What a great store and deli! The owner was very informative and so helpful. He explained all of his house made products in a tutorial and had out many generous sized samples. There are so many great things here! We actually came in for lunch. The husband is alway in search of a good Ruben sandwich. Not only was this a huge sandwich but it was one of the best he's ever had. Rubens are ok in my book but I usually don't order them. I had a bite of his and will definitely get this next time. The sandwiches can easily feed 2 people for lunch. I had the German meat loaf sandwich and it was so good. The thick cuts of meat with the veggies equals the best bite. Great store for sausages made with love!! The owners immigrated here decades ago from Austria and opened this gem of a European deli. You walk in, be greeted with hello from the owners. Some times the daughter is helping. Sausages are made from scratch on Sunday and Mondays. Every type you'd like. Especially the German specialty sausages. Oh there's ALWAYS a sample on the deli counter...they insist. Fresh baked bread too. The Reuben sandwich with the hot German potato salad is as close to a perfect lunch I can imagine. One of the best Reubens in the south of Idaho. The Romanian owners are loud and entertaining, if not a bit gruff. It adds to the charm of their efforts to make this a very unique market and diner. Thin-skinned snowflakes need to stay in their safe places and not come here. I never leave without their Weisswurst for home. The meat samples are always out for customers to try the sausages before selecting which to buy. Can't decide? Get the sampler pack. I tried the house special lamb sausage. Great stuff. I was looking for a specific kind and ask ed the lady on the phone she replied " we no have" I then asked her if she had any kind of German ham and she replied again we know have. Then she said again we have no what else you need? I felt very hurried and I felt like she was really rude. I told her I didn't think that she was very nice or helpful and that I would leave her a review she deserved. We were so happy we chose to stop here for lunch while passing through Nampa. The owners, husband and wife, are passionate about their food and were so friendly. The moment we entered the store, he greeted us and offered a variety of sausage and jerky samples. He said he hand makes the sausages, so they're the real deal and don't contain any fillers. We decided to order a Reuben sandwich and sausage plate with German potato salad. We browsed the wide variety of German fresh baked bread, sausages, and German grocery items while we waited about 10 minutes. They have a few tables inside to eat, but we decided to take it to a nearby park. The Reuben was nicely toasted and contained a good portion of corned beef. I normally don't like sauerkraut, but it was pretty mild so I could eat it all! My boyfriend enjoyed his sausage plate. Our favorite was the bratwurst. Also, the potato salad was soo good. In example of water seeking its' own level, we learned about the sausage made here from the owner of Neighbor Tim's, a top-notch bbq biz in Boise, when we asked from where he sourced the delicious German sausages in his line up.  Tim told us he drove to this Nampa business every week to pick up the freshly made sausages to use.  So we made the pilgrimage ourselves to find this business that is owned by a Romanian immigrant couple, he the butcher for a big array of sausages and some other house made meat products (as in he even makes head cheese) and she the baker for all kinds of goodies as well as cook for items sold at the German Food counter in the back for dine in or take out including sauerkraut, German potato salad, red cabbage and other delights.  Apparently the trajectory is that they first settled in the Portland Oregon area buying a German sausage company there and when they wanted to move to Idaho to be nearer to family members they brought the business with them.   PRIDE OF OWNERSHIP IN A TRUE MOM N POP STORE: In the sparkling space you will find quality products made in house for smoked sausages and fresh, as well as quality deli products they bring in (liverwurst, anyone), all kinds of cheeses, a fun bakery case (if they have in the case a small cake like dessert item called Romanian Peach try that), and all kinds of European imported specialty items and including at this holiday time of year a number of German treats associated with the Christmas holiday that friends of ours who were German immigrants gave to us every single Christmas during their lifetimes.  It tugs at our heartstrings to see the boxes of lebkuchen, boxes of liquor filled chocolates and assortment of marzipan, including pink marzipan pigs which in German tradition are gifted between Christmas and New Year's Day to herald in good luck for the coming year. We bring home not only sausages and the German deli salads and cheese, but jars of lingonberry and other preserves, candies and all sorts of fun things. CUSTOMER SERVICE: The wife owners' command of English is substantially better than my knowledge of Romanian, although my Ukranian sister-in-law speaks it, and I appreciate how patient she, who does most of the customer service interface, is with me when language challenges arise.  