[[HIGHLIGHT]]The surly Goat is an amazing location in the center of Encino on Ventura Boulevard[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]]. They have a well curated beer selection, also mixed drinks and a kitchen cooking up some delicious bar food. Now the staff is top tier... friendly , knowledgeable and oh so carrying about your visit. Every day of the week they have something special going on, make sure you follow them on Instagram so you can get all the information for the cool events for the days of the week.! and let them know, ChewYourBeer on instagram sent you !!

Decided to check this place out after attending a concert in Thousand Oaks on a Friday night . Upon our arrival it was not as busy as i would of thought which was great for us. We made our way over to the bar and for the first time i had a high noon seltzer peach flavor and it was perfect! quite frankly i became obsessed with them! Thanks Surly Goat for the recommendation. So much seating area! so its an ideal spot for large group gathering. They play great music and stream music videos with it. You can find parking in the back but not that well lit at night. i would park on Ventura Blvd or across the street in the CVS shopping center. They provide fast service and drinks are reasonably priced. you can def. have a good time here!

My bf discovered this place, mainly for their Tap Takeover since one of the ones on the menu was one he really likes. I believe it was the "Pliny The Younger" but I can't remember. This bar is located on Ventura and the parking lot nearby is for the next door shopping area with the Target and Western Bagel, free, and easily walkable! Lots of spots when we went. [[HIGHLIGHT]]Walked in, it was loud, tables were all full so we sat at the bar.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] I didn't see any cocktails that interested me so my bf got his drink and I had a Shirley temple which was honestly one of the best I've had lol! We also grabbed some dinner while we were here. My bf got the smash burger (delicious) and we shared the sweet potato tots with jalapeno ranch (unique and super good) and I had their Surly Fries as my main which is their animal style fries. Oh my god. The absolute BEST animal fries you'll ever have. The fries were crispy and perfectly seasoned but also the way they prepare it was solid throughout!! Melty cheese, grilled onions, and sauced up throughout the layers of fries so you never run out of topping. I think my favorite part about it was the perfectly cooked fries and amazing amount of grilled onions. This is definitely the star of the show in my books and I'm itching to be back! I hope it's a permanent item because our bartender, Kelly K, mentioned they always get rid of good food on their menu!! Bummer. Looking forward to what new items they have on our next visit but also dying to have more surly fries lol! IG: @ammysalamii

The Surly Goat is exactly what you would think of when you think of a bar. I went on a Wednesday night and it was pretty empty, except for the few people playing trivia. The bartender, Dwight, was super friendly to us when we arrived. We sat at the bar and drinks came quickly. The old fashioned I ordered was solid, nothing super special. They have some drink specials for cocktails and a whole lot of beer on tap. They have a fair amount of booths for seating and stools at the bar. They have a couple shuffleboards too. It's a pretty spacious bar overall. I've been here before on weekends when it's crowded but it never felt too claustrophobic. There's a parking lot in the back, but it's not super well lit in places. I would park in Ventura Blvd. The surly goat wouldn't be my first choice of location for a night out, but it's one of those spots I find myself at after I've already gone somewhere else. It's a very straightforward bar so if that's your vibe, you'd love it! My only complaint was that the bar was a little sticky when I sat down.

I was going to an event here to continue our celebrating our LA Marathon finishers. [[HIGHLIGHT]]I got here super early and there was a group celebrating a birthday, the theme was a country theme so I went to my car, grabbed my cowboy hat and fit right in, while waiting for friends.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] Ok so while I was waiting I went to the bar and ordered a couple smash cheese burger and a Weihenstephaner Hefeweissbier, I lived in Germany a couple years and this bier reminded me of good times. Ok my burger came it was of course extremely good I also got the spicy fries of which I shared with friends that finally made it. [[HIGHLIGHT]]The music was on key and the staff were super friendly and upbeat.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] I'm definitely going to hit this place up again soon.

