Went to a private birthday party where Jason the owner was a gracious, knowledgeable, and fun host. A beautiful charcuterie board started off the evening, and then after we learned a little bit about Jason's family history, we got to cooking. We learned hot to seer delicious garlicky green beans in a paella pan, made garlic shrimp with amazing fresh bread, and had the most incredible caprese sandwiches with prosciutto and marmalade fig jam. Then after we were totally stuffed on the food and wine, we got to learn how to make homemade cheese ravioli. It was so much fun. He showed us multiple ways to make them, and then gave us the table to do our thing. We brought tons of leftovers home, and we got to shop in the store with a little discount. It was a fabulous time! I've often heard that "you should never meet your heroes", which made me a little nervous to return to Dave's Fresh Pasta, one of my favorite places when I was in college. All these years later, it still holds up - the sandwiches are just as good as remembered, perfectly assembled with quality ingredients on delicious bread (the ciabatta and focaccia is great). I swear the sandwich menu hasn't changed at all, and it truly didn't need to - there is a sandwich for everybody. My top five, in no particular order: 1. Proscuitto & fig on sliced ciabatta 2. Grilled chicken #2 on focaccia 3. Grilled chicken #1 on focaccia 4. Smoky-spicy turkey on a ciabatta roll 5. Pesto chicken on focaccia The shop is stuffed chockful of delicious snacks, cheeses, a wonderful selection of wines, and of course, fresh pasta (including some fantastic ravioli). I also never wrote a review at the time, but I took an Italian cooking class here in college (thanks to a friend's birthday gift) and it changed my life. I learned how to make panzanella and really good steak, saw how accessible cooking could be, and got really into reading cookbooks and cooking. Now it's one of my big hobbies. Pasta: 5/5 FINALLY I had the chance to check out Dave's Fresh Pasta in Somerville. I don't eat a lot of pasta typically so it took me forever to swing by, but I'm so glad I finally did. I opted for two different Ravioli's from the frozen section. One was a Spring Leek, Herb, and Mascarpone, and the other was Sweet Potato and Caramelized Onion. They were both out of this world. The freshness and handmade-ness were very apparent. The flavors were impeccable and unique. Personally, the Spring Leek & Herb Ravioli's made me almost cry. The blend of herbs used reminded me so much of my Mom's Persian cooking. Yum Yum Yum. Thank you. Sandwich Counter: 4/5 The sandwiches are excellent here. I ordered two custom turkey sandwiches on ciabatta and had them pressed for extra crispy delicious goodness. The quality of the ingredients were evident and they certainly didn't skimp. My only complaints were that the vinegar peppers tasted very plain, almost like they weren't ready yet, and that the turkey cold cuts were peppered. Dave's is a neighborhood staple in Davis Square. This place is super busy all the time, especially on Saturdays. Best to call ahead to place your order so you don't have to stand in line as long. The wait is worth it though. Their sandwiches are huge (enough for two meals) and made from fresh, wholesome ingredients. I especially love their chicken salad, which I often buy by the pint. They also sell specialty grocery items and wine. The groceries are on the pricey side, but some are items that would be hard to find elsewhere. read more

So many yummy sandwiches! I've been here a handful of times and each time has been delicious and left me super satisfied. All the sandwiches sound so good with their specialty and fresh ingredients. The sandwiches are all ~$10 and quite large. I never finish the whole sandwich in one sitting. I recently got the Roasted Veggie Goat on Focaccia and it was on point. There was a nice ratio of roasted veggies and goat cheese. I love how they loaded the sandwich with goat cheese so you got some of that creamy cheese in each bite. Ordered catering for an event and it was great! The staff told me which type of bread went well with what type of sandwich. It was cut in half as requested in fitted nicely in a box. Each sandwich was labelled and faced up so you can see the toppings once the box is open. They have so many sandwiches to choose from, steak, pork, lamb, chicken, turkey and more. Dave, you can get Fresh with me any time! I'm a proud Davis Square resident, and you're by far my favorite neighbor. You're oh-so-generous with your free samples of cheeses, oils/vinegars, and sauces/dips. And you sure get the party going with the wine/beer tastings in the back room! I've picked up a variety of fresh pastas & sauces for an easy dinner at home that tastes restaurant-quality. I