The BEST quick, fresh lunch around. Try the cucumbers ...if they haven't run out--!

I love going to Eat The Streets 757 food truck events, plus their lunchtime and brewery events…read more Love the variety of trucks they bring out.

So, this is a preliminary review based on my experience at today's inaugural food truck rally here…read morein the Hampton Roads. For this, I'll be departing from my normal style of writing to write an educated and informal post in hopes that the truckers will read this and make amends for the next gathering. Before the actual review, I'd like to thank WHRO for graciously hosting the event. Onto the business end of the stick... I showed up at 1:40PM, an hour and forty minutes after the event started. When I got there I went in what appeared to be the shortest line, which was for Norfolk Ramen (NR). In line I asked the person in front of me how long they had been waiting and they said for 15 minutes so far and that there was a second line to wait in to get your food. Still I waited, and waited, and waited. 25 minutes later I heard that NR ran out of the item I was interested in. No bueno mi compadre. I decided to go for another line; this time it was Stuft. A friend of mine who had already gotten food from them said the wait was only around 35 min and the tacos were pretty decent. 25 minutes into this wait Stuft called the line off and said they had ran out of food. ¡Que verracos pasa! At this point I was pissed, so I left. I not only worked in the gourmet food truck circles, but have also visited the various circles across the country. My experience was horrible and I know that I am not alone because the two girls that were behind me also left the NR line to go to the line for Stuft. This is unacceptable. What it is reflective of is very poor preparation. Did anyone think to call the plethora of great trucks from the food truck rallies/farmers markets from around the country for expertise? Not only have they been doing this for a while, handle greater volume, have more expansive menus, and do it all with wait times in the range of 5 to 10 minutes. I already know the answer to the question is no. There are a lot of people kissing your collective arses at the moment, because the majority of them do not know any better which is a shame in itself. Excuses like you didn't know people were going to show, it's hard working in those trucks, etc. You saw the RSVPs on FB, you new of the collective noise in the HR area via the various media/online outlets, and it's cramped but there benefits to working in the truck as well. So, I guess I will be the critic in the crowd and call for results. If you want to successfully join the culinary movement sweeping across the States, then simply do better. Have enough food for the crowds, have enough staff to assist, and do the prep work necessary to punch down wait times. Why this isn't a one star review is because of the location (good), the idea (also good), and from what I saw of the food (it looked good). Suggestions for the venue organizers... Maybe have an on-site portable ATM and invite a craft beer truck. I'll update this review after attending the next rally.

They were pretty busy but we were able to park. It was seat yourself so we picked a high top near the window. It took a moment for someone to get to us but our server was kind and helpful. We got the bulgogi cheesesteak egg rolls (6 pieces). They are always a big hit. It's a large appetizer so definitely shareable for a group. We then tried the Asian Zing wings and their ranch. Both are amazing. The wings were sauced really well and weren't too spicy but had plenty of flavor. The ranch was AMAZING. My boyfriend got the chicken bacon pineapple burrito bowl and had plenty of food. He said it was balanced "yummy". Finally, I got the sweet-n-salty jerk chicken taco and a pew pew shrimp taco. The jerk chicken had a bit more spice than I like to it and not enough of the pineapple to cut it. The pew pew taco was two large shrimp which I ended up eating with a fork because the taco was too full to get a bite of everything. Overall everything was really good. Whoever was on the chive station cut them too big and was a little heavy handed. Overall, great food & a good atmosphere (if you're ok with sports on the TV and an eclectic playlist)! They have a stage for live music and it looked like a game room. Will have to check that out next time!

I AM SUCH A FAN OF CHESAPEAKE TEA CO.!!!…read more I found them as one of the vendors that was at a little open-air market in Solomons Island, and I am so glad that I was able to check them out! They had a modest drink menu of iced beverages, as well as bagged tea blends and tea accessories (reusable tea bags, tea infuser ball, etc.). I was able to try the Barbie, which was a rose petal, jasmine leaf, dried pineapple, and dried strawberry blend - this was naturally sweetened and was such a delicious drink! It was super refreshing, and I wished that they sold gallons of these, as I would have just stocked up. HA! Service was super welcoming and friendly, and you can tell that the husband-and-wife team is passionate about tea and their products! Chesapeake Tea Co. does not have a brick-and-mortar, but they do make appearances at local events and have an online shop where you can order their local, organic, and herbal loose tea varieties. Definitely a wonderful local small business to support - you won't regret it! +delicious tea blends! +try their 'Barbie' iced drink! +friendly service! +online ordering available +find them at local events!
