Never again! Let me start this review by saying that Dauterman USED to be our go-to store for mobility aids. We've purchased walkers, trays, canes, and various other mobility accessories over the years. But I will be taking my business elsewhere. Unfortunately, we had an incident where a wheel on a rollator (one of those folding walkers that has a built in seat) came off. I brought the rollator, wheel, and other pieces into Dauterman hoping to get some assistance - Can it be fixed? How long would that take and how much? Should it be fixed or should we buy a new rollator? I was 100% ready to buy a new one, but I wanted to get some info. Too bad the gentleman who was there was unfriendly and unhelpful and became quite rude. He was watching something on his phone the whole time I was trying to talk to him. He couldn't tell me if the technician would be in this Friday or next Friday. After filling out the technician form I asked for a bag for the loose wheel, bolt, etc. He said that he didn't have a bag. I told him that I was concerned that pieces might get lost by the time the technician came in. I told him that I'd appreciate it if he could stop looking at his phone long enough to grab a bag for me - he grabs a paper bag and pretty much throws it at me. He then suggests that I could take the rollator somewhere else. I told him that I didn't want to be accused of not providing all the pieces because he's too busy playing on his phone. He then told me to take my business somewhere else and ripped up the form that I filled out. Some additional colorful words were exchanged and I left. Like I said, Dauterman used to be our go-to store. I'd like to buy local, so I'll be checking out other mobility supply stores. Otherwise I'll just order things off Amazon. read more

If you are looking for anything to help in home safety, taking care of someone, or safe mobility aids, this is THE place to come!!!! I injured my knee and that has markedly stopped me from doing anything except sit around or walk a little. My life was planned around how far things were, if it was too far, I stopped going. I decided I wanted to continue to do more things to enjoy life so decided to get a mobility scooter. I went to a few places but Dautermans has a very large showroom so I got to see the different scooters that were available and was even able to test drive it around the store. Liane was so patient, helpful and answered all my questions and demonstrated how the scooter broke down into pieces to put into the car. When I had decided on the brand of scooter, I still was unsure which size battery to get, Randy {the owner} was so easy to talk to and patiently answered all my MANY questions so I could get the best scooter for my needs. If this wasnt enough, we have dropped by a couple times when we were having a hard time getting the back wheels attached, Liane was there again and was able to give us cues and tips that helped us. Then another time, we were having a hard time getting the basket attached, Randy was able to figure out the lower metal support was slightly bent in {possibly from us bumping into something}, he quickly readjusted the metal and now the baskets slip in again. It was wonderful because no matter how hard we tried to put it in, it just wouldnt. I have homecare experience so realize how hard it is to find the right equipment and trying to find things that will make life easier, it is a daunting task, I think Dautermans is the best resource as they have the largest display and available equipment in store that you can see and try. LIane and Randy will also provide the best expert advise and guidance for your needs. They may even show you something you wouldnt have thought of to help you. They do not try to sell you anything and the prices are fair. What more could you ask. Its like having a trusted mechanic or family doctor to help you. They are located in the lot next to Fukuya and just past the Post Office. there is always lots of parking. I10% recommend. You wont regret it, stop by and see all the things they have, youll be amazed. read more

Wesley K., This business practices deceptive practices. They do not quote prices before performing services on scooters. Instead, Randy, the owner, will tell you to come in without being upfront about pricing and then overcharge you when you don't buy something. This is very deceptive and illegal. He will apologize, yet still charge you. His business must really be doing poorly and now I know why. His employee, Blaine, who sits at the counter is extremely RUDE and needs to be "educated" on CUSTOMER SERVICE. I have been a repeat customer in the past with good experiences until I met Randy and Blaine on 12/26,25. I will never patronize this store again. Please be very careful if you decide to visit this store!!!! After some research, I also discovered that that they are not rated by at the Better Business Bureau, a big RED FLAG. :( They do not deserve even one star based on how they treated me today, 12/26,25. My husband is unable to walk right now. I've been using a push wheelchair, which is taking its toll on me. we were just window shopping for possibly getting a mobility scooter. We went here and Randy was so wonderful. He went through every scooter and mobility option for us. let us try everything. thoroughly explained everything, very patient and understanding of our needs. After all that we wanted to sleep on it. the next day we went to other places on the island to look for comparison, but came back here because the service was so good. Dauterman Healthcare and Mobility is located in a very small shopping center where Bangkok Chef is. Take a left into the driveway on King Street and just head straight in. Dauterman is all the way in the back of the shopping center. I visited it yesterday to look at the mobility scooters, as I the one I have is a 4-wheel mobility scooter made by Walmart under their Equate brand. I've been thinking of getting a 3-wheel mobility scooter for ease of use while taking the bus and shopping. Upon entering the store, I was kindly greeted by a lady, unfortunately I did not get her name. They were very busy answering phone calls from other customers. I did not ask them for help as I just wanted to look at the mobility scooters. Compared to Gammie Home Care in Pearl Ridge, Dauterman has two brands of mobility scooters they had in stock. Which were Pride and Golden Technology mobility scooters. In terms of pricing for them, since we are in Hawaii. I was honestly surprised they were "affordable" in the sense of them not being too pricy. Most of the mobility scooters were in the 2K to 3K range from what I could see. They also did have other healthcare related items like walkers, rollators, hygiene products. Let me start by saying that I'm handicap and due to certain things with the arteries they removed above and below my knees for my open heart surgery I've had difficulties walking since then. I'm saying this so you understand how important the products that they carry are to me. I'm reminded you get what you pay for and while the Four Wheel Rollator with Seat is a little bit on the pricier side I had my heart set on it the moment I saw it being used by someone else at the Honolulu Festival who told my wife that he had it over 10 years. It's quite a solid item that is well crafted and allows for a lot of adjustment to perfectly suite me. They have one of the largest selection of rollators and electric scooters that I've seen in Hawaii. read more

