Can't speak necessarily to the service or the ambiance because we had it to go, but it it did surprise me as to how good it was. I have had today's hot chicken once before, and I really wasn't a big fan of it but I think it's because I got it really cold. This, you can tell there's a lot of flavor and seasoning, which is a huge bonus. The chicken was also extremely juicy, none of it was dry which is a huge bonus! They definitely know how to do their spicy, I always like hot and they delivered! I will be trying the hotter flavors next time, but it's changed my perception of this restaurant and it's different locations! Tenders (4/5): Big pieces of chicken that were lightly breaded and full of seasoning. I wish there was a little more crunchiness, but at the same time I'm glad they weren't over breaded. The spice blend was good (I'm right in between medium and hot) and I liked the dipping sauce (pretty typical thousand island type sauce).  Sliders (4/5): The slider is just a tender on a bun with some sauce and slaw on it. The bun is very mediocre, and since the tenders come with white bread, I didn't think there was much of a difference between getting tenders and sliders (besides the slaw which wasn't anything special). Cheese is also optional. If you like spicy... like super freaking spicy... this is a great spot for you (as long as you like chicken btw). Dave's hot chicken is an out of state chain but ran locally by the same guy that franchises a bunch of jersey mikes in the area so its kinda like you're supporting a local business even if its an out state chicken chain. The chicken is fire both in flavor, freshness, and HEAT but at least you get your pick of pain level. I'd suggest starting with medium to gauge your tolerance bc it gets out of hand really quick and you're likely to end up ordering too hot and regretting it. Skip the fries bc their mid at best (personal opinion obviously). I'm probably too broke to recommend this place for a regular visit but if you're not broke or just looking to try it out its worth a quick visit. read more

I think I've found my new favorite chicken spot. The chicken was so good and crispy. The chicken was so well seasoned/marinated as well. I got medium spiciness which isn't spicy at all if you're a fan of spicy foods. The sauce reminds me of Raising Cane's (which is one of my favorite chicken sauces). The fries were thick cut but somehow still very crispy. The customer service is unbelievable too. Everyone I talked to was extremely nice and happy to help. I ordered two #2s: 2 sliders with fries. I had no idea the size, so two sliders sounded reasonable. Let me tell you, that might be a slider bun, but the "tender" inside is huge! Dave's is terrible since being bought by a private equity firm. I had it for the first time last night since the acquisition and I am not at all impressed. The flavor is still OK, but the seasoning consistency is nonexistent (which has always been a problem) and the portion sizes are so much smaller it's hilarious. The amount you get versus the price you pay is offensive. Also, the combo should come with a drink. Not to mention the sauce is worse now! I will never be back. Poppycox gives you twice as much food for the same price, and they can actually season it correctly. To go orders are managed incredibly poorly. I've had issues with online orders twice now. Multiple times there would be an order waiting on the shelf and no one is calling out names. You have to keep asking otherwise your food will just sit there. Never again. Chase, the young man at the register, was seriously precious. What a kind, hard working kid. He was a joy. Food was typical of Dave's. Kind of slow to come out, but was hot, fresh, spicy and yummy. These are definitely the best chicken tenders I've ever had! They were so crispy and had so much flavor. I got mild heat so it wasn't spicy but still had so much flavor since they were seasoned well. The sauce was delicious and the employees were happy to give extra sauce if you asked. The fries were really good and crispy too, and I love how you can add cheese sauce to them. If you like spicy, I recommend the extra hot, because the hot was more like medium to the 3 of us who had lunch there. I haven't dared to try the reaper yet. You can see in my pictures that the sliders are pretty big, so one is enough for me (especially if you add a side)! It's finally safe to go without there being a line out the door 24/7. My most recent trip was on a Sunday around 12pm and there was no line. The ordering process is quick and it took about 7 minutes for my food to be prepared. I usually try the hot or extra hot which are both good. I do want to try the reaper since it's only one level up from extra hot. The food is always hot and fresh and prepared to order since you get to decide your spice level. It can get a little crowded in the waiting area since the line/waiting/dining area are all located in the same area. They have online ordering available so you have people constantly coming in just to grab and go. Finally made it across town to Dave's because I was craving a chicken sandwich. I know. Weirder things have happened in my life. First things first: the chicken is really flavorful. For sure. It IS very good. I had mine seasoned to hot but it wasn't as spicy as the medium heat Buffalo wings I get at most places. My husband, with a much higher heat tolerance, got the hottest (reaper) and said it was too hot to enjoy the flavor. I therefore look with a little trepidation at extra hot. Is it a big step up from hot, or a big step down from reaper?! I suppose we shall see. Anyway, the size of sandwich is interesting. The name "slider" is misleading because it's bigger than what you'd expect one of those to be (so don't order the two-slider meal thinking it's two small things; it's not) but it's not quite the size of a regular sandwich. I mean like maybe 5% smaller? The bun's shape is really what makes it seem like an oddity and feels like a little smaller than the average sandwich roll...which is fine. I think the contents are properly sized. The fries, by the way, are crinkle cut and quite tasty. I tried some plain before slathering them in cheese, which of course makes all things better. Except sushi. So why a four-star and not a five-star review for what is obviously a very good chicken sandwich and fries? Hmm. It's very good. But it's not "drive across town and stand in line for an hour" great. It's "I'm hungry; is there much of a line?" good. Probably the second-best chicken sandwich in the city. Very solid entry. So, I finally got to check out Dave's Hot Chicken last night and it was just okay to me. Nothing bad happened, the service was great, the interior was dope with all the wall art and the UFO on the ceiling. The lovely young lady at the register was super helpful and told us it was only her 2nd day!!!! Couldn't believe that because she was great! Wish I remembered her name, but thanks so much to her! I'm not a spicy food person so I didn't try the spicy chicken. I had the no spice (boring I know lol) and it was just okay. I'm all for a fried chicken sandwich but this one seems to be missing something. And maybe it's the spice lol. I have been here twice and each time I have gotten the slider meal which comes with two sliders (you can have each slider a different level of spicy! Perfect for sharing). The location is in a popular area of Plaza Midwood so it's very walkable to bars and shops once you park in their lot. Indoor decor is spray painted murals and floor to ceiling windows let in a lot of sunlight. The milkshakes are perfect. Very underrated and I could go just for that. Fries are awesome too. When she got the combo to me the fries still had a little crunch to them. They were well seasoned. I ate the slider cold a couple hours later. The flavor was good.
