I recently celebrated my Dad's 82nd birthday here and had a great time! This is definitely giving old school steakhouse vibes and offers all the classics while also offering modern options for the LA eater. Oyster Shooters - 2 stars. I've had oyster shooters before and loved them but didn't like their take on it here. Way too much horseradish and the vodka portion was way off (too little vodka) and unbalanced. Oysters Rockefeller - 4 1/2 stars. Quite meaty and delicious, such a great flavor and take on this classic dish. Crab Cake - 4 stars. Quite the large portion, and quite good! Miso Chilean Seabass - 5 stars. This was excellent! It was cooked perfectly with a delicious miso sauce, served with a tasty jasmine rice and steamed spinach. Short Rib w mashed potatoes - 5 stars. No notes! The meat was soft, tender, and rich and flavor and the potatoes were also excellent. Our waitress (who was fabulous) brought out an ice cream Sunday to celebrate the birthday occasion and I have to say it was also fabulous! It was an old school brownie sunday with gobs of delicious hot fudge and sprinkles and an item I would definitely order upon my next visit. I didn't realize they had a complimentary parking lot in the back, that's a huge bonus. Would definitely come back here for a special occasion, this spot is solid! read more

Was in the area the other day so we decided to stop by for a late lunch about 45 minutes before they closed for the afternoon. We were able to walk right in and grab a table as the afternoon rush was over. First, it is a cute restaurant with nice ambiance inside. You can also eat outside it looked like, but it was hot so that was not going to be an option. Started with the mini crab cakes and the tuna on crispy rice. The crab cakes had a good amount of crab in them, which was really nice, but they definitely tasted under seasoned. The tuna on crispy rice was great though, topped with avocado and a spicy mayo. Nice crispiness on the outside, soft rice in the middle, good flavor, just a nice bite. For entrees we tried the chimichuri steak sandwich, the French dip and the lobster roll. The lobster roll looks the part but was light on the actual lobster, in our opinions. Felt the bread to everything else ratio was really off, so it feels like mostly bread with some lobster here and there. The chimichuri steak sandwich comes with arugula, gruyere, roasted peppers and grilled shallots and was a decent bite but not overly memorable. The French dip, on the other hand, was really tasty with that au jus and melted cheese. That was the real winner. Overall, nice ambiance, drinks were decent, some misses and some hits. If you go, definitely get the French dip and the tuna of sticky rice, slip that liner roll and the mini crab cakes and up to you on the chimichuri steak sandwich. read more