Lol another reason not to believe everything you read. Honestly if you grow up in Hawaii that's just how local people talk. I called to see if they had some supplies I was looking for my grandpa. I called first to check talked with Joyce and she confirmed with what I was looking for. I didn't find her rude at all, reminds me of my family. Went down and seen that they take sanitization very seriously, as they should! So sorry anti maskers/ and oddly people that don't want to sanitize their hands ? This place take sanitization seriously. Signs are posted in the front as well as a complementary sanitization placement in the front. Which I really appreciate. This place SUCKS as far as customer service goes! As soon as I entered their store an employee said "wash your hands" n I said wot? "Wash your hands"n pointed to a liquid dispenser near the door. OK. I sanitized my hands n turned around n the guy was gone! Disappeared! I surveyed the place by standing near the liquid dispenser n saw a woman employee in the middle of the store. I looked at her n she looked at me n I turned to look at section I was interested in n walked toward it. I couldn't find what I was looking for so I started to look for the woman employee. Lo n behold! She was nowhere to be found! This is a BIG store with lots of merchandise n it would be nice if someone approached customers n asked them if they needed help finding anything. The only person I found on the floor was a guy with his nose buried on a computer who didn't even see me standing in front of him. Go elsewhere. Went to purchase compression stockings for a relative in a care home, but it was the wrong one, so went to return it. The box had never been opened, but could not return it, not even for credit. At $50 each, now stuck with a brand new pair of stockings. To top it off, the workers were not helpful, or friendly. I read the reviews and was skeptical on visiting this business. When I walked in I was so surprised how many items and how large their selection was. I came inn to purchase wheel chair and that was it. They were so helpful, courteous and pleasant. I would recommend this store to my friends and family. Anything you need is probably here. Yes if u are looking to save a penny maybe u should go on line but if you want to support local and need it right away this is your go to store. I walked out with 1 wheel chair 1 solid table for eTing on that rises up and down so smoothly 3 aprons and I'll be back for more goodies soon. My family and I started buying supplies at Dauterman Medical since my father's laryngectomy due to throat cancer. The workers are always helpful and friendly, I'm quite surprised reading the earlier reviews that had given 1-2 stars and stating the service pretty much sucked. Every time we've gone to Dauterman, we have never had a bad experience nor have we had any negative thing to say about the service. If they didn't have the supply we needed, they would check for us if they could order it and let us know by when it would come in. read more

This place do not even deservce a one star. They are the only two people who will help you. The way they talk to their customer on the phone is rude. I called in to pick up some Wound supplies for my mother and spoke with a guy name Blake or Blaine whatever. He was very rude over the phone like he was scolding me and even Hung up on me twice. I have a little bit of an hearing problem and to be treated like this from a place that suppose to help people is just unacceptable. "DO NOT GO TO DAUTERMAN-TAKE YOUR BUSINESS ELSEWHERE"- they are very rude and unprofessional. I have been purchasing from Dauterman's for the past 40 years. I find that they are courteous, efficient, and very knowledgeable about the products. I have researched many other medical supply establishments and have found that Dauterman's is still my preferred choice. Upon occasion, their prices may be a tad higher. However their quality is exceptional. You get, for what you pay. I have purchased everything from Walker's to scooters from them. I am now looking for two new scooters for my uncles. Worst experience ever. Bought a raised toilet seat for my 97-year-old 5 foot tall Mom who suffered a fall on Oct. 3. The 5-inch seat was too high. She sat on it once, fully-clothed and realize her feet didn't touch the floor. Dauterman would not take it back in exchange for the 3 inch high seat. No offer to credit us for the purchase. The bath bar installer happened to be present and overheard the conversation. Over the years he had purchased thousands of grab bars and when the store was sold to the new owners, they discontinued carrying grab bars! The physical therapist was also present and when she heard our conversation, she said her company would stop recommending Dauterman as one of its vendors. We need more equipment to make it safe for our Mom but we would not recommend them and not deal with them again. Poor customer relations! read more