They offer lots of samples from the deli case and encourage you to try their products.  And maybe the best way to get a sense of the layout of this business and the charming pride of ownership is to watch this video done by a local woman in interviewing the wife owner and taking a "tour" of the store.  I will insert the URL here. EAT IN OR TAKE AWAY:  There are a couple of tables inside, seating maybe 8 or 10 total, and you can order ready to eat food at the counter in the back, which is labeled 'German Food - Order Here' on a big sign overhead, to eat there or take away.  We choose sausages, once on bun but I have recently been forced to go GF, alas, and sides and everything has been delicious. The owner also makes cabbage rolls, the real kind, and I think she has those available to order in advance. PARKING:  The parking on the busy main Nampa thoroughfare is a take your life in your hands situatio if you're exiting on the passenger side to go into the store.  You think I'm kidding.  But no, really.  There is parking in the back of the store. ACCESSIBILITY:  IF you can get from parking into the door, all is accessible inside for ample aisle space for shoppers using wheelchairs.  But finding accessible parking and getting in the door is a challenge.  That is the City's problem and not the owners'. Shame on Nampa for this ongoing problem almost 33 years after ADA was passed with clear rules for parking. THEY PROCESS GAME: There are a lot of hunters in Boise's Treasure Valley and I understand that this butcher will process certain kinds of game for hunters who bring it in. Our experience was two years ago and I'm only posting this because I saw that someone posted they were overcharged here followed by several other customers claiming the same. We were excited to come here then but afterwards when I received my bank statement I saw there were two charges on my statement for them and it wasn't a small amount like a gratuity. Both charges were around $60 but not the exact amount. So after trying to wrap my head around what happened. Did they accidentally hit a key twice (no because the amounts were different). Did the people in front of us card not go through? (Possibly???). So I called my bank to see if they could fix it, they said I needed to call the shop first. When I called the lady who checked us out answered the phone. I tried to explain what happened, I wasn't upset I was still thinking that it was an error with the people in front of us maybe not being charged and it ended up on our card twice??? I don't know, I was just trying to give the benefit of the doubt. The lady started yelling at me saying that I was trying to scam her and that she was just an old lady who would never do that. Again I said I didn't think it was intentional and I was still polite even though I was being yelled at and called a scammer. I tried to explain that I had my bank statement and I could come down there and show her so she could see I was scamming her hoping that would clear it up. She said they were closed that day and if I needed anything I would need to talk to her son. I called my bank back and explained the situation and they took care of it. That is my experience, if you want to know other people's experiences read the reviews on all the review sites. In spite of this the food is good, my recommendation to anyone coming here bring cash. First time shopper and last time shopper at the Old Country Sausage in Nampa. I purchased $20 worth of Beef Jerky. As you can see in my photo, they do not cut off the fat before or after smoking. Common, I didn't buy Beef Jerky to eat smoked fat. To me, that's the very first thing you do. Cut off the fat before or after, but you sure don't leave it on. I'm having to cut all of the gross fat off myself. I too smoke my own meats at home. This is one of those reminders to just smoke my own Jerky. I got lazy and thought I'd stop by this butcher shop and try their Beef Jerky instead. Take my advice, keep looking for another butcher in town for GOOD Beef Jerky because this place sure butchered the Beef Jerky I just bought. $20 down the drain. Found the source for these great sausages, made locally and ever so diverse and delicious. It is the best Deli in the area for European groceries and especially locally baked goods too. We bought a half dozen type of sausages, ham hocks, and condiments. We would have bought some of their wonderful looking German Potato salad and cheeses, but that is for future trips. The owners and help are very friendly and approachable. They are proud to tell you what they make themselves and what is imported by them. They do serve food with a few tables available and contrary to Yelp's site, they will serve it as take out. You might note that the email that is listed in the Yelp site is an old one and you may want to call their phone number to ask questions.Also, the web site listed here is not good either. I would put their email on this post, but I would feel better to let them arrange that. If you are going the first time, familiarize yourself with the weird way Nampa labels their numbered streets. Did you know that there is a 2nd Street, N and a 2nd Street, S? I didn't, and with one way streets it is somewhat of a pain to get around. Also, Nampa has some of the worst intersections for blind spots I have ever seen. So be prepared. read more

