolis, Minnesota over the summer, and tried numerous breweries and pub food. Nothing came close to Highlands Hollow. I would facetime my dad and tell him how much I just wanted an actual good hamburger and fries from HHB! Highlands Hollow is literally my baseline for comparison, and I'm yet to have food as good as here. My menu favorites: Mess O' Chops (I would beg my dad for these every time we went as a kid), Chicken Linguine with Caesar Salad, Smokehouse Burger, and the BBQ Pulled Pork. Their french fries are the best!!! They nurture a very lively environment, and it's always enjoyable. The restaurant is perfectly lit, and the booths are so comfortable. Their service is unmatched and you can tell the waitstaff's always happy to have you as a customer. When the weather is nice I'll bring my pup to enjoy the patio with me. read more

I've been a loyal fan of Highlands Hollow for 20 years. Yesterday I had a bowl of soup that was more broth than soup. I was very disappointed. But part of it was my own fault, I did not send the soup back. I wrote a message to the manager and was delighted this morning when I received her response. Not only was she, professional and apologetic she offered me another lunch. Forgiveness is easy to give when you receive such great customer service. read more

We decided to take a little bit of a drive and try Highlands Hollow again since we had not been there in years. The restaurant, food and especially the outstanding service did not disappoint. All three of us enjoyed something different, my husband, a BLTA, my son, Mess O Chops and I had the pepper steak on the soba noodles. All of our meals were outstanding. Alyssa was the best though, with her cheery personality and bright smile. She made perfect recommendations for wine and IPA's. She was at our table just enough and not too much, making sure we had all that we needed. We will definitely make the drive from Eagle again very soon. My favorite place in Boise! Delicious sandwiches and more, go on a Friday for the impeccable clam chowder Ski lodge feel, with a round fireplace in the center of the dining room for cold days. One of my old college roommates lives in Boise, and Highlands Hollow is one of her favorite local restaurants, so when we get together it's often right here :-) This place actually has a number of things going for it.  The staffers are welcoming and friendly, there's a wide selection of beers, and the serve some truly awesome burgers, with fries so deliciously fried and crispy that you'll be tempted to get a second helping :-) Tip: If you visit here during the cool weather, I strongly recommend that you try to land a table near the fireplace inside.  If you're here in the spring and summer, their outdoor patio is quite lovely. read more

Highlands Hollow has some great live music on Wednesday night - really nice in the summer when you can sit outside too! The food portions are LARGE - my wife and I usually split the pasta dish. The kid's menu is also great - our kiddo loves the burger. The service is a hit or miss though. Sometimes it's on point, other times it's bad. As far as beer, the beer is okay. I really enjoy IPA, and their house IPA ( I think the name is toads), its a little too malty for my liking. The vibe is really the best part here though. read more

This place is just ok. At least for what I had. We got the garlic fries. Only served during happy hour. Takes more chefs to make. All it is is their normal fries with minced garlic. I wish the fries were crispy and they used a garlic oil in conjunction with the minced garlic. Make it to where vampires won't want to get near me, or anyone else for that matter. The CBLT was ok. The bread was pretty oily from whatever they grilled it with. It was just a mediocre sandwich. I got a Caesar salad with my sandwich. It had hard boiled eggs in it and also sun dried tomatoes. This place is a favorite between my family and friends. I love to get the spicy beef salad, but everything here is great. Make sure to try an order of fries with the MFT ketchup, it's so yummy! My favorite beer here is the hippie shake. The service is good whenever we have gone here and the vibe is sort of like a fun ski lodge meets brew house. There's a big fireplace in the middle of the restaurant, and they also have a nice outdoor patio for when the weather is good. They have live music on certain days (I think Wednesday night unless it's changed). Definitely a Boise favorite! You can also get refillable growlers of your favorite brews. read more

Draft beers are great and that alone gets the three stars. It would be one star without them. Small free parking lot out front. But there are some other lots nearby that you can use at night if it's too crowded in front of the restaurant. Restrooms inside are small and not very private or clean. Separate for men and women. Service is hit or miss with the wait staff. The real issue I have here is the food quality is just not great. My girlfriend likes the burgers here so we do go occasionally. The rest of our group was served and ate before our food came out. they kept bringing out food that was the same thing that we ordered and giving it to other tables. said it would take 5 minutes. then they 15 to 20 and we've been waiting now for over 45 minutes and are still waiting. The food is ok the service is terrible. I call all the time and the bartender never answers the phone. A lot of the time I go down and sit at the bar order a beer and order your to go order there. I have seen him pick up the phone and leave it off the hook and say no way I'm too busy pouring just beer like a "real" bartender. Tonight he told me after not answering the phone. you better order 10 beers because it is going to over an hour for food. There were 8 open tables I'm confused. So I went to O'Micheals, wait same parking lot, and ordered food and got better beer in 25 min. Honestly similar quality food but highlands beer isn't something to write home about. read more

Highlands Hollow offers awesome beer and pub grub in a cozy environment. I live in the north end, so I truly don't know why it has taken me so long to make my way to Highlands Hollow. However, a couple weeks ago, upon attending the Hoptober Freshtival, where Highlands Hollow was in attendance sampling beers, I tried their ginger wheat and knew I had to visit them asap! That visit materialized soon enough as a couple of friends and I arranged to meet there on a weekday afternoon for lunch. Upon entering, I immediately loved the vibe. It's casual cozy cool, with dark wood open beams, and an amazing round, open fireplace in the center of the dining area. Obviously, due to the location, this is a hot spot for skiers/boarders as they descend the mountain from a day on the slopes at Bogus--but the cozy atmosphere has got to be part at least part of the appeal. I ordered the ginger wheat that I'd enjoyed at the Hoptober Freshtival, which was once again delish. One of my dining companions and I split their tuna melt, which was solid and easily split given the ample pile of fries they provide on the side. The tuna melt itself wasn't spectacular (though the cheese was indeed melted, the tuna itself was oddly cold, which was a little off putting). The fries are on the skinnier side (not as skinny as shoe string--but nearly). The price were definitely reasonable. Prior to tip, my half a tuna melt, tons of fries, and beer came in under 8 bucks. The service was prompt and attentive. Overall, I was lured by the beer, encouraged by the reasonable prices, and sold by the atmosphere. And, though, the tuna melt didn't rock my socks--they have a relatively large menu that I'm looking forward to exploring to see if I can't find my go-to dish! Get to it! read more