Although we didn't find exactly what we were looking for (compact folding travel walker for seniors) staff did suggest going to Don Quijote, where we actually found one. What co is so helpful they direct you to competitors? Still, they've won our business for the other products they do stock. I recommend them. read more

02/04/2015 This place was recommended by someone I met that is also in a wheelchair. Problems ... needed two parts for my electric wheelchair ... a front wheel, and a fuse holder. Both of which I could deal with replacing myself, if I had the parts. Anyhoots ... I went to this store and I was completely shocked! I was treated horribly. As though I had some nerve bothering them. They went to every excuse they could grab to get rid of me. I didn't buy the wheelchair from them ... so these two women announced ... "then you need to go to the place you bought it from!" Umm ... I bought it in California, we're in Hawaii! Then they said they had no idea where to find the parts I needed ... so they could not help me. Basically ... these two women looked at me like I was squished snail on the sidewalk! Don't bother going here for help ... unless you are looking to buy a new scooter/wheelchair ... anything else will make you want to get out of there as quickly as possible, because they have no idea what they're doing, and the repair guy only comes to the store on Saturday! You have to make an appointment to see him. Frankly, it is about time I looked thinking about buying a new wheelchair ... guess where I won't be buying it?! read more

We were afraid we could not replace a wheel on my husband's walker, as no store carried that brand of walker, and apparently wheels are specific to their brands. The gentleman at Dauterman, Randy, actually fixed the existing wheel with new bearings, instead. He not only saved us a lot of money, He also saved our Hawaiian holiday. Randy devoted himself to determining and repairing the fault in my 92 year-old mother's mobility scooter that is her only means of getting out of her apt. Despite confounding difficulties analyzing the problem, he found the fault that even the Pride Scooter distributor tech was unable to help uncover. He went so far as to disassemble and trade out parts of other similar scooters on the showroom floor so that a repair could be accomplished in one visit rather than wait days or weeks for parts to come in from the Mainland. On oxygen 24/7, and easily winded....it is nearly impossible for our 88 year old Mom to walk more than a few steps, so she relies on her electric scooter as a portion of her daily life support. Randy was a lifesaver for Mom, Again!!!!! Just yesterday!!! Her scooter wouldn't charge. He helped get her scooter repaired, and back to her the same day.... in time be able to join her friends for supper in the dining room at Hawaii Kai Retirement Center. So...I just needed to extend a word of thanks...Mom is elated, and we are most appreciative of all the support Dauterman provides!!!! A few months ago, her 20+ year old wheel chair broke. So just buy a new one!!!!....Well,not so easy. Mom has a sentimental attachment to this chair because it used to belong to a relative. So she wanted this one fixed. Randy looked over the situation, shook his head, and then proceeded to do extensive research until he actually found the parts needed..parts that hadn't been made in years!!! Mom was elated then also. As one gets older, it's always quality of life that you work to provide, and Dautermans is proactively helping us to provide that for Mom. read more

On my first day of arrival, Dauterman's was on a commercial but little did I know I would be going to their store. My travel scooter had problems with the new battery case my dealer gave me. It turns out that the case had a blown fuse so it did not charge the batteries the whole time I was on vacation. Jess did her best to help but she was not the stores tech support. When we determined the problem, with Jess's help, she gave us a free fuse. I will now travel with a complete set of fuses, a few screwdrivers and the owner's manual. Unable to walk, these days I get around using a spiffy mobility scooter. But it broke down recently. I called Dauterman, Healthcare & Mobility on South King, and Randy its owner had his repair guy, Ron, out to my home within an hour. I was skeptical of his skills, but no need. In a short time, Ron had my scooter completely apart, looking with professional skill for the problem. The rare culprit part had to be ordered from the east coast. No problem thought Randy, he scavenged the needed part from one of his in-store, new display models. Much to my relief and delight, I was back on the road in 24 hours, good as new! Do not buy from this place. I purchased a toilet support bar for my father. The salesperson assured me that it was a standard fit. I took it home and guess what...it didn't fit. Not even close. And it's not returnable. They don't know their products and their policies are ridiculous. read more