I've come here for food and drinks a few times and each time I tell myself I should come more often. They have a great beer selection and the food is also really good. The servers are always super friendly. I also like that it is one of the few places on Ventura Boulevard where you can find parking. There is lot in the rear. The times I've gone I have always been able to find seating right away. Most recently I was surprised to find that the had Pliny the Younger on tap. I can't wait to go back!

If I could give zero stars I would [[HIGHLIGHT]]this place was a dive bar[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]], but my drink was actually good the black bouncer decided after we got in and spent $100 on drinks he came and asked one of our friends to leave because he had on open toe shoes but clearly all the women did too! he said it was a dress code issue this place is not upscale at all what dress code clearly this guy was on a power trip I will not return there's a 60+ bday here there was a few young people but they play weird Vegas pool party/ dance USA game type music this place sucked!!!!!!!!!

A fun, laid back spot on Ventura Blvd near the Target, Shake Shack and Starbucks plazas. Food is .... Okay. The churro dessert is bomb dot com. The fries are okay, sliders and burgers are okay. Beer selection is top notch. I love me a good stout. I love the trivia and pool here, too. Karaoke is avail one night a week, if that's your thing. Service is okay, it can get busy so ordering drinks can take a little while. Parking is in the back or on the street - don't forget to pay your meter.

Came here once and it was history. I think this has been the spot now. Came here with a friend on a Friday or Saturday night, I can't remember. We got there at a good time, but once the DJ came, IT WAS POPPIN!!! So many people were there, it was packed. Some people didn't wear deodorant so I lowkey left shortly after it got crowded cause it started to smell bad. I also came on Thursday which is Karaoke night, and y'all, ITS A VIBE!!! It was so fun. I stayed till the bar closed and that never happens to me anymore. Just tried trivia night last night and my friend and I won second place out of 6!!! It is family feud style so you answer with what you think the most popular is. It was so much fun! Another plus is there is a whole parking lot! So parking is never an issue. And the STAFF IS AMAZING!!! They're truly the best. The bartenders, security, DJs. All amazing people. I can't believe it has taken me this long to see how great this place is. See you there! Haha

Stopped by for happy hour and was pleasantly surprised by the food. There's a good amount of tables spread throughout the bar but you have to place your drink and food orders with the bar tender which was kinda strange. It wasn't busy when we went but I can imagine this being an issue when it's crowded. The menu only has a couple of items on it but the burger and fries were actually delicious and very well seasoned. Solid spot for a drink or a quick bite!

    Cheers, Brooke and Kate!!

The best place to go to for a nice pint of stout and great company! Hats off to Kate and Brooke holding the fort down and making sure everyone is happy! Definitely worth a repeat performance on a weekly basis!!

It's a small place and the decor didn't really feel like it matched the vibe, and the karaoke set-up was not very good. It was really hard to hear the backing music, even when you were the one singing, but this isn't the type of place that you come to "perform" for karaoke like a lot of other places in LA. It's very casual and low-pressure. Song choices were all over the place (which isn't necessarily a good or bad thing). Late night happy hour menu was decent and they offered it from 9pm on that night, and the place did get packed to standing room only. I had a hard time finding info on what their happy hour was before we went, so I took a picture to share. This was on 2/6/2026. The bartender, Brian, was very friendly, but I realized when looking at the emailed receipt afterwards that he switched one of my sibling's drinks on my tab, and I'm assuming mine got put on theirs. We have the same last name, so I understand the mix-up, but it would have been nice if he just asked about who was who instead of assuming, and it also would have been nice to see an itemized receipt before paying instead of just seeing the dollar amount we owed. Not a huge deal this time, just something that I hope they will keep in mind in the future. For food, my partner was able to get a pizza from a place across the street and bring it back into the bar, and Brian was kind enough to offer extra napkins. The Food- Had the Truffle Burger that was pretty good but I thought for $18 that it should either be bigger or come with fries. Parking- Plenty of parking

When I went up to order a drink, there was a staff member that was just starting her shift-Sunday 7/20/26 around 1200 noon. She looked around the bar, had someone walk in front of me and served them immediately. She never noticed the line behind me waiting to order (about 5 customers). she never smiled, very indifferent and gave a very negative vibe. We will not be back again. I don't tolerate staff like that. She cancelled out the wonderful staff person that helped us first. She was top notch.