tend to gravitate toward the ravioli since there are so many interesting varieties! My latest purchase was the August special, a lemon & parsley ricotta ravioli, which I paired with their arugula & toasted almond pesto. It tasted like all of the best parts of summer. In my experience, 1 pound of pasta is enough to feed 3 people (or gives one person lots of yummy leftovers!). There are also frozen pastas and other goodies in the freezer for grab-and-go if you need your pasta NOW and aren't about waiting in line at the counter. In addition to the pasta (and did I mention the samples?), the market boasts many international as well as local delights, from cheeses to snacks to desserts. The store was quite chaotic! Despite that, they're quite efficient at getting food out, so the wait isn't too bad. The limeade (4$) was way too sweet... Not refreshing at all, even though it was a cold citrus drink on a super hot day because it was so sweet. The BLT on a baguette (12$) was fine, but could have used crunchier bacon (the bacon slices just came out whole instead of breaking apart when bitten). The tomatoes and avocados were also not amazing, but I suppose those are hard to consistently source. The bf had the Artichokes and Arugula with focaccia, which is a vegetarian option that also has some mushrooms. Not my favorite taste but he loves it a lot. I do LOVE the focaccia bread though! I was really excited to try this place. I got the porcini ravioli and the mushroom cream sauce to cook at home. The mushroom cream sauce was amazing -- not too heavy, great mushroom flavor, very smooth and savory. The porcini ravioli was way too heavy on the ricotta cheese for me -- I could barely taste the mushrooms. I also had trouble cooking it to the right consistency -- I followed the directions on the website but had to cook it a lot longer so that the edges wouldn't be super hard. The price for the ravioli was reasonable but I wouldn't get it again. Overall I will probably come back to try some of their ricotta-less pasta and some more of those amazing sauces! read more

Service: for being a familial shop, they were very unfriendly, and I would even dare say rude. They didn't tell us the line to order is against the counter, so we just waited in the wrong spot for about 10 minutes while they stared at us!!! It was about 2pm so it's not like we can equate it to the afternoon rush... they just showed no interest in us being informed. Even after we ordered, there were no "thank you's" exchanged or any sort of pleasantries. It seemed like we were genuinely bothering them, which is horrible. -1 star Space: there are five bar stools on the right side of the entrance, and three tables with about 7 seats to the left side of the entrance. Very, very limited seating, and when we were there people were just hanging out and not even eating. -1/2 star Food: decent priced sandwiches (~$10 a piece) with a plethora of bread, meat, cheese and veggie options if you want to create your own. My BF got a steak sammie that I thought was incredible, and I got the Prosciutto & Fig sammie with a generous portion of prosciutto, mozzarella and fig jam. My only complaint is that it was slightly on the sweet side because it was a bit too much jam, as evident by the soggy bread. -1/2 star I would definitely go back if I planned to take it to go! Upon walking into Dave's Fresh Pasta, I got hit by a bout of deja vu - I think I've been there before... but I'm pretty sure that this was the first time I ordered up one of their sandwiches. Dave's Fresh Pasta consists of several adjoining rooms, yet it is rather small and dense. It is filled with many things from wine to fresh vegetables to maple syrup to candies to baked goodies, with a meat counter on one side, a pasta room on far right, and a sandwich counter in between, yet it is still well organized with a number of seating options placed about in addition to the tables set outside along the sidewalk as a makeshift patio. For my lunch, I was a bit overwhelmed with the tasty sounding sandwich options - please don't make me choose! - so I went with the Build Your Own route, and ordered a grilled chicken on sliced ciabatta with mozzarella, spinach, tomato, roasted peppers, vinegar peppers, caramelized onions, with honey mustard, grilled for $8.50. ($9.10 after tax) What I got was a rather large creation - half was enough to satisfy my appetite. Yum! But a bit messy to eat on the go as the juices ran through my fingers. I considered picking up some sauce and homemade pasta to go after overhearing a conversation about how it makes for a really quick and yummy meal (15 min), but since I was going to be out for dinner the next couple of evenings, I had no idea when I would have the chance to enjoy the fresh pasta at its best.
