I was really looking forward to trying Popular, especially since I've enjoyed other restaurants in this group. While there were a few items on the menu that we did enjoy, overall the experience did not meet expectations. The biggest disappointment was the service. I made a reservation for four at 6:30 PM, and at 8:00 PM--while we were still in the middle of enjoying our meal--we were asked to move to accommodate a larger party. This was extremely frustrating, especially since we were catching up with close friends we hadn't seen in years. If there was a time limit for the table, this should have been clearly communicated at the time of booking or when we were seated. It would have given us the option to choose a different restaurant for the evening. Although the staff offered complimentary desserts to make up for moving us to the bar, it didn't make up for the disruption of the experience. read more

My bf and I have been eyeing this place because we're biiiiig fans of Tel Aviv Grill and finally decided to check it out for lunch. When we came there wasn't a wait but I've seen it busy at times. They have seating inside and some outdoor tables too. You order like a typical sit-down restaurant, the waiter comes to take your order, brings you your food, then the check. We ordered the whole denise fish and you get one choice of side with that - we got the israeli salad (cucumbers, tomatoes, onion). They bring out a beautiful rotating platter of dips with freshly warm pita and a side plate of hummus. You can't help but just dig right in. The hummus is to die for, I could have licked the plate clean by the end of it. The pita is deliciously fluffy and fresh. It's fun to try all the little side bowls - everything from baba ganoush to salsas to quinoa salad. After some time, the fish came out! It was lightly fried and tasty, especially with the squeeze of lemon. Really tasty meal overall. My bf got the limonana drink - it's light and not overly sweet, lots of blended mint. Popular Restaurant is a great new spot in Encino serving delicious Middle Eastern cuisine with a tapas style small plates. Both times I thoroughly enjoyed. It's is a bit pricey, like classy restaurant and not a cafe. It's absolutely beautiful inside. Went in for dinner with 4 friends and had an amazing dinner. Flavors surpassed my expectations. We ordered a bunch of appetizers and entrees to share. Sashimi, King salmon rolls, tzatziki, cabbage skewers, mushrooms hummus, focaccia, cheese baklavas and the best of all, the fish cigars. My favorite. We also shared entrees: branzino, salmon skewers, bucatini cacio e Pepe, and mushroom gnocchi. All delicious. Gnocchi had too much salt for my taste. The prices are a little high but that is the norm for Kosher food in Los Angeles. The ingredients are fresh and well prepared by the staff that work extremely hard to get orders out quickly. A great place to meet a group of people. It can be loud inside - lots of families with young children enjoying themselves. The plates include lots of fresh salads, humus and other goodies. For my daughters birthday I ordered a lunch special for her and her husband.... The butterflied bronzino, and the focaccia, smoked eggplant and white sweet potato. I went with my friend to brunch today, since we were off on Memorial Day. It had been many years we both hand not been there! It was very busy but we were able to get a table fast and comfortably! My friend had the butterflied branzino which was awesome and fresh; it came with a pita and several mini salads, and one side ( he opted for the Israeli salad which consisted of chopped cucumbers, parsley, onions, and tomatoes! Myself I had the Israeli breakfast. I chose it with two sunny side up eggs, mini bagels, and assortment of small salads. I too had the Israeli salad on the side. It also came with two carrot juices. Recently chnaged their arak rigatoni pasta. Had it two weeks ago and it was incredible, loved it. The chnaged it because some customers I guess complained that it had a funky taste? Instead it's a very wierd onion sauce now that kinda just tastes like French onion soup with atleast 6 tablespoons sooons of sugar in it. Superrrr sweet didn't like it at all. Food: 6/5. Tel Aviv Fish Grill has some of the absolute tastiest and freshest food I've ever eaten. The sea bass is so good, it's crazy to think they make it so perfectly. Orders also come with a side of hummus and other mini "plates" with pita for dipping. Delicious. Their French fries are to die for too... A+++++ Ambiance: 5/5. TA Fish Grill gets crowded, so be sure to get here early! It's a fun environment with people of all backgrounds enjoying delicious food! Service: 3/5. The only reason TA Fish Grill doesn't get 5 stars is the service... I don't put any of this in the servers themselves, but a lot of time the staff seem stressed out and overworked. There isn't much joy in their faces. Attn management: please treat your staff better so they're happier! It's the right thing to do, and it'll be a better experience for all parties involved.
