I always love stopping by On The Thirty to hangout/dine when in the area! It's right on Ventura with a nice outdoor patio space, so it's great for a bit of people watching (or perhaps more like car watching at times)! They're usually playing sports on the tv's inside when we go, but we usually just chill on the outdoor space. Service has always been super friendly and good about making sure you're taken care of and giving you refills/anything else you may need. For the food - last time I went, I got one of the salads (trying to be a little bit healthier haha)! It was HUGE, super fresh, and packed FULL of flavor from all the delicious toppings. The perfect mix of textures with some crunchiness. There's plenty of other menu items as well - we've had items like the burgers, brick oven pizzas, and ceviche in the past. All are very generously portioned, packed with high quality ingredients, and super tasty/satisfying to enjoy! Oh yeah, and if you drink...the cocktails here are tasty and STRONG! I had one and was feeling QUITE tipsy!! On The Thirty is one of my top picks in this part of the valley, and I highly recommend if looking for a spot to hang/dine at in the area!

Huge kudos to On The Thirty for effectively changing with the times. This stylish gastropub opened at the height of the good days in Hollywood, offering an upscale casual bar scene and bites that were always tasty but also, admittedly, pricier than they deserved to be. Flash forward, with so many having trouble making ends meet, this neighborhood mainstay has figured out how to stay open, stay stylish, and stay relevant to people with far less cash in their pockets. The sleek decor remains just so, totally well-maintained and comfortable. But the menu's been cleverly tweaked, offering less fancy small bites than before at lower prices. A good example: they previously offered a fairly extensive selection of cheeses and charcuterie, allowing you to choose your own combination, all of which required them to keep a host of high-end products ready, waiting and fresh. Now, they offer a curated plate of cheeses and charcuterie that provides much the same experience at a fraction of the cost. The rest of the menu dances between a good selection of shareables (offered in small or large sizes) and a nice choice of larger bites (burgers, sandwiches, pastas, salads, pizzas, etc.). The result is a wide variety of options large and small, all at affordable prices. The drinks are equally reasonable. I started with the Firecracker Shrimp: batter dipped, shell-on prawns that are flash-fried and tossed in a somewhat spicy but mostly sweet Asian marinade. The shrimp were, ironically, pretty large and quite tasty. Had they been served with rice, the dish would have filled me up -- but the shrimp were presented nicely atop shredded cabbage, and so I was left a little peckish. That's why I ordered a small portion of Bacon-wrapped dates, stuffed with cheese. 4 skewers arrived, with plump dates, crispy, flavorful bacon, and warm, softened cheese. My only complaint was that the honey drizzled atop made the dish a tad too sweet -- perhaps a Hot Honey would be a more effective final flourish. But when all was said and done, On The Thirty delivered a satisfying, tasty, light dinner in a relaxing, casually upscale environment at a reasonable price. I hope folks in the neighborhood take notice of their transition and continue to support them well.

Came on a Saturday to watch some college football games. We were able to be seated right away. We had the thirty pizza and the poutine. The poutine looks like it has changed from previous pictures are it wasn't cheese curds but melted cheese. Both items were still good regardless. The manager seemed to be helping us more than our server. They have a large draft list and food menu.

We found out about this place around month and a half ago and then came back already 5 times. They have tasty food, different types from veggies to meat. They r serving ribs on weekends and that's so scrumptious We weren't so excited about taste of pizza , but to each their own. All are polite and friendly. So cool bar for evenings, good enough for dining.

Came here on a Sunday with no reservation and sat at bar. This is the ultimate sports bar. 4 different channels playing on the tv so you're not missing a single game. Hostess are nice. They have hooks for your purse at the bar. They give a nice sized ice cream scoop with the deep fried Red velvet OREOS. Top tier! White truffle fries in my opinion was light on the white truffle but it's okay. Cesar salad was a beautiful presentation in a slanted bowl. This was about $40 Street parking is free sundays but if you park behind Dave's chicken they have a validated parking lot

It's been a while since we were last here for a meal. Prior it was drinks but at the bar. Popped ok for a little bite which happened to also be happy hour. They do offer a wide array of small plates, entrees pizzas and so on. But we went for the happy hour items which they did offer a few items for a small fraction of the price. Cocktails and drinks as well. Food wise, had the truffle fries, bacon wrapped dates, firecrackers shrimp, meatballs, and a pizza. All was excellent. Happy hour prices included any of the pizza in the menu. The dates were excellent as well as the meatballs which were huge. Served with toasted bread. Service was excellent, from everyone that worked there. They all worked together, serving and checking up on you. Food was great, drinks were nice and service was excellent. Will definitely be back again for a meal or just drinks.