This place became one of our fave places to eat in the Valley, from the first time we visited. Almost everything we had was above par ( we weren't fans of a rather bland salmon appetizer ). The famed lobster appetizer was not for us. Bits of lobster floating in a lot of butter didn't excite us. Excellent salads. The other appetizers however, were excellent. We've been twice now had had a lot of their menu. The pork was outstanding. The rack was very good, but I've had even better racks elsewhere. The "famous" banana cream pie was good, not great, but so huge and rich it must be shared. At $30, it's maybe also a tad overpriced. The bar makes a healthy-sized martini that's worth its high-end price tag. Great wine list with wonderful advice and good-sized sample pours, even though I only drink one glass and my husband doesn't drink at all. This is a good place to splurge on a good wine. I've mentioned the above-par service. Informative and cheery, without trying to become your best friend. They went out of their way to assure us a table in a very quiet spot, due to my deafness. Very attentive without being overbearing. Their suggestions seem honest, rather than just trying to upsell everything. The place is huge and gorgeous. Flatteringly, if dimly, lit, it lends itself to romantic dinners and anniversaries. In our case, we like to have a rather luxurious and romantic and lengthy meal perhaps once a month, and feel very fortunate to be able to do so. It's divided into several smallish areas and the effect is rather cozy and intimate. It's chic and stylish, so PLEASE folks, dress for it? It especially saddens me to see a nicely dressed young woman, who obviously spent some time on herself beforehand, with a guy ( I'll guess her husband ), in shorts and a tee shirt. I say, for a place like this, where you could easily spend four bills on a good meal for two, with drinks, management, bring back a dress policy! And enforce it with a reminder email they you do so. Decided to meet a girlfriend for drinks and food here, and we had a great time. Davenport's is classy typical steakhouse interior with white tablecloths kinda vibe and I was feeling it. With no reservations, we were seated within few minutes upon arrival to the restaurant and I as grateful for that. Our waitress was attentive and I regret no remembering her name for this review (she worked Tuesday night on 3/31/26, if that helps management when they read this). Davenport's recently started opening up for lunch and let me just say that the menu choices AND the food are every bit as enjoyable as the items on the dinner menu (with plenty of never-before-offered lunch options). I had the prime rib French dip sandwich, and I can say in all honesty that it may have been the BEST sandwich I've ever had (ask for grilled onions on it - you'll thank me). The meat was tender and perfectly seasoned/cooked and topped with Gruyere and whipped horseradish on a seeded baguette, it was heavenly. My friend had the turkey club, which is DEFINITELY not your grandmother's club sandwich. Beautifully grilled turkey breast, crisp bacon, tomato and lettuce, also served on a baguette. Nice side choices include fries or salad (the Caesar salad was perfect), and I can't wait to go back and try some of the other lunch menu options soon! It's been so long since I last popped into this restaurant. This particular visit was a night cap after dinner elsewhere. First off, I didn't even know that the bar area has its own entrance...lol... I'm used to the main entrance where it's also the patio seating. We walked in off of Ventura Blvd which is where we saw the bar entrance. It was pretty busy Saturday night but we were able to utilize a section for four of us. A gentleman was gracious enough to move to a corner seat which gave us enough seating for the four of us. As we already had dinner prior, it was for cocktails. Staff and bartenders were all very sweet and friendly. After sitting down and starting off with some water, I noticed that a lot of the guest seemed to be regulars. It's like they all knew each other. Drink menu obviously was quite nice. The cocktails and wine menu were excellent. It's a full bar so whatever you like, I'm sure they could make it. There was also beer on tap. Between the four of us it was a mixture of everything. Wine, cocktails, beer and whiskey. Everything was great. The vibe was nice at the bar. As it was close to closing time, restaurants inside was starting to die down. Overall, the service was great. We walked in and was served right away. Staff and everyone there was sweet and friendly. As well as the guest. I've been for food prior which was excellent. Wonderful news Davenport's is now open for lunch! The new lunch menu is absolutely delicious. My favorites are the Sunrise BLTA with perfectly fried eggs, crispy bacon, fresh tomato, lettuce, and creamy avocado, and the Lobster Roll, filled with tender butter-poached lobster, crisp celery, lettuce, and a flavorful remoulade. Every bite was fresh and melt-in-your-mouth delicious. Great food, wonderful service, and a fantastic atmosphere. I can't wait to come back for lunch again. read more