We wanted to love this place. We've lived in Nampa for a few years and drive by this daily. We stopped in and the owner told us she was in the back making sausages. We looked at everything and eventually told her we would like some sausage. My husband picked out 3 different ones and she first told us she packaged them all together. We asked if she could package them separately so he knows which is which. She threw them down and told us she doesn't have time. We asked again and she did. She wrapped them then threw them down again. She then told us they are closed Mondays even though the open sign was lit up and there was another open sign plus the door was open. BUSINESS OWNER ADDED A 25% "TIP" TO OUR MERCHANDISE PURCHASES WITHOUT AUTHORIZATION. Always get a receipt from this business owner! We would NEVER do business with her again. Myself and two other women went to visit the Old Country Sausage store in NAMPA, ID in the afternoon of Thursday, May 10, 2024. We each made purchases for pre-packaged, imported foods, such as German cookies and chocolates. As we checked out at the register, the owner, Lydia, asked each of us if we wanted a receipt. Each one of us declined. At that point, she would flip her computer screen around, add a 25% tip to our totals WITHOUT our knowledge or our approval. I was the last to check out and thought I saw her hitting the TIP button, and I asked her specifically, "did you just add a tip to my total?" She immediately and nervously responded, "No, I did not" I said, "it appeared that you hit the TIP button, and I did not authorize a tip." She became irritated and responded, "I do not understand technology, and besides, I cannot check anything until the end of the day". She was not at all interested in resolving my concern, but her behaviors were very suspicious as she quickly became very defensive and escalated in her response to me. The three of us each checked our bank accounts later, and initially, each of the original charges showed up as "pending". BUT...the next day, May 11th when each of us checked our accounts again, the original purchase amounts had gone UP by 25% due to the unauthorized "tips" going through. Total theft! Another person who lives in Nampa, made a post regarding the tip-theft situation on the Facebook page, "Nampa Neighbors Connect." In this post, she stated the same thing had happened to her, and immediately other local people began to post that the very same had happened to them! Also complaints came in that the owner covers food expiration dates with price tags so that customers do not see them, and that some foods can be two or three years past the expiration date. I filed a complaint with the Idaho Consumer Protection Division Office of the Attorney General, as well as a fraud dispute with my bank today regarding this theft. I would like to do what I can't prevent other people from being overcharged. read more

Love this authentic German Deli! My husband and I have been wanting to try here for a while and they certainly didn't disappoint. From the food to the customer service, we had a great experience overall! I ordered the sausage plate special with the bratwurst and Hungarian sausage (buns were extra charge). It came with coleslaw and German potato salad. I loved everything on the plate. The sausages were juicy and delicious and knowing that they were housemade made it that much better. The sides were also really good and they were served hot, which reminded me of eating corned beef and cabbage. My husband ordered the Reuben with a side of coleslaw and German paprika chips. The marbled rye was perfectly toasted and there was a generous amount of corned beef. The coleslaw was surprisingly one of my favorite sides (who knew Germans made amazing coleslaw too?). It was creamy without being to rich and had the perfect amount of sweetness. The paprika chips are crazy addicting! The flavor pretty much tastes like bbq, but unlike American chips they are light and not as greasy. We did have to wait for a bit longer than usual because the grill was accidentally turned off, but the owners were so nice and there are so many cool things to look at in the store that we didn't mind. Wanted to try all sausages so I got a sampler for $21 in a vacuum packed bag. When I got home I noticed the smell was not right and the taste was off. I tried a bit of the others and they all smelled and tasted odd so I wrote to the owner saying the sausages were not good and I could return them for them to inspect.