This was my first time at Tipsy Cow, and I have mixed emotions. The atmosphere is casual and…read morefestive, with TV's playing sports and a varied crowd that includes daters, older couples, families and singles making the most of their weekend. There's music that's lively without being overbearing, and the staff is uniformly friendly. But... You have to order at the bar and, though they have runners to bring your food, you do have to hunt them down for anything after the delivery (extra ketchup, etc). While this isn't my favorite system at my age, to be fair, whatever the owners are saving on staff is reflected in the prices, which are absolutely below most places in the area for food that is good-quality and drinks that are generously poured. So yes, my wife's Espresso Martini was served in a deep-bellied Belgium beer glass, and my whiskey neat was a hefty pour. Yay!! For food, I ordered the Smash Burger, which is served with melted American, grilled onions and the house version of Russian dressing (as well as pickles, which I deleted). The burgers had a nice, smashed crust while remaining juicy, the cheese was properly melted, and the grilled onions had a terrific caramelized sweetness, while the house sauce was very well-balanced: ketchupy and creamy without being too mayonnaise-heavy. A very good smasher. My wife ordered the Big Texan Burger because she wanted cheddar and frizzled onions and BBQ sauce, though she deleted the bacon and pork belly that are normally included. This, too, was a very good burger: cooked to a proper and pleasing medium-rare and well-seasoned, with a good, fresh flavor to the beef. The onion rings were less successful, which are of the beer batter type, but seemed to be a commercial, frozen product. The coating was browned but not crisp, and the flavor was relatively nondescript. We didn't really eat them, and wouldn't order them again. And so, to me, The Tipsy Cow is a bit of a mixed bag: reasonably priced decent food and reasonably priced, generously-poured drinks -- but in a mostly self-serve environment that incrementally loses its appeal in relation to your age and your dining circumstances. Certainly worth a try, but you've gotta be in the right mood.

You can tell a lot of care goes into both the menu and the overall dining experience. The restaurant itself is gorgeous. The aesthetic is modern, inviting, and perfect for a date night or dinner with friends. The outdoor patio adds to the ambiance and makes the whole experience feel even more special. What really stood out, though, was the hospitality. I believe the owner was outside greeting guests as they arrived and made a point to thank and acknowledge everyone as they left. That personal touch is rare these days and made us feel genuinely appreciated as customers. Excellent food, beautiful atmosphere, and outstanding hospitality. We'll definitely be back and highly recommend it to anyone looking for a great night out in Encino!

We were sitting in the bar area, and I think on the other side of the outdoor host area is more traditional restaurant seating, though I can't be sure. Jesse was our server and he was very kind and, by his own admission, new to the place. He worked hard to make things right for us. We started off with two glasses of happy hour pinot noir ($6) which were served very warm. When I inquired about it, he told us that they serve wine at "ambient temperature," but he would mention it to management. When it's over 80 outside, you should not be serving wine at that temp. He brought another glass in a little carafe on ice to try to remedy it, which was kind. I ordered a Watermelon Mojito on happy hour, with no agave ($10). It was fine. Other drinks our group ordered were a Lagunitas IPA ($8), a Pacifico ($8), and cold glasses of champagne (I asked before ordering to be certain; $12). As for the food, it was also ok, not bad, but fine. We shared the happy hour vegan Brussels Sprouts ($10)--no one is vegan, but that is how they come--the happy hour Margarita Flatbread ($10), the Lamb Bam sliders ($17 for two, add $6 for a 3rd), the Short and Saucy Tacos ($18 for 3) short rib tacos, and the Bone to be Wild ($18) for two large pieces of bone marrow with a few small toasted squares of bread. All of it was fine, in some cases a bit overpriced, especially off of happy hour. Many people seemed to love it, but our group was all of the opinion that it was fine. It's not a place we would rush back to.