Davenport seems like a new 21st century iteration of the classic, mid 20th century original Dal Rae in Pico Rivera. It has the traditional, theatrical, American version of swanky, "I have arrived", perky yet nominally understated confidence. There is limited street parking on Ventura where you may enter into the bar entrance, but the "grand entrance" is in back by entering the gated packing lot. Fear not, Davenport validates the entire fee if dining in. Call for parking info if take out. We were a party of 10 so had the center stage table in the large dining room with a floor to ceiling background wall with large floral and wine bottle display. 1) Oysters Rockefeller: Six plush, smooth, soft, creamy, baked humongous oysters with a soupçon of sea minerality. They're topped with anise-infused, perhaps Pernod, moist, suave spinach & Sauce Béarnaise which is also creamy, slightly acidic, subtle tarragon scented. Extremely sumptuous, satisfying dish. This may be their signature dish. Generous in portion to the point of being a full meal for a small eater, and could compete with the best in New Orleans. Great deal at $32. 2) Supposedly Davenport's signature dish. Lobster Bites seem like butter-poached, firm, yet touch fibrous, sweet lobster tail meat topped with parmesan-havarti crust baked in an aebleskiver pan which is cast iron with dimples to bake & hold Danish apple dumplings. The little dimples hold the flavourful melted cheese fat which I stopped up with the grilled rustic French bread. Another dish that would serve as another rich appetizer. $36 1-2a) Shō'un Junmai Daiginjo class Sakè (sah keh) by Hakutsuru: Smooth, sweet, aromatic hints of loquat, unripe pear, apple. Subtle Umami emphasizes the flavour of the food, and the pleasant acidity to clear the palate. I thought Sakè paired better than with the typical Chardonnay or Sauvignon Blanc. Ailish was pleasant and efficient considering it was a full house on a prime time Saturday evening from 6:30 to 9pm. When we got there they are out of the prime rib and a dish that my wife wanted. We should have left. I'm finding it to be decent steaks at high prices. AMAZING! we came for our anniversary dinner and the service was impressive. Everyone was so lovely and attentive. 10/10 for service. Parking was easy you park behind the restaurant and they validate. For starters we got a dozen oysters, garlic butter shrimp and a Caesar salad. The oysters were fresh and delicious, the garlic butter shrimp holy moly was AMAZING. Not overpowering just creamy goodness. I got the Hawaiian rib eye which was charred to perfection, sweet and juicy af! It was probably one of the best rib eyes I've ever enjoyed. It is sweet so if you don't like that maybe try the cowboy ribeye! My husband got the cowboy ribeye which is basically the same thing just bigger and not sweet. It was also charred to perfection and very tender and juicy. Overall I'm very happy with how our quick anniversary dinner turned out and we might have to make this a more frequent dinner spot! read more

Great restaurant with impeccable integrity. Hubby and I had an amazing date night at Davenport's. Food, service and ambiance on the patio was excellent. I might add that the drinks we ordered were both very generous. After a lovely meal and great conversation I some how inadvertently left my handbag at the table. We were 1/2 a mile away and the restaurant called my husband (we think they had his number from the booked reservation - thank goodness!) to let us know I had left my hand bag at the restaurant. We circled back and I retrieved my handbag with everything in the bag intact! I do want to note, I had just gone to ATM earlier that evening and the cash I withdrew was not in my wallet, but was in the open part of purse. All was accounted for!! Credit cards, cash, phone, all good! What a restaurant! Great service, food and clearly all employees take care of their customers in every conceivable way. Davenport's has such a cozy charm both inside and out, making it a really comfortable spot to relax and enjoy a meal. Parking is easy with validation available in the back, which makes things super convenient. The service was excellent--attentive and friendly, which added to the good vibe of the place. The food was delicious across the board, but the standout for me was definitely the miso Chilean sea bass--it was cooked perfectly and full of flavor. Portions are generous, especially the salads, so I'd suggest sharing if you don't plan on making it your main dish. A thoughtful touch was the complimentary birthday dessert they brought out for my friend, which made the evening feel extra special. I've had several wonderful dinner experiences here, so I chose it for my friend's birthday lunch. Unfortunately, lunch was disappointing. The restaurant was short-staffed, with the manager making cocktails and our waitress Kayla also hosting and serving multiple tables. Drinks and food took a long time, though the manager apologized and said lunch service had only started five days earlier. Kayla worked incredibly hard and deserves recognition for juggling so many roles, and my issue is with the restaurant being unprepared for lunch. I'd recommend dinner over lunch for now. read more

