So much for Private Equity acquiring Dave's Cosmic Subs and making it better. This is the second location we've gone to recently where there was only one person working - working the cash register, taking orders, answering the phone and making sandwiches. I felt bad for him. It took us 30 minutes to get 2 subs. That's unacceptable. Plus, they've taken the hot dog off the menu. Fortunately, there are a lot of other great sandwich shops in Northeast Ohio. read more

I ordered lunch from here thru DoorDash today. The restaurant offers delivery, but not to my location. I got "The Original" with a side of chips. I also decided to try the coleslaw. The 8" sub includes pepperoni, salami, prosciutto, lettuce, tomato, onion, banana peppers, and Dave's sauce. The bread is a bit overwhelming, I had to tear some off as I ate. Just too much for this sub. That said..it's pretty filling. The chips are sea salt kettle chips. Good crunch, not much flavor. Simple. And the coleslaw... I like coleslaw that's got a crunch to it, with a creamy sauce, maybe a little sweet... this was anything but that. Very dry, soggy, and honestly not much flavor at all. I definitely recommend the sub! The sides, however, I'll go without next time. read more

Located in the new building by BW's Music Conservatory, Dave's Cosmic Subs offers up an eclectic and fun menu of sandwich options. This ain't Subway... I was a little worried that this new location would not have the same taste and quality as some of Dave's more established locations that I have dined at before, but they are on the money. My wife and I stopped in for a quick Dave's Tuna sub. Cost for two subs with one drink 21.00 bucks ouch! Then when we received the subs on crusty hard french bread we were disappointed to have a small smattering of tuna on the sandwich placed hot dog style on the sub.When we chomped into the subs all the tuna and cheese exited the hard crusty sandwich falling on the cosmic paper wrapping. Ending in a good note. The college gal asked how everything was and I gave her the grim update of the small smattering of tuna that free falled in to the paper. Her response was "sorry". Yeah, I was sorry too. The roof of my mouth sore from sharpened french bread, a pile shredded cheese thankful it was not going to be eaten, with a small bit of tuna picked from the cosmic paper. I am very happy they have gluten free bread!! It's really good! But I am not happy with the fries however. I don't think their fryer is hot enough because they are always grease soaked and yucky! This is the worst sub place I've ever ordered from! Everything on the menu is ridiculously over priced and the added expense doesn't mean it better at all! Their "best meatball sub" was the worst! Every sub we ordered was over dressed and soggy with dressing dripping out everywhere. We were charged $16 for a large sub and given a small sub. My chicken cordon bleu was a soggy mess with wilted lettuce. I will never order from this place ever again and recommend you choose another restaurant if you want a good sub. read more

I dunno about "cosmic", but they're pretty good-- if you can find something you want. I used to live near Coventry (Cleveland Heights) and would patronize that location (or Grums). My wife mentioned she'd seen this while shopping in Berea, and I told a series of stories. I guess I sold her-- we went there fairly often before Dave's got old. I'll put the lead up front: If you come here, get a brownie. Do not miss those. Do not worry about chocolate chip cookie-- it isn't nearly as good My big issue with Dave's: no customizations. Not even "hold the--". I know why they do it (eliminates slowdowns during crushes and the possibility for error), but it's a stone bummer. You'd think a shop that plays up its hippie roots wouldn't be so totally fascist with its menu, man. Truth be told, the Reagan administration was WAAAAYYYY cooler. I want to drill down on this because it would be the big issue for many people. I've never liked banana peppers-- and as I get old, Dave's banana peppers are a deal killer. Since I'm not gonna pay for an item I don't want and then pick it out (especially out of a hot sandwich), that one item takes 8 of the 27 sandwiches off the table. The hot/red peppers they use are also problematic-- that's 13. It's not just that I'm locked out of every italian option but one. I can't order the #13 (a turkey sub). Or two of the three chicken subs. My wife doesn't like bleu cheese (three items off-menu), and can't stand mushrooms. No cheesesteak for you, Mrs. Danger. Which sucks, because that cheesesteak (#29) is very good-- it's the one I was happiest with. She got even by ordering the Best Meatball Ever (#17) and asking me if I wanted to try it (peppers). The menu says you can get "regular or large"-- for 13 of the 27, it's regular only. No, there is no price break for ordering two, They say you can order anything hot or on a bed of lettuce. I heard the counter person tell someone they couldn't (don't remember which one; for all I know, the request might have been insane). Of the ones I've had, a number don't live up to the hype. "Dave's Tasty Bacon" (#26) was criminally low on the main ingredient-- which, combined with the premium price, sinks it. Dave's claims its corned beef is "the BEST IN TOWN." Of course it isn't-- in a city that has so much world-class corned beef, this almost insults your intelligence. My wife enjoys the "Original" (#1) and the #4 (Far Out Chicken) but warns that it is really hot. She was also expecting chunks, rather than sliced chicken, but said that wasn't a negative. The soups were OK (the chili was more tomatoey than beefy), and the chips are gourmet-- but just chips. The rolls are excellent; the ingredients all pretty premium. I will commend the staff for being extraordinarily patient and offering suggestions and advice about what to get. (Not like some places where the people up front haven't eaten 75% of what they sell.) If you can handle what they have (I used to be able to) or you like the conformation they put on, I could see going 4 or 5 stars. I'm gonna go down the middle here-- there just aren't enough subs that I can eat-- and want to. read more

I'm just here to state how amazing their Meatball sub is. I don't leave much reviews on here often but after trying their 'Dave's best meatball' sub, im now a forever fan of it!! 100%! Real beef, amazing sauce and just the right amount of kick and spice puts this sub above all other meatball subs I've ever tried. It's worth every dollar. I'm upset that I wasn't aware of it earlier.