I have to say that I'm not sure that soul food and fancy sit down are a match either. All that aside, I enjoyed the fried catfish. It had a nice lightly breaded seasoning with a crisp fry. The sides were good because when it comes to the things you know and love it can be rare magic when everything hits on perfect. The greens were good not great. The yams were heavy on the nutmeg/cinnamon flavor and more mashed than I prefer. They did have vegan options which was needed and great for some of our party. Someone got the catfish and jumbo shrimp combo plate. It looked great but I don't think delivered to their expectations. The staff is super friendly and helpful with recommendations and you can tell they believe in their product. I would consider Cea-Lo more grab and go.

But it was the only cake they had on the menu. Nobody knew why I was ordering cake. But every year I get a slice cake and I blow out a candle for what could've been. Last night I left the cake on the counter. For some reason this 10 year anniversary feels very final. At this point in my life where the option to have another kid doesn't exist anymore and there are no more "what ifs" or "could've beens" left to hope for. This morning I got up and had a bite of cake. Figuring I shouldn't let it go to waste. It was rich and moist and somehow perfect. As someone who doesn't even like chocolate, I couldn't believe how satisfying it was. I ate every last crumb. I licked the icing out of the container. And somewhere between the first bite and the last, I realized something. For ten years, I've been honoring the loss. But I've never tasted the sweetness that still exists around it. Maybe that's what this 10th anniversary is. Not pretending it didn't happen. Not forgetting him. But choosing to stop starving myself emotionally for a life that didn't unfold the way I imagined. The cake was never meant to sit there untouched. Maybe neither was I. So today, I might go back and order another slice. And this time, it won't be for what could've been. It will be for what still is. I never thought I could like chocolate cake, but it turns out I was wrong. I have spent so much time mourning that I have probably let many metaphorical delicious cakes passed me by. And I know I'm sad and emotional and dramatic right now but that cake was shockingly good. But I need more good "cake" in my life. I have literally called two friends today to tell them to try the cake at ocado. I can't promise you it will be life-changing for you, but it definitely sparked a change in me.

Sherman Oaks is gritty and the section of Ventura Boulevard that houses TLP is almost brutalist in its anti-establishment aesthetic. You would never know it was here if you didn't either live in the neighborhood or seek it out as I did. It is sandwiched between a completely non-descript place that I didn't even look at and a crystals shop with grafitti-etched windows (unfortunately!) but some really cool beads. Inside is the same -- no frills, a dress-down and survive-if-you-dare vibe. My pictures will illustrate what I mean. Nevertheless, the friendly service (shout out to our server, Patrick), the menu, and the quality of the food are well worth it. Again, see what we ordered in the photos attached. Everything was delicious. The floor, tables, and chairs were all clean. There is some kind of post-apocalypse rhumba going on with the ceiling treatment. It is almost reverse-logic art with all the shading (stains? velour movement?) and utilitarian installation it reveals. Love the walls though, and the worn distressed wood everywhere (see the pix, folks). A bonus was watching the Masters (Patrick let us linger) and sitting by a giant window that was open to the street. Parking is up a block or so on either side. We always find safe spots in Sherman Oaks. The music seemed to be one CD of an unknown (to me) vocal artist and was pleasant. The crowd was friendly and the whole atmosphere was like one big homey grunge party. You know those mornings you fall out of bed and almost don't want to change out of your pajamas or yoga threds? This is the place to go. I loved it. (NOTE: You may have to refresh this page twice to see my pictures, for some reason. grrrrrr)

There's music that's lively without being overbearing, and the staff is uniformly friendly. But... You have to order at the bar and, though they have runners to bring your food, you do have to hunt them down for anything after the delivery (extra ketchup, etc). While this isn't my favorite system at my age, to be fair, whatever the owners are saving on staff is reflected in the prices, which are absolutely below most places in the area for food that is good-quality and drinks that are generously poured. So yes, my wife's Espresso Martini was served in a deep-bellied Belgium beer glass, and my whiskey neat was a hefty pour. Yay!! For food, I ordered the Smash Burger, which is served with melted American, grilled onions and the house version of Russian dressing (as well as pickles, which I deleted). The burgers had a nice, smashed crust while remaining juicy, the cheese was properly melted, and the grilled onions had a terrific caramelized sweetness, while the house sauce was very well-balanced: ketchupy and creamy without being too mayonnaise-heavy. A very good smasher. My wife ordered the Big Texan Burger because she wanted cheddar and frizzled onions and BBQ sauce, though she deleted the bacon and pork belly that are normally included. This, too, was a very good burger: cooked to a proper and pleasing medium-rare and well-seasoned, with a good, fresh flavor to the beef. The onion rings were less successful, which are of the beer batter type, but seemed to be a commercial, frozen product. The coating was browned but not crisp, and the flavor was relatively nondescript. We didn't really eat them, and wouldn't order them again. And so, to me, The Tipsy Cow is a bit of a mixed bag: reasonably priced decent food and reasonably priced, generously-poured drinks -- but in a mostly self-serve environment that incrementally loses its appeal in relation to your age and your dining circumstances. Certainly worth a try, but you've gotta be in the right mood.