We reviewed the menu and decided on appetizers of spicy tuna rice cake which was wonderful that followed with onion soup perfectly prepared and served. It's set up as a cool campy lounge with modern art and jazz playing in the background. The service was prompt and the providers were wonderful. The menu was filled with a lot of delicious American themed choices. I had the tomahawk seared pork chop. Tender and juicy accompanied with perfectly cooked green beans and garlic peppercorn mashed potatoes. All together great choice. My girl had the chimicurri flank steak with tiny roasted potatoes and spinach. She enjoyed it greatly. Their featured wine choices were fantastic. My girl loved the Zin from Paseo as the Cab. However a lovely wine hostess brought out 2 additional wines to tasting. The special H.G. Cab was dynamite!. The ice cream sundae was a special treat. Davenport's did great with our Valentine's day reservations recently. We were seated within minutes after telling the staff we were here for our reservation. Funnily enough, a couple infront of us were trying to see if they could walk in and get some seating at one of their tables! "People don't actually celebrate Valentine's day, do they?" I heard them say. Thankfully, they were okay with heading to the bar to wait for a table, as offered by the host, so I commend her for dealing with that issue. Once we were walked to our table and got seated outdoors, I can confidently answer to that lady that "Yes!! People DO plan and set reservations ESPECIALLY for Valentine's day!!" All the tables were filled with lots of people celebrating. The outdoor views was beautiful with the string lights and the water fountain. I was immediately excited and happy, and I really enjoyed the crusted cheese bread!! My girlfriend chose the salmon plate and I was excited to hear from the waitress about a special item that wasn't listed on the menu called the Scallop Special. I switched up on what I wanted for that instead!!! As our plates came, we realized the sides were exactly the same as one another, the only difference was that she had baked salmon and I had scallops. They were so tender and the sauce was perfect for it! My mashed potatoes were good too, and the asparagus was grilled nicely. read more

My second time here and was even better than the first period. The staff was all very friendly upon walking in. Was sat three minutes after being greeted, which was great. Was full capacity for dinner and saw all the staff promptly taking care of all patrons. The drinks were amazing and not overly sweet. TLDR: Easy parking, some good picks, but service was lacking and flavors were inconsistent. - - - - - - Stopped by Davenport's for a birthday dinner, and I have to say I'm glad we were able to be seated without a reservation. Parking is easy a block away on the street or in the back lot since they have validation. The interior is on the dimmer end, a more intimate environment. We were seated a the high tables across the bar; the seats were comfy but a slipper if you're a fidgety one - oops! My friend and I ordered the Tuscan Seafood Fettuccine and Chimichurri Skirt Steak with a side of Jalapeno Bacon Mac & Cheese as well as iced waters and hot water. For starters, service was quite slow; at one point in time, we waited almost 20 minutes for hot water. This would continue for about 10-15 more minutes, and the servers never really checked in on us when we asked for water. The first bite of the jalapeno bacon mac and cheese, though, were delightful. Each macaroni was coated well with cheese, and the jalapeno and bacon flavors were evenly distributed down to the final bite - yum!. The potatoes from the chimichuri skirt steak were next. The first bite was simply delicious, a soft interior followed by a nicely roasted exterior. Unfortunately, there would be quite some variance, as some potatoes were not cooked to the same texture, resembling that of unseasoned, thick radish chunks. The medium rare skirt steak was in fact medium, though a bit tough. I can't say I enjoyed this dish too much outside of the sauteed spinach. The Tuscan Seafood Fettucine featured two large prawns, scallops, and lobster. Having been craving fettucine, this really hit the spot and thankfully was yummy from the top. I will admit though, that it got increasingly saltier down to the final bites. But eaten freshly arrived, I highly recommend this one - worth every dollar! read more

Shout out to Davenport's for bringing traditional upscale dining experience to the table (no pun intended) night after night. Our family lives in the neighborhood and frequently dines on the patio and in that 1.5hr window is able to relax. There is so much to be said for a local fine dining restaurant that is not fussy, delivers consistently, and isn't trying to reinvent the wheel with some gimmick. I'd compare davenports to a hillstone restaurant but without the "big machine" approach. Big appreciation! read more

