Today I called to see if they could install a catalytic converter that I bought from RockAuto.com. I was told they were too busy putting in their own catalytic converters to use someone else's. Never could get the man on the phone and when I did he scheduled me at 9 in the morning for an exhaust installation on my gladiator, said to be there no later then 9. I was there at 8:30 waited till 9:20 still nobody showed. Disappointed because I wasted my time and I wanted to show some support to my local businesses, and I had a lot of things that need to be installed sucks because he lost on a good loyal customer. read more

That was 2 weeks ago, she followed up and he said sorry, I will call you back in a bit. Still she has not heard from him. I've been putting off replacing my catalytic converter for a while on my 2001 Toyota Tacoma because I know it was going to be expensive. I also had difficulties getting a hold of many of the muffler shops in Chico (which are already pretty limited). Dave answered the first time I called and had me go in the same day to have it evaluated. He even went one step further and replaced it that same day for a price much more reasonable than I was expecting to pay for! Amazing service and excellent work! 15 or more years ago, I had muffler problems and was Dave was highly recommended to me by a friend. I brought my car in and had my muffler replaced in a timely manner. He didn't even charge me labor for replacing it! Wow! Fast forward 15 years... Same car. Someone had backed into my old car and had damaged the muffler. ( It was hanging down and sounded awful!) I brought my car into Dave and figured I would be purchasing another muffler. NO! He repaired the muffler and made sure it was working fine. And NO CHARGE! He informed me that I probably have another 2-3 years before it will need replacing! Dave is the Muffler Man! read more

Just the latest victim of the Toyota catalytic converter thefts in Chico lately (Chico PD said older 4-Runners & Tacoma's). My regular mechanic is Fairchild Automotive and they recommended Dave's Muffler. He has been in business in Chico for 23 or so years. He is good and most certainly worth your business. Go here. I talked to John initially, who was very helpful and friendly. He called a few hours after I dropped it off and gave me an estimate. I then called and checked Dave's Muffler against other shops in town. Most said the price was fair, except one who low-balled enough to consider him. I called back and spoke to Dave, who explained the differences between what Dave was going to do, and what the other guy would do. Dave was very patient, friendly, and thorough with his explanation and reasoning. He did an excellent job of convincing me that I was getting a good value for my money. As I said above, go here. Poor! We scheduled an appointment that he did not keep. Was very rude to my wife. After a 1-1/2 hr my wife returned to check on her vehicle, the work was not been started. Dave and his crew laughed at my wife when she asked for the keys back to take the vehicle some well else. A morning wasted. read more

If you are in the Northstate and need exaust work done this is the place to go. Affodable, honest, knowledgable and great quality of work. The total even came out to a little less than the initial quote so it was very nice to see they didnt take advantage of me. They were also $200 cheaper than another local shop to do the same work. I did business with dave 20 years ago back when you couldnt get a catalytic converter for less than $700 (inc labor) within 100 miles of chico ,I was making $5 an hour and my car was salvaged,needless to say,i was screwed,till i found dave's,he was working mostly alone and it took a little more time some days because I think he prioritizes according to his customers needs so there is that but he NEVER cheated me and he NEVER did sub par work,his work always outlasted my vehicle which say's it all as far as i am concerned,then i moved and when i came back i thought he was out of business but just found out he just moved and I have another vehicle that needs his help this time a mini-truck,and i am definitely going to dave's. read more

Dave and his staff have always been off the charts for me. Five is not enough stars. Over the course of roughly 20 years, he has done I believe 8 cat-back, freeflow exhaust upgrades for me, both dual and single. The work is impeccable, the price is outstanding, the service is stellar, and the knowledge share prior to job spec and completion is thorough and enlightening. Earlier this month, the header on my 1999 Wrangler simply broke, all the way around, and unknown to me, it also had a half dozen other cracks. Auto Doctor (another 5 star Chico business) removed the header, sent it to Dave for assessing in order to make a fix versus replace decision. The decision was to fix it, AND DAVE DID NOT CHARGE ME FOR THE MULTIPLE REPAIRS TO THE HEADER. I already was and will remain a customer for life. read more

Referred to Dave's by Zeppelin Works for a replacement catalytic converter in my 2004 Mercury Grand Marquis. Took the car in the next day, about $500.00 estimate for left front converter. Delivered on time the same day, reported damage was actually to the right rear converter, which he had in stock and was easier to install. Price, $120. less than the original estimate. That was two months ago, I now live in Arizona and have nothing to gain by giving this shop my sincere thanks and highest recommendations. The best in Chico, no doubt. read more