Dinner on 4/9/2025. I struggled for a while trying to figure out how to justly review this restaurant. Unfortunately the inconvenience tended to dominate the memory the more time passed. A very nice restaurant with great atmosphere and a well-rounded menu. Not inexpensive and our meals were commensurate with the pricing. Elicia/Ally provided exceeptional service as our waitress. The bar poured a great drink. Had it not been for the staff response to ADA compliance, this would have been a 4 or 5 star rating. Several steps from the host desk to a large landing area and then several steps down to the dining room. The first ADA elevator was not working and the second took almost 15 minutes to figure out how to get it to work. Not just inconvenient but painful and embarrassing for the person needing such accomodation. Then seated at a booth that was on a riser. Hmmmm... and all along the staff were well aware of the ADA accomodation need. As we were finishing our dessert we say annother person needing similar accomodation leave via the patio, and only then did we find out that the patio door was on level ground wiht the dining room. We went to Davenport's with my family on a beautiful November night and sat outside. The atmosphere was cozy and relaxed, perfect for catching up over dinner. We ordered the Prime Rib Eye, Prime Rib French Dip, two Fried Chicken Salads, and a cheeseburger. Everything was delicious and cooked perfectly. If you're over 60, have no taste, and like paying for parking then you're in the right spot. Nigel Davenport started this restaurant with good intentions, the food was initially good years ago, it has clearly gone down... My job as a food critic is fun, but this was horrid. The atmosphere is nice, the outside seating area is comfy and the bar and interior is quiet. The cocktails *should* be good, but when the bartender over pours it runs the drink. (Nigel check your over-pouring, I guarantee you're losing money). The food: At around 70-90$ for a steak you'd expect it to be cooked to the right temperature and have some taste. Wrong. Asked for medium rare got medium well and probably enough salt to make my primary care dr send me to the ER. The pasta? You should tell people about all the ingredients, not many people are allergic to tomatoes, but yea that was a surprise. Service: Waitress and waiters are nice! They are genuine and just doing a job to make ends meet. And they don't shy away from asking for tips and making sure you know how unhappy they are with you.......Nigel. Also please get rid of your older manager, the photos he takes of customers is really creepy. I've been coming to Davenport's for over six years, and I absolutely love the ambiance and the food. I always order the miso Chilean sea bass -- it melts in your mouth like butter. Truly heavenly. I've also enjoyed the prime filet mignon and the crab cakes to start. For drinks, I love the Tippler, and my boyfriend always gets the Old Fashioned Mezcal. He usually orders the braised short rib, and we always finish with the banana cream pie. Absolutely delicious. Amazing menu all around! read more

My wife and I made a daring escape from the in-law invasion, and we found sanctuary at Davenport in Encino, California. We had one shot at freedom, so we booked a reservation through the Yelp app, because nothing says "we're still cool" like a dinner reservation in the 'burbs. Within minutes of arriving, they whisked us to our table like they knew we had just escaped something far worse than traffic. I ordered the Parmesan-crusted chicken with mashed potatoes, which was basically a nostalgic trip back to my grandma's kitchen. It was like her schnitzel but with less guilt and fewer stories about the good old days when breading was an art form. Service? Impeccable. The kind where they refill your water without making eye contact, because they're professionals. The vibe? Imagine if Pinterest opened a restaurant - hipster central, the kind of place you'd go to celebrate your dog's birthday. But hey, it's cool - I was feeling the Encino nostalgia, with my mom's parents having lived nearby, so every bite was a little trip down memory lane. Would I recommend Davenport? Absolutely. Just don't be the person who rolls in without a reservation. Davenport is too cool for spontaneous diners. Ambiance is good. Darkly lit, not quite hip, not quite classic. Feels upscale but maybe a bit forced, it's not bad, just a bit non memorable. Our table however was a bit of a laugh. Not sure if the chairs were too low of the table was too high but we felt like we were kids trying to sit at the grown up table. The appetizers were fine. The lobster bites were just ok in my opinion. The prime rib was delicious and a good portion for the hefty price tag. However, several of our items never came and the bussing staff felt a bit off. Small family owned restaurant on Ventura. I've eaten here many times and each time I've been served both quality and quantity. Service is always on point. Seating options vary with booths all inside the restaurant and a very welcoming patio seating that has lights with a little fountain that takes you to another place. My favorite drink is their east side standard, a cucumber mint martini, and wow this is the only place I order a Ny steak, highly recommend. Give them a try and a review. read more
